Isiah Thomas: Clipper-Bound?

by Marcel Mutoni

Should a nuclear war wipe out life on this planet at some point in the future, only a few earthly creatures will survive: cockroaches and, apparently, Isiah Thomas.

Thomas is reportedly a hot commodity in NBA circles again, with the Los Angeles Clippers being the leading candidate to acquire his brilliant services. Of course they are.

ESPN and the NY Post are hearing similar things:

Isiah Thomas is actively seeking work again, and he spoke several weeks ago with Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling in a meeting arranged by current coach/general manager Mike Dunleavy,

Several NBA sources confirmed the February meeting between the former president and general manager of the New York Knicks, adding that there were follow-up discussions between Thomas and other high-ranking club officials — but also stressing that no job has been offered.

Sterling is said to be considering adding another executive to the Los Angeles front office to alleviate some of Dunleavy’s responsibilities in his dual role as coach and general manager…The discussions between Thomas and the Clippers were described by one source as informal yet substantive. Thomas remains under contract to the Knicks for the remainder of this season and two more, but he has the franchise’s permission to seek employment elsewhere.

As the old saying goes, if you can’t get Jerry West, you gotta nab Zeke.

How amazing (and horrible) would it be if Thomas was tabbed to replaced Dunleavy in the Clipper front office? The absurdity, the sheer absurdity would be too perfect. Replace one disaster with an even bigger one. Oh, Clippers, don’t you ever change.

Clipper fans have every right to walk away from this team and go cheer for Kobe.

    Isiah Thomas + Plantation = ???

  • T Money

I think when you are the Clippers, any sort of publicity is good publicity.

I’m pretty sure Dikembe Mutumbo would still be playing the League if there was a nuclear fallout as well

This is actually good more than bad. I mean anyone is better than Mike. You never know this could be zekes way to redeem himself plus clipper fans are way mor likly to support him than mike in the front office

Nobody said the world was a fair place.

I also feel sorry for zach randolph. From NY to L.A. he cant get away from zeke

I saw this rumor on another website early this morning, and ever since I’ve been refreshing the slamonline page about every 20 minutes so I can post something along the lines of “hahahahahahahahhaa” as a response. Hahahahahahahhahhaha. (sigh) That was nice.

  • Fred34

@Kandi – you think Zach can file for harassment too?

  • rabn21

I had to re-check my calender there to confirm that it is indeed not the 1st of April!

Would be good for pure comedy value.

  • jay

    @ Kandi river: haha.twice.

Someone should tell the Clippers that “so bad, it’s actually good” only works with bad films and bad songs.

  • reggie haters

Bill Simmons might have died just now.

  • Fred34

reggie – perish / or cherish the thought?

it’s roaches, Isiah, deke & keith richards actually….

  • CHE

I am pretty sure SAM CASSELL, TYRONE HILL and POPEYE JONES would still be here after a nuclear holocaust.

Anyway, I see this as a beautiful start to more misery for the Clippers. Donald Sterling is getting the KY ready for Zeke.

  • chris g

If this happens there needs to be a Clippers-based reality show to document all of this. Zeke, Sterling, Zach Randolph, Ricky Davis, Bill Simmons, Elgin Baylor’s lawsuit . . . there’s just so much material here.

uhhhh, this will not end well.

And Hussman, if THIS is what it will take for you to be “done with the Clips” then you, my friend, have some issues to work out. Any fan that has stuck with them through this much should be a lifer. They have quite the history of making bad decisions, after all.

    Make it happen!

@Russ: oh please Bengtson (t before s, right?), DO TRY and articulate your inner turmoil regarding this matter. Do enlighten us.

They already look the part, mutant…

  • Rome

…and the clippers will remain the Detroit Lions of the NBA!!!

It’s too good to be true.

Isiah Thomas is the answer…..the answer to the question “how can the Clippers possibly get any worse?”.

    I guess Z-Bo misses him.

  • http://www.blogs.myspace.com/originadro Witness

Ha! I guess donald Sterling didnt know that two wrongs dont make a right.

  • whooo!

to be honest, i wouldn’t mind thomas working for my favorite team. BUT… his duties would be completely limited to drafting players. he’s got a tremendous eye for talent, especially at the late rounds in the draft. everything else though, including player interaction, would have to be off limits to this guy. of course i’m sure he’d never agree to such terms, and the nagative really outweigh his good.

  • http://www.blogs.myspace.com/originadro Witness

i think his only good late round steal had to be david lee.

  • rav

nate robinson and trevor ariza were good picks too

  • http://www.blogs.myspace.com/originadro Witness

i forgot about ariza. but nate was d’antonis pick. in phoenix.

  • nate james

this isnt good. i liked the clippers…..
now if he gets a hold of the team… ugh.
baron davis equals the new starbury

  • Prison Mike

Thank God Baylor paved the way so Thomas could be the Clippers GM.

  • Joe

Isiah Thomas, should have been with the Clippers in the first place, instead of the knicks because, we wouldn’t have been able to tell exaclty how horrible he is.

What do you expect? They are the Clippers. They would do everything in their power to make sure they suck. And if you are an African American woman working for the Clipper organization, be afraid…..be very afraid.

  • chintao

As Immortal Technique said – “And remember something ni&&a, while you rave and rant /
Isiah Thomas can live for nine days without his head, but you can’t.”

  • larrylegend

guy has 7 lives…4 more to go, thank god

  • Jess

    just what the clipps need….haha

  • http://apeachbasketandadream.wordpress.com/ Peach B.

First the Raptors, then NBA on NBC, then the CBA, then the Pacers, next the Knicks, and now the Clippers?! What else is he going to take from unsuspecting basketball fans before he’s stopped? Isaiah Thomas is on a mission to ruin basketball. What a grinch.

This should be taken as a sign from the Clippers that they’re looking to fold in a few years.

  • Blinguo

Will there be “nobody reporting to Isiah” in Staples? By the way, I’ve never been but is that arena even big enough for 2 sets of GM/Prez/VP other offices? Even if the Clipshow doesn’t necessarily get prime real estate due to how un-effective they’ve operated over the years. Also, Isiah should probably say no to going there to after the Elgin Baylor vs. owner scandal. But then even with that, he had some kinda job security among losing season after another. Isiah had those losing seasons too, without the job security in NYC.

  • http://www.ravingblacklunatic.blogspot.com Allenp

I’d let Zeke draft for me, but he can’t run the team and he can’t coach.
But, can anybody really argue that Isiah isn’t a FANTASTIC drafter?
Make him the head of scouting.

  • Dave

A fantastic drafter? Renaldo Balkman in the first round? Are you joking?
