    Jerome James: Dunzo

Jerome’s season (and, perhaps, career) has come to a predictably inglorious end: “The Knicks revealed today that Jerome James suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon and is out for the season. Considering the severity of the injury — not to mention the complete disinterest in getting him back — we’ve likely seen the last of Big ‘Rome. The injury happened during Sunday’s practice. And just in time to save the Knicks some luxury tax money. James’ $6.2 million salary can be picked up by insurance after he misses 41 games. Today’s game against the Chicago Bulls is Game 40, which leaves 42 games to go.”

Jerome James. I deserve his money more than he does

I feel kind of bad for him. He didn’t demand that the Knicks give him their full mid-level, and when he did get a chance to play this year he looked so happy. He is who he is—it’s not like he signed his contract and then gained 100 pounds. If they weren’t going to play him ever, they should have bought him out two summers ago.

I do like how fans hate on players like this for sitting on the bench and collecting their paycheck. No-one is forced to pay a player that much (if you don’t want to, don’t trade for his contract!), and if the coach chooses not to use them in the regular rotation, it’s out of their control. I doubt they give anything less than 100% in practice, so I don’t see why it’s their fault if they are paid millions then underused.

Also, many ‘fans’ claim they can do better than so-and-so, when in reality, even a scrub in the NBA would wipe the floor with pretty much anyone (except for those ahead of them in the rotation!).
