Rip Hamilton on This Whole Sixth Man Thing

In keeping with the Detroit theme today: “I said I would come off the bench as long as we win,’ Hamilton said. ‘But we’ve been losing. We are 4-12 with me coming off the bench. Something’s got to give. Something’s got to change. I am on board with doing whatever for the team but coming off the bench and we’re not winning, that’s something totally different.”

That is article #3 today Marcel. I get it.

  • michael

send A.I. to the damn bench
    we love u rip

  • Malik

If Detroit was smart, they put Iverson on the bench, and have Rip start. When the second unit comes in, Iverson could play like he did when he was in Philly. Joe Dumars trading Iverson for Billups was the 2nd worst decision he’s ever made*. The sad thing about it is, Iverson’s one of my favorite players and Detroit’s my favorite team.

    *I’m pretty sure ya’ll know #1…….

This is actually amusing……and kind of Ground Hog Day-ish.

  • niQ

no offense, but stuckey has been sucking as of late.

  • Wayne

Iverson demands the ball to much for Stuckey to succeed playing with him. Every PG that AI has played with just brought the ball past half-court and passed it to him, you can’t expect much different in this situation.

Bench AI and Start Rip…and fire Curry…and hire the entire cast of the movie Hoosiers…and kick Rasheed Wallace in the groin…

  • underdog

Michael Curry is a joke. Let Sheed handle the coaching dutys.

Well by Monday it will be 10 loses in a row and after tuesday we can just quit with these piston posting cause quite frankly its depressing and I use this site as a quick escape of happiness and this shoot does not help.

these are times when i miss that 2004 championship squad

    Amen Collin. Amen.

The bench isn’t a place for Rip. He’s too good to come off the bench in a losing effort. Sit AI, if anyone. Who do you think is better with his teammates and the system in MoTown–Rip, who has been there, or AI, who just got there?

  • destiny

fa real rip has no business coming off the bench.thats not where he belongs.i hate 2 say it but i think ai need 2 be on the bench.

  • Prison Mike

What I want to know is if Iverson gets to take #3 from Stucky next season.

  • Young C

You’d have to be extremely shortsighted to think that trading for Iverson was Dumars’ worst decision. A blind man can see that the AI trade was mostly about cap space. With the talent the Pistons have and the cap space they will have (not even including any young talent they may get in trades and draft), this team is in prime position to get a bigtime free agent in 09 or 10. You really can’t judge this trade until a couple of years. You,ve had a decade of consistent winning and a championship. So Piston fans, please stop the complaining!

  • Wayne

Amen young C…you know what’s up. Detroit would’nt have beat Boston or Cleveland with Billups, so they decided to get something out of it by freeing up cap space. The move was freakin brilliant. Granted the Pistons are underachieving and should be an above .500 team this year, either way they wouldn’t have won a title.

  • Wayne

I’ll trade 1 or 2 more runs to the ECF to be eliminated for 20+ million in cap space any day.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Allen Iverson should not come off the bench and neither should Rich. Maybe Stuckey should because he’s not a pure point guard anyways.

  • http://att.net romedog

Bench AI. Please. I cant take anymore of this circus act. The pistons could salvage this season only if rip is back in the lineup. AI is the worse defender in the league and the pistons are all about defense. He cant play team ball on the offensive end either. And instead of making the players around him better, he makes them worse. The evidence is there and it is clear. This is not about egos. this is about deeetroit basketball and AI cant play it. dig. Wake the hell up Joe D and Mr Curry. Make a decision before its to late. Before you brake your teams spirit permenantly.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Okay they tried Rip off the bench, now lets try AI and see what happens.

  • kingofsota

AI off the bench makes more sense as he is a scorer first and a scorer second and a defender third. rip is a complete player and team leader.

  • kingofsota

I mean he looks for his own shots even when he’s on D. However i still think he’s a first ballot hall of famer. I don’t mean to hate, AI, but you are simply not the answer right now.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

I’ll go to my grave saying that Rip should havwe never touched that bench.

  • Hold on…wait a minute!

Ok…so AI can come off the bench so people can hate on him even more for coming off the bench. @ Eric, if Rip is supposidlt “too good to come off the bench in a losing effort” then WTF is AI? Chop liver? I swear Iverson is the most hated on dude in the history of the league. Also, for the person who said Stucky cant play with AI, during Stuckys little run and the Pistons won seven strait (without Rip) Stucky was with guess who? Iverson. Real talk, im starting to question Rip. If visit Pistons boards (people who actually watch the games) people are starting to think that Rip and Sheed are starting to dog it through the games and throw games because they were pissed about the Billups/Iverson trade. Rips attitude has not been “leadership like” (dude walk around acting like he is Kobe or like he has had an “Iverson like career” since Iverson got there and it is dissappointing to see a team that has been one of the most consistant teams in the L (and still should be) have this much of an ego that they would continue to cry over spilt milk instead of being professionals and realizing it was time to move on. Neither Rip or Iverson should be coming off the bench. You can’t sit back and hate on Iverson without including Rips more then obvious obstruction of that team.

  • Diogo

Iverson >= Rip. Stuckey < Iverson. Stuckey < Rip. It’s simple mathematics.

  • Tommy Patron

I love how on ABC today, Mike Tirico was talking about, “If Iverson buys in…that Detroit could make some noise”, while the Pistons were beating Boston. Buys into what? Curry’s crappy coaching? Rip and Sheed dogging it all year? This Detroit situation is a joke. I hope they sit AI, so those delusional jaggoffs can get embarassed in the spring.
