The Vince Carter/Timmy D Show?

by Marcel Mutoni

Vince Carter’s name will be in trade rumors – and he fully accepts this – all the way up to the Deadline this Thursday, and one of the more compelling destinations for the artist formerly known as Half Man/Half Amazing, would be in San Antonio.

Tim Duncan, his would-be teammate, was asked by the local press for his thoughts on the possibility of playing with Vince.

From the San Antonio Express-News:

Duncan says he would love to have Carter as a teammate, and why not? At age 32, Carter remains one of the NBA’s most productive small forwards, averaging 20.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists. Duncan hedges when the price for Carter reportedly includes Roger Mason Jr., Bruce Bowen, George Hill and Fabricio Oberto.

“I’d hate to see that many guys go,” Duncan said.

[...]

“The point of my deal was to try and get a high-caliber free agent in that year,” Duncan said. “I tried to clear some cap space so we could use it.”

Carter, even at age 32, still qualifies as a high-caliber use of such flexibility. Knowing teams that seek to leapfrog the Spurs on their way to the top of the West are losing sleep counting the ways Carter, Duncan, Parker and Ginobili could cause them nightmares is reason enough for Duncan to rest easy.

Gotta love Trade Deadline week.

the lineup of Ginobili, Duncan, Parker, and maybe Carter would be hella scary for the rest of the west but the loss of mason jr would hurt a lot allinall I hope this does happen

didnt read the comments to make sure but, has anyone else heard the chandler to OKC for wilcox and joe smith?

1.Mason isn’t future of the franchise good but he’s a good/great role player, one of the best role players in the NBA
2.I just came up with this one in my head, but the perfect trade 4 the Spurs would be Tayshuan Prince, if they can get him at a reasonable Price(without parting with any of the Big Three, or the Spurs 3 best role players Mason, bonner and Hill)the Spurs would get a great defensive player, and the Spurs wouldn’t need to worry about getting rid of Bruce Bowen, also, Prince can play post, which would give the spurs an inside presence to complement the Big Fundamental, and if the Spurs want him too, he can also play at the 3 where they would be left a little shallow after getting rid of Bowen, and Prince can also knock down the 3

Just been on espn.com (i got bored)says the Hornets are soon going to confirm that they are trading Tyson Chandler to the Hornets for Joe Smith and Chris Wilcox

  • Prison Mike

    Do it.

Trading for Carter makes sense for the Spurs. Taking on his ridiculous contract doesn’t make sense for anyone.

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

    it won’t happen.

  • Richie

    Roger Mason Jr is overrated.

Ciolkstar: Agreed on the Bowen thing. I don’t think Bowen’s “talents” really translate that well on another team; on any other team he might be the 12th man. But on the Spurs he’s a key player. Kinda like how Foreman is stuck with House.

  • Uzi

    highly unlikely…

Pretty much cosign Josh D at 1:17. Would much rather have Sheed, if anyone. But I’m pretty attached to all the guys, especially the future with George Hill. They can have Ime Udoka. How bout that?

Goddamn I love me some trade deadline.

  • MalevolentKing7242

Bad trade. I say trade bowen and finley. mason and hill are 2 young guys they are really going to need to keep this franchise going. Sides SA could use more excitement and youth.

There is ZERO chance of winning the championship for the Spurs this trade goes through.

  • kingofsota

The spurs would lose most of their bench production and the nets would be building to be a contender in the future. Being somewhat of a spurs fan, I say that this is a terrible trade.

  • RWallace

VC for Mason Jr. and/or Hill? Makes sense. Spurs will get a better chance to compete for the title this year. As for giving up young role players… The Spurs organization seems to always find a lot of guys that nobody wants and produces for them so it’s not a big deal, but heck what do I know. Sheed to Spurs would be crazy though. Make that one happen instead!

  • simoun

it would be nice if carter went to san antonio, but not good if they lose mason and hill.

    i would say 50/50.

  • BostonBaller

It may nor happen but it would be kind of fun to watch. Vince would have open looks since TD gets doubled. Can you imagine the highlights with VC cutting through the lane and getting passes from Parker, TD & Manny? With TD getting doubled and the wings trying to keep an eye on VC, Manny will have an open lane or 2 to fly through. Vince also hits big game winners so Mason wouldn’t be missed THAT much.

Like I said, it would be fun to watch. Kobe vs VC in a 7 game series ..entertaining…Stern might make it happen. lol

  • ron

hope this idea will be implemented.
the trade will be worthy for Vince, Duncan, the League and fanz.

  • MeloMan13

unless they play the Raptors in every round this trade will not help them

  • data187

the nets will cut bowen and oberto after the trade, so they are only giving up mason and hill.

as good as mason and hill are, they are not all-star level talents.

vc is and even at his age, he can still single-handedly win 1 or 2 games in a 7 game series.

  • marsino

Im a huge spurs fan and I would love to see them get vince carter. But the thing about the spurs is they need to get younger and when you get younger you dont get younger by giving up roger mason jr and geroge hill. If Im the spurs you need to try and keep either roger mason or george hill.

  • tom

Bowen isn’t even starting this season. He’s a great defender, but he is over the hill (no pun intended) in basketball years and is tradable. When Mason is on, he’s on. He’s great to have around in the last 3 seconds of a tie game, but some of those games shouldn’t even be as close as they are in the first place. Oberto’s tradable, and I don’t think many people would disagree. I know the Spurs want another Parker in George Hill, but Parker’s one of the youngest guys on the team…I don’t believe he’s going anywhere for a while. Hill’s a great bench player to have for the Spurs in my opinion, but I don’t think they’ll win a championship with out either a solid big man or Vince Carter. Carter’s got hops and could still relieve some of the pressure from Duncan that a big man could.

  • SpursFan

it would be a great team if vince was in, but as for the bench it would be awful and the roster would be very small. good thing the trade didn’t go thru
