Carmelo Anthony is Hungry

Hungry for that elusive Playoff series win: “For Anthony, winning a playoff series is one of the few things not on his resume. Even more troubling, the Nuggets are a pathetic 4-20 in the playoffs during Anthony’s tenure, although he did miss one loss as a rookie in 2004 due to a knee injury. ‘Any great player is based upon what they do in the playoffs,’ Anthony said. ‘As far as being a great basketball player, scoring and just being a top player in the league, playoff success is the only thing I’m missing. (Winning a series is) very important to me. That’s my goal. That’s what I want to achieve. My time will come.’ Anthony believes there’s a very good chance it will come this season. ‘I’m starving,’ said Anthony, who believes the Nuggets can beat any team in a playoff series. ‘I can taste it. It’s right there. We have a big opportunity I think we can make some noise with this team right here, and I think this is the year we can do it. We got a better team. We got guys who know what it takes…We’re just a totally better team than we had in the past.’”

having billups on your team would really up’d your chances in the playoffs, not hating on iverson but billups gives them a more real threat in the playoffs

  • Holy Baller Posted: Mar.31 at 12:55 pm
To which Eddie Curry replies, “Don’t talk to me about being hungry.”

As far as being a great basketball player, scoring and just being a top player in the league, playoff success is the only thing I’m missing

Melo in a nutshell. 1) Getting buckets = being a great player. 2) He thinks he’s one of the top players in the league but he’s not a year-in year-out all star yet 3) A few things is missing : maturity, leadership, conditioning, court vision, defense.

I think Melo is a terrific talent but his mindset ain’t right.

  • Mendel Posted: Mar.31 at 1:48 pm
Your NOT and ALL STAR. taste that.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Mar.31 at 2:38 pm
    Tracy McGrady 2.0?

  • ciolkstar Posted: Mar.31 at 3:10 pm
Um, Okay, so everyone here thinks Melo ISNT a top player in the league? Is “2 TIME ALL STAR(!)” David West a better player than Melo? He has consecutive All Star appearances and playoff series wins. Yeah. I didn’t think so. If Melo was on the Hornets instead of West, they’d probabaly be working with homecourt in the first round. Chauncey’s been great and not to blame it all on Iverson, but the Nuggets improvement has really been addition by subtraction.

  • Mendel Posted: Mar.31 at 3:38 pm
If you subtact melo g-d knows how much addition the team will get

  • Z Posted: Mar.31 at 3:38 pm
I love when people start an argument with themselves to prove a point. Who said that West was better than Melo? You’re not part of the NBA’s elite if you’re not a year in year out all star. Period. End of. LeBron, Kobe, D-Wade, Dwight, Duncan, Garnett, CP3.. that’s the elite of the NBA. They’re not even thinking about the ASG, it’s just a part of their season.

  • MeloMan13 Posted: Mar.31 at 4:16 pm
Melo should definaetly b a year in year out allstar and if it werent for some sticky situations he would b. hes been in the league for 6 years and has made it twice. he didnt make it rookie year bcause aperently thats the law, got snaked the next 2 years thanks to heavy competition among west forwards (ie. Garnett, Duncan, Amare, Dirk), got into the brawl the next year and this year he was injured for the majority off the first half of the season.
If carmelo was drafted in the east he would be an all star every year

  • Anton Posted: Mar.31 at 4:23 pm
ciolkstar can’t grasp the reality that Melo sucks.

  • whooo! Posted: Mar.31 at 4:26 pm
Russ, i’ve been thinking the same thing. Carmelo really is the new T-Mac. incredibly scoring that at tiimes makes him look like the best in the league, but man that dude can’t win in the playoffs. btw, how many of those losses were against san antonio?

  • Z Posted: Mar.31 at 5:07 pm
If LeBron, Wade and Dwight were drafted in the West, they’d be all stars every year. Those elite players, they’re so all star worthy…

  • ciolkstar Posted: Mar.31 at 5:42 pm
The All Star process for voting is so flawed that I just don’t think its an acceptable means of measuring or categorizing who the elite players are in the L. The reason I brought up DWest is because he’s a perfect example of how the ASG isn’t about showcasing the elite talents as much as it has become a reward for the best teams in the league. Lack of playoff success is a far more vaild criticism of Melo IMO, and even that argument has some holes; check out how many times the Nuggs caught the Spurs in the first round. This will be the first year his team will (probably) be the higher seed/favored to win. And people who think Melo sucks obviously just don’t watch him play or are blinded by the sociopolitical implications of his “persona”. He may not have been an all star every season, but a couple years were acknowledged snubs and this years had more to do with injuries and the newfound code of “team success before all else” even when it comes to ASGs and ROYs (which is a joke IMO) Whatever, this is exhausting. But I bet he gets 40+ in the Garden tonight, and 50 wouldn’t surprise me at all.

  • MeloMan13 Posted: Mar.31 at 6:17 pm
@ Z: all im sayin is that i dont think D wade and Bron would have been all stars as many time nor do i think they would have the team success that they have had if they were in the west. im 100 % sure that Lebron, wade, and dwight wouldnt have gotten out of the first round either if they drew the Spurs 2wice, the Lakers, or the T-wolves when Kg was due

  • L33tSauce Posted: Mar.31 at 8:01 pm
Well considering the East has been better than the West this year, and Wade and Lebron are putting up insane stat lines, your argument is kinda weak. Carmelo is just as talented, I’ll give you that, but his attitude will hold him back. It has so far. And Wade’s mumbers in conference play are lower than his overall averages. Meaning he does better against the western teams. Can’t speak for Lebron, IDK if that holds true to him.

  • clapzilla Posted: Mar.31 at 8:11 pm
So You Guys Seriously Expect Melo To Like Injure His Own Teammates When The Nuggets Are Say Up 3-1 On The Blazers, Just To Lose In The First Round Again? Yeah, …That’s Not Gonna Happen. Put Him Down For Some Big Double-Doubles In The Second Round Against San Antonio. Spurs Might Take The Series Though.

  • nate the great Posted: Mar.31 at 9:53 pm
if they dont play the blazers in the 1st round they might win.

  • chintao Posted: Mar.31 at 10:24 pm
The guy’s still young. I am hoping that ‘Melo is evolving. Actually, if he read some of these posts, he might have a better understanding of his weaknesses and his strengths. I firmly believe that, if the kid can pull it together, it’ll be like, “Watch-out now!”

  • Dacre Posted: Mar.31 at 10:26 pm
    LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD.

  • capostat Posted: Apr.1 at 12:38 am
No offense AI. He’s just really stressing how much of a better team this is than ANY in the (likely recent) past.

  • Z Posted: Apr.1 at 10:19 am
    sociopolitical implications of his “persona”

cut the crap, everybody’s from the hood. you don’t see lebron or d-wade in bootleg dvds with criminals or with weed in their backpacks or punching dudes on the court or waving off a sub. im not even talking about the playoffs, that’s not entirely his fault. melo lacks professionalism and maturity. yeah he’s young but this is his sixth year, he’s been around the block a couple of times already. / all the players in the asg are not elite but all the elite players are in asg, get it?

  • MeloMan13 Posted: Apr.1 at 11:59 am
@ Z:Deron williams is arguably the best point guard in the league and he hasn’t made ONE all star game. so your theory about all the elite players making the All star game is irrelevent @ L33tuce: the top 3 teams in the East have been better than the west. but the west is definetely more balanced. the 9th seed team would have home court advantage in the east. so u cant say the east has been stronger

  • Z Posted: Apr.1 at 12:17 pm
deron should have been in quite a few asg by now but my theory still stands because i don’t consider him to be in the nba elite. cp3, kobe, wade, lebron, duncan, garnett, dwight. that’s it. deron is in the second tier with the yaos, roys, pierces, etc. i concur that it’s debatable because he’s not that far off but that doesn’t change my argument about melo (which is really what’s important) : it’s the mental aspect of being an nba superstar on and off the court that’s holding him back, not his skillset.

  • clapzilla Posted: Apr.1 at 9:18 pm
C’mon Z. Most of Your Complaints Are From Things That Happened 5 Years Ago. He Isn’t Being Held Back By Your Mindset Bull Which You’re Only Talking About To Make Yourself Feel Smart. Go Look And The West Standings And Watch The Nuggets In The Playoffs.
