Trade: Morrison to L.A.; Vlad Rad to Charlotte

by Marcel Mutoni

As of today, Adam Morrison and his wispy mustache are headed to the City of Angels in exchange for Vladimir Radmanovich. The throw-in in the deal is Shannon Brown.

More from the LA Timesreport:

The Lakers today traded forward Vladimir Radmanovic, 29, to the Charlotte Bobcats for two third-year players, forward Adam Morrison and guard Shannon Brown.

Overall, the deal will save the Lakers more than $8 million in salary cap space over the next two seasons. “We feel we picked up two players that could have upside,” Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak said. “We pick up some flexibility down the road with a shorter commitment vs. Vlade’s commitment.”

The financials make perfect sense for the Lakers, but basketball-wise, this changes next to nothing. The only reason this is even worth a mention is the fun that will be watching and reading about the relationship between Phil Jackson and Adam Morrison.

Larry Brown’s head, by the way, just exploded.

Sun Yue should get more playing time!

haha, why must adam mirrison, why not gerald wallace

Bet is absolutely correct. Gaz…not so much.

turiaf, now vlad. if i were a lakers fan, i wouldnt be comfortable with josh powell and adam morrison getting any kind of minutes

  • jay

huge kobe fan! looks like luke and ariza will be getting major minutes..i hope adam morrision and his dumb mustache enjoy the sitting..as for brown…where does he play…d league??? save money…great!

@Sesa How is Vlad going to get PT? The same way Morrison was starting with Crash out – by default.

  • Gaz

Rad Vad’s filthy gooch hair >>>> Hursty

  • daniel

maybe the lakers are trying to dismantle the bobcats so they bobcats will stop beating them

  • Teddy-the-Bear

HEY SLAM! Great night for The Post Up or Line of the Night!!! First, the duel between Yao Ming and Al Beasterson. Then the 38 points from Rich Hamilton in 36 minutes, while Iverson finishes with 27 points and 9 assists! Sheed had 27 and Prince had 9 assists! I’m not a Pistons fan, but those are some NICE team numbers!

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

    Gaz=…not worth commenting on.
Teddy- duel? Al owned everything in the 1st half, while Yao hit pretty much nothing. Different story in the 2nd half though. Al started to miss and Yao hit something like 12/14 from the floor.

I’d rather ride the pine in L.A. than in Charlotte.

  • I am the walrus

Finally, DJ Mbenga’s time to shine…

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ Hursty: Duel, as in they both totally kicked @ss. I guess that sort of makes sense.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Duel of the halves?

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Yeh duel of the halves. The fact that AL *only* had 36 surprised me. Yao’s 30 were also really, really quiet.
He made the right passes out of the double almost every single time. Shooters were locked in tonight as well. Rafer brought his rifle- something he usually forgets when there’s gonna be a shootout. T-mac was solid too offensively. Not just with shots, but with his game overall.
Al was just…unstoppable? in the 1st quarter. 17/8…wow.

  • ktokyo

@ daniel: LOL! Nice one. and I’m a Lakers fan. This is definitely sad though. Vlad’s an awesome person. Hate to see him go. But I really can’t see either of these dudes helping the Lakers. I was thinking they would trade Bynum for another decent big and go for it this year. Apparently they’re just looking for cap space…

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ SPANOULIS

the most charismatic-talented big man of the last 15 years had his number retired yesterday and not even a mention here….strange. If i remember correct the guy had 4 SLAM covers…anyway, people forget quite easy which is sometimes bad (CW4) and other times great (stockmarket!).
CHRIS WEBBER we will remember you for ever!!!(although you never maximized your phenomenal potential….)

  • KoBynum716

do u guys not realize that morrison has never had an opportunity? IF he gets any playing time, he will almost always be open because of the double teams on kobe or pau, and he’ll have his chance to prove himself. we all know if he cant deliver, phil will have no problem benching his ass. and all u powell haters need to stop. he is better than turiaf ever was for much less of a contract. nothing is expected of him, so all he’s been doing is his job, backin up odom and hittin his solid 6,7 points with like 3,4 rebounds. nothing else is expected of him so noone can say anything negative about that. as for vlad, he will be missed, but u gotta do wut u gotta do. gettin pau was genius, maybe morrison and brown will be too, we can only wait and see. stop hating!

  • j4zz m4n

why oh why? the moustache and an average guard…are you serious?

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

I think phil just wanted both his sons on the same team with him: pau and morrison look like him just that little too much.

  • http://courtsidebasketball.blogspot.com/ stu

great trade for la – ‘we’ only got rid of radman, who’s regressed from his sonics days to a role player no better than morrison anyways, IMO. so radman for morrison is a complete wash, if you compare the players they both are today.

this is why i do not have a clue what the bobcats are doing (BET, holla!) – say we agree that morrison/vlad is a wash (although i bet we don’t!!) la get brown and cash.. which is a combo guard…and money… and the bobcats get back vladimir radmanovic. raise the banner!
the ever hopeful part of my brain wants to believe that this is phase one of getting amar’e to charlotte.

radman and diaw to phx for amar’e, straight up. terry porter, finally realising that diaw needs the ball more to be productive, changes up the offense to accomodate, and steve kerr gets to half undo a trade to get back a player he has said he misses (if i read between the lines correctly) and also adds a serviceable bench shooter in radmanovic.
the cats then have a starting 5 of okafor, amar’e, wallace, bell and felton., and finally enough of a draw card to build upon for a positive future. yes, i’m dreaming.
this time of year is awesome!

  • simoun

wtf?!!!! morrison is like so lucky being traded to a playoff and one of the best teams in the l!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One thing to say: if Phil Jackson made BJ Armstrong an all-star, he can make Adam Morrison the MV-mofkin-P.

    Bombs away, Ammo.

  • underdog

I still think Shannon Brown could be a solid bench player if he gets a certain role and some minutes. Furthermore Morrison and Sasha on the same team is going to be more than weird.

  • Bulldog

Why do the Lakers trade 6’10″ 3 point big man semi-defensive threat for mediocrity with a moustache and Shannon who? Pass the Pepto Bismol-gurgle-gurgle-gurgle.

  • http://sportzin.com Joey E.

semi-defensive is pushing it. Vlad has one of the worst bball IQ’s of all-time also

  • MalevolentKing7242

So LA got a good decent defensive player and a guy who is a draft bust but has nice hair… I think la got the better luke and ariza will get more time and maybe AM will do good who knows

  • je708

vlad must have been messing with team chemistry, hopefully morrison can shup up and play his role

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

since the post up doesnt exsist anymore: RAMMON SESSIONS!!

  • Karen

U give up shyt and you get shyt back…thats how i see this trade for both teams….I am not bashing either of this players ..but if you are #3 draft pick you should have done a much better job than what he has done so far…and if you are playing a long side kobe and the laker show ..u also should have done more than just lie about going to snowboarding.
Vlade will give you 3 pointers …but inconsistent other than that its a bonus…Dont expect rebound,Defense or post up game. In the other hand i am HOPING Adam will have a better career in lakers than the one he had in Bobcats. Since he will be along side kobe and pau…there shouldnt be any pressure on him and it should work out well. And what all he doesnt have confidence stuff….he better get that right before kobe and PJX eats him alive.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Hmmmmmm. Talk about escalation bias – i.e. compounding a mistake by committing to it even more in hopes it’ll turn around. From the Bobcats games I saw when Adam was a rookie, it seemed like the team as a whole was trying too hard to get him to score, letting him play more than he deserved, and chuck up lots of shots. Even Yi Jianlian (with his “guaranteed” minutes) put up better, more efficient numbers than Adam in his rookie season. The Lakers won’t make the same mistake, but the odds are Walton will fill Vlad’s spot and Morrison’ll probably languish on the bench lots.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Rad Vlad is 6’10 but he doesn’t know how to post up?

  • j-smoov 5

…Hopefully Adam will do better here…Especially since he’ll be learning from Kobe.

  • Syk

I wonder if Morrison will match up against Luke in practice lol

  • Melo Man TO

Shanon brown is crazy athletic and a pretty gud defender for an undersized two-guard. my question is How does this benifit the bobcats?
To me, this just looks like the Lakers ripping off yet another under achieving team

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Melo Man- we needed a small forward, we got a small forward. And to all those that say ‘Adam just didnt have confidence because he was a Bobcat’ or ‘Kobe will teach him’ my answer is that he has lost his confidence in the ability to play the game, not the ability to be on a team.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

D-Wade is MURDERING the Bobcats now. yucky

  • connor m

congrats charlotte, you now have a small forward thats as tall as your center but can’t play defense or rebound. good job LA, way to keep stocking the bench with guys that will be 3rd stringers.

  • wilz

so adam morrison gets a ring? ineteresting

  • stokesey

    i miss ronny turiaf…:(

  • Myung

If you’re a Lakers fan and miss Ronny Turiaf… don’t you have his identical clone? Same jersey # and hairstyle? Only thing Josh Powell is missing is the underbite.

  • Myung

The Lakers clearly just wanted another American white player on their roster.

  • Myung

If you watched the Hawks-Bobcats game (and if you didn’t, I can’t blame you) Friday night, Shannon Brown basically cost the Bobcats the game on Friday night. There was NO WAY the Hawks should’ve won that game. We had every reason to lose it, and Shannon Brown handed the W to us. Then he gets traded the next day. I suppose going from LA as “punishment” isn’t a bad thing. BTW, I remember reading about Brown in SLAM about 6 years ago. Wasn’t he up there with Chris Paul and LeBron back in high school?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

My, how the mighty have fallen. Adam Morrison, we hardly knew ye.

  • http://www.myspace.com/winstonandthetelescreen.com Winston and the Telescreen

    Great trade for both teams
right now Vlade is a huge upgrade over Morrison for the Cats, hes a much higher quality of player than his stats show, Lakers now have Ariza who will be taking up most of that time and Luke Walton is just a triangle offense savant, on any other team Vlade is better than Luke-but for the Lakers Luke is more valuable
The most important thing the Lakers are getting is MONEY, a decent amount back cause we gave Vlade a fat contract, the trade would be good for the Lakers for the cash alone but its an added bonus to have Brown because we’re nervous about Derek logging so many minutes in case of another Farmar injury, plus he should be defensive help for minutes at a time, Sun Yue is not adding anything right now, Morrison is the throw in because he wont play at all this year, but if he spends this year learning the triangle he could possibly be a contributor next year, someday he might even be a good player, but if not who cares? the Lakers dont need him, he would just be a nice bonus if he ever materialized

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

“Shannon Brown basically cost the Bobcats the game on Friday nigh” Exactly.

  • http://www.kayceonline.com/blog/ Kevin

…why would the Bobcats do this :/

  • MeloMan13

@ BETCats: isn’t Gerald Wallace a desent Small forward?. and if hes injured, do u really think Vlad is a legit starter?

  • http://www.hw-event-hosting.de h-dub

No Doubt the Lakers will win it all this year. Would not surprise me, if Morrison will play a big Role. I still think that the Lakers will go after Shawn Marion as well !!!
