Thunder Get Chucky Atkins

Talk about a downslope move for a League vet: “OKC gets 10-year veteran point guard Chucky Atkins, a 2009 first-round draft pick and cash from the Denver Nuggets in exchange for reserve center Johan Petro and a 2009 second-round draft pick.”

More like ‘OKC gets a 2009 first-round pick’. Nothing against Atkins, but he’s not exactly the final-piece-of-the-championship-puzzle type vet in this scenario.

OKC has the potential to be good in a few years time, so they are trying to build for that I spose, and Chucky could probably be a good mentor type figure.
Yeh Im reaching here because Denver definitely got the better of the deal….

petro is awful… Terrible! I’d trade him out of the picture anyday for a first round pick. Great move. Petro is awwwwwwful. Waste of genes

Sorry, Hursty, Oklahoma City got the better end of this deal by far. Petro looked decent preseason, but since then he hasn’t done anything except use up oxygen.

You also have to remember that less than $800K of Atkin’s contract for next year is guaranteed, meaning he’s essentially expendable.

Is this one of those “veteran gets bought out and returns to his previous team” deals?

Denver never has a first round draft pick
