T-Mac Says He’s Back; Does Anyone Believe Him?

by Marcel Mutoni

Tracy McGrady topped the 20-point mark in consecutive outings last night for the first time since early November. His 24 points came during a loss to the visiting Sixers – Mac’s potential game winning three was blocked at the buzzer – and Tracy attempted to give everyone hope about the future prior to the game.

From the Houston Chronicle:

Tracy McGrady touched elongated index fingers with Dikembe Mutombo, bumped fists with the staff at the scorer’s table and announced, “I’m back.” Well, that’s nice.

Welcome to the Rockets’ 2008-09 season … again. Let’s see if he can stick around awhile this time. Finally, the Rockets’ lineup looked like the one they expected to employ this season, as for just the third time no key parts were missing.

Naturally, of course, T-Mac tweaked his left knee late in the third quarter (during which he’d been performing like the Mac of old.) The good news is that he wasn’t forced to leave the game, and managed to play through the pain.

The Houston Rockets are headed into the second half of the season with a full and relatively healthy roster. Which, all things considered, sounds like the perfect time for something to go disastrously wrong.

    Where did he go?

  • http://thesportsdiaryonline.blogspot.com Roy

Hahaha!!! That was funny. :D @ Ryan Jones

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

Ryan, when T-Mac says he feels no pain is when god spreads the clouds to show the heavens and unleashes his wrath on the 1972 olympic BS game against russia where we got SCREWED.

  • Andy

Wow…how long have you been holding onto THAT resentment for?

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

Andy, since before I was born. I don’t have resentment against Russia but I do resent that game.

  • Andy

I can understand that, but still… Seems a really random place to bring it up. Heh.

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

haha, It was random! Not all my lines are winners, but I enjoy them just the same :-P

  • Ritchie

    Is T-Mac laughing yet?

Mac has been putting up numbers the last few nights, although its obvious he doesn’t have his legs anymore in the fourth. I’d feel bad for him, but its really his own fault. He just never put enough work in to be more than an “supremely gifted” athelete/player.

  • Young Chris MP3

    Mac is garbage…

  • matt the jazz fan

@ciolkstar: and you know this thanks to what source of insider knowledge, exactly?

  • Mendel

    I will never believe it.

  • rikson

I would REALLY like to believe that… BUT I JUST CANT!

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

    uh, trick question, right?

  • Donn

The Phoenix Suns medical and training staff could do this guy some good…

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

    agreed

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

Matt the jazz fan: even artest came out and said tmac sometimes relied too much on talent alone and forgets he needs to put the work in too

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

if anyone mentions the phoenix training staff and a houston player i’m going to fly the trainers down here myself just to show IT WONT MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

It only makes a diffeence if the player “buys in” to a training and conditioning regiment. Its not like in Phoenix they just stretch guys out better than anywhere else.

  • Keith

    McGrady is irrelevant.

  • http://docfunk.blogspot.com Doc Funk

We don’t believe you. You need more people.

  • rav

t-mac is become irrelevant almost as fast as steve francis

  • Chris Ujma

if anyone ever balled in T-Macs adidas laceless ‘hug’ sneakers, from a few years back, you will know where all this injury trouble started

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

    rikson said it best.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBQEmmgDl9I Boing Dynasty

I didnt watch the game or see the highlights, so i have absolutly no context, but how does your J get blocked when your 6’8?

  • niQ

i just picked him up from waivers. i hope he’s here to stay.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

Boing: when the guy who blocks you is the 6’11″ dalembert

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Tracy shouldn’t bump fists too hard, he could throw his back out.

  • Nate James

    haha

  • Teddy-the-Bear

I believe him. He’s that dude. As long as he can stay healthy enough for the offseason. I know, I’m optomistic; but someone has to be.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

Boing, Tmac is still hesitant to jump off completely off that left foot, it wasn’t very noticeable, but in slow mo you can tell he waited until he was on both feet before jumping, that allowed Dalembert just enough time to tip it.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

ciolkstar, i agree, but in this case i’m just tired of Houston fans, or any fan, saying “the rockets would be healthy if they had Phoenix’s staff”, or, “the rockets trainer needs to be fired”, as if trainers are on the court pushing Yao into guys or manipulated Tmac’s genes to make him fragile…its BS..but it sounds like a great commercial..

  • Rico

T-mac is back! Nothing can stop him now! He’s the third best player in the leauge behind Lebron and Brand. Go T-mizac!

  • jerseyboy

My name is Tracy please don’t call me that no more ok rico suave

  • Rico

    @jerzzisybizoy – no problem dude!

  • jerseyboy

O yea and why is my cousin Vince better than me again. That really sucks for me don’t ya think

  • jerseyboy

ok thats enough this is gettin wizeird

  • Harlem_World

This dude would be on the injured reserve in the WNBA. Until he gets out of the first round and plays more than 50 games in a season I don’t want to hear, read or see anything from him again as far as basketball is concerned. Word to Grant Hill.

  • Someone

    Tracy is synonymous with fragile.

  • foolio_iglesias

I think he was saying ‘His back! His back!’in reference to his back of course.Classic Ricky Henderson third person steeze.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ Young Chris: Are you serious? T-Mac is far from garbage. Even with that hurt knee.
    He shall be back!

  • Gaz

I heard G-String Wallace is back as well aye BETTY???

  • the black Castanza

down here in h-town he’s still known as “Old man” McGrady…and even when healthy he’s had problems getting us past the first round of the playoffs. Artest has become a “chucker”,and our gaurd play is below average at best.I miss the days of Clutch City.

  • Blinguo

Son needs to install robotic limbs already like Willenium in iROBOT and become iMAC:The $60 million(more maybe, no need to basketballref.com it)Mac Man.

  • Blinguo

And again, is this the lesson to not wear #1 in Orlando, kids?

  • Blinguo

Better yet than iMac, TiMAC. (Titanium-Mac) Give me my prize now SLAM! Doesn’t matter if this isn’t the nickname contest.

  • Pistons_Go

T-Mac is weaksauce and a fraud.A second version of Penny Hardaway R.I.P T-Macs baller status.

  • http://thegayestwebsiteever.com Ben

I don’t get it; he looks black to me.

  • Exile

    NO.

  • Dubya

for how long? Until Yao asks how his a**tastes?

  • http://yahoo.com moj3

ive lost faith in TMAC. not a very dependable guy in the regular season, but when playoffs comearound, he has his best games.
i rite now prefer ARTEST over TMAC, cuz of the emotion he brings to the game. da kid got heart.
