Hughes Traded To Knicks

The Bulls allegedly have traded Larry Hughes to the Knicks for Tim Thomas, Jerome James and Anthony Roberson. Ironically, the Bulls banished Thomas in 2006 for poor practice habits, which is one of the reasons the Bulls wanted to lose Hughes. James’ career is over due to a ruptured achilles.

Tim Thomas, Are you serious? Are they actually going to play these player’s?

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

Tim Thomas… Al Harrington light? Thomas didn’t play at all during his first stint as a Bull, so he won’t be happy. Roberson? Throw-in. Jerome James? Throw out!

  • Candice

I don’t know what to say about this. I really don’t.

Tim Thomas… Al Harrington light? Thomas didn’t play at all during his first stint as a Bull, so he won’t be happy. Roberson? Throw-in. Jerome James? Throw out! Sorry Jerome.

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

    whoop, sorry.

  • Candice

What kind of player is Roberson?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Ain’t no letdown like a trading deadline-day letdown ’cause a deadline day letdown don’t stop.

  • tenorca

Does Larry Hughes get traded every year? It certainly feels that way. He’s like a fungus getting passed around the NBA.

  • http://sportcetera.blogspot.com/ LeoneL

    so long jerome…

  • Candice

@Russ, what do you make of this trade? To get a player that you banned from the team 3 years ago and to bring him back doesn’t make sense. I assumed Jerome will be let go, and what kind of player is Roberson?
I really don’t know how to feel. I really fon’t know what else could have been done since Amre was taken off the table but this is just senseless. I guess they wanted to get rid of Larry by any means neccessary. Too bad we couldn’t get an effort guy like Lee.

  • riggs

chris wilcox coming to NY too for malik rose

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

Now that the Bulls have Brad Miller and Tim Thomas, will they go after Ron Mercer and Ron Artest too? Jeesh!

  • http://www.ravingblacklunatic.blogspot.com Allenp

    Paxson must be bored.

  • http://www.bbl.org.uk Josh D

Thats a relief for the bulls, if they’d kept him they’d have a backcourt group of Larry Hughes,Kirk Hinrich,Ben Gordon,Derrick Rose, and John Salmons, however, they’ve got 4 all star ballot worthy guards in their team

  • http://nyer.sosblog.com Be A Real Fan

I feel compelled to offer John Paxson and his family 9though belated) a warm and happy new year. Thank you! Jerome James, Roberson and Tim Thomas? Wow. Thanks. May the Lord (Isiah) continue to shine upon you

  • http://nyer.sosblog.com Be A Real Fan

Candice: Roberson is the kind of player that doesn’t get off the bench for the guard-less Knicks. He’s the kind of guard that gets no burn even when the Knicks go 7 players deep. If you’re reading this, Sorry Roby! I’m saying…but its true.

  • http://myspace.com/originadro Witness

wtf? did the bulls do this to replace the players they just let walk?

  • http://myspace.com/originadro Witness

so they trade gooden, nocioni, ruffin, cedric simmons, and hughes for brad miller, salmons, jerome james, tim thomas and anthony roberson? they have an entire new team now.

  • http://www.ojhoops.blogspot.com the baconator

That’s great, a career 41% shooter in a run-n-gun offense. Hughes might as well just hand the other team the ball everytime he catches it

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Tim Thomas got banned for selling weed to the rest of the Bulls

  • Coffeebean

The Bulls are lining themselves up nicely for 2010 summer. Too bad it will be Paxson in the Benny the Bull costume at O’hare airport to meet Kobe and Wade ’cause as a GM he’s Shyte!

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

The Bulls traded away a bunch of players they didn’t want to give minutes for some new guys who they CAN’T give minutes to.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

John Paxson is a worse GM than Isiah Thomas. Easily. Today is a horrible day.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

The Knicks are now far and away the tattooiest team in the L, though.

  • KozmicKid505

what a day… how can you sleep at night pax?

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Larry has been getting passed around like slobbered-up shwag J, it still burns but aint nobody want to hit it.

  • slamfan4life

damn larry to NY?….Atleast chi got rid of his ass

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

John Paxson should be impeached like Blagojevich. And I have no idea what he expects Vinny to do with this mess. He was already the most overmatched coach in the League as it is. Somewhere Jerry Krause is laughing. And eating donuts.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Welllll these aren’t the same Knicks of yesteryear. D’Antoni made Tim Thomas look like a playoff force when he coached him with the Suns, remember those killer shots he hit against the Lakers in 05 or so?

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Although if they were smart, the Sun-Times or Trib would go with a huge “BULLS ACQUIRE JAMES” headline on the back page tomorrow. It would be good for a laugh, at least.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

And yet Tim Thomas somehow didn’t get that much burn this year as a Knick…

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Tim Thomas is an out of shape scrub.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Tim Thomas actually wasn’t that bad when he played this year. He shoots too many threes, but he’s a decent post player (sometimes you forget he’s 6-10) and a servicable defender when he wants to be. He immediately becomes the Bulls best low-post threat, which is incredibly embarassing. I’m guessing that James and Roberson get waived. The LAST thing the Bulls need is another undersized guard.

  • Stargazey

    Damn it.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Basically, Thomas would be something of an asset on a good team, which doesn’t mean much for the dead and stinking Bulls.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Thomas could be an asset to a good team if good teams wanted anything to do with him.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

I’m trying to think positive and not doing a very good job of it.

  • http://www.remembertheaba.com Brett Ballantini

Somewhere, Corey Benjamin and Cory Carr just bought bus tickets to the Windy for the 10-year reunion. Too bad Circuit City can’t re-hire Ron-Ron.

  • http://www.remembertheaba.com Brett Ballantini

Word I’m getting is Vinny is heavily sold on Thomas based on playing with him in Milwaukee and whatever relationship they had in Phoenix. That lifelong Bulls fans like me and Russ are cornered into making comments about a Tim Thomas acquisition speaks to just how quickly hopes fell down from Mt. Amare.

  • j-smoov 5

Dude, Larry Hughes will run it in New York.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

I’d feel better about what Vinny was saying if he wasn’t the worst Bulls coach ever. Bring back Tim Floyd!

  • kingofsota

brett- u r right, no chance at amare because of the brad miller and tim thomas aquisitions, i have to say that they screwed themselves by trading younger guys for older worn down players.

  • http://blogs.myspace.com/theoriginadro Witness

so tim thomas has already rejoined two teams that hated him?

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Hughes shoots too much and misses too much. I don’t like this deal. He’s going to take shots away from Lee, Nate, Chandler, and Harrington; the four best players. He better not play too many minutes and much worse, he better not start.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

That being said, I know Hughes is going to start.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Co-sign ciolkstar: Tim Thomas is the reason why the Lakers lost against Phoenix after leading 3-1, WITH Raja Bell suspended. He was mad clutch.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Woops, I meant Co-Sign Russ.

  • http://www.ojhoops.blogspot.com the baconator

@Russ: Ya know, you do have a point there. Every time Thomas would touch the ball, I would start yelling at the tv cuz I really don’t like him (like you said, he shoots way too many threes). But he is 6-10 and has the potential to be a decent player if he stops pretending to be Al Harrington and get his @ss down on the block where he belongs

  • Ka

Tim Thomas is definitely one of those players on my “All-Underachieving” Team; I thought he had the skills and the athleticism coming into the league to be an all-star. Joining him on the squad, I’d have Tinsley at the 1, Vince (what if he had Kobe’s drive?!?) at the 2, LO sharing the other forward spot, and Sheed at the 5. Although Lamar has more than pulled his weight in the past few weeks.

  • Ka

Even if Hughes doesn’t excel in the run-n-gun offense, the Knicks barely gave up anything to get him,. They have enough skilled forwards to cover for Tim Thomas’ production (Chandler, Harrington, Lee, Gallinari). Though Thomas was a decent defender, like D’Antoni would care anyway.

  • http://triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

This is what you do when you want to make ALOT of noise, like splashing water around in the bath tub as a kid (to make it “sound” like your washing…) – Just THROWING pieces around like this means two things:
1 The team now has no identity or cohesion, look to Rose to just stuffing the stat sheet!
2 BIG DRAFT DAY next year for this team….good luck Russ.

  • http://triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

This is the quintessential example of “back to the drawing board” – the real shame is that the Bulls of the modern era haven’t spent much time away from their ‘rebuilding’ phase and this could begin to wear thin on fans (if it hasn’t already hey Russ) ???

  • I am the walrus

Poor Jerome James. He was a solid player on some of those Seattle teams in the Ray Allen/Rashard Lewis days. He singed a large contract with the Knicks because the y promised him plaing time, but it never happened. Now he has been injued and is not coming back this season, or in the future. So stop hatin’ on Jerome James, it’s so annoying!!!
