Luol Deng may be a star here in the US, but he’s a sensation in the UK where he spent some of his youth. As the subject of huge billboards and a source of amazement for excited youths, this former Duke Blue Devil looks good in the spotlight. — Adam Fleischer

Yup. A sensation. All of the autograph seekers mobbing him really shows it.

  • WhaHuh

Every road in London looks like this

i spent 9 months in the UK when it was his third year in the league I didn’t hear anyone say a word about him. Disclaimer: I was in the north of England and it is a sh!thole there.

This picture is not a good indication of how excited the youths are, unless that is a full sized cut-out (fathead) that someone stuck right in the middle of a busy street.

  • Fleezy

haha, and don’t forget the U.S.A. on his sweatshirt.

Luol gets crazy love in the UK from those who aren’t ignorant enough to ignore one of the most successful British athletes in the world.

And the North of the UK is my home, and it’s not “sh!thole”. But I guess that’s an uninformed comment.

When did he become a star in the u.s again???

That’s great. What exactly has Luol Deng done in the U.S. the last two years?

Most of us who are into basketball in the UK have crazy love for Luol, I saw him play in a Brixton allstars match a couple years back and its great he’s doing so well in the states.
So long as we qualify for 2012 he’ll be a national hero, so long as he stays healthy.
    Good luck to him.

This picture is SLAM. Lovin’ it.

England sucks a**!! been living here for almlost 8 years..it’s the most depressing place on earth! thank god I’m outta here in 4 weeks. Has any of y’all watched NBA games on Channel 5? the commentators don’t understand jack about basketball

the uk has already qualified for 2012 the host country get’s a team in for sure. Problem was they weren’t exactly on a high level so he joinded them they made it more profesional and now they’re on track to legaly qualify. I saw him play with the UK here in holland. Which had me shocked because he’s just a so so player in the NBA and in international play here he’s by FAR the best player. the skill level of most nba players is still scary good

Dude- He played against HOLLAND. In BASKETBALL- not soccer/football.
    underdog- you should try mcdonalds.
Also, ENG hasn’t qualified for sh*t yet. They are in DIV 2 in the Euro League competition. They have to at least make D1 to attempt to qualify.
They need to make the top 4 in Eurobasket thingy (I’m not Euro, so I don’t know exactly) or make the top 4 in the World Championships- which I think are in Japan this year??
    What happened to Ben Gordon?

Ben Gordon might be playing in England next season for all we know! ;-)

only people who follow ball know who Luol is, I dont know anyone who has a clue who he is, which is a shame, but ball is only slightly big in London, im up north in Sheffield and I bet only about 200 people in this entire city have heard of him, it will change though…. mark my words *looks for spray can and blank wall*

Thats what I was wondering about Ryne.

basketball is unfortunately non-mainstream in england, but that being said the people that do like bball, are very into it

basketball is an upcoming sport i england right now. most people dont know anything about basketball because there isnt any coverage over here. Loul is just the person the UK needs to promote basketball right now. with NBA europe coming i the summer and then hopefully we bring in Ben Gordon and Kelenna Azubuike get put into the team. they both can play as they were both born in England.
