Your Dunk Contest Judges …

… Are all former Suns players: “Saturday’s 2009 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest will have a decidedly Suns feel to it. All-Star Saturday’s annual jamming exhibition will be judged by a cast of celebrated former Suns standouts. Ring of Honor members and former All-Stars in their day, Kevin Johnson, Dan Majerle and Tom Chambers, will be on hand to grade the contestants’ dunks. In addition to those players, Larry Nance and Cedric Ceballos, who both took home dunk contest titles to Phoenix as Suns, will be seated in the judges’ chairs as well.”

some cities have huge legend judges, some cities go for a hometown flavor. phoenix is of the latter.

  • Scott

Pretty good choices, can’t complain… one of the better franchises for past dunk contestants

Ceballos should watch the proceedings through a blindfold.

  • Scott

Would’ve been cool to see either J-Rich or Amar’e as a current Suns player/former participant judge (even Shaq for that matter, just to see his reaction!)

I’m glad KJ can take time away from his busy mayor job. Sacramento must love that.

I like this, nice touch. And oh yeah, someone get Chuck up in that mix, dude was a dunking fiend as well and his short stint in Phoenix was fantastic.

the contest itself also has two former suns (technically): fernandez and robinson.

  • Prison Mike

Are the fans voting agian this year? That would suck.

    Thunder Dan!

  • riggs

  • donlaker

did tom chambers ever dunk the ball…
and i hope thunder dan knocks some dunk contestants shoes off a table(dawkins vs gerald green 08)

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Ask Marc Jackson if Tom Chambers ever “dunked the ball”.

  • tenorca

Did Tom Chambers ever dunk the ball? Come ON! He has one of the most monsterous dunks of all time over John Starks, the one where he gets his knees on Starks’ shoulders and is nearly headhigh to the rim when he throws it down. He was an absolute mammal.

  • tenorca

My bad—Darksaber’s right. I get my Knicks PGs confused, it seems.

Penny, Starbury, and Kidd will judge with their scowls.

Darksaber: I can give you so many reasons why Chuck isn’t judging the all-star game, but let me just sum it up by saying he’s too busy still tryin’ to get that blowjob!

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Also, it’s very clear that you have no idea who Tom Chambers is, Darksaber.

  • http://double-technical.blogspot.com Zee!

A Richard Dumas mention…wow. And Larry Nance will be asked if he can still dunk two balls at once, amidst snickers from the other judges.

i would have thought ceballos would be at lake havasu for all star weekend

Good thing none of the suns are in the dunk contest

Juks: surely you jest? I do not know who Tom Chambers is? Check my 11.53am response to donlaker before claiming stuff, buddy. You know i gots the fever, the Basketball fever. I know everything that’s happened in the Nba since 1988 (photographic memories tend to be a pain in the nuts at times) and have read about the Nba before that.

Unless you were being sarcastic, Jukai, then…. good one.

  • chintao

@ Scott Posted: Feb.12 at 10:22 am ==> Don’t worry. I’m sure that Shaq will be there courtside, cooning it up for the cameras.

…and a single tear rolled down Rex Chapman’s cheek.

  • http://hoops4life.com overtime

Great lineup…interesting q i wonder if anyone can answer?
Which franchise has the most Saturday night Champions all-time? (as in 3-point and dunk contest, because no-one cares about the others)

  • Blinguo

Rex Chapman would have been dope, but they probably can’t find the guy.

  • MeloMan13

good thing thers no Russian judge

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com nbk

Is this the first time since like 93 that Dr. J is not a judge?

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com nbk

Overtime – my guess would be Miami or Chicago,
Jordan had 2 Dunks Contest, and Craig Hodges and Steve Kerr won the 3 point a total of 4 times
And the Heat had/have- Harold Miner, Jason Kapono, Glenn Rice. I still think its Chicago though

  • Prison Mike

Dr J and Kenny Smith were the worst judges ever. Dr J never gave 10′s and Kenny fixed the 2006 dunk contest so Nate and Iggy would have to go overtime.

  • GMATCallahan

K.J. wasn’t taking time away from being Mayor; it was a Saturday night.
