LeBron on the Miles/Portland Saga

by Marcel Mutoni

Everyone agrees that the Blazers handled this Darius Miles thing about as poorly as humanly possible.

Not only did they threaten the rest of the League with legal action should someone else sign Miles, but it was also recently reported that they tried to snag the forward off waivers with the intent being to leave him stranded on the bench so as not to adversely affect their salary cap (a move that the NBA blocked.)

Prior to Cleveland facing off against Miles and the Grizzlies last night in Memphis, LeBron James addressed the situation. Via the Akron Beacon Journal:

‘The way they came out and handled that situation was completely wrong,” James said. ”There was definitely a way they could handle it better. D-Miles is a good guy.”

”You have to pull for somebody like that after a situation like that. He gets some more games and he’s going to get what he deserves.”

James then promptly went out and lit up the Grizz with a triple double.

Despite their wholly inexcusable actions, however, the Portland front-office will not face any sort of punishment from the NBA. Awesome.

miles shouldve been with the celtics, he actually did pretty good.

  • http://theghostofroyhobbs.blogspot.com Mo Charlo

If LeBron says you’re a good guy, that should suffice in a court of law. But only if Bron is drinking vitamin water.

  • http://www.myspace.com/fresh2def6 Talented

They should make portland pay even more for tryin to do what they did..

  • underdog

Miles 13 munutes 13 points. Sounds good. Anyway it’s funny how the Blazers organisation talked about Miles like he was the Devil first, and now the same organisation make a martyr out of him.

  • lbj=g@y

if miles was good with the celtics avg. like 1.7 pts a game in preseason, then wow maybe should start a big baby all star campaign on youtube or something

  • Ken

It’s a shame too, because I wanted to root for the Blazers this year. I know it isn’t the players fault, but its hard to root for a team with evil management (like the Knicks under Isiah).

What does LeBron think of the Gaza situation? What does LeBron think of the weather? Does LeBron think my shirt clashes with my pants?

  • http://www.shermradio.com Sherm

What is Lebron’s opinion on the Obama stimulus package?

  • CSP8

D-Miles looked good out there all he needs is more conditioning and he should be str8. And he might not wanna try dunking again.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Russ, to be fair, he’s only answering the questions that are asked. I mean, you can’t have it both ways : journalists often complain that the players are not giving them enough to work with.

  • http://www.friendster.com/sesa Sesa

So, who actually asked this question to Bron? is it Ryan Jones?

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

That doesn’t mean it has to be posted as…oh, nevermind.

  • underdog

Nope. Ryan asked James, what was the secret of his awsomeness.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

That’s stupid, underdog. Such a question cannot be answered.

  • underdog

A truly awesome man would gave you an awesome answer.

  • http://coco-vents.blogspot.com Co Co

So does this mean Portland is out of the LeBron sweepstakes?

  • ENDS

No LeBron in Rip City. Ryan canyou ask him why Hot dogs come in packs of 10 but Hot dog Buns come in packs of 8?

  • AlbertBarr

I agree that what Portland did was f—d up and that D-Miles has a right to play, but I am sick of this whole conversation and don’t see why we need to assume Portland’s management is evil and root against their success. They tried what they could to keep their cap space. The league is a competition between front offices as well and Portland would be sitting pretty if they had gotten to keep that cap space. They ran their plays and the other team (D-miles and the NBA) blocked their shots. D-miles wins. Portland loses. Now let us enjoy the team that evil front office has put together and hope that this incident doesn’t ruin their chemistry. If we are all about players succeeding then that should include the players on the Blazers.

ENDS: We discussed that in 2004. He meant it as a metaphor: Just as no defender can fully contain his arsenal, so no package of buns could contain a full pack of wieners.
    Yeah, I said that.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

The 10/8 bun-to-dog ratio was Bron’s idea, if I didn’t make that sufficiently clear.

  • http://docfunk.blogspot.com Doc Funk

Malik Rose knows Lebron had nothing to do with the hot dog ratio.

  • http://www.kicksonfire.com Anton

What does LeBron think about the federal deficit? Should part of the bailout funds be used as liquidity to at least pay the minimum amount due? Or should trade tariffs be compromised for the greater good of the free market system?
Hope he adresses these issues in his next press conference.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

    Anton is mad f*ckin’ late.

  • Keith

I’ve been waiting to hear some more from Lebron. I really don’t think you can ever have enough of him.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

I might add that he knows that for a fact, Doc Funk.

  • http://www.bbl.org.uk Josh D

    Why were they asking Lebron

  • http://coco-vents.blogspot.com Co Co

Albert its not like the NBA has a hard salary cap. They can still overpay plenty of players if they so choose. They look like jerks, but I’m not rooting against them.

lol at “does Lebron think my shirt clashes with my pants”

  • AlbertBarr

True co co, I guess I am just hoping now that it is what it is (Darius is in Memphis for another 10 days, probably will play, scored on LeBron James, did a head bump for old times sake) we can all move on.

  • Harlem_World

Tim Thomas for D Miles, straight up. The trade will have absolutely no bearing on the improvement of either squad, but at least Miles and Q B*tch can be reunited and do that stupid sh*t it is they used to do after one of them scored. Albeit, these days it would be a whole lot less frequently.

  • Stargazey

Ironically, if the Celtics hadn’t caught D-Miles, he’d probably be the difference in their bench.

  • chintao

Forget LeBron’s opinion. I would be interested to hear what the Attorney General’s office has to say. Since the NBA is a quasi-monopoly, the Feds could conceivably take an interest in Portland’s conduct, even if David Stern won’t.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

    LOL @ Harlem.
Ryan- seriously as you can answer this- where is that 10 to 8 from? I’ve hears it before…was it in an article?

  • Teddy-the-Bear

I would like to see Miles and Q Rich unite… Sort of… And back then, when both were actually good, their head bump thing was awesome! Stop hating, Harlem World.

i still love my blazers. dmiles is a cancer. the situation would only make the blazers not a free agent player this summer. but watch out for another pritchslap.

It was a line in a stand up comics routine somewhere…. but it was a good routine.

    I’ll put it on paper:

FCUK the Blazers and they can tell me how greg oden’s *ss tastes!

  • Andy

Yeah, I’m late, but someone needs to ask LeBron how much wood can a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

“They’re stupid.” to paraphrase his other quote, that one about Barkley telling LeBron to Shut the hell up.

  • Blinguo

Double up like Ma$e. We can stop the Shaq-Fu rap jokes about the glutious max tasting now. Just like the “1sts!!!” Stop it.
