Doc Rivers Unhappy With the Refs

Color me shocked: “Doc Rivers certainly wasn’t happy with the refs after the non-call on Celtics [team stats] guard Ray Allen’s last shot as time expired during overtime of the Lakers’ 110-109 victory last night at TD Banknorth Garden. But the Celtics coach was voicing displeasure well before that. ‘I thought in the third and fourth quarter the game got out of control,’ Rivers said. ‘And I thought the officials allowed it to get out of control. I just thought there was a lot of chippiness. It was funny. Thirty seconds into the second half, I yelled out on the floor and said, ‘Guys, there’s elbows. Clean it up.’ I thought we’re the retaliators tonight a lot and we got the call obviously.’”

lamest excuse, suck it up Mr Rivers

  • Ken Posted: Feb.6 at 9:04 am
The final call was fine. It was the 6th foul on Garnett that I thought was questionable, and decided the game.

  • James the balla Posted: Feb.6 at 9:12 am
OMG… he always has an excuse. I am justwiatingfor the ” It’sbecause I am black” excuse!!”

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.6 at 9:20 am
    James…..stop, please…..

  • riggs Posted: Feb.6 at 9:26 am
let him continue eboy, we’ve always wanted a court jester

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.6 at 9:29 am
Bad calls on both sides, but Fisher did grab and push Ray at the end.

  • Ken Posted: Feb.6 at 9:53 am
At least James’ comment was slightly more insightful than his usual “Firsteeez!!!” In an added bonus, this time he also realized that he wasn’t first, though that can be funny too.

  • BostonBaller Posted: Feb.6 at 10:07 am
@ 1st. lol I don’t think Doc making excuses as much as stating the obvious. He said he yelled {to the refs} to clean it up out there in the 3rd qtr. When refs allow games to get too “chippy” they tend to freeze up on their judgement b/c they are also on edge. @James: Doc usually claims that the team didn’t execute on O or turned the ball over too much and rarely blames it on the refs. He will say when he thought thinks the refs were horrible.

I agree with Doc…and that 6th foul on KG…wow that was terrible. Ray was fouled before the shot, not necessarily on the release. good game, bad outcome, but good game.

  • BostonBaller Posted: Feb.6 at 10:10 am
There were some bad calls against the Lakers also. Yes the ref who was standing right there should have called the foul on Gasol before KG pushed Fisher for his 6th but KG needs to chill with the extra arm movement. That was a huge factor. Yes Fisher was “hacking” (old school term lol) Ray and pushed him a bit on the last shot (hence the off balenced shot) but at that point the refs were probably too jumpy to know when to blow the whistle. lol

I tend to agree with Doctor Rivers on this one, though I hate excuses.

  • kobe24ever8 Posted: Feb.6 at 10:37 am
Doc Rivers complains about everything anyway. He was working the refs the whole game. Id hate to think what he whines about at home to his wife.

  • niQ Posted: Feb.6 at 10:48 am
what happened to calls being monitored by instant replays? i still see a lot of garbage calls and missed calls that could be justitified with the instant replays.

  • BostonBaller Posted: Feb.6 at 11:30 am
What coach doesn’t complain constantly? I’m just happy that the Cavs coach has started opening his mouth during games even though he should keep it closed during post game interviews. lol

  • Darksaber Posted: Feb.6 at 11:45 am
Boo freaking hoo. How about monitoring KG’s minutes and fouls better (not like he just came back from the flu and seemed winded at times). Wasnt there a second pf giving the lakers fits when he played? Oh yeah, Leon. One more thing: paul pierce was super tentative going against Kobs, he tries to torch Bron every time and cant dribble to save his life against Mambiatch? Wtf?

“Doc Rivers Unhappy With the Refs” : Of course he is.

  • mdshuai33 Posted: Feb.6 at 1:51 pm
I think I’ll agree with the Mailman on this one: let the players decide the game. Ray got fouled before the shot, but he got a pretty clean look at the basket; if he had just tried to hit the shot instead of getting a foul called for him it probably would’ve gone in.

  • Jackie Moon Posted: Feb.6 at 2:31 pm
Bob Ryan is upset, too : http://tinyurl.com/bobryan

  • samIam Posted: Feb.6 at 9:03 pm
Doc Rivers wasn’t as pssted at the refs as I was! The refs suckeddddd!!!! The CELTICS are betta playas than those damn lakers!!!!

  • ANJOE Posted: Feb.6 at 9:19 pm
last time its hipocracy. THEN this time its the REFS. WHATS YOUR NEXT fckin EXCUSE!? RIVERS SUCKS!! i think kobe’s ryt. no FOUL

  • BostonBaller Posted: Feb.6 at 9:32 pm
    blah blah

  • BostonBaller Posted: Feb.6 at 9:36 pm
Anjoe, are you watching the C’s vs the Knicks? Refs are human too and they have ears and they can read…henceforth the lesson they are teaching Boston tonight. lol. A hand in the face is a foul but a smack on the arm isn’t. hahahaha

  • Hursty Posted: Feb.7 at 7:30 pm
    James- not funny.

  • Redmo Posted: Feb.7 at 11:41 pm
Some people dont kno basketball. And some people are just lakers fans. If you watch both games, there were a lot of bad calls by the refs. I hate to say it, the refs seems to hav some grudge against the Celtic after that 40 point victory over the Lakers. Don’t trip Paul, KG, Ray and Doc, this is just the regular season. Playoffs will be different.

  • KoBynum716 Posted: Feb.8 at 5:31 am
doc rivers should look back to game 2 of the finals, then bitch about refs. he’s just a bad coach with 3 allstars making up for it. he’s a loser.

  • Jorge Posted: Feb.11 at 4:17 am
I am agree with Rivers. Lakers is Stern´s favorite team. Gasol hit twice on Garnett´s hands. We all saw on the replay. That and the last shot of Allen were the fact of that unjustly victory
