Mike D’Antoni Wants 40

As in, 40 wins for his (24-33) Knicks: “D’Antoni revealed Thursday that he recently set a goal of 40wins, meaning that the Knicks would have to go 16-9 over their final 25 games. The way things have gone over the last four seasons at the Garden, 16 wins sometimes represented two-thirds of a season’s total for the Knicks. ‘We’ve got to try to somehow get close to 40 wins and we’ve got 24, so we need 16, any which way,’ D’Antoni said after practice at Greenburgh. ‘If we win our last 16 in a row, I’ll take that. Somehow we’ve got to get there. That will give us a good chance to get into the playoffs.’”

    I’d actually like to see them make the playoffs. I doubt it will happen, but I would enjoy watching them.

    I’d love to see them do a Golden State, sneak the 8th seed and then just go bananas against the Cavs or the Celtics.

    I don’t think D’Antoni’s having too many headaches in New York. He knew this season would be somewhat of a wash… and he’s definitely not getting heat from the media. He’s good.

    The Knick’s remaining games: Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, New Jersey, Milwaukee, Detroit, Minnesota, Cleveland. New Jersey, Sacramento, Orlando, Orlando, LA Clippers, New Orleans, Charlotte, Utah, Denver, Toronto, Toronto, Chicago, Detroit, Orlando, Miami, New Jersey. Definitely possible, but I dunno. We’ll have to see….

    Mike D’Antoni is a good coach. Plain and Simple. It became pretty obvious to everyone here in AZ after the first month of the season how much we missed him. Good coaches are hard to find. I would have liked him to have a full season to try and figure out the Suns team with Shaq. Thanks Kerr. Porter was a great idea. Good luck to him in NY and I’m sure he will continue to turn that team around.

    Jukai, That’s what I was getting at when I said Porter was a great idea. He just wasn’t a smart fit with the group of players they have. I know the Suns win’s with Gentry weren’t against the greatest teams, but I really like what he is doing with this team… playing the bench, etc. How do you think Gentry will do?

    Do you see what he’s doing with Shaq? Without Amare and an oft-injured Nash, I can’t see the Suns making the playoffs, but they’re winning now. Gentry has been FANTASTIC. I really liked how he was talking to Dragic… he had turned the ball over twice and they called a time-out and Dragic looked really upset. Gentry turned to the dude and said, “Look, I don’t care if you turn the ball over ten times more, just keep playing the way you’re playing. You’re in the NBA, you got nothing more to prove to anyone. Just go out there and play your game and don’t worry about things.”
    Dude goes back in there, drains two jumpers immediately and plays pretty solidly for the rest of the game.
    We wont know if Gentry is a GREAT coach until he actually gets over real adversity, but he’s doing good in my books.

    Looking at the Knicks’ opponents down the stretch, I think it is realistic for them to achieve 34 wins. On the other hand, one of the the Knicks trademarks has been the Uptempo Collapse. If each game is just a microcosm of the season, I think they will struggle to get 30 (as I wrote at the start of the season). Also, D’antoni sucks.
