Judgement Day

Who’s leading the race to greatness?

Greg Oden

Kevin DurantPhotos by Scott Council

Heading into the 2007 NBA Draft Lottery, some said it would an ideal situation for a franchise to land the second pick, rather than the first, since the decision of whether to take Greg Oden or Kevin Durant would be made by the team selecting before them. Both guys were happy to buy into the storyline, playfully advertising their worth as top pick. Only time will tell how the two compare, but both the Blazers and Sonics, err, I mean Thunder, should be pleased with the outcome of that night. — Adam Fleischer

    Portland Draft FAIL

Kevin Durant is the next Micheal Jordan. I’ve never said that about anyone. Not VC, not Kobe, not Grant Hill, not no one. KD is it.

Big men take time, especially when they are injured their first season. Give Oden two more years and he will dominate the paint.

Ryne: I like the diplomacy in that blurb, but time has told already. Not that Oden’s bad, but Durant is spectacular. Is it even up for debate anymore?

its not even a race, if it were, Durant would run and Oden would hobble his way on crutches.

Durant even writes more assertive than Oden. ALL CAPS.

Oden could end up being a nice defensive bigman, and Portland has a great assemblege of yountg talent. So if they win a chip with Oden as their big, one could call their decision the right one. But all that assumes he can actually stay healthy, stop fouling so much, and develop an offensive game. Seems like a lot of “ifs”, compared to the supernova that Durant has already become.

man, durant is way better than i thought he would be at this point. hard to argue against him. i still think it is premature to make a call, but i don’t blame anyone who does. oden will get there. i hope.

I would take Durant over Oden any day

Yeah I pick Durant. Go ahead, rip me a new one.

durant look’s like he is oden’s son.

  • KozmicKid505

My pick goes to Durant. Oden is a max reach to Zo I don’t wanna hate on the guy it’s just!!!! MAN STOP BEIN SO FRAGILE WHEN YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE BIG MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KD the first if probably only G-E-I-K-O champion. So, I’m guessin it’s pretty much KD for the next …. let’s say 5 years min!

  • Rob

    I pick kevin!

  • http://itsadcthing.blogspot.com Squad

Sure, KD is the obvious choice now. But before the draft when dude couldn’t put up a single rep of 185 lbs no one was trashing the Oden pick…

  • KozmicKid505

Agreed Squad. But if this L has anything to stand for it’s that this right here is a new ball game! That’s why sometimes your overall 35th draft pick ends up rackin better numbers than your 7th. Correct me if I’m wrong but ain’t agent ZERO and Mr. Eva Longoria picks that exceeded the 20′s ?

This picture with Oden, with the white paper in his hand, is a good fundation for further photoshop use.

Give Oden a year and he’ll be better.

I dont see Oden catching Durant. Not to say he wont be good WHEN HEALTHY, but he already missed so much time while Durant has lit things up in his absences. In the court of public opinion, Durant is a star all the time and Oden is a star WHEN HEALTHY. Too bad the WHEN HEALTHY part is a rare rare thing.

Wilz, I was gonna say the exact same damn thing. I still remember hearing Charles talk about what a bust Kevin Durant was gonna be, and how Horford, there was someone special.. and EVERY SINGLE DAMN PERSON ON THIS WEBSITE seemed to agree.
    Now what SLAM
    Now what!

Jukai, I remember he said KD was burst too, but I was thought Charles was going to kiss another ass… But, I didn’t agree on Charles. Charles was always wrong and he is too much of a narrow minded person. I remember Charles had made some bad comments on Yao when he just started in NBA too, and it turned out that Charles had to kiss an ass because he was wrong. LOL… IMO, KD is way ahead of Oden because of the extra time that he’s able to play than Oden… Portland actually could be way better than what they are right now if they had picked KD…

i tried to tell everyone that durant would be in the top 5 in the league and soon enough be in the conversation with lebron and kobe. roy and durant would have owned the next dozen years.
