Kobe’s Soccer Jones

Dude traveled by helicopter to welcome LA’s newest soccer star to town: “As much as he admires Lionel Messi and FC Barcelona, and as close a friend as he is of David Beckham, the NBA’s most genuine soccer lover places Marta right up there on the same pedestal. ‘I’m a fan, really,’ Bryant said. ‘I don’t feel like Kobe the basketball player at all. I’m just as excited as anybody here. Watching her play, the way that she plays with such passion, such energy, such a love for the game, and so much creativity, I found myself being glued to the TV set. There were three things I wanted to accomplish last summer when I was in Beijing. One was to win a gold medal. Two was to watch Michael Phelps make history. The third was to watch Marta play in person. I was fortunate enough to accomplish all three. I’m beyond excited that she’s here.’”

the NBA’s most genuine soccer lover….this is conjecture. nash is right there, but then who? are they the only ones?

    Kobe wants to hit that

Apparently KG is pretty keen on it, but he may have just been saying that as he was in the UK for an exhibition game, and thought he’d get himself a few more fans by talking up the nation’s favourite past-time……

All the Euros and South Americans grew up with it as part of their culture, so it’d be tough for Kobe to match that.
Wait, I forgot, he’s ltalian. Yeah, he wins.

Olajuwon was a goalie before coming to the States. Imagine how sick he must’ve been. Supposedly, he could kick free throws in more accuartely than he could shoot them when he first got to U of H. I know he’s not a current player, but I just thought that was interesting.

Maybe he seeks advice from Marta on how to manage Caucasian female fans

Funny how the adidas-sponsored hoopsters follow adidas-sponsored soccer teams, and the Nike-sponsored hoopsters support Nike-sponsored soccer teams…
Actually, it’s not funny. It’s just annoying and obvious. Never mind.

yeah, cos we all want to fall out of favour with the companies that give us loads of money. Never mind.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ Tarzan: Best believe Barbosa loves soccer. And
    Verejao… And Nene…

  • Diogo

I don’t quite believe this, but ok. And by the way, not all Brazilians are good soccer players. I doubt Varejão can ball.

It’s funny, because it must be a total shock for Marta to be in LA,talking to Kobe, as she’s played the last few seasons in a northernmost town in Sweden called Umea. The city only has 80,000 inhabitants. A little different from LA. But when I lived in Sweden, she was greatly revered, and I believe the same will happen in LA.

“Funny how the adidas-sponsored hoopsters follow adidas-sponsored soccer teams, and the Nike-sponsored hoopsters support Nike-sponsored soccer teams…”

also many nike/adidas sponsored hoopsters seem to follow soccer players who are sponsored by the same company (e.g. kobe’s prior mancrush on another nike guy ronaldinho), although they probably know each other through the company (like the adidas ad with beckham and KG) but i think KG’s been a soccer fan for years – can remember him going up to hug didier drogba straight after the game at the o2 about 2 years ago

  • WhaHuh

KG said he became a fan after that Chelsea match. Hasnt been a fan that long then

Hakeem was the shiznit playing soccer in Nigeria before moving to the states. Imagine having to face that huge guy as a striker and him in goal? Nash has for real soccer skills, totally above average judging by some vids i’ve seen.

@ Anton Posted: Mar.6 at 1:08 pm ==> I believe the word you were looking for is “handle”. Kobe is looking for advice on HANDLING caucasian females. Ball-Hog Rapist.

  • Jack

Nene had pro clubs in the EPL lookin’ at him before he decided on basketball.

  • schmoove

Nash’s brother is a professional soccer player who also played for the canadian national team.
