Post Up: Wade’s 16 Dimes

While Steph’s a free man!

by Holly MacKenzie

And, Steph is free. Finally.

I kind of forgot about the hearing yesterday and didn’t find out about the buyout until I was at the arena for the Raptors/Twolves game, but when I did, I was happy to hear that it’s all finally been resolved.

Until I realized that now until Steph signs with someone we will probably hear about it daily. Please, for the sake of everyone who loves this game, let’s get him signed somewhere, quickly.

You all think he’s going to Boston?

I like the Mikki Moore move for them.

Question? Is Robert Horry really contemplating a return? I could deal with seeing him in another playoff run.

I heard that Kobe sprained an ankle tonight. Hmm. Wonder what the ankle insurance shoes had to do with this? I’m sure nothing, if we ask Kob.

Also, he moved to 19th on the all-time career scoring list.

Sad news of the night was Delonte West being inactive after scoring 25 points in his return the other night. Turns out he’s experiencing soreness in his wrist and the Cavs are not sure how long he will be out. Get well soon, Delonte!

Great news of the day is hearing Gil say he’s feeling good and running, jumping and dunking without any pain or swelling. I’m thankful for that. Let’s keep that health moving forward and hope Gil will be the Gil of old when he is able to make his return, regardless of when that may be.

I don’t care what anyone says, you all know I love that guy on court, off court and everywhere inbetween.

Okay, so onto tonight’s games. I haven’t seen one bit of basketball besides the Raptors game tonight. A friend was in town from Nova Scotia so I slipped out of the ACC to meet up. My apologies, but we can run quickly through the scores and high scorers and hopefully you guys can comment on what happened where because there are some things that need explaining… Like, the Bulls taking down the Magic 120-102.

What happened there?

Derrick Rose scored 22, Ben Gordon had 20 and Tim Thomas added 17 off of the bench. The Magic had 26 points and 12 rebounds from Dwight Howard while Hedo Turkoglu scored 16 and rookie Courtney Lee added 14. The Bulls outscored the Magic 33-20 in the final quarter and shot 57% from the floor while the Magic shot only 45%.

Coach Stan Van Gundy had this to say postgame:

“Our starting lineup brought nothing to the game,” he said. “I’m embarrassed and disgusted by what I saw. I don’t know if our players are, but they should be.”Our guys want to talk about being a contending team. We’re still not tough enough and we don’t play hard enough.”

The Lakers hung on to get the 107-93 road win against the Thunder last night. They needed 15 fourth quarter points from Kobe Bryant including 10 in a three minute span down the stretch to hold off the Thunder. Outscoring OKC 32-25 in the fourth, the Lakers earned their 47th victory of the season and won despite being outrebounded by 15. Bryant finished with 36 points as Pau Gasol added 14 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and Derek Fisher added 12. The Thunder were once again led by Kevin Durant, who scored 32 on the night to go with 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Jeff Green added 10 points and 9 rebounds, Russell Westbrook added 14 points and Kyle Weaver had 16 off of the bench.

The Spurs continued to rack up the w’s in Dallas, this time taking down the Mavs 93-76 behind a huge game from Tony Parker who had 37 points and 12 assists. They needed the big night from him as Tim Duncan (sore knee), and Manu Ginobili (ankle injury), each missed the game due to injury. This was an ugly game all around for the Mavs, as they shot just 34% and topped 20 points in just one quarter. Michael Finley had 16 points and Kurt Thomas added 10 points and 15 rebounds in Duncan’s absence. Dirk Nowtizki had 14 and 10 for the Mavs while Josh Smith had 19 and James Singleton added a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double off of the bench.

The stuggles continue for the Pistons as they gave up a career-high 16 assists to Dwyane Wade in a 103-91 victory for the Heat last night. This one was decided in the third quarter when Miami outscored Detroit 28-17, with the Pistons unable to cut into the lead into the fourth. Wade had 31 points to go with those 16 assists as Jermaine O’Neal scored 14 points and Udonis Haslem added 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Pistons received 22 points from Allen Iverson, 17 points from Antonio McDyess and 18 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists from Tayshaun Prince in the loss.

The Cavs coasted to another home victory, taking down the Grizzlies 93-79 in a game that saw Cleveland leading by double-figures after one and by 20 at the half. In 30 minutes of play, LeBron James finished with 15 points and 8 assists while Mo Williams scored 18 points and Daniel Gibson added 19 off of the bench.

Being without Tracy McGrady seems to be working for the Rockets as they took down the Blazers 98-94 last night. Opening up a 17-point first half lead, the Rockets were able to outlast a push by the Blazers down the stretch, thanks to some free throws from Aaron Brooks and some missed opportunities from Portland. Ron Artest led Houston with 21 points while Brooks added 20 points as Yao Ming and Luis Scola each added 15 points. Brandony Roy scored 24 for the Blazers while LaMarucs Aldridge scored 21 and Travis Outlaw added 15 off of the bench in the loss.

Phoenix took down Charlotte, 112-102 despite the Bobcats getting great performances from Boris Diaw (27 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists), and Raja Bell (23 points). With the teams trading leads throughout the first half, Phoenix pulled away in the third and were able to maintain their lead in the fourth. Shaquille O’Neal had 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Suns as Steve Nash added 20 points and Leandro Barbosa scored 17.

The Raptors started slowly and found themselves trailing by as many as 15 in the first quarter before turning things around and holding off the Timberwolves to get the 118-110 victory against Minnesota. The Raptors shot 53% for the game while also giving up 50% shooting to the Timberwolves, but the Raptors ball movement was so crisp, they finished with 34 assists to just 13 turnovers. Jose Calderon had another double-double with 15 points and 13 assists as Andrea Bargnani and Chris Bosh were solid with 26 points apiece. Anthony Parker had another aggressive game with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. The Timberwolves were led by Randy Foye who was dynamic, scoring 25 points. Ryan Gomes was all over the court, scoring 23 points, grabbing 9 rebounds and dishing 5 assists and Mike Miller flirted with the triple-double, finishing with 9 points, 9 assists and 12 rebounds in the loss.

    Hi Holly.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    Poor TAD.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

    Hi Eboy.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

    Hi Moose.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    What’s up Moose?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    Hello, Jukai.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

    Hey there, Eboy.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Hi Jukai. Nothing much, Eboy. Home from school sick.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Justin Walsh

nice recaps, let me know if you could- how was Bosh’s PT for his 26?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Moosepump, what do you think of the Mikki & Stephon suiting up for your squad? And can I just say I’ve been over Dwyane’s fu*king band-aid’s since game 1.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

    Ayo, Justin.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

When he said during the postgame interview “I’m going to be putting out Band-Wade’s soon” I wanted to punch him in his stiched up cheek.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Justin Walsh

aye Moose. For the record, right after I said Bosh is fine in run-n-gun he drops 26. Let’s get that out of the way :) Also, I feel kind of guilty that when I saw Wade had 16 assists…I wasn’t impressed.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Band-Wade’s! Oh man, he should do stand up.
Nice win for your team though, Eboy.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

I love the Mikki Moore signing. I was rooting for that ever since he was a free agent. A decent 7-footer (finally!) that will play some good minutes off the bench to make our thin frontcourt a bit better. And, he’s got a lot of energy and intensity. That signing can only help us. As for Stephon, I like to compare it to Randy Moss with the Pats. A player who used to be really good, had some dark years, came to a good team but was a risk . . . and it went great. I’m not saying that Steph will break records and all of that, but I’m excited and worried. KG will whip him into shape, though. And, if he’s a cancer, only hurting us . . . let him go. I think that it will definitely be interesting with Marbury. But I’m excited.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Wade has been so consistent this year. My fantasy team has been killing because of him. As for consistent fantasy players, Emeka Okafor! Dude has put up 14/12 nightly.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Justin Walsh

BET just got a hardon after that one…

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Yeah, he was joking, but that sh*t is pissing me off. And yeah, the win meant something….but the Pistons are just really bad right now. Sheed doesn’t try….Stuckey’s out of sorts, blah, blah, blah. Tayshaun and Rip played well….and McDyess was good too. But they’re a mess on the defensive end and that’s where their bread use to be buttered. Poor rotations…..no help for the guards. Just bad.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Moose, you do know Mikki Moore sucks, right

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Is it possible to dislike Tayshaun Prince the player?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Justin Walsh

I dislike him. Everything about him kills me inside.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Jukai, I like the signing because he’s a physical center, and that’s what we need off the bench. He’s also tall and has length, and we need that desperately. He’s our only seven footer (unless you count Garnett, but his height is debatable).

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

No, no Justin, I said TAYSHAUN PRINCE, not Kobe Bryant.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

    And BTW Justin, check TWFATPOV.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Moose, here’s the thing. Last year they won the title with Cassell coming off the bench as their 2nd/3rd guard. A tamed down Marbury HAS to be a more solid piece in that equation. I think his speed and shooting is what they’ll love off the bench. And Doc will keep him on a short leash. Anyone that thinks he’ll act out in such a short time frame is an idiot. Does he make the Celts the favorites…..well not really….but he will give them some potential firepower and that’s big.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Garnett isn’t seven feet. Sure, Mikki brings energy and height, but no one has ever accused him of playing great defense. Thirty minutes a game for Sacremento and he couldn’t even average a block a game. I don’t think the dude’ll do anything for Boston.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Exactly. If Marbury wants to win a chip (or at least a playoff series) he needs to take the role of our 2/3 guy off the bench, and he better accept that, no matter what he wants.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Mikki Moore has the ability to be really good in the Celts system. he’s not a game changing center, but he’s active, he’ll make some baskets and he’ll do what he can do without requiring much nurturing. Is he better than PJ? Probably not….cause PJ had bulk and experience….but he’s a better option than having Big Baby playing huge minutes off the bench. Splitting time with Powe and Glen is a good look off the bench now for them, much better than just Powe and Big Baby.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Jukai, there is speculation that KG is actually 7-1. And, I think it’s a great signing because Moore won’t play significant minutes, but he brings energy and a physical body.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Jukai…Moore will only have to play 10 to 12 minutes a game. He’s not expected to be the second coming of Robert Parish.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

And the thing is, we didn’t have anybody who’s big off the bench. Powe and GBBD are both 6-8, and they can’t play center effectively.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Exactly what I was trying to say, Eboy.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Moose….”physical body” is a huge stretch. That dude is like a pipe cleaner with dreads.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

But he’s got length. And that’s what the Celts needed. Also E, I’d check Where Basketball B. Long’s right now if I were you.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Justin Walsh

Eboy, that made me giggle like a b*tch

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Moose, I knew that from his Facebook post earlier this morning. It’s a really cool move by the SLAM fam. Stay tuned, Moose….you’ll run into something from the fam at some point. They’re good like that.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Well, I don’t expect anything. Well, I’m in Trash Talk next ish, and I already won the camo LBJ’s. I think that they’ve done enough for me. But that’s some insane stuff.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Eboy, I think that playing Big Baby for those extra 10-12 minutes would be the same as playing Mikki Moore. Sorry, the one good year Mikki Moore had was when he was being fed point blank shots by Jason Kidd. Rondo knows where all the open guys are on the floor and finds them, he doesn’t CREATE offense. Mikki Moore may be a big body, but he wont do crap for the exception of replacing an injured KG. They may win one extra game because of the latter scenario.
Just not a big Mikkie Moore fan guys, sorry.

  • BostonBaller

Moore is an excellent pick up. That’s 6 moore fouls and that will hopefully keep Perk out of foul trouble and keep his legs fresh for the playoffs. I’m sure Moore’s stats will go up a bit with open looks and oops from Rondo. I’ve been trying to convince my buddies about the possible Steph signing for months now using the Moss analogy. lol. I’m sure the bench (semi) bigs don’t like that their minutes will go down but hey, it’s about the TEAM.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Jukai’s just mad that the Suns didn’t sign him.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Yeyah! Another one for the Moss analogy! Yeah, T. Crook!

  • BostonBaller

@Moose, I can’t wait to read you in Trash talk, welcome to the Fam. lol I’ve been in 2x and almost fell over when my pic was there too. lol. The SLAM Fam are good people…T. Crook

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Thanks, BostonBaller. Saw your pic in there a while back as well, I remember. And hell yes, they are great people. I’ll be in under Moose, so you’ll know where to look. Next issue! Wikkid excited!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

“Wikkid excited?”…..it’s like I fell into Good Will Hunting.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Ever been to Beantown, Eboy? All I did was misspell it.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

That’s NOT a Boston expression, Moose.

  • BostonBaller

Boston representing Big Time! They need to create a SLAMONLINE section and feature it a couple of times a year and contact a few of you regulars and throw out a topic and let you guys go at it then publish the best of. lol A “virtual” free for all on paper if you will.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    It’s not?

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

I’m all excited for the Starbury/Celtics team, in all honesty. People keep saying that this could be the downfall of the Celtics, but I don’t see how this could harm them at all… Locker room cancer? Not on a team like the Celts.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Jukai, I’m pretty sure it is.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Eboy: It’s a common upper-east coast phrase. I hear that used way more in New York than I did in my time in Boston.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

BostonBaller, if you want that, go to any SLAM Top 50 post. Preferably one in the 37-25 range, those were interesting. BET and me just talking about random stuff.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Hell, didn’t it originate from west-coast surfers?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Where in New York? Surely not the city of Manhattan or any of the five bouroughs.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Jukai, by Boston I generally mean NE as a whole, even if that’s a bit vague. Didn’t know about NY, though.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Is it just me, or is SLAM advertising for a pocket torch above?

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Eboy: Common expression where I grew up in Long Island.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I think the surfers would just say wicked not attaching it to everything in their everyday life. Like “Dude, that wave was wicked” or “Dude, that chick was wicked”. Not like the Bostonian “That was a wicked good hot dog” “I just took a wicked sh*t” “That pu*sy was wi*ked good” “The Celts looked wicked strong”. Am I right?

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

You seem very correct Eboy. I’m out. Respect.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Justin Walsh

    ads by google? for real?

Errrr…the Pistons look wicked bad. How about that?

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    LMAO @ TAD!!!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

So E, did you go to the game?

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Can that moron be the scapegoat?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Yeah, I went. It was a decent game. Your boys couldn’t hit a shot down the stretch though.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    Who…Mason?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    I agree with Russ.

Well, I expect some notes…just because I enjoy pain.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

. . . more like whatever I say comes true, Eboy. Miami Heat won’t make the playoffs!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

That would be ok. They could get another solid pick.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Cliffie, come on, man! First of all, they won’t finish THAT horribly, and they couldn’t get a solid pick that is THAT solid because of the weak draft class. And you gotta have faith in your team! Dude, come back to reality!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I was just playing along, fu*ker. THEY’RE WINNING IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Well, if they win 41 games…..it would be nice.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

They gotta get past Boston to do that. That ain’t happening. Oh, wait, Cleveland is winning it all. You must have forgotten that! Mo Williams said so!

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

    You bastard.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    Hello, fu*ker.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    Yeah, man….he loves it.

Teach him how to heckle Kobe? And, when does he come onto the SLAM boards as “Lil’ White Hot”?

  • larrylegend

PLEASE Big Shot Rob, do it again for one last time!!! but DON’T sign with the spurs, orlando needs you…

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I had him scream “Kobe Sucks” watching Lakers games this season. He was thouroughly amused. My wife was not.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Well, I am thoroughly amused by reading that. Nice.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

He actually liked the Lakers colors and the Celts too. He also knows the Cavs by their colors. It has to be these new generation kids….they all love frontruners.

  • Twin Paradox

…I was shocked about Josh Smith there for a second…
Steph to the celtics would be too good to be true
and it would be almost as unfair as the time that Gasol guy went to LA

Bargnani is proving that he can be very effective with the Raptors’ new uptempo style

steph should head for olympiakos athens, bet Fotsis/Spanoulis would appreciate THAT. No gray area for me, Steph to a contender is not just. And i guarantee he’ll go nuclear once the stage gets big enough (playoffs). Even a blabbermouth like Gollum played Possum in Beantown, but “Star”bury, he a’int.

  • http://www.bbaxn.com Darksaber

mcdyess is playing like the stud he is. One of my alltime favs! How sweet would that homecoming have been if he’d signed with Denver, along with chauncey. That rejuvenated frontcourt would have been formidable. But no, he has to deal with this ongoing mess.

Orlando, it’s called the Rafer Effect…

  • http://where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

    B. Long is in the building baby! Mooserwokee, you need to put down the Slim Shady track and download some Asher Roth on your Ipod, espeically his version of the A Millie Remix. Fire.

  • http://www.bbaxn.com Darksaber

dunno, eminems new joint’s growing on me. Must be all that heavy rotation (and Dre’s great voice) so, am i going to be led into the backyard and put out of my misery by the marshall haters?

Dwaaaayynne Waaaaaaaadeee!! That bandaid is hot, he should advertise which players he wants on it, that’d be hilarious. Being interviewed..:”yeah my team’s all good man, no trades needed” *turns to the camera, his bandaid reading “Bosh 2010 or bust”.
Also, is it just me or does OJ Mayo look like a dog falling asleep?

  • http://www.bbaxn.com Darksaber

the band-AD idea by anton is genius. Make it so D. I luuuuv Flash’s game and it’s kinda cool seeing him dominating in his older signature wade’s. Purrrty shoe!

  • http://iwantoutofokc.com/ James the balla

    Yooooo What up everybody!!!

  • http://www.bbaxn.com Darksaber

must piss converse/nike off though. Signature athlete refuses to lace em up in the newest version of his shoe, and ro top it off, Elton’s a bust.

  • http://www.kicksonfire.com Anton

Although I’m sure someone like Iverson will take advantage of this idea and write all the teams he’s interested in all over his shooting sleeve.

  • http://iwantoutofokc.com/ James the balla

    Congratulations Playa’s!!!!

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Asher Roth, Eminem, and Dwade’s bandaid are all garbage.

  • http://iwantoutofokc.com/ James the balla

Asher Roth lol. I didn’t know to many people knew about that guy. He is pretty good. Both overrated and underrated.

The heat will proabably only win about 45 wins this year, but i think depending on their seeding they have a chance to be an ECF team. If they can get that 5 seed and play Atlanta in the first round, i’d take the HEat easy. Then they would paly The Cav’s in the second round which will be just amazing to watch Wade and Bron go head up.

  • http://iwantoutofokc.com/ James the balla

Wade may win that … because it would make my job easier on cutting Lebron up!!

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Roth is occasionally funny, but largely wack. Just picture if Eminem went to a private highschool and then became a fratboy in college.

  • http://iwantoutofokc.com/ James the balla

Yeah .. but at least he does have some skill. He just talks slow so it makes it easier to rap his sh1t!

  • http://hot_sauce_is@hotmail.com RUTAX

good performance by DWADE…carried the team in the fourth…16 assists..mmm ok thats not bad….but its all about the WINS!!!!

  • Myung

I know Josh Smith got called for a flagrant 2 the other night, but what was his punishment? To go play for the Mavs?

  • http://hot_sauce_is@hotmail.com RUTAX

yea LEBRON and DWADE in the playoffs..that would be awesome…you may beat DWADE in the regular season…but the post season is a different story…i think this guy will be BIG in the playoffs

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

    Hi Anton.

  • minikidd

hey, I’ve noticed D-wade using the 1st wade converse shoe in his last couple of games, which btw is CLEARLY the best wade shoe ever… Why does converse allow him to do that? Or is he allowed at all, I mean you’d think they’d like for him to represent his neewest shoe..

  • http://hot_sauce_is@hotmail.com RUTAX

DWADE….good shooting percentage…which come off good drives and shots…not dominating like Lebron

imagine if DWADE was LEBRONS SIZE AND HEIGHT!!!lol

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ RUTAX: Well yes, Dwade is going to play sublimely in the playoffs.
Except the his team will suck.
