Andrew Bynum Out 8 to 12 Weeks

by Ryne Nelson

There’s no other way to spin it: the Lakers are in some deep trouble. Phil Jackson lamented Bynum’s injury after its win against Memphis, and with good reason. Bynum was coming into his own, averaging about 26 ppg in his past five. It was the most forlorn Jackson’s been in front on of the media in a long time.

Jackson as well as the rest of the Lakers had hopes of taking its Western Conf.-best record deep into the Playoffs again, but things have gotten a lot more difficult. The news of Bynum’s torn MCL, comes straight from the Lakers organization:

Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum has a torn right MCL and will be sidelined eight to 12 weeks, the team announced Monday.

So suddenly, the Lakers of 2009 look a lot like the Lakers of 2008. Except this time, the Grizzlies Chris Wallace doesn’t seem to be willing to give up his big man in exchange for an expiring or two.

In a best-case scenario, Bynum returns in eight weeks on April 1. That means he would play in the Lakers’ final eight regular-season games. But don’t expect to see Bynum until the Playoffs, if at all.

    that’s just great…

  • al Posted: Feb.2 at 3:27 pm
    wow . that. sux.

  • RV Posted: Feb.2 at 3:28 pm
not really sure what to think of this because the lakers aren’t “done” just because of it. He could also possibly come back at full strength by the conf finals and the lakers could definitely get there without him. didn’t his rehab last year take a lot longer than expected?? That may be the key this year.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.2 at 3:28 pm
I think he’ll be back for the playoffs this season.

  • Franchise Posted: Feb.2 at 3:28 pm
I still think they will come out of the west but if they face Boston in the Finals it will be the same results as last time.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Feb.2 at 3:30 pm
I heard Chris Bosh is looking for a new team…

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.2 at 3:32 pm
Monkey King, Chris Mihm, Luke and Lamar and 6 draft picks for Bosh?

  • Zee! Posted: Feb.2 at 3:32 pm
Thanks a lot Kobe. I thought you only broke ankles?

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.2 at 3:32 pm
Um, yeah. This is all too familiar. See you next season, Andrew.

  • Ken Posted: Feb.2 at 3:33 pm
Man, that’s tough. Can’t imagine what he’s goin through right now. But I think the Lake Show will be alright. Kobe will get ‘em back to the Finals and hopefully Bynum will be back on his feet by then.

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.2 at 3:34 pm
Ryne: Is that sarcasm, or are you reporting something?

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Feb.2 at 3:35 pm
when is gerald wallace coming back?

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Feb.2 at 3:36 pm
TAD: The one and only SAS reported that Bosh is on the block over the weekend. Could be interesting…

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.2 at 3:38 pm
So are the Miami papers, TAD, and they were reporting that Marion/Beasley and filler have been offered. It’s not happening.

  • Herfdawg Posted: Feb.2 at 3:38 pm
I don’t know if their season is over… especially considering they won 12 playoff games last year with this squad minus Ariza. And considering the difference between a knee injury like the one he had last year and a minor tear to his MCL, he should be back ~the playoffs. Now, will he help? Debate.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Feb.2 at 3:39 pm
ryne, thats bs, who would they possibly trade him for? do they want charlie v back?

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Feb.2 at 3:40 pm
A Beasley and Marion package seems wrong from the getgo, though.

  • RV Posted: Feb.2 at 3:40 pm
if the lakers get bosh for Luke and a 2020 second round pick, i’m kicking someone’s ass…

  • scott Posted: Feb.2 at 3:40 pm
With Bynum’s quick healing powers (note last year) I’m sure Bynum will be back by the 09-10 season. No repeat of last years finals.

  • Anton Posted: Feb.2 at 3:40 pm
We’ll see if he really cares about Gerald Wallace, seeing as how he’ll now have plenty of time to visit him.

  • OneStep Posted: Feb.2 at 3:41 pm
If the Lakers didn’t have bad luck they’d have no luck at all.

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.2 at 3:41 pm
Wow, has that gotten its own article yet? If not, it deserves one.

  • scott Posted: Feb.2 at 3:41 pm
If Kobe never wins a ring on his own does he crack the all-time top ten player’s list? I would have to say no.

  • sam Posted: Feb.2 at 3:42 pm
    kobe how my knee taste?

  • Darksaber Posted: Feb.2 at 3:42 pm
Jokes aside, hope he recovers well from this, mentally and physically. This messes with your confidence big time, man mountain millionaire or not. Get well soon Bynum, we need to see a full lakers squad in the Playoffs so that we can finally end this “bynum-less lakers” discussion.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Feb.2 at 3:42 pm
Tarzan, you’re right, the Lakers probably aren’t going to make a big trade for Bosh, especially because he’d want to be there long-term. There’s Shaq, though!

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Feb.2 at 3:44 pm
Co-sign, Scott. I first wrote that we won’t be Bynum this season, but thought better of it. He could very well come back for the Playoffs. Whether they’ll wan to bring him back at that time, though, it another issue.

  • SLAM ONLINE | Posted: Feb.2 at 3:45 pm
    [...] Bynum Out 2-3 Months [...]

  • Anton Posted: Feb.2 at 3:46 pm
Kareem added: “F*ck this, I’m gonna go train with Dwight Howard.”

  • Gumdrop Posted: Feb.2 at 3:48 pm
Bosh just vehemently denied Smith’s report, you can check it out on the Toronto Star website. I don’t know why people would think that SAS has sources close to Bosh anyways–Bosh can’t stand the guy.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.2 at 3:48 pm
Am I the only that thinks tonight the Lakers hit a trap game against the Knicks and get one of the Knicks really good performances for the win at home, especially with this news hanging over the team? Nah….

  • Stargazey Posted: Feb.2 at 3:50 pm
Odom’s got his starting job back at least.

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.2 at 3:51 pm
D’Antoni knows how to beat the Lakers. It wouldn’t surprise me….

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Feb.2 at 3:52 pm
this is karma working in so many ways. last season, bynum got hurt against the grizz, then chris wallace gifted pau to the lakers, now bynum goes down again against the grizz, the basketball gods are fair,…. unless don-a-gie and stern have any say(ie 02kings vs lakers)

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.2 at 3:53 pm
Unless the Grizz decide to trade OJ to the Lakers for DJ Mebenga.

  • Brandon Hoffman Posted: Feb.2 at 3:54 pm
“Deep trouble?” The Lakers are 5 games ahead of the Spurs for the top spot in the West. LA’d odds of securing homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs may have taken a hit, but this is still the same team that advanced to the Finals last season.

  • G-Nice Posted: Feb.2 at 3:54 pm
Bynum will be back in time for the playoffs. Everyone is writing the lakers off but we will see what kobe has to say about all this. ya dig

  • RV Posted: Feb.2 at 3:57 pm
so NOW can we blame Kobe if they fall short again??

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.2 at 3:57 pm
Yeah…..deep trouble would be accurate for a team that has it’s eyes on a title….not just a playoff spot.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Feb.2 at 3:58 pm
    yes rv

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Feb.2 at 3:59 pm
if bynum can play in 2 months, is he going to add to the team or take away from it?

  • Darksaber Posted: Feb.2 at 4:01 pm
Oh like nobody blamed him for failing to “impose his will as the game’s best, brightest, most clutch and talented” during the last finals while playing against Ray, Tony and Posey?

  • RV Posted: Feb.2 at 4:01 pm
Nah Tarzan, i’ll just wait until next year when a Kobe airball takes Bynum out for the season.

  • KobeWearsAPurpleThong Posted: Feb.2 at 4:01 pm
Ever heard that John Lennon song “Instant Karma”? It goes like this Laker’s fans: “Instant Karma’s gonna getcha’,gonna slap you right in the face..” I bet G.Wallace has this little ditty on his IPod right about now…

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.2 at 4:01 pm
I wouldn’t say “deep trouble”, but any Lakers fan that would say they aren’t concerned about this, I will call them liars straight to their face.

  • Zee! Posted: Feb.2 at 4:02 pm
I really hope the media slams Kobe for this. He had three people open when he decided to try and pull off this stupid layup and crash into Bynum’s knee. If we don’t win the chip this year, blame Kobe, it’s the easy way out. It wasn’t like the Lake Show had a clear path to the championship anyway.

  • Michael Posted: Feb.2 at 4:02 pm
Bill SImmons was right. Bynum has become highly overated. Everyone is making seem like the Lakers are absolute garbage now. This is the same team that basically bitch slapped the western conference in getting to the finals. I expect nothing different this year.

  • witness Posted: Feb.2 at 4:03 pm
i think shaq is available if they want him.

  • Brandon Hoffman Posted: Feb.2 at 4:03 pm
Eboy: I guess that depends upon whether you think the Lakers can get by the Spurs and Hornets without Bynum. I think the Lakers can repeat in the West without Drew. There’s reason to question whether LA could defeat the Cavs or Celtics without Bynum, but if he returns before the playoffs, that would give him nearly two months to return to full strength before the NBA Finals.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.2 at 4:03 pm
How’d that bitch slapping go in Boston?

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Feb.2 at 4:03 pm
Brandon, I’d argue this team doesn’t go to the Finals without Bynum. They weren’t better than the Spurs with him, and I’m not convinced they can beat the Spurs in a seven game series without him.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.2 at 4:04 pm
True Brandon…..but there’s a big if in that mix…..and extended minutes for Chris Mihm is never a good look.

  • scott Posted: Feb.2 at 4:05 pm
Let us not forget Manu was hurt last year against LA in the West Fianls.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.2 at 4:05 pm
    Ryne’s making sense…..

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.2 at 4:05 pm
    Co-sign Ryne.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Feb.2 at 4:06 pm
If the playoffs started today, the people who organized All-Star weekend would be really upset.

  • ciolkstar Posted: Feb.2 at 4:06 pm
Don’t fret Laker stans… He’ll be back by 2010 and probably only want another 60 mill before he starts playing well again.

  • Anton Posted: Feb.2 at 4:07 pm
    Dear Laker opponents,
It has come to our attention that their excuse for not winning the title last year(Bynum) has gone down for the remainder of the regular season. This now puts us in the position to capitalize on this “unfortunate” incident. We hereby place a bounty on Kobe’s head…rather his right hand. Any player completing the mission must either:
    a.) dislocate a finger
b.) scratch or puncture skin to cause nerve damage
    c.) break wrist
d.) bite it (the Bruce Bowen option)
    will be awarded the bounty.
    Sincerely,
    The Eastern Conference

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Feb.2 at 4:07 pm
Also, you can’t spell “speculate” without “specula.”

  • Brandon Hoffman Posted: Feb.2 at 4:08 pm
Ryne: The Spurs have a shot. They’re 1-1 against the Lakers this season. A healthy Ginobili could be the difference. But I don’t think SA has enough firepower to beat the Lakers four times.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.2 at 4:10 pm
I’d be wary of those cats in Utah.

  • ciolkstar Posted: Feb.2 at 4:10 pm
    Roger. Mason. Jr.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.2 at 4:11 pm
I can only imagine that Lang will have the Lakers solely in the top spot on the Thrity 30….you know….because this will be a huge motivating contributer for the remainder of the season for the Lakers.

  • witness Posted: Feb.2 at 4:14 pm
this increases the rockets chances now. yao will stay healthy and continue to play at a high level until the playoffs. by the way: i think bynum is good but he is very over rated. hes not even top 5 centers in the nba.

  • Airnest Posted: Feb.2 at 4:14 pm
    Karma is a biatch…

  • Michael Posted: Feb.2 at 4:17 pm
    @Eboy: Not so well.

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.2 at 4:19 pm
Didn’t the Rockets bandwagon get sidelined with a sore back?

  • Anton Posted: Feb.2 at 4:19 pm
I don’t understand those saying that simply plopping Bynum into the line up come playoff or Finals time will magically ease all of their deficiencies. That’s a sham, a mockery. A shamockery.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Feb.2 at 4:24 pm
tim duncan has been amazing this year, easily his best since his mvp years. young blood with roger mason and george hill, vets that know how to win, finley, kurt thomas, etc. tony and tim have been great and manu looks like he has fully recovered from his injuries last year, i smell another spurs title

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.2 at 4:25 pm
Attention Lakers: The Pistons are willing to part with Kwame Brown so you can have his excellence back. We would only ask for Trevor Ariza.

  • tenorca Posted: Feb.2 at 4:30 pm
“If the Lakers didn’t have bad luck they’d have no luck at all” disremembers the Pau Gasol trade a little doesn’t it?

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.2 at 4:33 pm
Something tells me Quizno’s is not good for joints.

  • MeloMan13 Posted: Feb.2 at 4:36 pm
this is ultimate Karma and im loving it. i used to like Bynum until he did G wallace dirty.
and Kobe seemed like he was mad at Bynum when it was him who injured him….hate that guy

  • neaorin Posted: Feb.2 at 4:40 pm
If only he’d gotten suspended for a couple of games like he should have, none of this would’ve happened.

  • neaorin Posted: Feb.2 at 4:41 pm
@tenorca: and getting Shaq for free. And Kobe refusing to play for the team that drafted him. And…

  • Todd Spehr Posted: Feb.2 at 4:46 pm
    Somewhere Gerald Wallace is smiling

  • ciolkstar Posted: Feb.2 at 4:47 pm
They didn’t try to re-insert an injured Bynum last season, why would they try this season? Oh yeah, because the Lakers got bitched around by a couple of undersized, second-round bigs from Beantown. I dont think he’ll be back, but I think they’ll try to get Bynum on the floor at some point this season.

  • a_whiteman Posted: Feb.2 at 4:49 pm
Mr cheap shot is out because karma shows no bias!!!!!! Get well soon to him and g force, I hate to see injuries decide a teams fate.

  • Todd Spehr Posted: Feb.2 at 4:53 pm
Oh, and he was avg 26 in his last five matched up with the following people: DeAndre Jordan, Andray Blatche, Matt Bonner, Emeka Okafor, and Al Jefferson (who gave him 34)… let’s put it in perspective. I’m not hating, I’m just curious as to why people are so desperate to put him on a pedestal that he’s clearly not on yet.

  • tenorca Posted: Feb.2 at 4:55 pm
Yeah neaorin; I was just going for recent memory. Anybody that says “If the Lakers didn’t have bad luck they’d have no luck at all,” might not have a memory that goes back farther than a week and a half.

  • Rico Posted: Feb.2 at 4:57 pm
The lakers don’t need bynum…he’s the most overrated player in the nba… the lakers could win a championship with eddy curry starting center!

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.2 at 5:01 pm
    ^Another confused soul.

  • [...] front-court depth — not to mention their actually having two solid PGs — the fact that Andrew Bynum’s weekend knee injury turned out to be an MCL tear that will keep him out up to 12 weeks seems particularly [...]

  • iLL wiLL Posted: Feb.2 at 5:07 pm
Bynum actually waited at the BET Cats team bus to apologize to GMoney. So…um…yeah…Bynum is not really the ass you make him out to be.

  • and1ballermj2350 Posted: Feb.2 at 5:30 pm
YAY, NO BUYNUM! They are now vulrnable. everyone attack!

  • Allenp Posted: Feb.2 at 5:31 pm
Man, so it might be the Spurs year after all.

  • Z Posted: Feb.2 at 5:32 pm
Some guys need to chill with that karma bs. Dude got a freak injury and it’s very unfortunate. The Lakers can still come out of the West without him but they can kiss goodbye to homecourt advantage in the Finals. Which is huge.

  • Allenp Posted: Feb.2 at 5:38 pm
    Z
I don’t know about them coming out the West. Farmer is out, Odom is sulking and Kobe is hurt. With Bynum, that wasn’t as big a deal. Plus, they no longer have Turiah off the bench.
The West is much more wide open now. Denver could make some noise, Houston, Portland, even the Suns. Man, with LA hurt, every should feel like they have a shot now.

  • tenorca Posted: Feb.2 at 5:41 pm
Todd Spehr’s mostly right, cept Bynum got his against Duncan as well as Bonner and played a solid game against Timmy to boot. I’m not sold on him yet, but that game was impressive.

  • tenorca Posted: Feb.2 at 5:49 pm
Allenp’s right—except for the part about Houston.

  • Allenp Posted: Feb.2 at 5:55 pm
    Tenorca
Houston still has a shot. I’m only saying this because if it turns out to be true I can be vindicated for picking them earlier this year.

  • KobeWearsAPurpleThong Posted: Feb.2 at 5:58 pm
Bynum was overrated as it was. The Lakers will not lose to Boston again this June because of anything Bynum does or doesn’t do. They will lose to Boston again because Boston is simply a better team. Better defensively, better bench (yeah, that’s right) and have 3 go to guys-the Lakers have 1 go to guy. If Kobe ever went down, the Lakers would be a 6 seed at best. In the immortal words of Darth Vader: “search your feelings, you know it to be true…”

  • tenorca Posted: Feb.2 at 6:02 pm
Allenp: I feel what you’re saying about them having a shot on paper. I’ve just watched this team crumble so many times and have no faith in their Less Big Three being healthy come playoff time.
Also, dude who said that Boston has a better bench than LA might never have watched basketball in his entire life.

  • BynumWearsAPurpleThong Posted: Feb.2 at 6:02 pm
B-U-S-T. Always said he’s overrated. Now he’s injury-prone too. Sorry L.A, but you ain’t goin to the finals this year.

  • scott Posted: Feb.2 at 6:08 pm
@AllenP…You’re right this isn’t the Lakers year. It is Cleveland’s year. Long live King James.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Feb.2 at 6:16 pm
neaorin Posted: Feb.2 at 4:40 pm
If only he’d gotten suspended for a couple of games like he should have, none of this would’ve happened.

  • Anton Posted: Feb.2 at 6:17 pm
I expect Denver to make some noise, they won’t be the 8th seed this year and certainly are not going to be swept in the first round.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Feb.2 at 6:19 pm
think phil jackson all of a sudden misses turiaf?

  • thesubwayconnection Posted: Feb.2 at 6:19 pm
I think he’ll be on the playoff roster, but won’t be back April 1. Chemistry be damned.

  • ab_40 Posted: Feb.2 at 6:19 pm
it’s a damn shame… but it’s good for the nba the western confrence will be blown wide open if kobe has a few games where he isn’t playing like all that. LA is still the deapest team in the leauge but that inside man especialy on D is something theyre gonna miss. and he’s still so young this doesn’t bode well for the future

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.2 at 6:26 pm
The lakes did o.k without bynum last year..Who really in the West do you back to beat L.A over 7 other than San Antonio, and they barely got within earshot last year…Bynum’s injury may be the difference in the Finals, but getting there shouldn’t pose too many problems..

  • Jacob Posted: Feb.2 at 6:33 pm
deja vu this is going to happen a lot to injury prone bynum

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Feb.2 at 6:34 pm
@ witness: Really? Name five pure centers better than Bynum right now.

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.2 at 6:43 pm
San Antonio – same team as last year, healthy Manu though???
Denver, New Orleans – no depth
Houston- problematic and injury prone(Yao and Tmac)
    Phoenix, Dallas – No D
    Portland – good but inexperienced
Utah – same as last year, better Millsapp but with a banged up Deron and Boozer.

  • Witness Posted: Feb.2 at 6:49 pm
Yao, Dwight, Big Z, Al Jefferson, Shaq. (Nene, Emeka, Rasheed Walace and Andrew Bogut are all noteworthy)

  • Witness Posted: Feb.2 at 6:50 pm
@ jaymes LA Lakers – Soft and no Front court depth.

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.2 at 6:54 pm
Yeah true, missing Turiaf will only hurt if Pau gets in foul trouble though(has he ever been in foul trouble?) and who out of the contenders will knock them over, other than maybe San An?

  • tenorca Posted: Feb.2 at 6:56 pm
Witness forgot Biedrins. But so does everybody.

  • tenorca Posted: Feb.2 at 6:58 pm
I still think the Hornets can make some noise against the Lakers. They don’t seem as sharp this year, but they’ve got a half season to round back into form. And they’ve got CP3 going against Derek Fisher and Jordan Farmar. Not a good thing for the Lakers there.
Also: Spurs aren’t quite the same this year. Bonner’s getting plenty of PT and Hill and Mason are new (and contributing) additions. Plus, like I noted above, I thought Bynum hung with Timmy when they played a couple weeks back. Can Pau? Not really.

  • Witness Posted: Feb.2 at 7:01 pm
@ jaymes : Rockets are looking good but only if yao isnt injured. And i know all you have some smart remarks about his health staus but consider that the man is carrying the weight of an entire country. Does Yi get this much attention? He is in a much larger market than Yao is.

  • Witness Posted: Feb.2 at 7:05 pm
I think Marc Gasol is a much tougher plyer than his brother and he is really under rated defensively. We cant forhet that Portland has raef lafrentz expiring contract and can lure Jermaine O’Neal or Gerald Wallace to town.

  • sho nuf Posted: Feb.2 at 7:09 pm
Lakers getting that number 1 seed no problem. Can’t see any problems going through the conference playoffs, but the Finals may be an issue should Bynum not come back, in which case I may want Mbenga back and playing during the regular season to prove his worth. Also, having Ariza this year is a difference maker though, not to mention his J has been improving. Love when the haters come out to play, btw. It’s fun to follow Utah and Golden State, isn’t it?

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.2 at 7:11 pm
@witness…every year either Yao or Tmac goes down injured just before the playoffs, their too hard to back IMO…Too many issues in Houston….@tenorca, my only prob with the Spurs is last year the Lakers beat them looking like a younger, faster version of San Antionio…

  • tenorca Posted: Feb.2 at 7:16 pm
@ Jaymes…Oh yeah: Lakers were dominant in that series, and that’s coming from a convicted Laker hater. But a real Manu and the Hill/Mason upgrade over the Big Shot Bob/Bowen geriatric brigade lets them keep up with the Lakers. At least a little.
In the end, I’d expect it to be closer than last year’s match if it comes to it. And I hope it does. It’s always a great series.

  • Witness Posted: Feb.2 at 7:24 pm
@ Jaymes: Yao has only missed the playoffs once while his has qualified and that was last season. McGrady never misses the playoofs, he actually always performs much better tahn expected. Check the stats. I dont know where youre getting your resources from.

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.2 at 7:26 pm
Yeah true tenorca, it should be closer at least…the game they played earlier this season in San An was game of the year for me!!

  • Witness Posted: Feb.2 at 7:31 pm
That was the game of the year for me too. My only problem with the spurs is every team respects them. If a team tried to punk them they could easily be exposed, i mean if somebody matched bowen’s game, it wouldnt be the same story with them always getting deep into the playoffs.

  • RV Posted: Feb.2 at 7:32 pm
Bynum is basically is having the same kind of luck bynum is having. I’m not quite sure “Yao not getting injured” is what houston is hoping for. Tmac is more likely to go down. Yao hasn’t had more than bumps and bruises this year.

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.2 at 7:32 pm
Ok my bad witness, maybe just cause they choke when it counts every year it seems as though they’re injured!..And generally, they’ve had injuries in the back half of seasons..which leaves you in bad shape leading in..

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.2 at 7:36 pm
Yeah witness, if the Spurs don’t do it this year they may be headed down Detroit’s rebuilding path..

  • tenorca Posted: Feb.2 at 7:36 pm
If somebody tried to punk the Spurs they’d be exposed? As what? Perenial contenders? Winners of 40% of the NBA trophies in the last decade? Most people hate Bowen, admittedly, but you’re just talking nonsense over there.

  • Witness Posted: Feb.2 at 7:37 pm
jaymes dont turn this into a debate. the rockets are a much different team with the culture that brent barry and ron artest have brought. i think they are a rocky regular season team who can become a threat when the playoffs come around.

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.2 at 7:40 pm
Ok cool, your opinion Witness..No debate here pal. My opinion is just different to yours..I hope for Tmac’s sake your on point!

  • Witness Posted: Feb.2 at 7:41 pm
The spurs dont have the toughness other teams have. they are filled with a bunch of players who are respected by referees and opposing players. the spurs are a team who tries to exploit weaknesses of their opponent. beat these guys at their own h=game and forget they are the san antonio spurs. pretend they are the mavericks.

  • Witness Posted: Feb.2 at 7:42 pm
so do i, jaymes. so do i. but with bynum i still think the lakers are the best team in the l. without him i dont know what to think.

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.2 at 7:47 pm
Dunno bout the Spurs havin no toughness though witness..big call dude..

  • Cp34mVP Posted: Feb.2 at 7:48 pm
Well, Welcome to the real word Bynum.. I think he be like Amare Stoudemire, he got probs with his knees in his first few seasons then he gets dominant.. yah digg.. Anyway.. this chills the lakers so my Hornets can win!

  • tenorca Posted: Feb.2 at 7:49 pm
Not feeling you here Witness. They aren’t outwardly thuggish, true, but they got a pair of great players who drive constantly and take heaps of abuse for it. And Timmy simply doesn’t get pushed around. They’re not the late ’80s Pistons or anything, but they are far from soft.

  • BETCATS Posted: Feb.2 at 7:54 pm
no comment besides i am sorry to see any player injured.

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.2 at 8:01 pm
Say what you really want BET?..Your in danger of becoming another partial observer, instead of a Bobcats fan…

  • BETCATS Posted: Feb.2 at 8:04 pm
well, i am the same BETCATS that defended Bynum from the ‘karma is a b!tch’ comments, HOWEVER i am also the same BETCATS who is not sad to see Bynum out a few games.

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.2 at 8:09 pm
    Very diplomatic BETCATS…

  • BETCATS Posted: Feb.2 at 8:17 pm
i am on a site run by Laker fans, on a post by a Laker fan, and have made enough reckless plays at the park myself to adjust my views to such jaymes.

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.2 at 8:27 pm
I think if anyone who plays the game with spirit has given a cheap foul thier not to proud of..Some lads on here need to keep that in mind when they tee off on someone for comitting a hard, and maybe harsh, foul..

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.2 at 8:27 pm
    take out the *if..

  • Ben Osborne Posted: Feb.2 at 8:29 pm
BETCATS: this site is far from run by Laker fans. The comments section at times, sure, but not “the site.”

  • Witness Posted: Feb.2 at 8:29 pm
but he commited a similar foul to lebron james this season.

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.2 at 8:41 pm
So, Shaq has comitted stacks of hard fouls, same as alot of players..We just focussed on Bynum ’cause wallace’s injury was so bad, not the actual foul.

  • ClydeSays Posted: Feb.2 at 8:42 pm
Here’s hoping Bynum can heal and come back strong next season. This season seems like a stretch for him to return. Comparing him to Stoudemire? I’d say Bynum has more upside at this point. Ama’re has offense but he seems to forget about defense every other trip down the floor.

  • BETCATS Posted: Feb.2 at 8:45 pm
Ben!!! I thought you were in some cave hiding! Well Holly, Myles, and Marcel are all Laker fans, and most of the staff here (and myself) picked them to win it all and expressed admiration of them at one point or another, but i see what your saying. Farmer Jones is still ‘the biggest boss that we have seen thus far’, and he is the opposite of a Laker fan.

  • James the balla Posted: Feb.2 at 8:48 pm
Kobe drops 34 in first half!!! :D … guess whoooooo’s BAAACCCCKKKKKKKK!!

  • James the balla Posted: Feb.2 at 8:52 pm
Guess whooooo’ssssss BAACCCKKKKK And why do my comments keep getting “awaiting moderation”!!

  • Jess Posted: Feb.2 at 8:53 pm
Im not a Bynum and especailly not a Lakers fan, but that hurts LA. It too bad this happened to him, I hope he has a full recovery.

  • BETCATS Posted: Feb.2 at 8:55 pm
James: Because you had to much Canadian-style sex with each of them?

  • James the balla Posted: Feb.2 at 8:57 pm
Thanks BET … that is a possibilty!! But your gf is alot better for that!!

  • BETCATS Posted: Feb.2 at 8:59 pm
your in Canada. She doesnt like round shaped bacon for breakfast, which means she wont spend the night with you.

  • James the balla Posted: Feb.2 at 9:00 pm
I know you miss my BURRRNNNN’s lol

  • James the balla Posted: Feb.2 at 9:02 pm
Good thing I didn’t ask her to spend the night!!! I kicked her the eff out of my house after I got what I needed!!! Holla at me if and when the baby comes out white or black!! :D

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Feb.2 at 9:05 pm
bynums foul on wallace wasnt just another hard foul, it was beyond that and past harsh. it was a dirty play. he saw wallace driving, knew he couldnt get there to make a play on the ball, so he jumped into his body elbow first. sure, it doesnt look really dirty to the untrained eye, but it was worse than it looked. when shaq dropped stuckey, that was a hard foul by a giant human. bynum knew he couldnt block wallace so he gave him a flying elbow, thats extremely dirty

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.2 at 9:08 pm
Your opinion tarzan, i’m not getting into it again, had plenty of it the other day..

  • Anton Posted: Feb.2 at 9:22 pm
I’m sure Kobe’s enjoying having to drop 40+ a night for the rest of the season. Just loving it.

  • Dacre Posted: Feb.2 at 9:23 pm
    hehhee…missed all that.
They basically get set-back to the roster that made the finals last year PLUS Trevor Ariza. Still a B+ in my books.

  • Joel O's Posted: Feb.2 at 9:26 pm
Oh no. That sucks. I just hope they don’t rush him back for the playoffs. He’s got a very good career ahead of him.

  • mutoni Posted: Feb.2 at 10:00 pm
it doesn’t make up for the injury, but the 60 points at msg from kb makes me feel a little better.

  • Big O Posted: Feb.2 at 10:01 pm
Karma’s a bitch… shout out to gerald wallace

  • Z Posted: Feb.2 at 10:10 pm
Damn, I criticize him a lot… but DAMN. That was an ‘easy’ 60, if such a thing can exist. DAMN.

  • darren Posted: Feb.2 at 10:11 pm
The weird thing is if he had gotten suspended for his hit on Gerald Wallace this probably wouldn’t have happened. Karma is a strange thing…..

  • Z Posted: Feb.2 at 10:11 pm
People have to stop with the whole scoring record at msg, scoring record vs the knicks… the knicks are not and have never been a basketball powerhouse. dudes have been giving them buckets.

  • AlbertBarr Posted: Feb.2 at 10:12 pm
    Kobe scores 61

  • AlbertBarr Posted: Feb.2 at 10:13 pm
    He’s pissed-off

  • Anton Posted: Feb.2 at 10:14 pm
I wanna see him drop 61 against the Raptors then get r@ped in Boston

  • Michael Posted: Feb.2 at 10:16 pm
That was the easiest 60 points ever.

  • KBDWILL Posted: Feb.2 at 10:28 pm
KB BABY! I’m glad i watched that game, I always miss the good stuff!!!!

  • Z Posted: Feb.2 at 10:32 pm
117 to the Knicks is not impressive, though.

  • niQ Posted: Feb.2 at 10:53 pm
    deja vu.

  • dma Posted: Feb.2 at 11:03 pm
1 out of four years bynum’s been majorly hurt… i think he gets the injury prone tag starting. now.

  • MalevolentKing7242 Posted: Feb.2 at 11:31 pm
time for kobe and pau to pull a jordan and peppen season… maybe well get marc from the grizz… deja vu…

  • Darksaber Posted: Feb.3 at 12:08 am
Gotta hand it to the guy, KB8x3 KNOWS DRAMA. (take that, TNT).

  • stokesey Posted: Feb.3 at 12:22 am
I think Kobe just put it into 3rd gear…..

  • Sean Posted: Feb.3 at 12:22 am
Z, did you watch the game?
the last 3 minutes the Lakers basically said ok knicks go ahead and score to give kobe the ball. they also scored like 10 points in the last 65 seconds. and its the knicks, they’re gonna score. look at what the lakers did to memphis the other day, they only gave up i think 33 in the second half

  • BigBigWaddy Posted: Feb.3 at 3:05 am
KARMA BABY. What goes around, comes around. You reap what you sow. Bynum took a cheap shot on Wallace, and that sissy Kobe tore his knee. NO LOVE for the Lakers, all over now.

  • j4zz m4n Posted: Feb.3 at 3:22 am
i feel that bynum will come back earlier than expected for some reason.the lakers have an adequate front court.their problem is the point…

  • Son of Shawn Posted: Feb.3 at 5:03 am
And now that we know that Young Gasol is a good player too, I´m sure that Jerry West can talk Chris Wallace an offer the Monkey King in exchange (it´s a better trade for the Grizzlies than last year´s)

  • James the balla Posted: Feb.3 at 5:40 am
    KOBE BABY!!!!

  • Panagiotis Vasilopoulos Posted: Feb.3 at 7:45 am
    @James the balla….:oh yes!!!!

  • James the balla Posted: Feb.3 at 8:56 am
:D … who says Lebron is better!!

  • Anton Posted: Feb.3 at 5:41 pm
    I do.

  • [...] After Kobe Bryant collided with Bynum, loosing his balance on a baseline dribble drive, Bynum’s regular season appears to have ended prematurely for the second year in a row. He’s been diagnosed with a torn ligament in his right knee—the opposite knee that he injured last season—and is slated to miss eight to 12 weeks. [...]

Bynumite will be back ! (A Week Early I feel) He will play 8 or 9 reg season gms & hopefully the Lakers will still have the best record vs the Cavs by then ? Without Bynumite the Lakers are a still very good team! But with him (@ 100 percent) They are outstanding & will wipe the hardwood floors clean ! Mountain Drew makes them nearly impossible to defend as Pau-Gas is 1 of the best scoring PF’s in hoops. But when he has to play center, he lacks the size & strength to deal with a big front 4 team (Like the Celts or Cavs) Who would most likley out muscle the Lakers. BUT
(Home CT vs Celts /Cavs + The Kid Bynumite
    will = Kobe’s 4th Ring ! + 5th & 6th !
