The Post Up: Beautiful Day

Anything Is Possible.

by Holly MacKnezie

Sorry, sorry, sorry. Shortened version today, I had a friend call yesterday and remind me that her flight was getting in at 12 a.m. and she’d be crashing at my place. I started my usual recapping routine then I had a liveblog and had to send some stuff to a coworker and before I knew it, it was 2am and I was waiting for my friend to get in who I hadn’t seen in forever, so we’re going short recaps here.

My MLK holiday of watching bball ended up being full of errands and more writing than anyone in their sane mind should complete in one day, plus two liveblogs so my fingers are tired and my brain is not really working.

I definitely confused Pavlovic with Mo Williams during the Lakers/Cavs game. The Lakers/Cavs game that the Lakers won.

Beautiful.

I<3 Ariza.

Okay, we’ve got some game notes coming today as well, so be sure to look for those.

And of course, on a day like today, what else can I say, but, anything is possible. Happy day, U.S. Amar'e plays soccer.commenters. I’m proud I get to witness this moment.

Unfortunately, I think Amar’e and the Suns thought the inauguration was last night and that’s why they took the game off, holy ugly. I’m not even discussing that debacle. 104-87 for the Celtics.

I’m watching this John Thompson piece on TNT and I’ve got tears streaming and my heart could burst. I hope you’ve all gotten to watch this!

The Raptors lost another close one. Big surprise there. I wrote my first negative piece today, over at The Score and it made me question who I was becoming. I was actually angry with Chris Bosh today, so angry in fact, that I was pretty cranky with a friend until I eventually blew up and told him my anger was actually at Bosh and the Raptors and Jay and BC and the losing.

Didn’t expect to get so angry over a team that isn’t even mine. Funny how that happens. Anyway, the Raps lost to Atlanta 87-84 and Joe Johnson saved the day for the Hawks while Jamario Moon apparently killed it for the Raptors.

My Warriors took down the poor Wizards in a battle of injury-plagued disappointment teams. Monta coming back soon? It appears that way!

San Antonio only getting by Charlotte, 86-84 thanks to a 25-point performance from my fave Bobcat, Raja Bell that was almost enough to shock the Spurs.

Detroit took down Memphis 87-79 and Ivy played great for the Pistons, trying to prove that he’s not the guy who should be the sixth man. I know, I heard his post game where he said he’d do whatever was needed to win a championship and I also know that Rip has already been there, but still, I can’t roll with the image of Iverson coming off of the bench. Not feeling that. Thoughts, Detroit fans?

Greg Oden with a career-high 24 points as the Blazers used a strong fourth quarter to stomp out the Bucks, taking the game 102-85.  Oden had 15 rebounds to go with those points as well.

ps, before you get to the two recaps that were finished before I needed to kick this into go-go-gadget speedy finish, I stumbled upon this photo.

He’s crazy. And good. Crazy good.

Houston 115 Denver 113

While the Nuggets were again without Carmelo Anthony, the Rockets were missing both Tracy McGrady and Ron Artest. In the match up of undermanned teams, the Rockets were able to prevail, thanks to a31-point perfomance from Yao Ming and a pair of missed free throws late from Kenyon Martin. This was a wild one, as each team came out firing and the rapid-fire pace didn’t let up. With the teams trading leads, Denver led in the third before the Rockets started running and went into Yao as they outscored Denver 25-19 in the quarter and took a 90-87 lead into the fourth. In the final quarter JR Smith got hot for the Nuggets as he poured in 17 points to keep the Nuggets close but it wasn’t enough as Kenyon Martin had a chance to tie the game in regulation with free throws, but missed the first, then had to miss the second intentionally. A Yao rebound finished that game up. In addition to Yao’s 31, Rafer Alston had 18 points and 11 assists as Von Wafer also scored 18. Smith led Denver with 24 points as Nene had 23 points to go with 12 rebounds and Kenyon Martin added 22.

New Orleans 103 Indiana 100

Chris Paul and Danny Granger each wanted to put on a show yesterday. In a game that went down to the buzzer, it was first Granger who drew the ooh’s and ahh’s from the crowd as he drilled a three with 2.5 seconds left on the clock to tie the game at 100, all. Chris Paul was not about to let all of the shine go to Granger and he wasn’t about to let his team drop another game. On the final possession of the game, CP3 rose and hit a three over Granger as the clock expired, win Hornets. Paul finished with 27 points and 9 assists while Peja Stojakivic had 26 points and Rasual Butler added 17. Granger finished with 30 points for the Pacers as Troy Murphy added 17 points and 11 rebounds.

    Hi Ryan!!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

    From the AP:
LOS ANGELES — Kobe Bryant and LeBron James tussled to a virtual standoff Monday night.
But Bryant’s supporting cast was far more effective, and that was the difference as the Los Angeles Lakers beat Cleveland 105-88 to snap a five-game losing streak to the Cavaliers.
    -
Because I went to bed around 10 last night, I’ll take their word for it.
Iif anyone’s commenting about basketball here between, say, 11:30 this morning and 1:30 this afternoon, you have failed at life.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

    Morning, sir.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Chuck Hayes is a beast. Nuff said.

  • namik

Although any arguments along the lines of-”Kobe is the new leading MVP candidate because they won this game” is just dumb. LeBron is still that by a huge huge distance and if his teammates give him enough support, he’s got it in the bag already.

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

Yeah, I’m going to be commenting on SLAM until 10 CST…then I am posted up on the inauguration coverage. I am going to cry like Big Baby Davis. OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA

  • namik

I’m not from the US. But yeah, the Obamas looked good going into the prayer session as does that sea of humanity in Washington DC. Congratulations to all Americans! Also, Kobe getting more assists than LeBron was surprising, even to a Laker fan like myself.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

So, it’s pretty safe to say today that the Orlando Magic…..today….are the top team in the league? Really is a day of change.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

I’m an Australian, and even though we will still be America’s b*tch, we will (hopefully) make the right decisions about how we do things. Not as rash and foolish like under Bush.

  • ENDS

Not so Surprising! Goodmorning EBoy sir! Truely a wonderful day

  • ENDS

the joint was not jumpin’ without you yesterday.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

Eboy, I see your case, and a couple power rankings will agree with you this week…but there’s no way the Magic are the best team in the L. No way.

  • ENDS

Funny how when i revealed what the ghost of Penny told me, everyone thought i was crazy…

  • ENDS

Great MLK day Games. Dont know if it was inspiration but everyone was ballin’ yesterday. No more thanksgiving games, all 30 teams on MLK day ’10!

  • ENDS

No one wants to play when they know there homies are chillin at the Crib eatin’ turkey

  • ENDS

More wins then Cavs Lakers, less losses than Celtics Spurs. What can you say (at least this week As soon as they loose 2 straight I know the hate will resurface)

  • WhaHuh

I look forward to Ryan posting Kobes vs stats when LeBron wins the MVP

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

I agree with Justin. I’m out for the day because of that. Later!

  • ENDS

E – what you think? I told you Fridays game would be no corination. Down went Kobe, Down went Chauncy, Down went Tim-may, the Kings live at the bottom.

  • http://iwantoutofokc.com/ James the balla

Eff Lebron … everyone get off his jock. Kobe is MVP. Nuff said!!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I think Ryne overlooked my “today” designation. The Lakers, Cavs, Celts and Magic are all equally matched and from night to night, any one of them can beat each other. That’s straight parity right there. I would probably throw the Spurs in their two.

  • WhaHuh

The Everton Tigers won the BBL cup a couple of days ago. There was an article written (by Ryan i think?) about them in Slam 2 months ago. Congrats

    or too.

Nuff Said I’ll take my Victory. Last week My team couldn’t beat anyone. im out like the Suns in the 1st quarter last night

    Inaugaration Day. That is all.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Saw that WhaHuh — they won by like 50, too. I enjoyed that, though not nearly as much as a late equalizer at Anfield yesterday.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Is the BBL Cup one of those things that lesser clubs satisfy themselves with? Because I wouldn’t know.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

Good games yesterday. I still think the Lakers are the best team in the L, even if Orlanda beat them the other day.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Russ: All English clubs are lesser clubs; this is sort of like winning the FA Cup for a Premier League team — a very cool trophy, but not the same as winning the league. Everton might do that, too.
I type this realizing that 99 percent of everyone might read this could give a sh*t. Sorry. Back to NPR!

  • http://where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

I’d just like to point out that LeBron scored exactly zero points last night while Trevor Ariza was guarding him, you know, for historical precedent and all. I wonder if Trevor was that good at knocking down threes in high school?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    Everton’s PG sucks.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

    Rajon Rondo.

  • WhaHuh

As a United fan I alsoenjoyed the late equaliser at anfield. Apparently there are 3 cups you can win in the BBL (including the championship)

  • Squirrel7

Ryan, when you wrote that article on Everton Tigers, I assume you suppressed a laugh at the statue of Jordan outside the Tigers’ office, with a #32 Bulls jersey on?

  • thesubwayconnection

Yeah, tuned in for the LeBron/Kobe show, got the Ariza show. Who’dathunkit?

  • Caleb

The Hornets/Pacers game was wild. David West was out with back spasms, and Tyson Chandler, Hilton Armstrong and Antonio Daniels all got hurt during the game. Chandler and Armstrong both had to leave the game. To top all that, Chris Paul was in foul trouble – playing with 5 in the 4th quarter. Despite all this, the Hornets win.

    It was pretty awesome.

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq al Haydar

    Hi Holly.

I agree. Iverson off the bench just doesn’t feel right.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

WhaHuh: As long as they keep the reds from winning the League, ManU will remain my second favorite team.
Squirrel: Yes, that was kind of weird, although that was technically the community center’s office, not Everton’s (if you read the story, that hopefully makes sense). The best part was that a) no one seemed to know how the statue got there, and b) no one had noticed that the number was wrong. It ain’t hoops country.

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq al Haydar

    Ryan:

I’m sure you especially enjoyed that equalizer because your boy Tim Cahill scored it.

  • Jazz Man

It Was The Ariza Show For The Most Part, But Kobe Showed Prince James That He Couldn’t Just Score On Him Either. Just Like Kobe Had To Wait Until Jordan Retired To Take The Thrown…Prince James Has To Wait Until King Kobe Retires!!!! Witness…LMAO

  • http://where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

By the way, the Lakers officially got tough last night. Get scared people.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

My FB page will confirm your hunch, Tariq.
Also, this from NPR’s inauguration coverage: “We have several dozen cases of severe hypothermia out on the Mall.” So, yeah, glad I’ll be watching this from my office.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Idiots still permiate this country, even on one of it’s most important days in history. So sad that idiots range from Louisiana, Minnesota, New Mexico, California all the way to Maine.

Bradley’s been waiting to right that sh*t since his team has sucked over the last 5 games. Yes, Brad, we’re all afraid…..especially the two teams in Florida that kicked the sh*t of your fearsome squad 3 out of the 4 times they played this season. And obviously you know it’s January and your prediction of 73-9 is still looking promising to all that read your moronisisms.

I know, Ryan, I unfortunately live there! Still, I think quite a few people could probably guess MJ’s number, there’s plenty of talk about how Beckham picked 23 for that reason, as have many other footballers (if they can’t get their 1st choice number).

  • Squirrel7

And am I the only one who thinks Ariza could be a really good role-player if he could get some consistency on his jumper? His athleticism is impressive, and he can play some lockdown D when necessary.

  • http://where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

Eboy’s obviously a still a little upset about that whole STDwanyne Wade story yesterday. I would point out how much of a hypocrite this makes him to everyone he has ever chastised for rooting for Kobe because of his off the court faults, but I’m better than that.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Yes….B, I’m devastated. And I don’t think there were any criminal charges discussed…so chalk one up for the good guys!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

Squirrel, Ariza’s been in the League for five seasons already, and he can’t shoot a jump shot…

  • http://where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

He can knock down clutch threes randomly though.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Ariza’s a pretty darn good role player without a jumpshot.

I love that Ryan Jones didn’t respond to my 10:23 comment about his ridiculous posting of a Trevor Ariza vs. LeBron James high school game Youtube vid. But then again, I guess all last night did was prove Ryan right about his SLAM Top 50 rating this summer, so either way he wins. Darn.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

Ariza should definitley be starting, no question. Lamar Odom should be more dominant on the second unit also.

all i gotta say is Kobe shut Lebron down last night.. played GREAT d against him..

Lakers supporting cast was better than the cavz but you can give a lot of credit to that to Mr. Bryant (12 assists) for finding all the open men, spreading the court, and making the right plays.

And that is why Chris Paul is the best point guard in the world.

ODEN!!! well… ODEN and more importantly OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jackie Moon

    Lebron James 9-25, 6 turnovers, 4 assists.
Kobe Bryant 9-22, 5 turnovers, 12 assists. What’s the confusion?

  • Jackie Moon

Ryan, I did see the game, so take my word for it: Ariza anticipated LBJ’s moves a couple of times and got some steals, both of which could MAYBE have been called fouls, but not really, if that makes sense. They were borderline, but closer to the “no call” border. Ariza and Kobe also both where able to cut LBJ off in transition several times, making him pull away from the basket, which is a minor miracle.

  • Jackie Moon

Also, that stuff about Ariza “Shutting Lebron” down is hyperbole.

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

@Jackie:He did not score once while Trevor was guarding him. He made some hockey assists but no shots. Go back and watch the DVR.

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

@Ryan:Yeah, I was supposed to be in a meeting at 11:30 today that was scheduled very conviently by our overly republican Region Manager and he decided to be late so I figured I’d be a loser and post on slam while waiting since there’s no TV in our boardroom. CBS’s stream wasn’t working either.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    Clearly LeBron sucks.

  • Tom

The Cavs definitely missed big Z in that game. Bynum and Gasol just turned and shot over the cav “bigs” all day. As for guarding Lebron, it was a team thing for sure. Kobe was sticking him most of the game but the help came right when it was supposed to. Ariza was great in the 4th and Kobe played a perfectly balanced game. Without Z though, us Laker fans shouldn’t put too much stock into the win though. BTW, the Lebron rules were definitely in effect last night……..seemed like dude was getting beat up most of the game.

  • Jackie Moon

B Long – I just think “Slowed down” LBJ would be a more accurate assessment, and just as impressive. Nobody shuts Kobe down either, so I get irritated when I hear that someone did that, too. But, essentially, you were right on Ariza’s defensive effect. Just goes to show you how much stock to put in a high school game over 5 years ago!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    Ok, some basketball talk today:
    -
Pistons coach Michael Curry announced today that Richard Hamilton will lose his place in the starting lineup as the team tries to overcome its recent struggles.

Power forward Amir Johnson will replace him in the starting lineup most nights. Center Kwame Brown will start against especially big teams. Either switch would give the Pistons a more traditional lineup of two guards and three bigger players, as opposed to the three-guard lineup they’ve been using since Hamilton returned from an injury this month.

“I feel we are better defensively and rebounding” with three forwards, Curry said. “We have struggled sometimes being able to score at the beginning of the second and fourth quarters. We think, by featuring Rip during those times, we can (change) that.”

Curry said Hamilton will average about 30 minutes of playing time per game off the bench. He will decide his late-game substitution pattern on the fly.

    Poor Rip.

And here’s what I’ve gathered from the smattering of comments I’ve read from the Laker loyalists.

Trevor Ariza is the pick over Lebron James if you are starting a franchise.

  • Candice

Tadd are you happy with the decision?

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Guys, please… No one can stop LeBron or Kobe or D-Wade… the Lakers played very well on the defensive end and contained him. That is very encouraging for them as they have had some defensive lapses this season. I think it’s also fair to say that the Lakers felt mroe comfortable hounding Bron with Z and West out. The Cavs are facing a tough stretch out West w/o two big pieces. A .500 road trip would be excellent. / AI should go to the bench, he’s a rental while Rip is a keeper.

  • Candice

I hope Kennedy is ok too.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

There’s just as many Cav crazies (Krolik, Jones) as there are Laker loyalists (MacKenzie, Brown) on this site.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Me, I just root for white guys with beards.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

And for the record, I don’t love/hate either Kobe OR Bron—I’m just sick of every national announcer more or less decreeing that LeBron is the greatest basketball player in the history of history. Someone compared his defense to Pippen’s last week and I wanted to throw the remote through the TV.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

    Yes I can.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Candice: Even Obama came off the bench. Rip can handle it. I’m neither happy nor sad about it. It’s all about team.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

It’s not like all of a sudden Rip or AI are going to be stuck playing 18 minutes a night.

  • Jackie Moon

It’s not the starting, it’s the minutes!!!!

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Kobe Bryant is the best basketball player in the NBA for his whole body of work. I believe that LeBron is the better player RIGHT NOW. Debatable, I concur.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Exactly. Hopefully this can fix the lulls the team seems to go in periodically in games during the last week.

  • Candice

Tadd:I guess I should not be rooting for the Pistons since I’m a Bull’s fan but AI is my favorite player and I just want the places he go to succeed. Since LP is free this week this will be my first time seeing a lot of Pistons game in a row. I just want them to get on the right track and string off some wins again. I just wonder why it took a 5 game losing streak? When would have you made the change?

  • Candice

We all know that they will still be getting their mintues, it just seem sthat BB players as a whole don’t get that concept.

  • Candice

On a other note I hope the Bulls win tonight. (sigh). All the games against the Hawks have been close and have been good games. I just rather it be the Bulls on the winning end this time.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Candice: I honestly can’t say for sure when or if I would have made the change. People will look at the games lost and sayd that the small-ball lineup was the reason for it. Simply not true. The Pistons were in every game but one and basically faltered in the 4th quarter, not the 1st quarter. I’m putting trust in Curry that he has the teams pulse and that he just wanted to give that lineup a chance before benching a player that has never played off the bench before. I have no qualms with that, nor do I have and issues with him making this move now. I will caution that this is not a cure-all for the team. They need to find their identity again.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Russ is right I spose. Soooo early….Nice catalac(sp?) too.

  • Myung

The Bulls should win. We will most likely not have the services of Al Horford and Marvin Williams again… and the Bulls are back to relatively healthy status (Deng, Hinrich, Gooden are all back, right?). It’s a home game for them too. I’m expecting an uphill climb for the Hawks tonight.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Hamilton should have come off the bench to begin with. Because of the time difference I don’t get to take part in a lot of the discussion, but I always felt that Rip coming off the bench would have been more beneficial.
Also, was it truly time to trade Chauncey? Has Stuckey become the floor leader in 2+months that he was supposed to come? He’s had some great games- what about everything else though…?
Also, America is repping its Brit*shness with the red-coat soldiers…

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

I got a Joe Johnson jersey! Yay! And a rockets hoodie from NBA Store (Mum says its huuuuuggee)! (thought Myung would like to know that JJ has fans in Aus as well).
Also hotel prices in NYC went up a bucketload over the last week for innauguration.

  • Candice

@Myung, I don’t know what to expect from the Bulls. I’m in a wait and see approach with them every night they play. I don’t get too high or low with them.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

I can’t get emotionally attached to the Bulls. They just don’t ‘do it’ for me…
Oh and I hope Teddy Kennedy is ok.

  • Myung

That’s very cool, Hursty. BTW, do you live in Sydney? My sister goes to school down there (Hillsong College).

  • Candice

Tadd: you make some good points about the timing of things and what you think Curry is doing. I want to see tonight what the so call experts say about this move. When the Bulls game start I will be blacked out on NBATv and will tune into NBA coast to coast. I will be going to see them live on the 10th of Feb. against the Bulls. I think the Bulls are honoring Norm Van Lier that night.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Yeh I live in Sydney. I know Hillsong! It’s pretty small right?

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Is she over there on a youth ministry mission or something Myung? Its odd that someone from ATL ends up in Sydney otherwise though haha.

  • Candice

@Hursty all I know is the Bulls. I can’t see myself really pulling for no other team than them. As much as they frustrate me I can’t help but be emotionally attatched to them. The only Chicago team I don’t like and could careless about are the Cubs. They can keep be losers as far as I’m concerned.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Hursty: That is just silly to say. You thought Rip should be benched from the beginning without giving the lineup of your five best players a chance to work? Well, whatever. I’m truly sick of debating this point. Rip is coming off the bench.
    -
As for your Stuckey inquiry: when do you determine that someone is truly ready? Yes, trading Billups sooner rather than later allowed for Rodney to be thrown into the fire and learn on the fly. This is a good thing. He has had a few hiccups, but he has had many more good moments than bad. Granted, he is still a score-first PG, but he has done a good job of getting others involved as well. He gets better every game, which is all I want.

  • Myung

Hursty, she’s there earning a degree in music ministry, I believe. I MIGHT (money is the big issue) try to visit her sometime later this year. I’ve always wanted to visit Australia. She says nothing but good things (well, other than the fact that everything is way more expensive than here in the States).

  • Myung

I think the Pistons should solve their issue by just trading one of their extra guards to the Hawks. We’ll give you guys Flo Mevans (The hybrid bench creature that has had to replace Josh Childress) in return, since this dude has played in Detroit before. If you give us Stuckey, we’ll give you Acie Law as well (since Acie was drafted ahead of Stuckey…sigh).

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

I just lost my big response to you Tad….in short, once Rip was injured thats when he should have become a bench player (or 6th starter wtf). I would go over my whole thing again, but neither of us care too much.
Myung- very true. If you get the chance to, holla at me on hibachi and maybe I can help you out with hotels, sight seeing, good game runs etc.

  • Candice

@Tadd I think Stuckey has been fine. Like Kenny Smith kept saying last night, Stuckey is the reason why the decision of Rip or AI coming off the bench had to made. They want each player to be at their strengths and don’t want them to hold back.

    TAD is a good fan.
Me, I can barely watch the games anymore. My favorite player’s career is coming to an end, and the good old days seem so far away.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBQEmmgDl9I Boing Dynasty

They should just play AI off the bench with 4 guys who can offensive rebound and let him play like used to in Philly.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

I’ve been a disgruntled fan since last week, Allen. Luckily, i’ve had more important things to distract me.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

I suppose the supporting cast wouldn’t be that much different Boing. Kwame, Maxiell (why all the DNP’s?), Amir (who can ball)…

  • Candice

@AllenP I think it’s going to okay now. Like Tadd said it’s not going to slove all their problems but at least it’s more traditonal and with that traditional line-up they did go on their winning streak.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Myung is funny. Unless it is requested, I don’t see Dumars making any changes before the trade deadline.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Why does Candice insist on having two ‘d”s for TAD? Theres only one lol.

  • Candice

Me too Tadd. At least when the Bulls were losing, I thought I could count on the Pistons but that wasn’t happening either. I was especially upset with the games they had leads in and lost. That goes for both teams. I feel no lead is safe with either teams.

@Hursty I don’t know, why I do that.I tend to type letters that don’t belong a lot of times.

Sorry Tad. Can’t say that I’m going to remember not to type the other D. I remember saying not to type the other D before but I forgot.

  • http://www.ravingblacklunatic.blogspot.com Allenp

Point blank, Iverson is not a great leader. Sad, but true. He can make other players better, he is great at giving effort and he is a much more intelligent player than he is given credit for being. But, he’s not a leader.
Chauncey is a leader. Lebron is a leader. Duncan is a leader. DWade and Kobe are pseudo-leaders. Iverson, Dirk and several other superstars aren’t real leaders. They are great players and they do not hurt a team, but they don’t have that intangible that lifts other players mentally and makes them do things they didn’t think they could do. In Philly, Larry Brown played that role. In Denver, nobody did.

  • http://www.ravingblacklunatic.blogspot.com Allenp

That was a long walk for Barack and Michelle…
And I was holding my breath every step of the way. My homegirl wanted them to hurry up and jump in the popemobile.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Yeah Allen. They were out there walking for quite some time and I was holding my breath as well.
    -
As for Iverson: Yeah, Iverson can lead by example during a game, just from pure effort, but he doesn’t have the natural take charge mentality that great leaders have.

YES WE CAN! (beat the lakers with West and Z)

    Allenp
The leadership thing was spot on. Leaders elevate the skill-level of their teammates by trusting them(LeBron), cheering them (KG), scaring the ish out of them (MJ) or just out of sheer respect for their professionalism (TD). Iverson doesn’t fall into any of those categories. I always felt that D-Wade is too ‘scold-happy’ to be a TRUE leader. And Kobe, well… that’s a topic in itself.

  • http://www.kicksonfire.com Anton

Iverson used to cheer for those cats in Philly. Back in the glory years. But he isn’t consistent enough with that.
DWade and Kobe pout too much for me. That’s my main beef with them. Duncan might yell at people, but he doesn’t pout.
