Phil Jackson on ‘Brainless’ Sasha Vujacic

“We just had to come to the conclusion that Sasha’s just an emotional player that plays by the seat of his pants, and that’s about it. He just doesn’t have a brain,” Jackson said before Friday’s game against Indiana. “He’s just out there whacking away and working really hard. He’s not using his head out there at times. We’re working with him, hoping that he will.”

First! Sasha is The Machine. He don’t need a brain.

    • Eboy Posted: Jan.12 at 9:12 am
Talentless would have been much more accurate.

    • Hursty Posted: Jan.12 at 9:14 am
Tim Duncan’s a machine. And he got a brain. So, this season Phil has called out/spoken badly/argued with:
      Lamar Odom
      Sasha Vujacic
      Andrew Bynum
      Who’s next?

    • Herfdawg Posted: Jan.12 at 9:14 am
He acts like an idiot (all the time) but he can fill it up quick and every once in while he has a good D play.

    • Roy Posted: Jan.12 at 9:17 am
Co-sign Eboy. The Zen Master is just being honest about The Machine, that’s all…

    • Eboy Posted: Jan.12 at 9:19 am
Well, he can shoot……but so can JJ Reddick.

    • Herfdawg Posted: Jan.12 at 9:21 am
Vujacic actually gets buckets though. Reddick can’t score on a fast break.

    • James the balla Posted: Jan.12 at 9:22 am
Brain need not. Machine know bas-keetball!!

    • Benoit Benjamin Posted: Jan.12 at 9:55 am
I don’t understand why people rave about the Zen master subtle mind games. He just calls people stupid in the press. And that’s the best coach in the league?

    • Herfdawg Posted: Jan.12 at 10:07 am
It’s worked to the tune of 6 rings and .700 win percentage in 12+ seasons.

    • Eboy Posted: Jan.12 at 10:12 am
      Uhm…..9 rings.

    • B. Long Posted: Jan.12 at 10:12 am
He gave 10pts in 20mins. to the Heat last night.

    • Bryan Posted: Jan.12 at 10:15 am
He’s better than jj reddick come on now. And by better I mean taller.

    • Hursty Posted: Jan.12 at 10:18 am
So he beat Eddy Curry’s -9 rating in 2 minutes 38? Which was then immideately followed by missing a game because of knee soreness because ‘of strenous activity’?
And here I was-thinking that Eddy might actually do something ‘better’ than anyone else for once.

    • btyler Posted: Jan.12 at 10:46 am
Trade The Machine to the Pacers for Travis Diener, then you’ll know someone who’s brainless and jacks three’s.

    • Herfdawg Posted: Jan.12 at 10:53 am
      @ Eboy: My bad

    • Benoit Benjamin Posted: Jan.12 at 11:13 am
Wasn’t the point Hefdawg. I’m not saying he isn’t a great coach, i’m just wondering why people think he’s a mind games genius. He just calls out his players in the press. There’s nothing genius about that. But it does work.

    • Spaceship Jay Posted: Jan.12 at 11:40 am
      Uhhh… Then he’s a genius.

    • Z Posted: Jan.12 at 12:00 pm
I call BS on the whole mindgame thing. I think Phil is an a–hole who happens to be one the greatest coaches in the history of the game. He could prolly get the same results without b-tching about anything and everything in the press. He does this for fun, I think he just likes to undermine people.

    • RV Posted: Jan.12 at 12:40 pm
Does this mean he’ll become The Computer?

    • Static Posted: Jan.12 at 12:59 pm
@ RV: if u mean in a Microsoft sort of way, then yes…make plenty of money in a big market and still suck anyway

    • G8RS Posted: Jan.12 at 2:01 pm
Gotta love Phil. Criticism encourages people to be better.

    • Herfdawg Posted: Jan.12 at 2:58 pm
It keeps everyone’s ego in check. Genius? I’m not sure, but very few other coaches do it, and he’s won half the championships in the entire league since his first with the Bulls. Maybe it’s more that he just has the balls to be the top dawg and doesn’t let anyone on the team forget it.

    • Moose Posted: Jan.12 at 5:36 pm
      Nah, no brain. Agreed.

    • Kieran Posted: Jan.12 at 9:40 pm
If there is a more annoying player in the NBA I have yet to see him.

    • chintao Posted: Jan.12 at 10:26 pm
Fil’s rings all belong to someone else. His first ring belongs to Clyde. His second set belongs to Jordan. His most recent rings belong to Kobe and Shaq. Let Fil coach the Boobcats or even Cleveland. He wouldn’t do “Jack”; instead, he’d be a slightly less manic P.J. Carlesimo. I hope the machine chokes his a$$.

    • Darksaber Posted: Jan.13 at 1:03 am
Wow Phil. Why don’t you save some for your next Lakerbashing book, ok? “whacking away”, ah the mental image.

    • T Money Posted: Jan.13 at 1:10 am
What Phil is trying to say is that Machine was brainless, that’s why he was whacking away. He needs to be introduced to Charles Barkley’s “friend”.

    • T Money Posted: Jan.13 at 1:14 am
And don’t Tex Winter and Rambo do all the coaching anyway?

    • Herfdawg Posted: Jan.13 at 9:51 am
      Rambo IS Kent Clark.
