L.O.N. — Come Get Mo Than A Shuttle’s Worth Of Vinsanity

And like it.

by Shannon Booher

A most quiet triple-double.Line Of The Night AKA Triple-Double Of The Night:

Vince Carter — 15 points, 12 assists, 10 boards

All those in favor of Vinsanity replacing Jameer Nelson on the All-Star team say aye. Why so quiet, Boston? Akrobatik? Benzino? Krumb Snatcha? Anyone?

Worst Of The Night:

San Antonio vs. Denver

NBA Fan Night, huh? You think when the fans voted to see this game they planned on Coach Pop benching not only All-Star Tony Parker… not only All-Star Tim Duncan… not only possible All-Star injury replacement Manu Ginobili… but also Michael Finley? The fans love Jacque Vaughn. At least they got to see the Birdman fly in any weather. It was his world in the first quarter.

Near Beast Of The Night:

Luis Scola — 18 boards, 13 points, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 block

We didn’t see the game, but this Chi-Town/Houston matchup must have been run-and-gun. Both teams shot poorly, yet both ended up over 100. Jeff Van Gundy is rolling over in his grave.

Buzzer-Beater Of The Night AKA The Other Guy That Should Replace Jameer On The All-Star Team Of The Night:

Ray Allen — 23 points, 3 boards, 3 assists, 1 steal

Young Thaddeus decided it was a good idea to leave Ray Allen open for the game-winner, SHOOK-UMP. All those in favor of Jesus on the East squad, say aye. Why so quiet, Dirty Jerse? Joe Budden? Redman? Treach? Anybody?

Actual Quote Of The Night:

If you’ve watched an NBA game on your local FoxSports network recently, you’ve inevitably been forced to sit through your friendly play-by-play previewing the trailer for the upcoming “action thriller”, Push. As this happened on Monday’s Warriors broadcast, the color guy, 64-year-old (and former player) Jim Barnett proclaimed:

“I’ve always liked Dakota Fanning, ever since she was a little girl.”

Well, then. He also shares a birthday with the CEO of L.O.N., and was born in the same state. Yikes. No word on how many L.O.N. employees just quit.

Just kidding, Mr. Barnett. Your broadcasts are actually some of our favorite. You drop knowledge like Doug Collins, only without Collin’s oh-so-soothing, Jim Nantz-esqe voice.

He's got some &*&^ to do this in front on Sam I Am.Mo Williams and LeBron are reaching their, Professor Klump, “Chemistry, chemically” stage. Their early alley opp last night was particularly sick… Is Toronto happy with the Ford/O’Neal trade? Is Indiana happy with it? If neither is happy, and they probably do not want the other player back, do they wish those guys would implode into oblivion?… Gary Payton’s collar needs to be listed as a co-host on Gametime, each week… We wish Sam Cassell had run out and tackled Andre Iguodala for breaking out his dance with Sam in the building, last night. Ray got him back, though…

Weird that VC only has 5 trip dips in his career. I would have guessed he’d have a few more.

  • Co Co Posted: Feb.4 at 9:29 am
I’d like them to replace Jameer with someone who has never been an All Star. Who cares if Vince and or Ray don’t make it for the millionth time?

  • Z Posted: Feb.4 at 9:29 am
Triple doubles are overrated. For real. To me it’s kinda like a carrousel in baseball. I’d take 28, 8, 6 everyday over 12-10-11.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Feb.4 at 9:32 am
Scoring 30 points is even more overrated than a triple-double, Z.

  • mike Posted: Feb.4 at 9:32 am
Co Co – Who cares? If they deserve it they should be there, not someone who is new to the game who is not deserving; Jesus! Jesus!

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Feb.4 at 9:32 am
And ‘Nay’ about VC for All-Star replacement.

  • Co Co Posted: Feb.4 at 9:41 am
But if they are no more deserving than someone who has never been I’d go with the someone who has never been.

  • mike Posted: Feb.4 at 9:47 am
And there is no one more deserving than Ray right now – 49.7, 41.0, 94.1

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.4 at 9:55 am
Um, Mo Williams would like a word with all of you. Again.

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.4 at 9:57 am
Also, Pops is gangsta by resting 3/5 of his starting lineup and Manu. He is able to see the bigger picture.

  • Co Co Posted: Feb.4 at 9:58 am
Its going to be Mo because they are one of the top teams in the league, their coach is coaching and most importantly LeBron’s whined about it. David Stern’s hands are tied.

  • Co Co Posted: Feb.4 at 9:59 am
I agree Tad and he did it against one of the better teams which says a lot about him.

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.4 at 10:07 am
I wonder if George Karl took offense?

  • Jukai Posted: Feb.4 at 10:50 am
Bigger picture? What exactly is that bigger picture? Have them play against the Warriors where their reserves had a chance but not against the Nuggets, where their reserves didn’t have a chance?

  • Darksaber Posted: Feb.4 at 11:02 am
Darksaber present and in favour of Jesus making allstar! Would be great if he had a weekend to tahiti planned and told stern’s henchmen to stuff it! Lucky Ray’s a gentleman.

  • Darksaber Posted: Feb.4 at 11:06 am
Lbj blocking CB’s dunk attempt was a crime upon humanity. Wow.

  • Darksaber Posted: Feb.4 at 11:11 am
last one: league players need to stop copying the grande cojones dance, immediately. Lack of imagination on these celebrations is disturbing. Someone hire T.O. To teach Kob’s, Igoudala etc. Some new moves. Sharpie anyone?

  • Anton Posted: Feb.4 at 11:21 am
So why did Pops sit out his best players? Tough love?

  • overtime Posted: Feb.4 at 11:27 am
    Aye

  • ciolkstar Posted: Feb.4 at 12:25 pm
Anytime someone does the “marbles” dance with time lef on the clock they will lose. FACT.
I love that Iguodala did the exact same thing Kobe did, in the exact same situation, with the exact same results. Loved it.

  • ciolkstar Posted: Feb.4 at 12:27 pm
Pop sat them out becasue the back to back was G State and then Denver to start the long ass Rodeo road trip. He basiaclly forfeitted the game, with the hopes that the extra rest will benefit Tony Tim and Manu for the rest of the trip. I’m cool with it mainly because Melo dropped 35 and 9 for my fantasy squad last night.

  • Anton Posted: Feb.4 at 12:34 pm
ah, I thought there was drama involved. like he was teaching them that they shouldn’t rely on the stars. oh well.

  • whooo! Posted: Feb.4 at 12:40 pm
yeah anton, pop sounded a little bitter with the scheduling. apparently after the late overtime win, san an only got to denver at 4am. considering they are an old team, it wasn’t a bad idea either. i’m sure the injuries around the league may have kept him reluctant to put tired guys on the floor, which would make em more susceptible to getting hurt.

  • Anton Posted: Feb.4 at 1:13 pm
True, though I thought they’d jump on the opportunity be out front in the west considering the Lakers are going to implode soon. Whatevs, after Boston on sunday they have about 7 easy games.

  • ciolkstar Posted: Feb.4 at 1:38 pm
Popp just understood that he couldn’t just rest Timmy or Manu because it would put undo stress on Tony and whoever else was playing to win the game on their own. I’m sure the late overtime game in GS and travel difficulties made Popp think that the Denver game would be a very tough one to win even with everybody in the lineup, deciding that having everyone rested the rest of the trip was bigger than winning the game in Denver. I guess I like the move, but maily because it shows Popp is on some game theory isht.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Feb.4 at 1:42 pm
i thought it was kinda strange by pop to do that considering it was a tiebreaker and could have seeding implications. but i think pop wanted to see what his bench could do, and they were great, they outworked denver by a mile and a half. malik hairston was hustling and getting putbacks, he can play.

  • MeloMan13 Posted: Feb.4 at 2:02 pm
i luv iguodala but common…find ur own dance. the “big balls’ dance will always belong to Sam i am, and kobe needs to hop off too

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.4 at 4:26 pm
Dark, yeah that block was insane..See Bosh put in a little extra, thinking he’d get up and over LBJ with his extra height..UH UH!

  • MeloMan13 Posted: Feb.4 at 7:36 pm
@and1: its not “his” thing. its Sams
it would just be nice if he made his own dance.
Ps. and they ended up losing anyways.
