Here’s Your Weekly Dose of Shaq Dissing Other Centers

by Marcel Mutoni

Seems like he does this almost every week, doesn’t it?

Shaquille O’Neal was back it last night, following his Suns’ loss in Portland. When the subject of his his little tiff with Joel Przybilla during the game was broached (plus his thoughts on Greg Oden), reporters in the locker room perked up as they knew that some typically Shaq-esque responses were on their way.

Hoopsworld got the quotes:

“He said I threw the ball at him and I said, yeah. That’s what I did. So what? Do something about it. I’m not much of a talker.” When asked if he could receive a fine for admitting he “threw the ball” at Przybilla, Shaq quickly corrected himself.

“I didn’t throw it. I dropped it. Hey, it doesn’t matter to me – whatever they do. It’s been done before. You move on. I just dropped it. He was in the way. If he wouldn’t have flopped and been on the floor, he wouldn’t have been down there.” You don’t like the floppers do you, asked one reporter. “No. It just shows you are giving in. The referees are probably going to go for that every time. You’ve got to now (flop). It’s the only way you can stop a person. It’s kind of crazy the refs go for that.”

So what did Shaq think of Oden? “I don’t. I’m a Shogun. You can’t ask me about a low level ninja. I still have to worry about Yao Ming, Dwight Howard.”

Someone should poll big men that O’Neal has gone up against in his career, and figure out how many have had to seek some sort of emotional counseling following his barbs.

You know, it’s pretty rich to listen to Post-Flop Shaq complain about other centers flopping as “the only way you can stop a person”…

  • Joel O's Posted: Mar.27 at 10:06 am
Yay! First. Or second? *Pumps fist in air*

  • Mo Charlo Posted: Mar.27 at 10:06 am
Wait, who did Shaq ‘diss’ in this? Ghostface or Grandpa?

  • Darksaber Posted: Mar.27 at 10:09 am
    Shogun, haha. Priceless

  • PIERRE Posted: Mar.27 at 10:11 am
WHAT ABOUT HAKEEM BIG SHAQ?? HÉHÉ SHAQ AIN ‘T THE BEST AND HE JUST TRIES TO FIND A GOOD WAY FOR HIM TO BE REMEMBERED BUT INFORTUNATELY, WON’T BE FOR HIS GAME ONLY.

  • Jukai Posted: Mar.27 at 10:15 am
    STOP WITH THE CAPLOCK

  • Joel O's Posted: Mar.27 at 10:16 am
Right, Pierre. You can easily name a bunch of centers who will be remembered for so much more than their game. Even in the past decade alone – Robinson, Mutombo, Zo…

  • Gumdrop Posted: Mar.27 at 10:17 am
“I’m not much of a talker!?!?!?!?!?!?!?”

  • riggs Posted: Mar.27 at 10:17 am
    damn french and their capslock

  • jay Posted: Mar.27 at 10:20 am
Maybe kareem, bill russel, hakeem or (who knows I wouldn’t put it past HIM) Bill Walton will ask Shaq soon how their respective asses taste!

  • jay Posted: Mar.27 at 10:21 am
@ gumdrop: your right. He’s the shogun of silence

  • Z Posted: Mar.27 at 10:23 am
eff shaq. he doesnt even know that hes not relevant anymore. yao and dwight are not worrying about you.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Mar.27 at 10:24 am
Ghostface actually mans up out there against Shaq. Also, did someone mention to the Diesel that a) his team got blown out, and b) his team is headed to the lottery despite his divine, unstoppable presence?

  • Fred34 Posted: Mar.27 at 10:29 am
Whatever, all I know is, everyone is going to line up crying when Shaq retires – he will be missed more than anyone realises. Where else you gonna go to get you’re AAA grade sound bites?

  • PIERRE Posted: Mar.27 at 10:35 am
won ‘t cry at all, he had his time, end of the line. is he going to miss you when you retire.

  • PIERRE Posted: Mar.27 at 10:38 am
and fyi riggs capslock has nuthing to do with being french, just with graphic design. that was stupid from you like me sayin that us citizens are all fat. stereotypes ain’ t good at all.

  • Squirrel7 Posted: Mar.27 at 10:44 am
How can you possibly take someone seriously who’s hating on ‘floppers’ despite taking the most publicized one of the entire season?!

  • Spaceship Jay Posted: Mar.27 at 10:47 am
Wait, the Suns won that game?!? Oh. Well, they are in the Playoffs right!? Oh, alright. Why is this guy relevant?

  • Fred34 Posted: Mar.27 at 10:48 am
No, it’s only in the South of France where everyone yells in CAPS – HEING?!? CONG!

  • Squirrel7 Posted: Mar.27 at 10:49 am
    pulicized/ridiculed

  • doyouwantmore Posted: Mar.27 at 11:19 am
Shaq needs a history lesson about Japan

  • GotHandles? Posted: Mar.27 at 11:22 am
Shaq is the greatest Center of all time and the most recognized ballplayer worldwide outside of Michael Jordan (yes, more than Kobe and Lebron). The diesel can do whatever he wants.

  • Blazer Fan Posted: Mar.27 at 11:24 am
And how did the game turn out for you last night, Shaq? You’ll have lots of time to talk watching the playoffs from your couch. Good thing the Suns play in retirement land, because their bench looks like an NBA reunion event.

  • Z Posted: Mar.27 at 11:27 am
Depuis quand les gens parlent français sur SLAM!?

  • Z Posted: Mar.27 at 11:27 am
oh and that shogun ish is getting really tired.

    [...] Shaq Disses… Again [...]

  • tenorca Posted: Mar.27 at 11:49 am
I am enjoying Shaq’s grumpy curmudgeon era far more than his “I’m just rocking sideburns” era. That was the worst facial hair/head hair combo I’d ever seen…until Drew Gooden’s nape beard.

  • Diesel Posted: Mar.27 at 11:51 am
So now Shaq is saying that Dwight is one of the current dominant centers that he needs to worry about after dissing him the other week? What’s next..he give Eric Dampier props?

  • tenorca Posted: Mar.27 at 12:03 pm
@ Diesel: It’s safe to say no one will be giving Eric Dampier props anytime soon.

  • Coop Posted: Mar.27 at 12:09 pm
Wow thats too funny. Hey people check out Courtcred.com. They got some good exclusive content with high school ballers.

  • Beaker Posted: Mar.27 at 12:13 pm
I’m a hater. I hate Shaq. I’m not one who likes him one day, laughing at his jokes, and then going back and hating him the next day. I always hate him. I mean, it’s not a deep-seated kind of hate (I at least respect the man and his skills) but for real, Shaq is kind of a douche. Good player, but a douche. The way I see it, Shaq said some pretty funny stuff back in the day, and so now it’s like everyone’s got this entrenched perception of him as a real comedian that he can basically say anything and everyone’s like “Aw that’s priceless!” even if if wasn’t that funny.

    The Big Irrelevant

  • BostonBaller Posted: Mar.27 at 12:41 pm
I believe a player is relevent as long as fans and media seek them out. I don’t think Shaq went to the media, they sought him out and they asked pointed questions hoping he would answer with the 1st thing that came to mind. Shaq can talk about ppl flopping b/c they do. How many times have you seen Shaq flop in his career? Be honest folks, he admitted it when he did it this year but folks will harp on that 1 time. lol.

  • SK Posted: Mar.27 at 12:43 pm
I hope Phoenix doesn’t somehow end up with a top 3 pick when they miss the playoffs. I don’t want Phoenix given any bonus chances in these last couple “journey man” seasons. I don’t like when people (Barkley, Webber, etc.) say Phoenix or Dallas will be better off missing the playoffs and blowing up the team with a lottery pick. Phoenix will have a pick 1 position better than dallas and 2 positions better than 7th place team in west, etc.

  • BostonBaller Posted: Mar.27 at 12:44 pm
hate on Shaq all you want then think about your favorite team and ask yourself if you would trade your center straight up for Shaq…(Be Honest) There are only a small number of teams that you could root for in the L that you would honestly say that you would keep your center over Shaq….Relevence? Hmmmmmm, you tell me.

  • neaorin Posted: Mar.27 at 12:57 pm
Shaq should just hang in there a bit more until his retirement and inevitable ESPN gig. Plenty of opportunities to pick on anybody he wanted.

  • whooo! Posted: Mar.27 at 1:14 pm
Shaq does believe in an order of centers, as he’s said many times. i saw on twitter someone called him the greatest cneter ever, and Shaq responded he was only the 3rd best center. aside from Russell, i’m wondering who it was, since shaq didn’t say. he’s passed his idol Hakeem in scoring and rings, so it’s either Cap or Wilt.

  • tenorca Posted: Mar.27 at 1:18 pm
Shaq’s love for Timmy always pleases me as well. Credit where credit’s due, essentially. And, in his defense, what’s he supposed to say about Oden? Dude’s played 50-someodd games in two years, only a handful of which have been anything other than low to mediocre. Brook Lopez is better, ferchissakes.

  • Washtub Posted: Mar.27 at 1:40 pm
I don’t get all the hate either.
Shaq has always paid respect where respect was due (Duncan, Hakeem), why is the guy supposed to be all praise about guys who’ve done sh1t compared to himself?
Dude went against some of the best big men of the last 30 years and obliterated them all, except for Hakeem, who was 7 years his league senior at the time they faced off and Shaq still got his numbers.
Today, old as dirt, he’s still putting up quite decent numbers. The Suns aren’t in the position they’re in because of Shaq.

  • tealish Posted: Mar.27 at 1:54 pm
Yawn. Tired of dude. Did his twitter buddies encourage him to do this? New act, please.

  • Young Chris MP3 Posted: Mar.27 at 2:02 pm
    G(C)OAT

  • the baconator Posted: Mar.27 at 2:19 pm
Did anyone else see the staredown between Shaq and Robin Lopez? Stupidest thing the rook could’ve done. Shaq might not be as dominant as he used to be, but he’s still got the intimidation down pat

  • jbn74sb Posted: Mar.27 at 2:24 pm
Make the playoffs, overpaid doughboy, and then speak. Once of course you swallow your mouthful of donuts.

  • dma Posted: Mar.27 at 2:58 pm
    Pryzbilla does not flop.

  • DP Posted: Mar.27 at 3:02 pm
“I’m a shogun.” this dude is funny as hell. but he is still a high class ass so i don’t disagree with him on his statements. Dude is at the end of his career so he has to throw salt at other cats to make himself feel like he is still the sh*t.

  • L33tSauce Posted: Mar.27 at 3:03 pm
    Shaq flops too…

  • BALLA30 Posted: Mar.27 at 3:21 pm
“I’m not much of a talker.” Hahaha

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Mar.27 at 3:33 pm
Ah well, at least he gave props to Yao Ming and Dwight Howard, the two best real centers in the game right now.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Mar.27 at 3:33 pm
I feel bad for Greg Oden though…

  • donlaker Posted: Mar.27 at 3:40 pm
does shaqtus el cactus, realize that every time he opens his pie(fatburger)hole
his suns lose….. somebody please have shaq coming off the bench, and they can conserve his
energy because he is good for 15 min a game at best..

  • luke Posted: Mar.27 at 4:36 pm
You don’t like the floppers do you, asked one reporter. ”No. It just shows you are giving in”. Ohhhh how quickly he forgets…

  • Reggie Posted: Mar.27 at 4:44 pm
What’s the deal with Shaq’s crooked agent? Did he dump the guy? I know he shared the same agent as Agassi, and I’ve heard all about the rumors, but haven’t heard about Shaq’s relationship with the guy.

  • Sebastian B. O. Bunionstow, esq. Posted: Mar.27 at 4:59 pm
The Suns were in a back-to-back while the Blazers came at them fully rested. The outcome was obvious. As for Ghost face, he gets paid to get into everyone’s grill. He deserves what he gets in return. Some of you puppies don’t remember Shaq in his prime.

  • RuPaul Posted: Mar.27 at 5:00 pm
    I’m like Bosh.

  • Tim E. Posted: Mar.27 at 5:21 pm
Przybilla does his share of flopping. It’s part of the game, folks. Shaq is who he is, an entertainer as well as a player (not to say that his rapping is anything to speak of). And hell, if anyone called me a ninja, low-level or not, I’d be damn happy. At least he didn’t say ashigaru. Not that Shaq knows what he’s talking about…

  • ciolkstar Posted: Mar.27 at 6:15 pm
shaq is an ass, but this line (“I don’t. I’m a Shogun. You can’t ask me about a low level ninja. I still have to worry about Yao Ming, Dwight Howard.”) is tremendous.

How Shaq gonna diss Ghostface aka Vanilla Gorilla? VG ain’t no punk!

  • larrylegend Posted: Mar.27 at 7:28 pm
to all french in the world: write/speak english, you all learned it at school, so use it!
not very polite. you’re here to talk ball, not getting ladies in…

  • Sir Chuck Posted: Mar.27 at 9:14 pm
Lol Shaq is too funny. Hey look at the bright side Oden at least he recognize that you’re a ninja. Just gotta work your way up to a higher level now!

  • Roy Posted: Mar.27 at 9:45 pm
Hahahahahaha. Typical Shaq talk. Funny as always. A shogun? What the… :D

  • AI Posted: Mar.27 at 11:51 pm
I hope Shaq stays healthy and plays for another 15 years…..

  • ka Posted: Mar.28 at 12:23 am
this is pretty mild for shaq actually.

  • Blinguo Posted: Mar.28 at 2:58 am
Barkley made some great comments about Ghostface’s game in the post-game show. How he could be a big time guy in another team/market. Didn’t expect that. Expected the continuance he always says about the best players on PHX being old (but said that back before the season forgetting Amare, and Lang didn’t get a chance to ask “What about Amare-he’s not old?” in that media circus of NYC questions)

  • ab_40 Posted: Mar.28 at 12:12 pm
larry the french get 5 or 6 years of english in school and they still can’t talk it most of the time. I’ve been there I’ve played there and it sucks plus the women especialy in the north of france are UGLY. and shaq never dissed dwight he just said that he copies a lot of what he does and did and that is true. and ever since his scoring average dipped below 25 shaq get’s called for ofensive fouls for moves that made him well an icon so I know why he’s frustrated with that.

  • CP34MVP Posted: Mar.28 at 3:19 pm

  • Bart Posted: Mar.28 at 4:10 pm
If you follow Shaq much at all it doesn’t take very long to figure out that he loves self-promotion. Most of the things Shaq says or does, those things that upset other players, coaches, or fans, are done with a good measure of jocularity. He’s a big kid at heart.

  • Nico Posted: Mar.28 at 7:29 pm
You all have not forgotten that shaq wins championships. While not even close to his past form, arguably two of the best players in the L had to have shaq to win a championship. So all you haters shut your trap (at least until Kobe wins one without him)

  • Melvin Posted: Mar.28 at 11:54 pm
LOL, that is why I love Shaq so much. =p

  • nate the great Posted: Mar.29 at 3:46 am
ehh. my home town team players getting dissed by my favorite team…. and the one guy who ruined it… shaq.
i give him props for what he has done… but got damn man keep your fat @ss mouth shut. it gets old.
i mean. he has two funny videos.
kobe tell me how my @ss taste.
    and vlade divac freestyle.
    all.

  • Dacre Posted: Mar.29 at 8:54 pm
    bar bar brenven wah…
I still love the Suns though.

  • Tyquan Posted: Mar.29 at 11:46 pm
Don’t feed to much into it ya’ll Shaq’s just bored I mean he’s gotta know no playoffs this year?! Sorry Suns fans I mean ya’ll really had me goin’ when ya’ll got Jason Richardson hey its okay!? Would you rather have Jason Richardson at full strength or Rent A T-Mac for 41 games and 46 nights? Have fun this summer, Steve Kerr!?.

  • chintao Posted: Mar.30 at 12:09 am
After reading that post on the Sixers the other day, I have concluded that Shaq is nothing more than a poor-man’s Darryl Dawkins.

  • Jay G Posted: Mar.30 at 4:53 am
I’m changing my Shaq stance. I’m starting enjoy Shaq’s old man rants. Calling Oden a low level shogun is priceless.

  • zachhh Posted: Mar.30 at 3:50 pm
didnt he flop we he played against dwight howard??

  • Z.O. Posted: Mar.30 at 3:59 pm
shaqs gota shaq sized mouth for not even makin it to da playoffs this year eh?? mabye its time tha diesel swithed to bio fuel er sumthin…

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Mar.30 at 7:40 pm
It’s just hard to believe a team with Shaq, Grant Hill, Steve Nash and Jason Richardson could miss the playoffs. Even if 3/4 of those guys are older than dirt.

  • Darksaber Posted: Mar.30 at 10:26 pm
Damn, the anti french sentiment in the US is still going strong? as for “a foreign language” killing a comments section? Check the TP-MVP Debate comments section to be proven wrong. Free flowing international discussion over there, with nary an insult in the mix.

  • Dacre Posted: Mar.30 at 10:29 pm
The thing is dirt cant play D either….man though…coming back from 21 down to nearly beat the Jazz shows that the SUNS still want it….I just dont think they can handle it.
go suns go… the suns wont even get a decent draft pick this year because I think it goes to the BETcats…

  • donlaker Posted: Mar.31 at 3:52 pm
to shaqtus or not to shaqtus that is the big phoenix question…..and i would suggest the suns
hold shaq to 10 min a game ,but the way it looks now they might not make it into the playoffs
because even with 5 all stars they cant beat anybody of importance(dallas doesnt count)

  • donlaker Posted: Mar.31 at 3:59 pm
oops barbosa is almost an all star
