Amar’e’s Season is Officially Over

by Marcel Mutoni

Only perhaps the most irrepressibly hopeful of Suns fans expected to see STAT back on the court sometime this year, and that dream has met a swift death: Amar’e will see you next season, according to the guy who operated on his eye.

Stoudemire’s surgeon says the forward isn’t going to be able to return to the hardwood for the postseason.

From the Arizona Republic:

The out-for-the-season diagnosis for forward AmarĂ© Stoudemire initially left a sliver of hope that the Suns star could return for the playoffs should they qualify. Out means out. And “season” means, “See you next season.”

“Not this season, not at all,” said Dr. Pravin Dugel, the Valley eye surgeon who operated on Stoudemire’s detached retina two weeks ago. “The Suns have the same goal - to make sure he can resume his career. It’s very difficult to explain to anyone how serious this is. It’s more serious than any knee or ankle surgery. The healing is excruciatingly slow and delicate.”

That doesn’t sound like a whole lot of fun.

As for the Suns and their fans, there’s a silver lining in all of this (kind of): right now, the team isn’t even in the Playoff race. So, you’ve got that going for you.

Officially should have kept the goggles, D’oh.

  • ciolkstar Posted: Mar.6 at 11:46 am
Wow, I was gonna make a joke about Stat needing to find an eyepatch and get back out there, but this really does seem like a pretty painful and drawn out recovery he’s going to have to go through. Get well some Amare!
I really do like Gentry though, TAD. He should be around next season, if only because their players are playing hard for him

thats unfortunate. I wish Amare the best in his recovery.

  • Anton Posted: Mar.6 at 1:02 pm
He could have avoided it if he wore the goggles. Shame.

  • JESSEG Posted: Mar.6 at 1:02 pm
Man this sucks! Over the years the Suns have gotten their hearts torn out and now people are taking out their eyes too. It’s only fitting.

The cells in your eyes have to heal by osmosis since there is no direct flow of blood to them, that’s what takes so long, or so I was told.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Mar.6 at 4:30 pm
they werent going to the playoffs with him.

  • jonny Posted: Mar.6 at 4:42 pm
Time to declare amare injury prone?

  • mat smith Posted: Mar.6 at 5:09 pm

  • al Posted: Mar.6 at 5:10 pm
    somewhere Horace Grant is laughing….

  • BostonBaller Posted: Mar.6 at 5:13 pm
ciolkstar, they could have played in their sleep and played harder for Gentry than they did Porter. lol. Did they hate defense that much? I guess they will be stuck w/ STAT for a while since a lot of teams will be even more cautious when thinking of trading for him.

  • Wongtouski Posted: Mar.6 at 7:14 pm
Feel bad for him, but now he can go work on post moves and defense………….with one eye lol

  • john Posted: Mar.6 at 8:36 pm

    Suns year is o-v…

I hope Amare Stoudemire feels alot better! The suns really needed him. But i think Grant Hill and Leandro Barbosa and LOUIS AMUNDSON have to step up. The suns have a big chance of getting playoff spot but there windows closing really quick with Grant and Nash being 36 and Shaq being 37 and also the suns should get some big wins , they have a stacked team , Matt Barnes , Leandro who can score on a fast break , Nash has to get his old playing back , GrantHill a lockdown defender , Shaq a power in the Post , and also Louis Amundson , he can hustle of defence very well , so in my point i think this team has a chance and also another explosive scorer Jason Richardson , and Jared Dudley , and the back-up point guard Gragic , im telling you guys its not over for the suns yet! They have a good team. Gentry just has to find a way to play them right without A’mare Stoudemire.

  • low powered attorney Posted: Mar.7 at 10:16 pm
So you could call Amare’s eye injury Zydrunas Ilgauskas?

  • NBA-JERSEY-KING Posted: Mar.8 at 4:19 pm
I still think the Grizzlies should have traded have traded Rudy Gay for Amare….

  • Dacre Posted: Mar.8 at 8:46 pm
this season has been crap for SUNS fans… :(

  • CP34MVP Posted: Mar.9 at 7:28 am
i hope they can still get into the playoffs.
