The Post Up: Sweetest 61

Oh, to be at the Garden last night.

by Holly MacKenzie

Well hello everyone. What a beautiful day. Kobe scored 61 points last night. At MSG. On 19-31 field goal attempts. 20-20 from the free throw line. He’s so good that guy. He’s here in Toronto….. TOMORROW. I’m a little excited. Also a little bitter because I didn’t see the whole game unfortunately. Yes, I’m serious. No, I don’t want to talk about it. Our own Matt Caputo saved me from the self-hatred that would come from missing the entire game, so thank him for me, would you?

Kobe Bryant. My goodness. He was absolutely and entirely unstoppable down the stretch and it was brilliant to watch. Russ was there. I’m pretty jealous.

His big game helped to take some of the sting away from the news that we’re going to be without Andrew for…. Oh probably forever. Eight to twelve weeks is what they are saying, but that takes us to the second round of playoffs, or somewhere around there. Just sucks. As much as it sucks for my team, it sucks even more for Andrew, a guy who had to sit out and watch from the sidelines last year and now, after working his tail off all summer, will have to do it again.

This is the part I hate about sports.

Rough, rough night for the point guards last night. Chris Paul went down with a strained groin and Jameer Nelson suffered a separated shoulder. It’s going to really sting if Nelson has to miss the All-Star game. Well wishes are being sent to the two of them.

I need to address the fact that the Post Up isn’t going to be the normal Post Up these next two days. I’ve got a friend coming in for the rest of the week and I am taking these two days off. I’ll be back Thursday to recap the Lakers/Celtics showdown in Boston but I’ve got my Lakers game Wednesday and tomorrow? I fully intend to enjoy this city with wonderful company.

There will be Post Ups, but I can’t give you any more info than that, at this point in time. Ha. You’ll be updated, though. Don’t worry about that.

Okay, so in addition to taking the next two nights off from League Pass and Posting Up, I was busy tonight and didn’t see anything besides Kobe’s fourth quarter. Yeah, yeah, I know. In order to be a gracious host, I needed to take care of some things, so basketball went to the back burner. And Kobe punished me to remind me that is never a good idea.

Yes, I also missed the Golden State/San Antonio overtime affair. Of course, the Spurs won out, 110-105. Tim Duncan had 32 points and 15 rebounds while Manu Ginobili also scored 32, his coming off of the bench. Tony Parker added 23. Golden State was led by Stephen Jackson’s 33 points and 11 assists as Monta Ellis had 17 and Corey Maggette added 15.

The Grizzlies drilled the Wizards 113-97 and OJ Mayo continued to make my heart smile as he scored 33 points on the night. Rudy Gay had 23 points while Marc Gasol scored 22 points to The Magic defense.go with 11 rebounds. The Wizards were led by Antawn Jamison’s 29 and 13 as Caron Butler added 21 and Nick Young scored 13 off of the bench.

The Mavericks got lucky against the Magic and were able to pull out a 105-95 victory as the Magic were shook when they lost floor leader Jameer Nelson to a separated shoulder. Without their point guard the Magic were unable to get it done on the second night of a back-to-back and fell on their home floor. Dirk had 29 points for the Mavs while Jason Terry added 23 off of the bench. Dwight Howard had 35 and 11 for the Magic while Hedo Turkoglu added 18 in the loss.

The Heat ripped the Clippers 119-95 as Dwyane Wade had 32 points and 9 assists. Michael Beasley scored 18 off of the bench as the Heat spoiled Zach Randolph’s return. Randolph had 21 points off of the bench for the Clips, but it wasn’t enough to get a W.

The Blazers took down the Hornets 97-89 as New Orleans fell apart after Chris Paul left the game with a strained groin. Jerryd Bayless had 19 off of the bench for the Blazers as LaMarcus Aldridge added 22 and 11 and Travis Outlaw scored 16. The Hornets were led by David West’s 25 points and the 12-point, 13-assist night Paul had before he left the game for good.

After their late night meeting, the Suns were happy to face the Kings. They had good reason as they ripped them 129-81. Nope, that’s not a typo. The Kings shot 36% from the floor for the game while the Suns shot 51%. And, there goes the ballgame. Jason Richardson had 24 points and 6 assists for the Suns while Amare Stoudemire scored 25 points and Grant Hill added 14. John Salmons had 19 to lead the Kings in the loss as Kevin Martin had 13 on only 2-10 shooting.

I know it’s not a great sign, but that was awesome. Kobs still got it…

  • namik

Oh and heres hoping both CP3 and Jameer make a speedy recovery. Injuries suck. Also Mike D’Antoni- Its probably not a good idea to bait Kobe a day after he busted his Centers knee…

  • Niio

I wasn’t sure we would see a scoring outbust from “team” Kobe this year, just serves as a reminder that he is still the BLACK MAMBA!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Did anyone think that Kobe couldn’t still score at this type of rate? It depends on the D he faces (which the Knicks have none) and how hot he gets (which he was on fire). Great work by Bean…..but I’ll say it too…..giving up 117 to the Knicks? Horrible. Kobe having to bear his fangs against such a poor team. Not that great. Pau playing a big game? Good. The rest of the squad as an afterthought? Not good, but good news for the rest of the competitive league that can see that shutting down Kobe will be the main objective on most nights….making the Lakers a much easier squad to deal with when a team with some form of talent plays them.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

I agree on all points, Eboy. To your question, I think this is the last season we’ll see Kobe score at such an efficient rate. Last night may have been one of the last (if not *the* last) times he breaks the 60-point plateau.

  • Sebastian B. O. Bunionstow, esq.

I don’t care who it is, if you’re hitting over .50 of your shots, keep chuckin’. Kobe (19 for 31) was on fire.

  • namik

Don’t bet on that Ryne. And Eboy, it seems the Lakers have completely given up on defense. And even though it seems to be working now, its not a great mindset to have for a team with championship aspirations. But they still have Pau and he did have 31 and 14 last night. I know its the Knicks but Pau can definitely pick up some of the slack.

  • Dnice

    Feed him and fan him.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Ryne….I think Kobe will have these types of scoring games periodically….at least for the next 4 seasons. It won’t go away overnight.

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

    hahahahah @ Ryne and Eboy

Yeah your right, he should probly retire after this season!!

Kobe for MVP. He just showed why ya’ll hate him. He was great last night. End of conversation!!

  • stokesey

Ryne- What makes u think that?? “, I think this is the last season we’ll see Kobe score at such an efficient rate” Just curious not bein smart…

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

    Good point Eboy.

And the Knicks are not that bad.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

namik….I agree…when Pau plays big…the Lakers are rock solid, with or without Bynum. The problem though…is that Pau doesn’t do that consistentley in a playoff setting and Kobe and Pau against the world doesn’t quite have the same terror behind it that lets say….Kobe and Shaq did. Know what I mean?

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

I think Kobe just let everyone know … including Lebron and Wade that he is going to put it into 3rd gear and you HAVE to still defend him!!!

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

If Lebron scored 61 points last night lol. I can see the articles coming now. Another GQ cover. The next 4 SLAM COVERS, maybe 5. 6 Articles on how he is the MVP. O and how much better he is than Kobe lol.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

James…if you don’t want to be objective in the conversation….leave me out of it. Thanks, bro.

  • namik

Eboy, I don’t think Bynum, Pau and Kobe have the same terror that Kobe and Shaq did. But seeing as “The Combo” counts as one of the best pair ups EVER, that is not too surprising. And although Pau played great right upto the Finals last year, I do NOT want to see Boston or Cleveland without Drew. And its great to see Beas being mentioned more consistently.

  • Fred34

Amazing, now if only we could go back in time and copy and paste that performance instead of what happened in game 6 of the finals – meh.

  • namik

James I’m a Laker fan too and last night was great. But you need to calm down bro. This has nothing to do with Bron or Wade. Alright I’m out. Have a great day y’all!

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

lol still man … to much HATE!!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

namik….I think Bynum, Pau and Kobe had a bottom line about them that if they played at a high level….we’ll we’ve seen how good they are offensivley. The problem is, Pau and Drew and mediocre defenders (with Drew being a good off the ball shotblocker and a decent post defender but not great and Pau is just…there)and unless Ariza and Fish are on the court the Lakers D is about as potent as the Kings. This is a shortcoming they have with or without the Big Youngster. And yeah….Beasley is getting more solid each game…..it’s starting to come together for him.

  • Fred34

Eboy, you’re being awfully kind – Pau and Drew are both tres soft on D – too bad too cuz they could use a Drew beast in the paint – maybe next year :)

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

James….I didn’t hate Kobe’s performance last night….I thought he was fantastic……I just have an objective view from not being blinded as a fan…and think that in the Lakers FIRST gae with Drew….Kobe had to go THAT route….to beat the KNICKS….well that’s just….we’ll see how they do in Boston and Cleveland before I pass judgement.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    *game without

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

It is just a statement. He has to show his fangs. All I know is, with Drew out… it is going to make a BIG case for MVP!!!

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Incredible performance by one of the all-time greats. Can’t get mad a 61 pts on 30 shots. When a guy is that hot, you keep feeding him. As many have pointed out, the Lakers SHOULD be worried about their defense, though. Giving up 117 points against anybody is not a good sign for a team that’s trying to win it all.
The loss of Bynum hurts in more ways that can be shown on a stat sheet. They can basically get bullied around again. Pau and Lamar are skilled but soft as tissue paper.

  • Matt

    Kobe>>>>>>> LeBrick

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

Agreed with Z… Where is BETCATS at. I need to hear all his negative views on why Kobe sucks along with why this is bad for the Lakers!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

As I wrote last summer, he’s probably the best player in the world.

  • Tom

Agree with everyone saying the Lakers need to worry about their D…but they’ve needed to worry about it since the season started. Hopefully it starts to tighten up considerably after the all-star break. I think they’re pick n’ roll D will actually be better without Bynum though, because that was probably his biggest weakness.

  • WhaHuh

    “thats a quick shoe!”

  • Tom

Also, I don’t think we are gonna see Kobe start going for these monster games everynight. If he’s feeling it early, you can’t ignore it, otherwise I think you’ll see the balanced attack. That being said though, I’m gonna do whatever I can to get tickets to see him in Toronto tomorrow.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Last fall, actually. But look — I totally did write that sh*t.

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

I have court side tickets. I have always wnated to see Kobe play. I was suppose to be there tomorrow for the game. And I can’t get out of work!!! DANG military!!

  • Tom

James, that sucks, so are you still gonna make it. I say its worth the dishonarable discharge to just go anyways.

Simply the world’s greatest. (for the last 5 years that is…)

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

@TOM, haha tell me about it. I am at work now studying some crazy sh1t. It wouldn’t be discharged it would be more like the MP’s pulling me out of my seat. And then everyone at SLAM would know what I look like because it would be on the sports channels. In which that would be bad because alot of people hate me on this site lol.

  • http://slamonline.com/online/media/2008/10/slam-radio-the-most-unlikely-preseason-venue/ James The Balla

And No I will not make it. Right next to the Raptor tunnel. I was going to throw something and Bosh. Like aybe a pair of scissors. If you know what I mean!!

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Ryan, I’d have to disagree. He’s most definitely the best scorer in the game. I feel that LeBron has a greater impact on the game. Scoring, rebounding, setting teammates up, leading the team, maximizing everyone’s abilities, etc.

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ Panagiotis Vasilopoulos

Q…:Why Lebron can’t make it over 60 as easy as Kobe…? (ok,he will succeed once or two in his career probably like SHAQ did…)
A…:Cause the only guy to be able to dunk his way consistently to 60 points was playing 45 years ago, a man among boys…(Wilt)

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ Panagiotis Vasilopoulos

    @James the balla 9:32am…:exactly.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

That’s really myopic of you, Z.
At 10:09 am, I posted a link to that column I wrote last October, where I talked about how Kobe is probably the best player in the world. The comments were really boring and stupid, but my column was awesome. I thought I should remind everyone. Assuming it’s ever moderated, you should check it out.

  • Tom

James: Maybe he’ll prefer the scissors over the boo’s. How much you want for those tix btw?

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

I’m putting some sort of notes together right now, but it’s worth noting that Kobe came out of the tunnel looking to put a hurting on someone last night. Just happened to be the Knicks. Right place, wrong time.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Everyone keeps talking “oh, careful of the Spurs!” and “uh oh, the Spurs are gaining speed!” but it seems like they can’t beat any team, over or under .500, without taking them to OT. That doesn’t exactly bold well for a team whose average age is 58.

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ Panagiotis Vasilopoulos

Having said all these, one has to mention that M.J was making his records on the garden against Starks and a front line of Mason,Oakley,Ewing (one of the hardest to score against defences i ever saw) …. In their place Kobe was facing Duhon and a front line of Jeffries,Lee, and Harington!!!(seeing Mason and Oakley together in their prime Lee would have propably started crying….this game has changed.)Having in mind the new rules, M.J would have propably scored 90 yesterday if chalenged…

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Panagiotis, why can’t Manu ever score 60…?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Jukai’s just excited ’cause Shaq’s about to be traded.

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ Panagiotis Vasilopoulos

If healthy, Spurs will be get what they lost last year because of an injury to their best player…

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Eboy: Oh boy, ANOTHER trade, that’ll sure help the Suns, the seventh trade of the season, teams constantly changing their chemistry ALWAYS come out on top!
Unless the trade is gettng Nash and Amare out of there, I don’t really seem to care.

  • http://www.moultathletic.com bigtawly sherly

hey for allthe mamba haters out there ! he banged 61 in msg! msg! 20 from 20 from the line ! crazy ! lovely game he put together! simply beautiful ! very few times can you say that he playd withing th esystem and didnt ball hog to get “his” but he was rally passing the ball and he was in a different gear out there – just more energy than all out there ! amazing ! i wont say michel-esque but pretty close. if you havent watched kobe play and the unwasted motin to him being a complete offensive juggernaught ! PLEASE RESPECT THE HUSTLE- YOU DONT HAVE TO LIKE HIM , BUT RESPECT THE TECHNIQUE ! The dark sith lord “Darth Mambus”, is comming to your arena and is going on a barrage hat you havent seen in a very long time !!!!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Well…..when the team is told it’s going to focus on J-Rich, Nash and Stat’s skillsets and bypass the focus on Shaq in the post…..I think you KNOW where that’s going to wind up.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Panagiftofastkas Vasitlpolosusosfos, the Spurs got pretty much annihilated last year by the Lakeshow. Hypothetically, the Lakers are better this year. I don’t see how a slightly healthier (he wasn’t that injured, considering how he looked in the Olympics) Manu will really do any good. I just haven’t seen the Spurs dominating like they have done during their championship years. I know there is still some time, but they always make a STRETCH where they just blow teams out, and you say, ‘uh oh! they’re hot!’ I know the Spurs are winning, but don’t they lead the league in overtime games and game winning shots? The reason for that is because they can’t get it done normally.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Kobe fans will never get the criticism about his game. It was NEVER about his ability to get buckets. This is a guy that scored 60 in 3 quarters vs Dallas, 81 against Toronto!

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

As a non-Kobe fan myself, I don’t really see the criticism about his game after scoring 61 points on pretty much impeccable shooting. Yeah, the team gave up 117 points. That’s not on Kobe. The team has to transition to a way they played without Bynum, and that’s going to take some practices and a game or two, so Kobe was clearly in the right mindset to try and win things on his own until his team gets the hang of things again. It was New York, it was against D’Antoni, it was the best time to do it.

  • http://www.moultathletic.com bigtawly sherly

please god – help me make it through this tough time ! its cold here , but i dont care , the people love me , i really love this city , i dont want to leave, im on the block – do i really deserve this ? why did they fire my guy ? i need him? i need another star here, that wants to be here that can help me! i cant put these numbers up too much longer before i lose the hunger here- vince warned me, tmac told me, isaiah is sending me pictures of himself to me! please send me a sign … i want to stay and help this country out- i would be the first! i love you !

Anyway, time to put on a suit and talk to people I absolutely hate. See you guys.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Yeah, that was a nice cop out Farmer Jones.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Jukai, the criticism weren’t about yesterday’s performance.

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ Panagiotis Vasilopoulos

1)taking all the shoots in his team offence and playing against weak defences like the 2006 Raptors and the 2008 Knicks Manu would definitely make it over 50…now about this 60 thing i really don’t know cause …2) KOBE is better than MANU…

lucky? How about magic shooting 4-20 from 3? ( get used to those percentages come playoff time, Orlando). Go Mavs.

  • Justin

I wouldn’t worry about the Lakers giving up 117. They were playing wide open all night. There wasn’t going to be defense played if the Knicks wanted to run. When they play slower teams, the defense usually tightens up. We’ll see how they do later this week.

and i begrudgingly acknowledge Kob’s superb game against the knicks. 61 a game after the big injury. Wow! Statement to the league indeed.

  • The Seed

I read these commens. LOVE HIM OR HATE HIM, KOBE IS TOP FIVE PLAYER OF ALL TIME AND SECOND TO MJ AS SHOOTING GUARD, don’t give me no Jerry West crap. Lebron will never live up to himself, not even up to Dwade, yes i said it first. Dwade will have a better career than Lebron. The BLACK mamba went off, and for anyone to say bad for the lakers, gave up 117, the Spurs barely beat Golden no D State, went to OT. So please Laker -Kobe haters get a grip. KOBE IS MVP.

Don’t bring up the Colorado mess, we all know the facts by now, do you-guess not. Kobe is going to win two more titles, put him at 5 titles and 7 NBA finals apperances. YOu do the math. Duncan is not hyped up and plus I would pick Karl Malone over Duncan and David Robinson in his prime. Shaq is to me the biggest underachiever in the history of Basketball with 1 MVP award and only 4 titles. Now he is being shipped around like an role player, he will get traded soon. KOBE is top 5 just wait and Lebron stuff is huss huss like MJ paying off folks so if the world can’t forgive Kobe, they need to read the story of Joseph and his brothers and thats a seed planted.

The 61pts was much needed since the whole organization was shook from the Bynum news. Kobe knew that, knew that the offense might be out of sync, and knew he was playing a Mike D’Antoni team. So he put them on his back, and bought them a few more days to get used to the fact Bynum wont be in the lineup this year. I honestly don’t see him going for a monster game against Boston, because he knows better, unless he’s really feeling it.

  • http://double-technical.blogspot.com Zee!

He’s still the best, but this wouldn’t have been needed had he not taken a wild, useless foray to the basket and taken Bynum out. I’m a Laker fan all day, but I get the feeling KB may not have any juice left when the playoffs come around. Odom, Ariza, Gasol and company better step it the F up. And D’Antoni’s teams always score mad points, tha’ts what they do, so seeing them put 117 on the board isn’t suprising, they gave Boston 105 in a losing effort a little over a month ago, and the Cavs 101 in November.

Coming from a guy who hates Kobe’s guts (me): It’s ridiculous to critize a 61 points on 31 attempts performance. When his shot is going in like that, he should mos def keep shooting. So please dish out some respect for this performance. Anyway, I can’t leave without saying that I’ll still take Mike’s 55 against Ewing’s defensive minded Knicks over Kobe’s 61 against D’Antoni’s Lay-up-drill oriented Knicks anyday.

2- Euros are delusional : ‘Delfino should have come to Olympiakos this summer. He is one of the best SF’s in the world…too bad he wasted a year of his prime this way… ‘

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

Jesus. The rebounding numbers from Kobe disapoint me at least the last few games. That being said these type of scoring games will occur for at least 3 more years unless he’s playing with multiple all stars or in a different offense. As far as giving up 117 sure that’s tough but its not like the knicks aren’t leading the league in scoring or anything. (Or near the top anyway) so to me that’s being blown out of proportion. If Lamar Odom is back in the starting lineup while bynum is out I expect hios production to pick way up and gasol seems to have toughened up some since last year. Right now I like the lakers a lot.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

I thought the debate of whether this would be Kobe’s “last” 60-plus point game was funny. After all, you can count on one hand the number of players who ever had more than one 60-plus point game to begin with (and still have one finger left over—it’s Wilt, Elgin, MJ and Kobe). Furthermore, Michael Jordan had his last 60-plus point game in January of 1993 (64 points—on 49 shots—in overtime against the Magic), a month before his 30th birthday. That wasn’t exactly the end for him as a prolific scorer. Or anything else.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Oh, and just for fun, a complete list of active NBA players who have scored 60 or more points in a game: Gilbert Arenas, Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, Shaquille O’Neal, and Tracy McGrady. Kobe’s done it five times—same as Michael. He only needs to top 60 twenty-seven more times to catch Wilt.

Look, there is a legit argument that Manu is a top-10 point guard in the world. The dude’s a straight scorer, and holds himself back in the Spurs offense. So while Pan Vas overrates him, he doesn’t do it by much.
    This Delfino thing is insane.
Here is a list of small forwards who are better than Delfino (who isn’t doing very well in Europe). They are:
    1. Lebron
    2. Pierce
    3. Tayshaun
    4. Melo
    5. Rashard
    6. Hedo
    7. Rudy Gay

    29. Mike Dunlevey
    30. DANNY GRANGER
    31. Grant Hill
    32. James Posey
    33. Quenton Richardson
    34. Trevor Ariza
    35. Rudy Fernandez
    36. Marquis Daniels
    37. Wilson Chandler
    38. Thadeus Young
    39. Jamarion Moon (HE CAME OFF THE BENCH BEHIND MOON)
    40. Jeff Green
Dude averages like twelve points on BELOW 40% shooting in the Eurocup. That’s pitiful. He wouldn’t replace Bobby Simmons at this point. He had one or two above average years in Detroit and his ego inflated, and people suddenly think he’s a good player? Really?
I regret leaving Ricky Davis and Antoine Walker off that list up there.

@Jukai…:missing Siskauskas from your top-40 (!!!!) of SF’s just shows your general bball knowledge…He is top-10 in the NBA even if he never gets in the states, not even for vacation…(he is easily top-5 in the world, ask Colangelo for this)

Colangelo would be the first to admit that Siskauskas is FAR FAR away from the top-5 in the world talk, because he’s far more intelligent tha you, Pan Van, but he probably does deserve to be in a top-20 discussion of small forwards. What’s HYSTERICAL though, is that Siskauskas is mostly an ATHLETE, like Gay & Iguodala and Moon, with very little fundamental basketball training. But you’d never admit to that.
I don’t know enough about Matias Smodic to properly insult you.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Still, you’ve proven you’re still an INCREDIBLE bumbling MORON for your statement about Delfino. The dude is not producing in the second-rate Eurocup. THE EUROCUP. Not even the Euroleague here!!!
He’s averaging 10 points (less than I found on another website) on 38% shooting, 4.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2 steals (the only impressive stat he has) in 29 minutes a game.. to go with two turnovers a game! And this is in a second tier European league, cause his team could never dream of getting a Euroleague contract.
Delfino was an overrated player with a giant AMERICAN SIZED ego who thinks he’s too good for every position the guy has been in. He needed a bigger role in the Argentinian team, he needed to be a bigger part of the Raptor’s offense, he wasn’t happy on the bench in Detroit… the dude’s a huge waste, a lack of basketball intelligence wasting away in Russia.

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ Panagiotis Vasilopoulos

for better or worse you made me laugh!!! honestly, and i thank you for that (no irony)
At the same time it impressed me though that you knew that Siskauskas used to be a terrific athlete 6-7 years ago(videogames give that kind of info nowdays..??strange world….).he had even won slamdunk contests…anyway the guy became a complete player with one of the sickest 3 pointers in the world, a deadly scorer, a real winner. The best comparison i can find to his game is Kobe (complete player on offense and defence, similar size) but i think that his decline is about to start….

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ Panagiotis Vasilopoulos

saying that Siskauskas has little fundamental training is like saying that KOBE is weak at fundamentals. You are really lucky that almost nobody here knows anything about world bball cause your latest comment would have been “dumbest of all-time” material…

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

To my knowledge, Siskauskas NEVER actually learned basketball, he picked it up from the street and learned it from other players. His shot looks odd, his defense is scrappy, and quite honestly, I think he’d do better in the NBA because, sort of like Rudy Fernandez, he’s a bigger individual talent than a team talent.
Siskauskas, unlike many of the names you will throw out, is very well known to me as he’s a great player that is getting enough money to not come to the NBA. You’re VASTLY overrating him when comparing him to Kobe (I bet you anything Kobe has never heard of this cat) but he’s good.
Also, keep shying away from responding to anything about Delfino.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

damn. This is one long lasting discussion. Hey why not throw jasekivicius in there for funs sake? Would ‘ol trashtalk sneery face rank amongst the world elite at the 1 spot? Oh and leave siskaukas alone, dude is a baller extraordinaire in my book. Does whatever it takes to win games.

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ Panagiotis Vasilopoulos

@darksaber….:when i said “almost nobody” i had you in my mind.
@Jukai….:i never said that Siskauskas is equal to Kobe or compared to him. I said his game looks like Kobe’s (not like Lebron’s for example) .i thought you were a native speaker but i guess i thought wrong…i have said already enough for Delfino. He is top-10 like it or not. Funny how you insist with Siskauskas while ,judging by your comments, you have propably never seen him play….

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

ah you know, i’m a baller fanatic, annld having lived in europe, i also followed the league’s there. To be honest though, i do know slightly more about the nba, but i can hold my own in any worldballer comparison.

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ Panagiotis Vasilopoulos

don’t worry about this…there are kids here that are prompt to sustain the most absurd opinions on players they’ve never even heard of, before we mention them…

Or could give two sh*ts about.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

    E with the burrrrn.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Perhaps it’s not that I’m not a native speaker, but the fact that you’re a terrible non-native speaker. I need the Rosetta Stone to decipher your English. Yet, you’re not American, so I’ve let you off the hook with that. If you want to start thought, I can start nitpicking every grammatical error you make… then compile it into a god damn thesis paper.
But hey, I’m glad you can’t hold your own about your opinion with Delfino… You know, since his horrendous performance in the Eurocup and pretty much everywhere else backs up my opinion.
Also, it’s ridiculous to compare Kobe’s shot to Siskauskas. The former has a ridiculously night jumpshot, where his legs kick out perfectly straight and his hands are perfectly lined up with his feet… his arms also push straight out, which is really the nicest way you can shoot the J. Siskauskas, on the other hand, shoots the ball by winding it OVER his head, more similar to how Bird used to shoot jumpers. Siskauskas legs often bend, while Kobe’s always kick straight out.
And if you want to know, I saw him play in the 2000 Olympics many times, and saw a few Euro games of him on Panathinaikos in 2007 when they’d air occassionally on NBA TV. He is clearly leagues above a lot of Euro ballers, who are more team prospects instead of real talent… but top 5 in the world is retarded.
Almost as retarded as your opinions on Delfino which you can’t back up even if you could write anything resembling English.
    Done.

I mean, CARLOS DELFINO. The guy who couldn’t crack a rotation on the Pistons except in garbage time. The guy who backed up a rookie who could only dunk (Moon) and a shooting guard who can’t shoot (Parker). Hell, JASON KAPONO came off the bench before Carlos Delfino did. Too bad Delfino couldn’t prove the NBA wrong with his awful, awful performance with Khimki.
