T-Mac Is Confused, Might Shut it Down for the Season

by Marcel Mutoni

Yesterday, Tracy McGrady underwent an MRI on his gimpy knee for the umpteenth time this season. The good news, I guess, is that the status of his knee remains unchanged. That is to say, it’s still a mess – as we’ve all clearly seen.

According to T-Mac, however, he’s receiving conflicting reports from the doctors, and will make a decision on what to do with himself and the knee following the All-Star break.

From Click2Houston:

“It just regressed,” a sullen McGrady said. “Since I had the surgery, the same injury is there.”

The injury could end McGrady’s season, although he says he will exhaust all options, and microfracture knee surgery is a last resort. Making matters murky, however, are conflicting opinions from doctors.

“I’ve been getting some good news, and I’m getting bad news,” McGrady said. “I’m confused…It’s not fair to the guys (for me) to rest, come back, and then 5-6 games I’m feeling the same, no. I have to, for myself, for this team, fix the problem so I don’t have it no more.”

I’m not a betting man, but if I had to guess, my gut tells me we won’t be seeing too much of Tracy in the second half of the season. Shocking, I know.

My guess is his decision will depend on how well the team does without him. Because if he senses he could get out of the first rd of the playoffs, you have to think he’ll be out there.

  • Big J

Damn that sucks well I hope the best of luck

  • Prison Mike

He needs to start only playing in the playoofs. Never play in the regular season. 2 months of playoffs followed by 10 months of recovery/surgery/rest.

  • J

I thought he was back to himself? Oh, I forgot, this is actually more like his old self.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Oh boy, there goes the comeback declaration from a few weeks ago. This whole thing feels so penny-esque.

  • donlaker

sounds like robert horry to me , playoffs only
for t-back yao needs you ,so does skip to my lue , van gundy had you dudes winning the west
or are you saying no no no no no like mutumbo
come on tracey suck it up if david robinson could win a ring with a bad back so could you.

  • Young Chris MP3

And this wasn’t expected before the season started? Now I’m going to love it if the rest of their team remains healthy and makes it to the Western Finals or something like that. How great would that be?

  • T Money

T Mac gets the last laugh. A million dollars per game.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Playoffs only? So that means 4 to 7 games a season?

  • riggs

he needs to get the hell out of houston for his medical treatment, because they all suck over there.

  • Funkdoc

We’ve been confused about T-Mac for years

  • tenorca

Knee-Back out for the season is the least surprising development of 2009. Houston’s annual dissapointment continues, unabated.

    Von Wafer, come on down!!!!!

  • http://www.nba.com JE

I feel so damn bad for this guy.

  • http://www.ravingblacklunatic.blogspot.com Allenp

    What’s to be confused about?
    It’s over.

  • Mike

Just read that they might trade Artest for VC…Maybe playing with his cuz will make that knee feel better. On a side note, I think a VC-Yao combo could do some damage in the playoffs.

Tracy is in denial. Does he think that after surgery he’d just heal up and be the player he was before? Rehabbing from serious surgery is REALLY hard work. Much harder than just maintaining a certain level of fitness. I think his ego is whats really hurting right now.

  • Orlando Green

When I saw the highlights of him going alone on the break and getting blocked by the rim…I said to myself…okay it’s now time to retire or move to Phoenix. But then I saw him rip one on Tyrus’s head…so I don’t know…

He is my favourite player so it kills me to see him suck like this. I remember the days where the discussion was about T-mac and Kobe.

Him and Gil need to team up as an ultimate blogging team.

  • http://docfunk.blogspot.com Doc Funk

I hope T-Mac’s chillin’ time isn’t jeopardized by any potential recovery. He’s was having a spectacular chillin’ season, too. It would be a shame to see that come to an end for just a few games.

same old story here. T-mac just needs to sit out a whole season and het his ish right and healthy to come back %100

  • Jared Smith

another depressing chapter in the t-mac story
heres hoping he heals and comes back mature with a chip on his shoulder

  • CHE

Everyone say hello to the new Grant Hill, or should I say wave goodbye..

  • bOBbY DIgITAl

tmac and positive news never go together

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

like his cousin said in the 2000 dunk contest:
    it’s over.

  • http://kb24.com Bigi

  • http://nba.com tealish

Z and Albie1kenobi win this one.

  • Diesel

Seriously, is there a more depressing story in the NBA than Tracy McGrady’s? The injuries, the playoffs…the man can’t catch a brake. He needs to request a trade to a team in the East next year and make one last push for a playoff run.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

honestly though, if you think about it, doesn’t grant hill have a similar career (never getting past first round and career derailed by injuries)? the difference is that Hill is actually having a somewhat successful come back and he doesn’t talk big.
though sometimes i feel like i’m mcgrady in my own life…that’s just effing depressing.

  • http://www.bbl.org.uk Josh D

Why arer they running MRIs on him after he’s recovered from injury? Does he get injured so much they have to give him an MRI every day to make sure he’s not injured again?

  • donlaker

why did he and vinsanity seperate in toronto:
(egos), they could have been playoff bound every year , but both wanted that spotlight(flashlight)
greenlight ,everybody’s gotta little light, under the sun (opps my parliament is playing loud)

  • matt

trade him to the suns, they know how to rejuvenile dudes ….

  • http://www.stonesthrow.com/ Michael NZ

    Rejuvenile. Awesome.

  • mike

Playoffs? So that means 4 games, only 4 games

  • http://myspace.com/mavus15 Mavus

STOP COMING BACK AT 70% to 80%!!!! You get injured again and again… wait til you are FULLY healed!!!

  • Dubya

T MAC! I’m the one laughing now hahahahahahaha! You guys will never ever win a ring! Stop being like a baby Yao says by the way.

  • Prison Mike

Do you think there is anything about him wearing #1 on his jersey and never getting past round #1. Should he change to a higher jersey number, like 2,3, or 4?

  • http://allanzuss@yahoo.com Mendel

I can no imagine any team in the NBA that would want him. In think he truly will and should qualify for the handicap status to get him off Hustons books

  • The g funk

Dude shut yourself down get some real rest and properely recuperate. Houstons passing the ball to him thinking hes the Mac of 3 or 4 years ago, and we know you cant rely on him like that. Houston are gonna make the playoffs whether he plays or not. Mcgrady’s an amazing jumpshooter, have him coming off the bench making some easy jumpers, big shots. That failed one on none basket come on mac? grant hill with his bionic legs is playing better ball than you lately. I have a feeling though if he sits out for a long time now, in the future mac will be a rocket no more.

  • Young Chris MP3

Josh D @ 3:23 pm made my day. And Penny’s career turned out better than T-Mac’s. At least Heaven Cent did his thing in Phoenix and was a key component of the Knicks last playoff run. Kind of strange to think that he was playing hurt/injured for much of his time with the Suns and Knicks, yet still was somewhat successful. If only they knew how to treat Microfracture surgery in the late 90′s the way they do now…

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

I don’t think “rest” is the issue. The problem is that all Mac wants to do is “rest” (and play in the games) and expects to be able to dominate the way he used to. Dude had all the gifts, but since it always came so easy he never really put the work in. RonRon’s been saying the same about him thing all year, Sonny Vaccarro said it years ago. He’s going to have to work harder than he ever has in his entire life if he wants to get anywhere near the TMac we used to see. I wouldn’t bet on it.

Man this guy never misses any games!

  • ab_40

c’mon now you never reach any amount of greatness if you don’t work so to say he doesn’t or never has worked for it isn’t even dumb… it’s ignant. The man has serious mental issues about the knee and the tendon keeps pulling, he moves like an old man cuz his muscles from all the rehabing and weight lifting, gaining weight losing weight are a little short. I feel bad for him because on skill alone he’s top ten in the leauge it’s just too bad that his body isn’t working right now. I hope he shuts it down and comes to his senses like ok I ain’t gonna be running and jumping like 6 years back. this is my skill set this is how conditioned I am, can I still dominate? yes but in other areas. I think he should call it a season as bad as it sounds. The team acts like it’s best player. see boston and LA T-mac is houston’s best player and yao is 1b or 1a whatever you want but both of those guys are inconsisten and look to be unsure of themselves when they are on the court. This has rubbed off on the team. as much as you dislike it when you work or as in this case practice and play games with the same guys over the years you take over some of their traits. it happens all around the nba.

but mr mcgrady please shut it down, I know it’s hard and I know people are gonna burn him for it but still if he comes back 100 percent next season we’ll laugh about it. If he keeps on playing like this he’ll only embarace himself so to speak. it takes a man to know when to take one step backwards to take two steps forward afterward. I wanna see if mr mcgrady is man enough to do so.

and on a less serious note he better hury with his descision cuz von wafer is real deep in ron artest’s a$$ right now so they gonna want to beat him up for f in up their games.

  • 44

Don’t worry T-Mac, you gonna catch up with Agent 0…

  • 44

    T-mac for ‘MVP’!… Most Valuable Patient…

  • 44

T-Mac for MVP!!! Most Valuable Patient…

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    @ ab_40: You can’t say sh!t about Yao.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Best of luck, T-Mac.

  • im just sayin

i hope he neva put on a nba jersey again. lil ray fell on his knee in the rain yesterday. us ball players know tthe feelin. 2day in gustin winds shot the damn ball like errthing stayed still. im sayin no names cause he be on slam too but ray made him not wanna play ball nomore…chris sorry but ray hit u hard. t mac go to hell. i always read about a yao injury but hes always playin. they had to basically have security with ron artest so he wouldnt play ball when he was out..but highest payed player sits when he want..t mac is like a damn wall street ceo. straight robbin the fans…..f!@#ing crybaby.. eat a d!@#. sorry slam for my french but this asshole is really startin to piss me off. by the way im a knickfan so if im mad imagine what houston is thinkin…..im just sayin

  • ClydeSays

I don’t think TMac is going to get healthier. There are alot of miles on those wheels.

  • http://www.kayceonline.com/blog/ Kevin

    retire dude.

  • nashty

Is this the last laugh Tmac was referring to 2 month ago? ……..I am confused too….

  • Mark Z

    Dear TMac,
    We’re confused too.

  • snyper48

    Rejuvenile is great…

  • CHE

Is it true the reason Tmac his back and knee problems is because one leg is a little longer than the other?

  • Lucky F. Bastard

But he was livin it up at Tryst @ the Wynn on Saturday…lmao

  • clutch city houston

tmac’s only problem is in his head. he rode the back problems and spoke of needing to retire when he was in orlando, then the md in him predicted before testing the knee during the regular season that the knee would give him trouble this season. he’s faking it and i’m sick of what he’s doing to our beloved rockets in htown. ultimately, i blame the rockets, we mistook him for somebody great. now we’re stuck with the first round wonder.
