Report: Sam Cassell Traded to Sactown

Talk about being given a reason to retire immediately: “The Sacramento Kings agreed in principle to a deal with the Boston Celtics on Monday night, a league source told ESPN.com. The Celtics will send Sam Cassell and cash to the Kings for a future second-round pick. Barring any changes overnight, the deal is expected to be finalized Tuesday afternoon with the league office.”

This must only mean that they are about to sign somebody right?

    guaranteed retiree…

It makes sense if he retires and immediatly becomes an official asst coach for the Celts. If not, well that’s just rude.

It is only right that the originator of the big-ball-dance is traded to ‘Sactown’, no?

  • Luke

I thought that he was supposed to be an assistant coach for the Celtics next season?

  • Trevor

The Kings will release him, he will retire and get on the Celts coaching staff.

Also, I think the C’s will sign another player AND probably bring Sam back as an assistant. I remember reading on here somewhere that Sam and Ray Allen are the only guys that can “get through to Rondo”.

I don’t understand why the Kings agreed to this. They gave up a draft pick for a player that won’t suit up for them, and correct me if I’m wrong (seriously, I haven’t checked), but I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have a contract that will make much of a difference when it comes off the books.

The Kings shouldn’t be allowed in the league. It’s just, c’mon, what IS that? purple shirts, Brad Miller, John McCain, and now Cassell? How you gonna promote that to sponsors?

wow. TAD gots so much props for that one, which i agree is genius. as for the trade, i just don’t get it. why would Kings agree to this? how do they benefit from this trade? i’d like to read their official statement if/when this happens.

Will Kevin Martin start doing the balls dance now?

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com/ Seth

Don’t really see what the Kings are doing here besides getting some cash. Sam will probably be let go and perhaps return to the Celtics as part of the coaching staff I expect. Danny Ainge might have a trade up his sleeve since now there’s an open roster spot… I just hope it’s a big man.

I don’t think Kevin Martin, with his slight frame could carry big cajons.
