Rafer Alston and ‘Title Hunt’ are Being Discussed in Orlando

In the same phrase, no less: “The beauty of this deal is the Magic really gave up nothing — benchwarmers Brian Cook and Adonal Foyle and a future draft pick — of immediate value. In return, they actually got a decent starting point from a contending team. They got a player who at least gives them a chance to contend right now for a championship in the wake of Jameer Nelson’s season-ending shoulder injury. ‘We can’t, as general managers, expect our fans to say wait until next year,’ Otis Smith said. ‘I think it’s important for our fans to know that just because we lost Jameer, we’re not sitting back on our thumbs. … Rafer gives us an opportunity to get better and get back to competing for a title. That’s what it’s about for me.’”

    “Sitting back on our thumbs?!”

i think the move upgraded their current pg situation, but why it would put them over boston or cleveland i can’t understand. Even with jameer healthy they weren’t quite better than cleveland in a 7 game series, maybe not even better than boston and skip is an upgrade over lue and johnson, but a downgrade from jameer.

skip and jameer both have same style, 3 pt masters and great passing skills. i think its almost as if jameer never got hurt, but cook and foyle magically disappeared

My new NBA conspiricy is KG out with knee or hobbled by it, NBA most popular athelte by fan voting makies it to finals vs Lakers, great ratings, new twist, and Kobe gets greatest b-ball player on planet award.

And the before curcial game 5 Ron Stan Jeremy VanGundy shoots p0rn movie in LA hotel room the night before

I think calling Skip a “3 pt master” is a tad bit of an overstatment and he’s probably a better passer than Nelson. Jameer had been shoting the lights out, and while I don’t expect that from Skip I think he will definitely keep them in the mix.

Sorry Magic fans, Skip is nothing like Jameer.

Jameer isn’t coming back this season so these comparisons with Skip are inconsequential. I guess you could compare Skip with Anthony Johnson, but I’d rather you didn’t.

I respect the Magic for making this move.

Rafer will be wearing numero uno in Orlando…

  • Kadvavour

This works out well for both teams. Skip was one fcuk-up away from being a bonafide malcontent and the Rockets bench has some nice pieces at that pg spot. Aaron Brooks, time to step up

  • ENDSwing

i dont know what 2 think but im excited which i havent been since Premiere went out

Ha steal for orlando. When jammer comes back this should be a very intresting bench for the magic. I see a lot of alley opps for superman coming soon

Too bad they’re losing to the Cats tonite.

I liked this move by Orlando..I loved Skip in TO.

  • $tev3

i respect skip to my lue but if he wins a chip b4 A.I. i will be a little upset

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Skip is the man and best of luck to him. It was a joy watching him play for my Houston Rockets.
It also doesn’t hurt that he reps New York.

Rafer is a cancer. Only way Orlando will ever have a shot at winning championship is when Dwight gets more than 4 shots against NOR or 7 against the Nuggets (both losses) and shoots 75% from the FT. Or he finds someone like Kobe to become like Shaq-Kobe combo.

Rafer a cancer…? I think your getting him mixed up with T-MAC (SHAPOW!) This works VERY WELL for this Orlando team… and gives the team a little trade power next season too with a healthy Jameer back.

  • http://sportzin.com Joey E.

The reason Orlando was doing so well was not only because of their shooters, but because their PG Nelson was shooting 50%. Raefer shoots 35%. This move means nothing

“We can’t, as general managers, expect our fans to say wait until next year.”

    you hear that donnie walsh?

  • At The End Of The Day

“The addition of a pass-first point guard like Alston was infectious for the ball movement on Sunday as the Magic had assists on 15 of their first 22 baskets. They finished with 22 assists — something they’ve done just once in the previous 15 games.”

    Yeah, this move means nothing..

Otis seems to have crossed-up, “Sitting on our hands,” and “Sitting around with our thumbs up our asses.” Horrible imagery.
