Dunk Fans Have Spoken, and They Want Rudy

The Blazers’ Fernandez is headed to Phoenix: “Fernandez won the voting over Milwaukee’s Joe Alexander and Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook. Fernandez will compete against reigning dunk champion Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic, as well as New York’s Nate Robinson and Memphis forward Rudy Gay.”

can he bring rodriguez along for the set-up?

  • http://yahoo.com ANJOE

    SPANISH dunk rockin phoenix. yeah.

  • riggs

holy crap thats wack, they should tell rudy gay and nate to go home and bring joe and russell

  • niQ

why are nate and rudy gay back? they should just let joe and russell fight for the crown. besides, these rookies need more recognition.

  • Squirrel7

How many attempts is Nate going to have this year?! He didn’t even deserve the win the last one, why is he back again?!

  • Squirrel7

(I didn’t mean last year’s when I said ‘last one’, I meant ‘last one’ as in his last Slam Dunk title)

  • WhaHuh

Every one will be an alley oop

  • mr. carter

That Spaniard cant make dunks like Joe!!! F*cK! u gotta be kidding me!!!! i feel so bad for joe.

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

he doesn’t seem like much of a contest dunker

  • Waters1981

I wonder if he can use Dwight as a prop – again.

  • youngmuggsy

His dunks are like Shawn Marion’s jumpshot, impressive but not pretty.

  • Anonymous

Damn I hoping Westbrook got made it.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBQEmmgDl9I Boing Dynasty

Shawn Marion’s jumpshot is not even in the same hemisphere as impressive.

  • ENDS

I voted for the Whackest so it would be easier for Dwight to repeat. Punk Move yeah but the NBA could have told us to vote for vince or Kobe, so who’s punking who

  • http://docfunk.blogspot.com Doc Funk

More importantly, who is in the skills competition? Just kidding, nobody cares.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

i guess having them all was too complicated for the NBA to set up, huh?

  • http://www.kicksonfire.com Anton

Awesome, I voted for him like 20 times. Democracy at its finest.

this is like yi getting voted in as a starter

  • http://www.sprint.com/sero dma

why didn’t joe alexander win? he is half chinese and born in china afterall. oh wait that’s right… because all the voting is based on david stern’s marketing team and not the fans.

  • Gambit

    I like that idea sefos!

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

This, at best, will go down as the forgotten Dunk Contest.

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

Joe got robbed. Fans shouldn’t get to vote for this either. The NBA should be a dictatorship not a democracy.

  • a_whiteman

Why didn’t they just have all 3 of them? Remember the good old days when they had 6-8 guys dunk?

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

I like Rudy but he doesn’t belong anywhere near the Dunk Contest. Neither did Joe Alexander though, and Westbrook’s best dunks are in games, in traffic. Not sure how this is going to work out. But, I’m pretty sure it’ll atleast be funny.

  • http://dsjflk.com Jukai

The best thing for the NBA is to grab Joe, Fernandez, and two other guys who look white enough, and just have a dunk contest between them. I’d watch it.

  • the rod

De Puta Madre!Rudy is gonna be a blast!

  • wilz

laaame. i dont think westbrook or fernandez can do much besides an impressive IN-GAME throwdown. what’s he gonna do…a 180?
at least alexander is tall and has good technique but i think the options were pretty limited. hopefully next year will have a better crop

  • mr. carter

Next year: Joe Alexander, Blake Griffin, Nick Young, Rudy Gay

  • Tyrone Shoelaces

I still have no clue why the NBA can’t institute some kind of voting system similar to the All-Star game in dunk contests. just have it instead of the league’s decision to leave players off the ballot, make it the player’s decision. Kobe doesn’t want to be in the dunk contest? fine, don’t have his name on the ballot. It would be alot more entertaining and, no offense to any of the rooks, get who the fans REALLY want to see in this contest.

  • http://www.myspace.com/hemantsbeats what

Yeah, Joe Alexander would have been a much better choice.

  • Bostwik

Rudy should be playing in Phoenix, not just spending his All Star Weekend there.

  • buggsie7_aus

thats crap he is gonna have nothing to do. he will be one of the worst people ever in the dunk contest

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ Nikos Zisis

Love Rudy but i don’t expect that much from him…Russell would have been better..

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

what exactly has Rudy done besides catching alley oops? I don’t get why people are excited he won over alexander, at least he’s shown he can do well in a dunk contest….if anyone has some rudy contest type dunks post a link..

  • The Promise

Dont be suprised if he wins it.

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

Don’t blame me, I voted for Joe Alexander.

  • datdude92

Rudy will do some soccer ish to impress the judges, his hops are suspect. I like Nate vs Howard, david & golith style.

  • http://www.triplejunearth.com/dacre Dacre

i voted for nash and billups as my starting guards.

  • jay

ah man i voted for Westbrook

  • Dark

Damn, Joe’s busy banging his head against the rim easy, and Rudy got the nod? Ugh. Rudy’s a great player, but he just doesn’t have the rise that Joe possesses. I hope he doesn’t embarrass himself.

  • http://slamonline.com Joey

    i hate int’l voting

  • http://www.ravingblacklunatic.blogspot.com Allenp

This is not going to be pretty.

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

    I agree with Allenp.

  • http://hoops4life.com overtime

Why the hell is Robinson back in the contest??!! Have we not seen enough misses?

  • collin

    nate robinson pisses me off.

  • christian

don’t blame me, i voted obama.
