Carmelo To Produce Mike Tyson Documentary

Carmelo Anthony is diversifying his resume, coming on board as executive producer of “Tyson,” a film based on the life of former boxing champ. Anthony said in the press statement released today, “Outside of basketball, movies are my big passion, and it is a great experience for me to be a part of this film.”  The film will premier in North America later this month at the Sundance Film Festival and will be released in theaters on April 24, 2009.

He is passionate about movies? Aren’t we all? If only doors were open like this for us (the general ungifted public)

Isn’t this kind of stuff the same thing as Shaq rapping? Doesn’t it distract from the full-time job ‘Melo’s making millions to do? Why don’t other players (see Davis, Baron and Brand, Elton) ever get called out on it? Is it that making movies is a more noble pursuit than rhyming with Fu-Schnickens? I’m just asking.

I don’t remember where, but I’ve seen a preview about this documentary and it looked really good. It reminded me how amazing Tyson was before he went coo-coo.

Russ: Does it detract from your writing when you take time off to ball or pursue other hobbies? I’m not trying to be a schmuck; I’m actually interested.
A famous man violinist once said: When I take a day off from playing, I feel it. Two days, the violin feels it. Three days, the crowd feels it.
I think this holds true for ball; does it carry over to writing?

Melo must be a big fan of Entourage too.

Baron Davis needs to get called on having anything to do with the bag of sh!t titled ‘belly 2′, starting none other than The Game. FAIL.

No basketball player plays 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Even if a player trains 4 hours a day (too much i think) he stil has the whole afternoon to do whatever he wants. Tzvi is bitter. I hope its good

  • [...] in light of Carmelo Anthony agreeing to produce a documentary about Mike Tyson, I’d advise everyone across the United States to search YouTube [...]

@ Boing; He really had a hand in that Belly 2 crap? Bluuaruuggghhh. I agree with Russ. I have a cousin who is also an advent basketball fan. His favorite phrase when he sees a player miss an easy shot/layup; “Seriously, what the @#$% do you do all day?” Apparently nothing basketball related it seems.

    WhaHuh: Thats about right.

@ Russ Bengston ==> Executive Producers are really just the money guys. Melo doesn’t need to spend any more time than it takes to write a check. Also, Shaq is a little b!tch in a 400-pound body.
