The Great Debate: Dwight or LeBron?

Hard to choose: “If you had to start a franchise, would you take Magic all-star center Dwight Howard, 23, or the Cavs all-star small forward LeBron James, 24? ‘Uh, oh, wow. … I played with Shaq, but that’s a tough one,’ said former NBA veteran Dennis Scott. ‘I would, um, go with…’”

Lebron. Howard’s amazing, but his only two post-moves are dunk and hook shot. He’s an amazing shot blocker and rebounder as well, but that’s about it. Lebron gives you a consistent scorer, a distributer, a solid rebounder, a shot blocker, and a great defender who can pretty much defend positions 1-5. On top of that, there’s so many areas for him to improve in that when he hits his prime, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him put up Jordan-esque numbers

If only Brian Scalabrine weren’t 30 years old…

  • ENDS

No more Jordans people Deal with it! Plus im done with everyone saying he can only dunk. Block his dunks than! It is an offensive move, not the greatest but pretty dam good.

Is it wrong for me to want LeBron to break a leg? or at least twist an ankle and be out for 3-5 weeks

    Lebronjabo hands down.

    bron bron… plays the 1,2,3,4

  • Todd Spehr

Dennis Scott: “Traditionally, I’d have to go with the big guy (Dwight)…” – Yeah, LeBron’s not big

  • Andy

LeBron’s adding 15 pounds of muscle every week. Soon, he’ll be 600 lbs and still athletic as hell.

  • AnDy21

stupido andy… u suk man!! its all about dwight!!!!

  • adams

If Dwight could raise his free throw shooting to around 80% there could be a debate but until then this is a rhetorical question.

    lebron is garbage

dwight ain’t even a real seven footer. bron might be taller next week.

  • http://wherethenbareallyhappens.blogspot.com Collin

dwights great, but bron is better

  • riggs

Dwight, theres forwards and guards that u can get anywhere.

  • Connor

How can it not be LeBron. He is the most all around player the game has seen since Magic. LeBron can take over a game on both ends of the floor this year. He is far and away a better leader that Dwight Howard, too.

  • http://www.myspace.com/hemantsbeats what

Normally I would go with the big guy, but LeBron is too good.

  • http://www.sprint.com/sero dma

if you’re looking for jersey and ticket sales Lebron. otherwise Dwight. good to great guards are easier to find. you can’t teach height.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

I’m sorry, who is in the debate for MVP and best player in the NBA and who is a center who has no post moves?

  • RG

Its gotta be Lebron. Dwight has a chance to be the best center ever, but Lebron could go down as the best PLAYER ever, big difference.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

dwight obviously. he already is a champ – a slam dunk champ. if bron is really as good as everyone says, he’d at least enter the contest to try to bring that trophy home for Ohio.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

actually bron should demonstrate he’s better than everybody by entering all of the all-star saturday events and win them all. that’d be pretty damn impressive.
speaking of which, i remember kobe failed to even complete the skills challenge because he couldn’t pass the ball. that was embarrassing.

  • niQ

That’s definitely a hard choice to make. At least we will be able to see them play together in the ASG.

  • neaorin

LeBron, but you can build a winner around either one. Even I could build a winner around either one – just give me Bill Gates’ money and Bennett Salvatore’s phone number.

You need consistent guard play to be a serious contender. After all, if your guards suck, then how do you plan on getting the ball down into the post? Boston won last year with an average center in Perkins. Lebron all the way

  • justin

everyone started lovin dwight after the supaman dunk(amazing) but brons been loved since roy in 2004 so i say lebron. he got more skillz

  • EC

i agree with Russ, Starbury all the way. Why waste time on Dwight or ‘Bron?

  • Buddy Christ

Lebron. He’s done more with much much less. Howard at least had Hedo and Nelson

  • Young C

How many great centers won championships during Jordan’s prime when he wasn’t retired? Not Shaq. Not Dream. Not Ewing. Not the Admiral. Picking Dwight over Lebron would be like picking one of those centers over Air. If u pick Dwight, I’m sorry but you are dumb

  • Harlem_World

    Let’s ask Lebron.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

    Is that a real question?

  • Jess

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ Moose

LeBron. Wise beyond his years. Would play the cards right.

  • Someone

Hmmmmm…do I want a freak of nature who can dominate the game with the ball or a freak of nature who can dominate only if someone can get the ball to him…hmmmmm…

  • drose1

    derrick rose

  • jay

    obviously JR Smith

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

LeBron. 2nd preference would be Chris Quinn though.

  • Plasticman

    Dan Dickao.

sure dwight’s great, but ask any gm in the league and they will ALL chose Lebron – not even close. i’m not even a huge fan, but the guy is insane. all stats aside, he singlehandedly (with the exception of one game where boobie gibson went crazy) took his team to a championship – at the age of 22! he’s improved his defense and free throw shooting this year. i guarantee you he will improve his outside shooting by next year. he will be the most complete player in history once his career is done (with all due respect to oscar robertson)…

  • http://www.hbo.com/thewire/ jsmoove

not to mention the fact that he almost singlehandedly took out the celts in the playoffs last year – at age 23! if celts didn’t have home court advantage, they would have lost for sure.

Dennis Scott would take whoever shoots freethrows worse than him. So neither.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com nbk

Its not even a debate, you would take LeBron if you had a brain. Ill give a few examples why
Lebron = Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Dr. J – caliber Dwight = Shaq (never won a title without a top flight wing) Wilt- Only won 2 rings but played in the Russel era, but still needed great wings to succeed) although the same can be said about Bird, Magic, and Jordan you can also say that those three made their teammates great…can’t say that about shaq and wilt.

  • j-smoov 5

Dwight. It’s rare now these days to find a center as talented as he is.

  • http://slamonline.com/online/nba/2009/02/whats-my-name-21 John

Bron can handle da rock and make shots outside of the paint and can post up smalls and hit free throws and he can handle the da celtics

  • Jprince

Its a very hard decision, both are not even in there prime years and there playing like legends. I say Lebron is better than dwight howard. Dwight’s size is tremendous but he has limited range shooting. If he works on his free throws he’l be unstopable. If lebron can make his three’s around 80 percent instead of 65. Look for him to break wilt chamberlins record. Superman still a beast but u can’t deny the chosen one.
