Jamal Crawford’s Agent Isn’t Enjoying the Don Nelson Experience

by Marcel Mutoni

The Golden State Warriors aren’t going anywhere fast this season, so head coach Don Nelson is going to give the youngsters a chance to shine by cutting some of the vets’ minutes.

Said vets include newly-acquired Jamal Crawford, who will sit out tonight’s ballgame against Charlotte, and his agent is not handling the shift in his client’s playing time well. From the Mercury News:

“Jamal wants to play,” Goodwin said. “That’s what he came here for. If the coach doesn’t want to play him, he should have a valid reason why he doesn’t want to play him.”

“What is the message that Coach Nelson is sending the team? That he does not care about winning?” Goodwin said. “You would think, in this day and time, when fans work hard to pay for these tickets, that the coach would field the best possible team. Jamal may not score 50 points on the Bobcats again, but he would work hard to get a win and reward the fans for their loyalty to this team in this hard time…”As an agent and a longtime fan of the Warriors, I totally disagree with this.”

For what it’s worth, Crawford says he will not question his coach’s decisions. That’s his agent’s job.

Nellie needs to go to Hawaii…and stay there.

  • matt the jazz fan

    great last line, as usual…

  • riggs

he wants the rooks and non-PT’ers to play, whats so wrong about that?

  • J

Well the GSW fans aren’t enjoying the Jamal Crawford experience. So, maybe he won’t exercise his option and maybe he’ll do us all a favor and move on.
Get his herpes ridden lip and lack of bball IQ self on out of here.

Wow he has a great cross, then what does he do 9/10 times? Pulls up for a J. Great.

Doesn’t this team have enough jumper shooters?

Not that any Don Nelson team will ever be known for defense, but at least most of them TRY. Marco is hardly a great defender, but his intensity and aggressiveness can hide a lot of his flaws. Maybe JC should try that?

good luck jamal : nellie likes the word , buyout .

  • Blinguo

Marco made Danny Granger loco when he was on offense v. Granger guarding: clearing out his own space with a vertical/back towards his body motion of the arm. Sets people up, has rhythm jumpers. Crawford plays crab dribble defense, and doesn’t go for the steal and disrupt much – a key cog in the Don Nelson small man lineup. Get steals or hit the bench for letting people get dunked on too easily. Its not business time, agent (who prefaced his thoughts “as an agent & and …” as if that wasn’t a given) with future contract incentives to play up for. Its Morrow/Randolph learnin’ time. Playing time overblown by media and agents and continuance = Harrington ship out. And NYC already took him for Crawford.

“You can do that?!” exclaimed Marcus Williams’ agent.

Why do agents think their opinions/statements on their clients pt matter. The coach will play who he wants to, so sit back and collect your commision and shut the hell up!!!!!

  • doyouwantmore

Nellie is the Allen Iverson of coaches.

  • Cizzo

    Hmmmmm!!!

  • kingofsota

the warriors have too many guards and their big free agent acquisition ronny turiaf is doing nothing… they should’ve gotten Randolph from the knicks instead of Crawford

  • master2

i think that turiaf is playing very well even better than last year.
Also I always assumed that the Warriors big free agent acquisition was a certain…

Note to Agent: Tell Crawford to pass and not come down and gun like he does all time. He did it on the Bulls too …. Tell him there is a column for assist!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Mutoni is always on point with the one liners.

  • a_whiteman

@ mavus…crawford averages 5 assists a game, which I believe is 2nd on the team.

  • Bro D.

Dear Don Nelson, thank you for not playing Jamal Crawford.
    Signed, Charlotte Bobcats.

whats with these warrior fans hating on jamal? i watch nearly all the games, and i dont see him playing poorly. plus he got traded into the season — let him get used to the style of defense and system (if you can call the warriors offense a system)

  • KozmicKid

Jamal should have been traded along with Zach Randolph for Kirk Heinrich and Nuch I mean Al Harrington is a good attacker but the Knicks need some solid Defense and the Bulls need some cap space and give D-Rose the benifit of havin two back up gaurds in Jamal Crawford and Larry Hughes. The space gives the Bulls the capability of negotiating a solid contract with Ben Gordan. You don’t have that too many gaurds. Jamal gets his playing time. Everybody happy. You wanna hear the funny story? The same sh*t happened when I was playin my dynasty the other day, which was the same day that Jamal and Zach got traded. I still got chills of the memory. It was Zen Master like LOL.

i honestly dont get these marco/jamal comparisons. you guys cant be serious.

Of course it matters, if your an agent and your player isnt getting any court time, he isnt getting big stats…and if he isnt get big stats…he dont look so good…and if he dont look so good he dont get PAID…and if HE dont get paid…neither does the agent.
    ^_^
    work it out.

JAMAL CRAWFORD IS GOOD 1 OUT OF 10 GAMES… OK OK I WILL BE NICE MAYBE 2 OF 10 GAMES.. MY POINT IS HE’S VERY INCONSISTENT! I LIVE IN THE BAY AREA AND I WATCH ALMOST ALL OF THE GAMES AND NOTICED JAMAL CRAWFORD TAKES BAD SHOTS 80 PERCENT OF THE TIME. HE SHOOTS A VERY DEEP THREE OR SHOOTS AN EARLY JUMPSHOT WITH 20 SECONDS LEFT ON THE CLOCK.. MY POINT IS HE HAS GREAT SKILLS BUT HE MAKES POOR DECISIONS. DOES HE EVER HEARD PASS THE BALL AND CREATE PLAY LIKE HOW BARON DAVIS USE TO DO… CRAWFORD HAS GREAT BBALL SKILLS MAYBE EVEN GREATER THAN BDAVIS BUT HIS LOW BBALL IQ HIS BAD DECISION MAKING TAKES ALL THOSE SKILLS AWAY…. HE NEVER USES HIS DRIBBLING SKILLS TO CREATE PLAYS OR MAKE HIS TEAMMATES BETTER! HE PLAYS LIKE A.I. BUT A.I. GOT BETTER JUMPERS!

Jamal was playing so great with the Knicks. You just hated to see him get thrown into this environment knowing what could end up happening to him. Yep, it did. Shame.
