Trade: Tyson Chandler to the Thunder

by Marcel Mutoni

Besieged by injuries all season long, Tyson Chandler’s year has just gone from crappy to ultra-crappy.

Welcome to Oklahoma City, Tyson. We hope you enjoy your stay here. From Thunder Ramblings:

The Thunder has acquired center Tyson Chandler from New Orleans in exchange for Chris Wilcox and Joe Smith, according to a league source with knowledge of the negotiations.

The Thunder will also include the draft rights to Devon Hardin, the 50th overall pick in the 2008 draft.

As Wilcox and Smith are both set to come off the books this summer, this can reasonably be classified as a cash-saving move for the Hornets.

Thoughts?

@Dark – injuries. Tyson, D West, CP3, Morris Peterson, Hilton Armstrong, they’ve all missed time.

Damn. Just when you thought everything was changing.

  • http://www.myspace.com/hemantsbeats what

OKC is quickly becoming one of the most fun to watch teams in the league.

what; co-sign – been saying this since the beginning of the season. And it will only get better when they ship Earl Watson’s ugly face out of there.

    OOOOOO MANNN
    NBA 2K9–OKC…GONNA BE CRAZYY

one lob does not a championship make, well cp3 i guess the day of the 26 lob passes is over
now you can pick and pop or give and go with chris wilcox , he is a beast down low. tyson
i know it was that picture of you on the skate half pipe with your vans on
memo to players: don’t wear your vans around the coach /practice you will get traded to a lottery team see; vlad rad /tyson chandler for co sign/concur

  • Scott

What is this guy talking about “ultra-crappy?” He fails to mention that Durant is the most talented young player in the game, and that Westbrook might be rookie of the year. Jeff Green averages almost 17ppg AND they hold 5 first round picks in 2 years. These guys are gonna be sick in the next couple years with Chandler.

  • dpak

a motivated chris wilcox is better than chandler.

  • thebigticket05

    KD all the way baby

I’m going to breakup this party and report a rumor I just heard on the radio:
Wally Sczdfgbbfrff to the Wiz for Jamison and Etan Thomas.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

TAD: how’s the salary match on that rumor?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

I just checked it and the trade actually works. I heard it on the John Thompson radio show and he has good connections in DC and on the Wizards, so it seems like a good rumor.

  • riggs

    @TAD:…….whoa.

  • http://nbacheapseats.blogspot.com Chendaddy

wow, way to break up the best pick and roll since happy steve nash and happy amare stoudemire (last seen early feb. 2008). it’s a little puzzling that they gave up on chandler as part of their core when he’s been injured all year. who do they think they’re going to pick up in the off-season to replace the interior defense? definitely agree that they made a huge mistake signing posey when they should’ve addressed their lack of depth at 1 and 5. i think chandler’s great for okc. he is a very underrated post defender who doesnt gamble on blocks like marcus camby does. but can russell westbrook get him involved in the offense like chris paul could? and seriously, isnt chandler, jeff green, and kevin durant the skinniest front line in the nba? who’s going to bang with the carlos boozers and dwight howards of the world?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Izzo

Does him now being on the same team as Chris Paul, allowing him to bask in CP3′s sacred glow of contagious greatness, make Chris Wilcox a shoe-in for 2010 Superbowl MVP?I think so.

  • Caleb

@Lz – if you doubt Chandler’s defense all you have to do is look at the Hornets this year with Chandler in the lineup and with Chandler out of the lineup. With Chandler playing, the Hornets allowed the fewest points in the paint per league. With Chandler out, it wasn’t even close.

As a Hornets fan I want to be optimistic, but I’m pretty upset right now.

  • donlaker

chris wilcox looks like he could get a first down on a short yardage play

  • vmcb

dayum. OKC looks to have a much improved starting line-up once Chandler is healthy enough to play.

  • Caleb

    *in the league.

Wow. If Wally for Jamison and Etan Thomas goes down it’ll be an even bigger steal than Pau Gasol last season, largely because it will actually work. I actually hate those kinds of deals and think they’ll have to be adressed in the next collective bargaining agreement. I mean that deal would be a total coup, and make the Cavs into HUGE favorites.

  • donlaker

    with antwan,
the cavs will smoke the celtics like some blueberry kush

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

I hear ya LZ, in terms of Chris Paul helping Chadler’s offensive game, but I just think his role will be to score on putbacks and the occasional oop. His real impact should be on defense and rebounding and even running the floor. And the kid excuse is not one he made publicly but has been reported. Also, I wish Wilcox was a decent NBA player, but he’s just not. The Hornets ownership is crap and I could see CP3 shutting it down if he gets another little injury towards the end of the season. And likely peacing out once his deal is up if this is how they react to a slightly underwhelming season.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

    @ciolkstar: my sentiment exactly.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

    regarding to the jamison trade.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

”a more atheletic David West w/o a jumper” what does that even mean?!
TAD, whoa Jamison… Wallace basically has to to sit down. I’d start Andy V. Bring in Jamison as the 6th. JJ would be the 4th big. Jamison is a legit bucket-getter. He could even spare LBJ at the 3 for 5-10 mins a game. Whoa.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Who am I kidding?! Jamison would start, no doubt. So that’s Mo-Delonte-Bron-Jamison-Z. Andy, Sasha, Boobie, JJ and Ben (in that order) off the bench. Whoa.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

It means that Chris wilcox is more atheletic than David west but can’t shoot as well. Seems pretty clear to me…

  • Sarah

Praise Jesus. I can rest easy knowing that I will no longer be subjected to multiple Paul to Chandler alley-oops that leave Tim Duncan standing dazed under the basket every time the Spurs & Hornets meet. Happy Birthday to me!

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

@Sarah: that’s exactly what i had in mind when i mention about big guys having to guard the oop. without that weapon, i think the hornets would have lost in 5 games last playoffs to the spurs.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

i know what it means, ciolkstar. what i was implying (in a smart-ass way) is that they don’t have anything in common besides the color of their skin and the position they play.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

The only reason I used West in the comparison is because he’s on the team that Wilcox is being traded to. They’re both undersized 4s.

  • CHE

what the hell is new orleans thinking? This is retarded.
Side note i am on the phone with some guy from india who can’t speak english and is getting mad at me for not being able to understand me. If you are going to work in american learn the dayum language.

  • JOE

    BAD MOVE…. JUST BAD.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Since when being 6’9-6’10 is considered undersized at the 4-spot?! Anyways, that’s neither here nor there. It must suck to be a NO fan today.

  • aotearaw

    Free Sean Marks!!!

  • http://www.ravingblacklunatic.blogspot.com Allenp

    CHE
It’s called outsourcing, ever heard of it?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Izzo

    CHE:”Gaad,can’t you people speak American?”.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

David west might be listed as 6-9 but he’s closer to 6’8″ and has short arms/no hops. Wilcox can block some shots but is not as physical as West. If you put both guys together you’d have a pretty good starting PF.

  • Sarah

@albie1kenobi: Oh yeah, they now scare me (as a Spurs fan) much less than they did after that 7 game series last year. When you think of how many oops he got every game — and how many easy points that translates to — it is a big loss for CP3 and his boys.

  • Todd Spehr

Just had to point this out, but The Oklahoman is today asking the question as to who has the brighter future: Hornets or Thunder. Think about it… it’s not as easy as it seems.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

AllenP and CHE, at it again. Not to be rude but from reading CHE’s comments he could probably stand to spend a little more time brushing up on his “American”.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

It is pretty easy and the answer is the THUNDER. Besides CP3 the Hornets don’t have anything. They still don’t sellout many games and they’re not a big enough media market to make much off of TV/licensing/etc… They are just CP3 and some also-rans.
OKC might be a sh!thole but atleast their frontoffice is putting an enteratining product out on the floor and building towards the future. Their fanbase is already a lot better than the one in New Orleans. The Thunder also have a bunch of future 1st rounders coming up. I could see CP3 leaving as soon as his deal is up if this is the way the Hornets deal with adversity.

  • http://sportcetera.blogspot.com/ LeoneL

    Why oh why?

  • http://www.kicksonfire.com Anton

    LOL @ Michael NZ
    @ Hornets: *facepalm*

  • Caleb

As long as the Hornets have CP3 – the future is still incredibly bright. But this still really really sucks.

  • Stargazey

The ESPN dude predicted this almost exactly.

  • CHE

Allenp it’s called america sending jobs overseas instead of giving it to their own people. I know exactly what it is and I hate it.

damn all the little spell checkers in here. God forbid someone have spelling errors on a blog. lol
