The Raptors Aren’t Very Happy With the Celtics

by Marcel Mutoni

A number of opponents this season have accused the defending champs of showing little to no class on the court. Especially during victories, of which they have quite a bit. It’s now time to add the Toronto Raptors to that list of folks who are less than pleased with the Beantowners.

People in the Toronto organization were upset with what they (rightfully) perceived as Boston showing them up, when Rondo set up Powe with a wholly unnecessary late-game oop. From the Toronto Sun:

“I didn’t think that was showing very much class doing that,” guard Anthony Parker said. “I think we as a team and most of the league tries in that situation to dribble the clock out. I don’t think we’ll see them again for the rest of the year but that’s something to remember.”

“They operate as an organization and do what they do,” Kris Humphries said, “but every organization that I have been a part of would not do that. I think that’s a team attitude.”

The Celtics have said it themselves repeatedly: the only way to shut them up, or keep them from acting like jerks, is to beat them. So far, only nine teams have managed to do so. The rest will just have to continue gritting their teeth.

I’m pretty excited to see the Celtics get mangled by the Cavs come the spring.

  • Gumdrop

Shut up Moose! (Sorry that was pre-emptive)

  • Orlando Green

I love seeing the Celtics loose! A Lakers-Cavs final would be sweet!…Well id also like to see the lakers kill the C’s in the finals also..

  • AlbertBarr

KG has never had class. The truth used to be the definition of class. Not anymore. The Celtics may win another title…who knows? I’m thinking not. 19 wins in a row is impressive, losing 7 of nine against quality and unquality teams alike? Not so impressive. Unless they throw together another huge run I think they should probably rethink their swagger before they truly get embarrassed for all the bluster.

If both the Celtics and Lakers don’t make the finals, that would just make my year. Please God, grant me this one wish. Thanks.

  • Ric Hardwood

give me a break… dribbling the clock out at the end of games is an option. To complain about it is like a boxer saying, “Why did he know me out for? He was winning every round!”… puh-lease…

  • Ric Hardwood

give me a break… dribbling the clock out at the end of games is an option. To complain about it is like a boxer saying, “Why did he KNOCK me out for? He was winning every round!”… puh-lease…

  • Gumdrop

No it’s more like a boxer giving his opponent another little jab after he’s already been knocked down.

  • Gumdrop

However, I loved the use of “puh-lease.”

This Celtic team are the most disliked reigning champions ever

  • http://www.ravingblacklunatic.blogspot.com Allenp

If Detroit doesn’t make it, I want the Celtics and Lakers in the Finals again.
Who cares if they act like jerks? I still want to see those two teams battle again.

  • k.o.

it wasn’t a regular oop – Rondo bounced it off the floor And1 style to Powe for the dunk, with 1 second left. Triano called a timeout before the clock ran out and stared towards the Celtics bench for a few before taking his time to draw up a pointless play. He wanted to make the Celts wait as long as possible to leave the floor for being a bunch of d-bags

  • riggs

WE LOVE THE HATE. especially after everyone was on our goddamn bandwagon last year, you flip floppers :)

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

maybe if yall werent such suckers you wouldnt have been put in this prediciment in the first place. Teams do this all the time, it even happens when my Cats are getting destroyed. These Celtics guys are just trying to play basketball, deal with it you winny b!tches.

  • ClydeSays

Please. That timeout with 1 second left was classless.

Take your loss and go home.

  • dfrance

I’m tired of people whining about class and all that garbage. The point is to win the game and thats what the Celtics are doing… winning games. Who cares how it’s done as long as they don’t break the rules. Most of the greats were some of the dirtiest classless b@stards to ever play. Most of the time, nice guys finish last.

  • http://www.commuto.com SteveA

Bargs is more clutch than Bosh. I love his play the last 8 games. If he continues gaining confidence the team will be his within a couple of years. Also, Roko will be better than Calderon within 2 years. Count on it.

  • Jess

The Celts already has the game won..I didnt like that, and thought Jay Triano was gonna lay into him haha…oh and the time out was a reaction to that ridicuous dunk..and to show the Raps that they fought hard, and to try and carry over to the next game. And hey, there wouldnt have been a timeout by the Raps if they would have dribbled the 1 second out right?

  • rainman10

yo overtime…more disliked than bad boy detroit?

  • AlbertBarr

@dfrance – the point of basketball is to win games…some people just look better doing it. And the Celts did have quite the ugly slump there.

  • Apo

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that Triano called that timeout.
give back the taste of douchebag the celts gave us in the first place.

    Good on ya Jay.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

I think the Raps are a little sensitive after KG went at Jose earlier this season. Also, I think a Cavs Lakers finals would be amazing (even though I hate the Fakeshow, and want desperately for my Spurs to get one more ring with Timmy)mostly because LeBreezy would affirm his greatness and we’d all get to watch Kobe coming to grips with “second best” status. How long of a deal did Calderon sign? He looks old already.

  • John D

Boo freakin hoo. It wasn’t even that bad. And with the number of times that Toronto came back in that game after it seemed like it was over it’s better to be safe than sorry.

  • http://www.ravingblacklunatic.blogspot.com Allenp

I changed my mind. I’d rather see Bron and Kobe go at in the Finals.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

^ Yes, so the End Of the Purple Reign can be on full display for the entire world to watch.

Although, I’m sure even if Lebron won a head to head Finals against the Lakers this season, he’d still be #2 on the 09 SLAM Top Fifty behind Bean, so it doesn’t really matter in the long run.

  • http://docfunk.blogspot.com Doc Funk

Oh, you’ve gone and made Kris Humphries mad. Its too late to apologize. Pray he takes mercy on you and makes your demise quick and painless. Be afraid, Celtics. Be afraid.

  • http://hypebeast.com Spaceship Jay

The Celtics did have a slump, and now there what, 30 and 9? That still stands as a tremendous winning record. I still feel that Boston not having PJ Brown or Posey is going to have an interesting affect come playoff time… And the confidence of the NBA has risen in their slump. I’m no Celtics hater, I find the irony of having perhaps the blackest, most American team in the NBA beating up on everyone else (and it being Boston no less) with their heartless euro-players and whinny pre-maddonnas quite amusing.

  • http://www.commuto.com SteveA

I hate the Celts more and more every time I watch them. I can’t remember being happier to see a team have such a slump. It’s not that they are the champs, it’s just KG and his classless attitude that has spread across the whole team (with the possible exception of Big Baby, who seems oh so nice). I really hope Bron takes care of them quickly. It’s like D.J said “if you stand up to them, they will back down” or something to that affect. Fake gangsters.

  • http://nbacheapseats.blogspot.com Chendaddy

boston needs to keep these antics up, or they’d fall out of the news altogether. cant wait for cavs-lakers in the spring.

  • http://hypebeast.com Spaceship Jay

  • Oli

showing up opponents is what the celtics do. remember that gerald green oop off the backboard a couple of years ago? it happened in the last seconds, in a (at that time rare) boston win against the raptors, of course. loved that dunk, though

  • http://hypebeast.com Spaceship Jay

SteveA, you MUST remember the legend of Anthony Peeler. That should take care of all of your KG “tough guy” thoughts. (Mufasa voice): REMEMBER…………….

  • Gumdrop

I don’t have a problem with KG or Pierce acting tough. I just hate it when the coat-tail riding biddy ballers start running their mouths or acting all demonstatively.

  • JoeMaMa

Garnett showed no class when he waved his finger in Jose’s face. The alley oop was unnecessary. They are proving to be classless winners. Everyone’s come across someone like that. No one likes them.
My kingdom to the man who beer-showers Garnett upon entry/exit to any NBA court.
*kingdom includes several fresh white socks, treadmill*

  • http://hypebeast.com Spaceship Jay

That would be quite costly, and cowardly for a NBA fan. Comedic too. But still. Somebody just needs to catch that in game Tech/potential suspension SON!!

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Was it classless? Yes. Does it matter? It depends on whether these Celtics care about how they are perceived by their peers and the general public. They went from media darlings to a bunch of jerks. Nobodies like Humphries and rookies like Augustin are calling them out. Again, they might not care one bit and that would be absolutely fine. But it’s a fact. I don’t remembere a champion team that was getting as little respect around the league as this Boston team.

  • http://fdsjklf.com Jukai

Every game that goes by, I’m hoping someone lays one of the Celtics out. Anyone but Allen. These guys are the definition of D-Bags.

  • vmcb

    yeah, f*ck the celtics.

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

Where is Danny Fortson when you need him?

  • a_whiteman

This just proves yet again how soft the raptors. Maybe if you guys gave bosh the ball at some point in overtime you could have wob the game. But no, they would much rather have kapono, golden graham, and rokocop win the game, its not like bosh is your best player or anything.

  • a_whiteman

@steveA…bargs is nowhere near as clutch/good as bosh. he is on the rise ill give you that, but better then bosh? You must be high, bosh is a top5 pf in the league, meanwhile bargs is averaging over 4 boards a game for the first time in his life. Bargs Better then bosh lmfwao

  • k.o.

Bosh was gassed. Garnett was defending him well all game and he didn’t have any juice left come the OT, so they went to their other options

  • JoeMaMa

We lost because the big 3 were the big 3, white man.
Don’t hate on Roko. He’s stepping up.

I pray that Kermit Washington launches an improbable comeback and plays JUST ONCE against the Celtics. -no disrespect, Rudy-

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Waaahhh, waahhh, the big bad Ceatles are sooo nasty. They ooped one on us late in the game. Man up already, Raptors.

  • a_whiteman

I wasn’t hating on rokocop, I’m just saying I’m not leaving the fate of such a huge win for my struggling team on the shoulders of my euro-rook, he has impressed me the last month or so. Jose better be careful, or he could end up like tj, cuz there’s no room for 2 good pgs up here ask tj

  • http://deleted Fresh

hey the celtics said it if you want to shut them up then up then beat them quite a few people have done that including the raptors so the will keep talking. the REALLY funny thing about this is that when KG was doing the same thing he was doing now and loosing then it was showing heart, now that he is doing the same thing and winning he has an attitude problem i mean come on.
But in that scenario i wouldnt not have thrown that alley opp, although the only way he could was off the bounce because if he picked it up it would have been a walk. but who am i to say when throw an opp or not i am not a strong all star candidate and an NBA CHAMPION.
I mean i understand where some teams are coming from but the raptors need to shut up, they finding something to cry over. I mean they get paid millions of dollars to entertain and thats exactly what they did. it was an exciting game with an exciting finish. And who is to say Coach Doc Rivers got into his team for the alley oop

  • KobeWearsThreeRings

Fast forward to 2010. Lebron is a Laker.

  • http://hypebeast.com Spaceship Jay

Uhhh yeah, uhh anyway, When did the celtics become intimidating in the first place? Who os the intimidator? KG, Pierce? Powe?

  • http://hypebeast.com Spaceship Jay

  • rapsfan43

No worries AP…We will get them in the playoffs.

  • John D

    What the f*ck is a pre-maddonna?

  • http://gmail.com Spaceship Jay

Sorry, that should be spelled “prima donna”, I didn’t have the patience to do the research for spelling. It someone that you would call that is vain and temperamental.

  • Jman

I think he’s talking about Cher.

  • Bballrehab

Speaking of the Raptors. Seems Sam Smith told that there might be soon a trade involving Nash and Calderon. Anyone heard about that?

  • Sarah

I didn’t think it was a huge deal, but it was pointless. No one really needed this to know that the Celtics are pretty classless winners, though. And yes, it does matter. Act like you’ve been there before, scrubs.

  • Mendel

This is a professional basketball leauge. GROW UP. The name of the game is to put you to shame aqnd leave you for dead.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

    I think alley-oops look nice.

  • billmagnum

In the immortal words of Dan Gable…”Show up, dominate, and go home!” Since when does this not apply? Since every fanboy was given a voice on the internet… Anyone remember the bad boys not shaking the bulls hands after finally losing to jordan? That’s the epitome of no class. If you don’t want to get punked, stop somebody, I don’t care if it’s in the first quarter or the last second of a game. STOP SOMEBODY if you don’t want to get embarrassed. I love the celtics haters, keep bringin’ it on chuckleheads. The more you whine the more I laugh, so thank you.

Uhhh, OK Gumdrop. I’ll refrain from comment. Just out of curiosity, what kinda rant were you expecting? I’ll confirm whether I was going to or not.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Ahahaha my Knicks beat those b!tch@ss Celts. Raptors will get them one day, don’t worry Toronto.
Also, the Rockets f*cked them up too.
Stupid @ss trash talkers. Remember when KG barked at Jerryd Bayless on his knees? What in the blue hell is that guy thinking sometimes?

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Where is Anthony Peeler when you need him?

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

I’m hoping for a Bulls/Sonics Finals rematch this year.

  • slamfan4life

hah russ i like that inthusiasm, but did anyone here about the Bulls-Raptors trade rumors going on?

    Supposedly Hughes&Noche for O’Neal?

  • Josh

KG’s antics were always great when he wasn’t winning but now, it would be nice to see a little class from someone that I used to love watching play. When you win and show the other team up it just makes you look petty.

  • pelo999

honestly the celtics are jerks….they have ABSOLUTELY NO CLASS whatsoever…i mean never have i seen some 7 foot player guard a point guard down the court and wag his crusty a** finger in someones face..im sorry, but that just makes ur whole team look disgustimgly rude….KG needs to chill, like he was totally up everyones face yesterday trying to statr something, BUT GUESS WHAT …NO ONE, AND I MEAN NO ONE IN THE LEAGUE WANTS TO STOOP DOWN TO UR LEVEL!!SO SAVOUR IT WHILE IT LAST CUZ IM SORRY RAY, PAUL, AND KG, THIS WAS YA’LLS FIRST AND LAST RING..

  • ab_40

can someone please give people in the raptors organisation a hug?

and some teddy bears to the celtics they just want some attention.

the celtics are third in the east who could’ve guessed that.
and J.O is injured for toronto which is too bad I wanted to see him succeed there.

  • http://www.bbaxn.com Darksaber

first calderon and kg. Then this? Budding rivalry? I think not.

  • rabn21

I can just hear the sound of the Celts crying themselves to sleep after reading these quotes!!! So hurtfull!!!

  • HBooyah

    Calderon + Parker + O’Neal for . . . a 2 and a 3. Start Roko. Acknowledge you’re “not there yet” and stop trying to be.

  • Boston Baller

“The alley oop was unnecessary. They are proving to be classless winners. Everyone’s come across someone like that. No one likes them. My kingdom to the man who beer-showers Garnett upon entry/exit to any NBA court.” A team gets a steal and dunks regardless of when is just a play…point blank. Suggesting that someone throws beer on a player is more classless than anything a Celtic has done all year. This is a game folks, it’s not that’s serious. I’m glad your displaced anger is towards a team and not your fsmily or friends. lol. T. Crook

  • Boston Baller

? 4 u guys. Was KG classless when he pulled Glenn Davis into the huddle and yelled at him and everyone else? KG “I was trying to inspire our guys” “I’ll get with him in the locker room”. I guess that was classless…. This is what I’ve been saying throughout the year about KG, he yells and screams at EVERYONE. Teammates, opponents, himself AND noone inparticular. lol. MJ, Bird, G Payton et al did the same things.

  • jason benn

ha was any one complaining when the celtics of old had a huge lead and would go for the kill and step on the opposin teams throat to say we are the best dont f**k with us. just because the raptors got beat doesnt me the whole team has to pull a glen davis and cry about it u lost man the hell up.

  • Deven

Its sickening to see that people have lost the meaning to the term “classless”, to me waving a finger in somebody’s face is no more classless than an individual throwing beer on a player or a cheap shot. Im a Bulls fan, so I was familiar with every antic the Pistons tried against us. We indeed beat ourselves before we were able to conquer them en route to our first ring. But the Pistons are the epitome of classlesness and I dont want to here anybody say differently.
