Breaking: J.O to Miami, Marion to Toronto

by Marcel Mutoni

And just like that, All-Star weekend is off with a bang.

According to this ESPN report, Miami and Toronto have just traded the two guys whose names had been swirling in trade rumors all season:

The Toronto Raptors have agreed to send Jermaine O’Neal and Jamario Moon to the Miami Heat in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks, league sources told ESPN The Magazine’s Ric Bucher.

The deal is pending league approval, according to sources, and if approved, would be announced later Friday afternoon.

Neither guy was particularly long for their respective city, so this isn’t exactly a surprise.

In Toronto’s case, they get rid of O’Neal (whose tenure up north has been nothing short of disastrous), and Marion comes off the books this summer. O’Neal, if healthy, will be asked to provide the Heat with the inside presence they desperately need in their postseason push.

  • mike

wow not exciting or the least bit interesting

  • slamfan4life

this means Bulls might get Amar’e now

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Best news possible. Jermaine better ball though or he’s going to be short on minutes.

  • Dan Ilika

Oh, and I e-mailed you about this, like, 15-minutes ago Mutoni!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ riggs: Oh man you’re so stupid. A few games ago Jermaine O’Neal had 22 points and 9 blocks. Give it up my @ss.

  • http://web.mac.com/roaringred bbaby

A trade of two underacheivers. cosign riggs

  • Migil

WOW real suprised with the trade with moon to but the raptors are gonna get a push from the PG spot marcus banks and we’ll see the future of shawn marion …

  • Marcel Mutoni

you and ten other people, dan. but thanks.

  • riggs

and the game before and after he posted 6 and 7 points while his average is a less than decent 13 you shmuck :)

  • WhaHuh

Too late for the raptors, marion could have helped them to the playoffs a couple of months ago

  • Teddy-the-Bear

I wanted Jermaine O’Neal to stay in Toronto, he’s been playing really well lately. He was the tough, physical post presence that the Raptors needed. I guess it didn’t work out, since Bargnani started getting more playing time…
It was a joy to watch Jermaine O’Neal play when he was healthy this season, and best of luck to him in the future!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Praying Mantis better not complain now.

  • http://www.kicksonfire.com Anton

    “O’Neal, if healthy” … he won’t be.

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

About damn time lol … yall are getting slow on trade updates!!

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Has Shawn openly complained about his role on the Raptors yet?

  • riggs

“@ riggs: Oh man you’re so stupid. A few games ago Jermaine O’Neal had 22 points and 9 blocks. Give it up my @ss. ”

against kevin love and the al jefferson-less twolves…..give it up your ass? im sorry i do NOT swing that way.

  • http://docfunk.blogspot.com Doc Funk

so does this actually make either team better? sometimes i wonder if GMs make trades just to convince their fans they’re doing something. Like when I have 15 tabs open at work.

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

lol thats teddy for you … he is a f*ckin f@gg0t!!

  • tenorca

If I was a Heat fan, I’d be happier about Moon than J.O. Not a bad trade for either side but I can’t seem to get excited about any of these guys anymore.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ riggs: 22 points and 9 blocks = give it up?? I don’t give a f*ck who they were playing, those are not “give it up” numbers.
H0m0 jokes? What are you, 5? Hahaha you’re so f*cking stupid!

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

@DOC … I 100 percent agree on both. This is better for the raps on one side. But they lose interior D. And I also keep lots of windows up so my boss’ don’t see. In the end though both teams are the same and Teddy the bear gets a little more gay.

  • riggs

teddy the bear just assumed i was 5 years old….teddy. the. bear. let it sink in.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

LOL James the ret@rd is calling me names. That makes me laugh. Bahaha. The funny thing is, James isn’t like riggs. riggs is just plain dumb. James is actually mentally retarded.

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

Yes I am 5 … which means your sister is robbing the cradle while straddling me.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

It gives the Raptors some balance. Marion is a real 3 and can cover up for Bargs lack of rebounding desire/skills. Their starting unit is actually not too shabby right now : calderon, parker, marion, cb4, bargs. i’d just go all out and play small ball with graham, kapono and humphries off the bench. might as well go down swinging…
now for miami… i don’t know. Do they believe in Beasley at the 3? If not, then I don’t know. The kid obviously has flaws but he. gets. buckets. easy. I don’t like how his minutes are yanked around. dude was 9-10 fg yesterday, give him burn.

  • floe

they still need a two gaurd.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

This is fun. I guess “E-Beef” keeps James occupied, since he currently doesn’t have a job and I know Colleges don’t accept ret@rds. This is getting f*cking hilarious.

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

Teddy … i was going to say tell me how my a&& tastes. But … give it up my a$$ lol… that is priceless!!

  • Zoran

After they win couple of tough games, and O’Neal steps up big time, they trade him… dumb Raptors. Sucks being their fan.

  • Jackie Moon

DWade and O’Neal is usually a good combo.

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

    Teddy … I miss you.

@Z … agreed. Raps are better but still lack with no interior D behind Bosh.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

LMAO @ James. You’re such a ret@rd!!! I don’t how many times I have to say this, but you’re just f*cking stupid. Ahahahahaha seriously whatever you say just makes me laugh, I’m not even mad!
Same to riggs. I love messing with you two stooges.

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

@Zoran … do what everyone should do. Stop being a Rap fan, and come over to my Lakers. We will let you jump on the band wagon!!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

YOU ARE JUST FLAT OUT F*CKING DUMB. Hahaha!! Even on SLAMonline forums I can tell that you probably suck b@lls at everything you do! Get a job or go to school you loser. Hahahaha

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

Teddy … why you getting so mad … calm down my son. Go have a teddy bear picnic.

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

Teddy … here is what you wrote … notice the last few words “@ riggs: Oh man you’re so stupid. A few games ago Jermaine O’Neal had 22 points and 9 blocks. Give it up my @ss”

  • http://slamonline.com Tzvi T

Banks traded for Moon? Sounds poetic

  • Teddy-the-Bear

LMAO apparently you aren’t able to comprehend anything beyond the literal meaning. Maybe that’s why you failed grade school…

  • MeloMan13

for those of you who says JO is done, u obviously don’t watch basketball. this guy has been carrying the Raptors the last couple weeks and im glad that he’ll finally get some quality teamates to play with

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Dude I’m laughing so hard at you right now James. No lie, you’re stupidity ASTOUNDS me.
PS: Kobe hates w!gg3rs from British Columbia.

  • MeloMan13

and i’m pretty sure that Jamario is gonna get caught up in the south beach life style seeing as how he gets caught up up here. too bad, last year he was our prize possesion

  • http://aol chitown

Does this make bulls front runner for amare or what. I really hope so.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

There we go. Hopefully that shuts his stupid @ss up. Peace out, b!tch!

  • tone

Welcome to the Jamario moon era in south beach baby! i wanted amarie but hopefully JO and Jmoon can get us a nice playoff run this year!

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

@Melo … how many games has JO missed this year?? Or wait, how many games has he playeeddddd this year? Hard to carry a team when you only make half the games!! Because then Shaq would be carrying the suns … by which 5 games over .500 isn’t really carrying but more of a dragging motion. And the raps are 10 below .500 so maybe JO needs to hit the weight room a little more to carry heavier loads.

  • Lauri

Why would you be happy about moon he is 2 yrs younger than o’neal and is bad

  • floe

gotta love JO’s hustle. colangelo shoulda just traded bosh for amare and tried to sign marion as a free agent next year.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

your*** stupidity. Hahahaha ITS CONTAGIOUS. I’m going to leave before James the ret@rd starts making the people around him less intelligent.
    Peace!

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

I like the move, Marion will like playing with Jose Calderon for sure, and get lots of transition oppurtunities as well as rebounds. O’Neal gives the heat an inside complement to Wade who can block shots and opens up more minutes at the 3 for Beasley.

  • Jackie Moon

    @Teddy – Kobe loves everybody.

  • tenorca

And @ Doc Funk: Clap clap clap.

  • http://www.myspace.com/everybodylovesmush Mush

    lol E-Beef!

  • rav

    miami have just been shafted

  • Jackie Moon

    This E-Beef has E. Coli.

  • Jackie Moon

Let’s get back on track … when’s the last time someone got traded right after hitting (dunking) a game winning shot?

  • Jared Smith

JO’s stay in TO hasnt been disatruous

  • Funkdoc

I think Jamario Moon is going to be great in Miami. Don’t sleep on him. He can do the dirty work, catch alley-oops, get some rebounds,… Actually, isn’t that what Marion did? Moon should be able to drop 10 and 8 like the matrix. Plus they get JO! I say good deal for miami.

  • Sebastian B. O. Bunionstow, esq.

    Sadly, J.O. is over!

  • http://www.bbl.org.uk Josh D

Good trade both ways, Toronto get rid of a constantly injured player( aka a waste of money)and get a great player in the process, the Heat get the Centre they have needed all season and it will also free up the Beast to start and get some more PT
But there are two question which will be answered which will determine whether this will be seen as a good trade or not
1.Will Marion get tired of not being the man on
the team want to get traded again?
    2. Will JO always be injured again?
    This should be interesting

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Co-Sign Funkdoc.
Phew, good thing I shut James the f*ck up. You’re welcome, SLAM forum-goers!

  • Myung

Where making a game winning dunk gets you traded the next day… happens.

  • riggs

why dont you proceed in doing the same teddy “ima go now! (for the 11100th time”) bear

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    Jesus, is school off today?

  • Funkdoc

    JO-Haslem-Beasley-Moon/Cook-Wade

    Sounds nice

    Bargnani-Bosh-Marion-Parker-Calderon

    Sounds good too

Question is: will it have a big impact on one of the teams?

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Man, I thought riggs shut the f*ck up too. Ah well, he will soon though. I was verbally kicking his @ss all over this forum.
Riggs you dumb f*ck! Once you shut up I can leave!
    Hahahaha
PS: You can’t write worth sh!t, even on the internet. That last comment made no sense at all.
    Ahahaha I’m sonning this b!tch!
    You’re welcome again SLAMmers!

  • http://iwantoutofokc.com/ James the balla

Sonning? hmmmm .. again, I just am curious. Why did you ask riggs about going up your a&& again?

  • Shroomy

Great trade for the Raps. I’d take Marion over O’Neal any day and Moon showed flashes from time to time but usually sucked it up. Plus, having Marcus Banks as a back-up pg is a helluva lot better than that duster Solomon.

Bottom line: Toronto needs a lotta help for Bosh and Calderon and this is a move in the right direction.

  • dubya816

Idk about this. Somewhat good for both. oh well now my fantasy will continue to love Bargnani.

  • thesubwayconnection

Garbage. Marion won’t help. He and Jamario Moon are the same damn thing.

  • http://www.myspace.com/hemantsbeats what

The trade improves both teams, but the Raptors are still not making the playoffs, and the Heat still won’t get higher than the 5th seed.

  • http://nba.com tealish

Can you guys seriously stop with the trash talk? It’s not even intelligible stuff. Please, stop. It’s god awfully annoying.

  • http://www.nba.com JE

Awesome. I just traded LeMarcus Aldridge for the Matrix yesterday in my fantasy league. Talk about good fortune.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    Co-sign tealish. Thanks.

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

jo will be able to help the heat inside, and they need it desperately.

  • wilz

anyone who thinks moon and marion are the same player clearly dont know much about basketball or watch nearly enough.
that being said, the raptors feel much better knowing that they wont have to carry oneal around for the next 2 years with his giant salary and injury issues. but now they have no low-post presence once again…its gonna take time to rebuild this team

  • wilz

and the teddy comments? man, way to be a total loser

  • http://www.kayceonline.com/blog/ Kevin

what a fantastic trade for the Miami Heat.. i’m prob one of the few in Toronto that wanted JO to stay in TO, but i guess with him the injury concerns were just too much to deal with.. and you can’t put JO in a sentence without bringing up injury concerns. as for Toronto, great – we added one more player with no heart to our already WNBA squad of jumpshooting _ussies.. shoot me. actually.. we should jus tank it and get a draft pick out of it. then get rid of Bosh, please & thanks!

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

J.O can still play, however i do not think he can do it consistently. Mr.Moon Pie will do good at Miami. I think Marion is a medicore player and will put up slightly better numbers thanks to Jose. Who is the winner? Idk.

  • Sparker

jo wasn’t terrible by any means in toronto, but obviously he and bosh never gelled. moon was setting some kind of record for boneheaded defensive plays, and had run out friends. marion has alienated two teams now, and is heading to another one with a far bigger star in residence. marcus banks is traded every six months – or at least that’s what it feels like. to sum up? yeesh

  • http://www.kayceonline.com/blog/ Kevin

Marcus who?! someone thought he was going to help at the PG position in TO!? eff that, leave Roko his backup minutes..

  • http://wherethenbareallyhappens.blogspot.com Collin

O’Neal can definitely still play, he may be inconsistent, this was a great trade for miami.

  • http://www.kayceonline.com/blog/ Kevin

Eboy must be jumping up and down with joy right around now.. i still think the Celtics and the Cavs are stronger, but i’ll be rooting for the Heat to come out of the East now. honestly

this makes miami alot better. think about how big they just got. toronto is now really smaller.

It must be nice to know that whenever the Heat play on TV (like last night) or when they make a trade, we all turn to eboy for his thoughts. You are, in my book, the world’s most famous Heat fan, E.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Uhm….I think I’m one of the only ones that actually gives a sh*t if they win or lose, Myung. Down here…most of the fans just worry if they get on the Jumbotron during timeouts or catch a t-shirt from the Heat Fan Squad.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com nbk

Since when? When has a major fa ever signed in Toronto? You have no reason to think that, they want to add another player to make them a 3-man team but the best option for Toronto now that they will have extra money is to trade Bosh, for a future talent that they can sign to an extension. Unless Toronto shows some kind of massive imporement they have already lost bosh, so trading him is the only way to get a “higher end baller”.

it’s an ok trade for miami and a bad trade for toronto. ah well we’ll see if they both can resurect their respective careers. Marcus Banks can get used to the euro atmosphere cuz when his contract is over he’s off to europe. jamario moon will get what he got in toronto 15 to 25 minutes and a few nice highlights

damn b what you so mad about? They never have signed a big name free agent, but this is what, colangelo’s second year there? he’s getting them well under the cap, made his decision to keep calderon, bargnani isn’t gonna take up a max contract, it’s just logical that this team is going to make a push towards the big free agent class…no? that’s not feasible? they gonna sit on their money?

They are going to trade Bosh….when has a major fa ever signed in Toronto? What makes you think anyone would want to play there, ooooo money, guess what their are 5 teams in MAJOR markets that will have MORE money then Toronto. No matter what happens the best FA Toronto will be able to sign in 2010 is a second tier player. Its just the way of the L

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com nbk

Plus the Economy is biting dust, if you knew what was going on in the League you would realize that the “summer of LeBron” is the summer the salary cap will have gotten SMALLER. The league is not making as much money as it was, the economy is a snail…going backwards, and Toronto is not really a place to go if you want endorsements and big money off the court.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

E-meatstick is a word i will use from now on.

  • http://jaredmintzisthetruth.blogspot.com Jared

im not saying theyre gonna get bron or wade, but its a stacked class, they’re gonna sign someone. thats what teams with money do, they sign players. whatever, fine, toronto won’t sign anyone, they’ll end up giving large contracts to bums. if thats what you wanna hear/believe go for it, but they have a smart gm, and good money, and there will be a large talent pool, i’m just saying there’s good reason to be optimistic. it’s not like toronto’s freaking milwaukee or oklahoma.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

because nbk is really a expert on the economy…. IF you think teams going broke will not dump boat loads of money at Lebron as a gimick to get rich off him and all the other big name free agents, you need to think again. To get money, you must have something people want. People want Lebron, People want Wade. People want Bosh. People may/may not want Kobe. My point is that whatever a owner thinks will make him rich, he will sacrifice from his man purse.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com nbk

Its Toronto – in a different country, and just because so many contracts are set to expire does not mean those players are not just going to sign with their current team. Under the CBA it gives teams a huge advantage in resigning players, they can offer the most money and the most years, there will NOT be that many FA’s in 2010. THe ones that will be available surely will not want to go to toronto. Teams with cap more likely then toronto to get a good FA

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com nbk

Yeah BET your 100% right, but taht Owner has to have something desirable to those marquee players, a big market and championship aspirations, Toronto has NEITHER.

I don’t know. I feel that this is a very good trade for Toronto. It gives them the 3 they never had (They started Moon, Kapono and Graham THIS YEAR) It enables Bargs to do his thing w/o looking over his shoulder. Athletes are much more productive when they know how they’ll be used night in and night out. I can see Marion and Graham playing some minutes at the 4 spot, AP backing up at the 1, Kapono as the designated shooter, Humphries as the goon. 8-man rotation, PHX style circa 2005. It won’t win you a title but that was never really a possibility for this Toronto team so why not have some fun AND win more games?

  • MeloMan13

@ TADONE: my name should be a gud hint as who i support…althogh i love m hometown Raptors

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ TAD: I’m a Knicks fan, not a Celtics fan lol. Good try though, I guess.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

My two other favorite teams after are the Raptors and the Rockets.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com DP

this tickles me. when JO is healthy he will be useful for the heat but besides the fact that he is NEVER healthy, I don’t see how he can help the heat expect by giving them somewhat of a defensive presence. Marion, on the one hand, looked like he didn’t belong in miami weather from the first game he played there. He just looked out of junk without Nash to throw him an alley every other fastbreak. Now he has the chance to run again with one of the most consistent point guards in the nba, cally-dro. Raptors will benefit the most from this. play wit it.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Moose is a C’s fan. So is Bostonballer. Haven’t seen them lately.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

I had fun today making James the ret@rd cry. And apparently he sucks at reading, too. So does riggs. Glad you agree, wilz.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Brian Collangelo is a horrible GM.
Also, in my opinion the best coaching, front office and management has to be the Spurs.

  • http://jaredmintzisthetruth.blogspot.com Jared

how is collangelo a horrible gm? \

  • Teddy-the-Bear

For the Raptors? I’ll give you a few reasons:
He drafted Andrea Bargnani (he’s okay, though) over BRANDON ROY.
He signed Primo Brezec to the Raptors last year.
He won’t get rid of Jason Kapono.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Okay, maybe horrible was too strong a word choice. Collangelo is not doing a good job so far.

  • http://jaredmintzisthetruth.blogspot.com Jared

yea i didnt love the bargnani pick, and kapono’s a decent ball player, he hasn’t been as good in tdot as he was in phoenix but i think he’s a good mind. he did put together 7 seconds or less

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com nbk

How does Colangelo merit a great player anyway? The best thing Colangelo ever did was draft Amar’e, sign Steve Nash, and Sign Mike D’Antoni but those were the ONLY things he did right. He gave away draft picks for example – Rudy Fernandez could have been on the Suns, Rajon Rondo was drafted by the Suns and then Colangelo gave him away for Cash. There is more but those are glaring problems Colangelo created that are HAUNTING the suns today. He is overrated as a GM like Shawn Marion as a player.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com nbk

Scratch that my bad D’Antoni was the GM back then, thats totally my bad. (talking about Rudy and Rajon) my fault everyone who reads that last comment

  • http://jaredmintzisthetruth.blogspot.com Jared

you a big jamario moon fan?

  • Diogo

    Jamario Moon has some qualities.

  • Bishop1405

I’m sorry but that discourse between Teddy, Riggs and James was very funny to me “Give it up my @ss” LOL!!!!

    i like this cooments section.

  • http://jaredmintzisthetruth.blogspot.com Jared

if youre a raptors fan you have to be optimistic here. They werent going anywhere with jermaine o’neal and theyre more than one big player away from being able to legitimately compete with the celtics and the cavs. you can hate your management, coaching, team, but trading o’neal and getting back marion is a step in the right direction. either be optimistic or what’s the point of caring about a team?

  • http://jaredmintzisthetruth.blogspot.com Jared

and i dont mean you got shawn marion he’s a huge asset, you got his contract, which is a huge asset regardless of who you get in return for it. Yea if its used to re-up the bums you have in the first place then you should be upset and hopeless but theres a huge free agent class coming up and you will be well under the cap. economic problems or not, theyre still a professional sports franchise who are in it to win, have some f*cking hope.

  • witness

@ jared. you know thay did this to free cap now. sign bargnani to extension and can possibly sign an underacheiving all star on the decline of their career. sounds like they would want to resign marion, right? how is that headed in the right direction?

  • niQ

and so it is done. i’m going to miss JO. his defense was what the raps needed. i just hope having marion will improve the raptors now.

  • Keith

Ha ha! Shawn Marion goes from conference finals team, to team that doesn’t get in the playoffs (but will do this year), to a team which won’t reach the playoffs this year. Karma is a biatch.

I just hope the same happens to Amar’e. Don’t like the guys attitude at all.

  • witness

they cant sign any one in 2010 other than bosh because jose calderon gets paid, kapono gets paid, anthony parker gets paid and bargnani will be extended.

  • witness

so the heat traded shaq fo jermaine and jamario moon? and the raptors traded tj ford, rasho nesterovic, baston, and roy hibbert for marion and banks? sounds like both got screwed.

the nba: where no sense will be made happens.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Teddy, thanks for putting me up on the Celtics board in this conversation. You too, Mr. Terhune. Anyways, I think that this was good for the Heat. As everyone probably agrees. The Heat get a center (finally!) that is less expensive than their underperforming swingman that has been a slight cancer, and the Raps get . . . well, just that. But with Bosh, Marion will have free reign. But Bosh will still be top dog. I’m going to stop talking now before I say something stupid.

  • Orlando Green

Great for Toronto. The Matrix will help get Nash North of the boarder.

  • witness

but the heat obviously got the better of the deal.

  • http://jaredmintzisthetruth.blogspot.com Jared

why would they resign marion? they traded for him for his contract…witness what are you talking about? they’re going to free cap space.

  • Jess

I agree Jared…cap space is the only thing that makes sense with this trade….I thought we dodged this bullet though, I dont like it at all and dont think it will help…I think we gave up too much including Jamario in this trade…I hope I end up eating my words though…

  • AlbertBarr

Myung…you always seem to be seeking for Kings fans…it’s dark days in Nor Cal but I have hope…maybe if we move to Vegas we won’t have problems attracting big name players…Sac town loves them some Kings though…

  • Myung

Albert, it’s because a few months ago, there was a post ripping the Kings… and I don’t remember one person being offended by it. I remember asking where the Kings fans were… and no one spoke up. I’d love for every team in the League to have at least one hardcore fan on SLAMonline… that’d be very cool.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

People should mention that Shawn Marion usually is only good when he has a good point guard.
    NOW HE HAS JOSE CALDERON.
Which, if I may say so myself, is an improvement over Mario Chalmers…
Those two are going to get along just fine.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

TAD: i gotta say congrats on being an insightful commenter. Knowing which main teams we support, good on ya. Yep, i’m a Mavs fan first, then i love me some Flash and Ray Ray. The team 30% (at least) of commenters love can bite me.

He posted 22 and 9blks against the Lakers, actually.

Learn to read to stat sheet, or just open a damn book sometime.

  • L33tSauce08

For those saying this was no big deal you gotta be kidding. Miami is 28-24 already with no talent at center at all on top of the fact Marion was not a good fit for the team. Moon is a solid player and J.O. has been tough lately. 13.5 points and 7 boards in just under 30 minutes a game is better than Anthony and Magloires cmbined 31 minutes a game producing a total of 5 points and 7 boards. Not to mention O’Neal thrives in an offense like Miami’s and the fact he’s a huge upgrade on the defensive end.

  • L33tSauce08

And why is everyone hating on Chalmers? Give the kid a break. With maturity he’ll be a very good PG.

  • halkias

I guess the one who likes it the most is Beasley coz he will play ore mnts…R.O.Y.?

I hope the Heat organization is busy reinforcing the back of the rims on there nets, because JO’s jumper will be beating them up pretty bad.

  • Flash

good trade for miami! it frees up the beast!

  • Krishan

    NEWSFLASH: Calderon=\=Nash, Toronto=\=Phoenix
CONCLUSION: Marion will still suck. Miami got the better of this, because when healthy JO is a beast, and Marion is consistently…marginal. And I’d take moon over banks anyday.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

    “Newsflash”?

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Honestly, not a bad trade for both teams. Addresses what was lacking – rebounding for the Raps, a true pivot for the Heat. Very good pickup for the Heat ‘cuz JO was better than his stats suggest, and he was a good citizen in his too-short stint here with the Raps. Marion… we really will have to wait and see about him. But if he can average a double-double I say the Raps do what they can to keep him, and keep him on the floor as much as possible, whatever position.

  • MalevolentKing7242

another oneal in miami!!!!!! Marion is really going to help toronto

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Also, Calderon =/= Nash, but Nash =/= Calderon either. Nash is pure brilliance when he gets a chance to let loose and run a team. Calderon simply doesn’t make mistakes. Go ahead and compare them if you’d like; outside of skin colour, they share nothing in terms of playing style, temperament, strengths and weaknesses.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

    *whatever the position*.

  • SK

This trade could work out for our Raptors. The season hasn’t so far, but it’s not JO’s fault. He put it on himself and didn’t complain publicly. He’ll have a fresh start in Miami with them heading to the playoffs.
Marion could be a nice fit with this team, maybe even next year. Hopefully Marcus Banks won’t just be an unwanted contract in the next couple years. The raps should just stick with getting Roko Ukic some playing time and see him develop a bit.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

For the record, I’m with Russ and the Bulls.

  • CHE

I think both teams got the short end of the stick if that is even possible..

O’neal has problems with staying healthy so Miami is really taking a risk,

Toronto better hope Marion stays long enough to make a difference. But I think he will make more of a contribution than O’neal will.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com.dacre Dacre

Talking about JO getting healthy though…its a wonder that he doesn’t go to PHX and get some of the best sports medicine in the world on offer… they turned O’neal around 360 degrees….. DOING CHIN UPS ON THE HOOP DAMN IT!!

  • http://slam Dark Knight

Ughhh, another worst kept secret in the NBA is finalized. whoopie! :(

  • L33tSauce08

No Dacre, Shaq is just a big baby who only plays when he feels like it. Marion benefited more from D’Antoni than Steve Nash. His game was in the fast break, not by having a good point (Not saying Nash isn’t a beast). Nash himself played best under D’Antoni. Watch the Knicks during the 2010-2011 season when D’Antoni has possibly an even better team then he ever had in PHX.
