The Celtics Want Marbury and … Reggie Miller?!

by Marcel Mutoni

At least, they did anyway.

Appearing as a guest on the Dan Patrick radio show yesterday, the former Pacer admitted that Danny Ainge and the C’s – among others – extended him an invite prior to the season.

The Boston Globe has the details:

Former NBA shooting guard Reggie Miller admitted earlier today on the Dan Patrick show that he received calls from both the Celtics and Cavaliers earlier this season asking if he would be interested in playing. It was the second inquiry in the last two years that the Celtics have made into the availability of Miller’s services.

Miller contemplated joining the Celtics before last season’s championship run but ultimately decided to stay in the broadcast booth.

As for the Boston front office, they’re not done with old geezers from the NBA’s past. According to Danny Ainge, the door is still open not just for Miller, but also for the likes of PJ Brown and the recently retired Alonzo Mourning.

No word yet if the Celtics have secretly joined some underground seniors’ league.

Buck Williams is a hell of a rebounder. but i think they need to go bigger, Joe Barry Carroll.

  • eric d

    Joe Barry Carroll.

  • The Promise

Awesome. Reggie was my favorite player when he played… bring him back so he can get a ring! Starbury would be a good changeup to Rondo also. Go for it D. Ainge.

  • Mikey Rockz

why would they choose miller, he’s decent, but not worth the money. they should get michael jordan, he can probably drop 15-20 ppg, and maybe catch that sixth man award of he decides to come out of retirement again.

  • Uzi

Bring back Kareem .. n giv Bill Walton a call while ur at it !

  • Uzi

Ahmed Rashad has deep range off the corner. He should fit in perfect instead of Pose!

Underground senior line. LMAO. I mean Reggie Miller Can Still Play.. FOr like a quarter and be done. for the night so it could be worth it. And it would be nice to have Starbury on the Celts.. Have a dominant point guard. He would be stable in BeanTown because there Championship Caliber.

I gotta start being early on this.. LOL

wow, Ben that must have felt like twilight zone, eh? Did you go online with him and upon seeing these comments he shole his fist, vowing vengeance?

  • Monkeyball

Speaking of old-timers. Will someone at SLAM please write a feature about the statistical milestones hit by players this year? J Kidd will finish the season as with the fourth-most assists of any player, all time (passing Isaiah and the Big O). Shaq will finish the season with the fifth-most points (passing the Dream, Moses Malone, and the Big E).

  • ThaRussian

The Celtics must know they can’t even get a Wedgie Evans at this point and aren’t even looking at serviceable players or Free Agents anymore, but retired and just retired players? Insane. (Get the Foyle up there then. His Matters of Democracy will get you to the 2nd ring when they use him to negotiate & bring in Obama)
