More Down Time for Oden

Relax, Blazers fans. Old people take longer to heal: “The news just keeps getting worse for Trail Blazers rookie Greg Oden and his mysterious ailing left knee. The Blazers, after evaluating their starting center earlier in the day, announced Monday evening that Oden will miss another seven to 10 days because of his lingering left knee issues…According to the Blazers’ latest timeline, Oden will miss between four and six more games, which includes pivotal matchups against playoff contenders Denver, Dallas and the Los Angeles Lakers. If he sits out the maximum 10 days, Oden will return just before the team’s five-game East Coast trip later this month.”

but, did they really need him, a injury prone? i don’t think so.

I think Saigon is going to drop an album before Oden comes back.

jesus christ, as amazing as durant is (and i fully acknowledge that he’s a big time player, already) the last thing the blazers need is a high scoring / no defense player. they’re already the second most efficient offensive team behind the lakers, but the defense is the problem. now, obviously oden doesn’t help anyone when he’s on the bench. but they didn’t sign him to help them win a few games here and there this season, this is a big picture pick. of course, if he doesn’t ever get fully healthy (which i think he will) then of course, having durant would have been better. but, it’s way too early to say he’ll be out of the year in 3 years. he’ll be better than kwame and he’s still in the league after 3 years. people need to chill… myself included.

last time i said he was injury prone and Sam Bowie I got blasted. this is brutal, he isn’t healing. Doc Funk, before Oden heals, RAEKWON will drop his new album

Oden looks like an OAP does that mean he’ll take 6 years to heal?

    Justin wins

Doc, seriously though, when’s the last time a player took this long to heal and defied the teams official medical staff twice by not healing at all? Remember, the original length was 7-10 days. It’s been extended another 7-10 days twice. that means that his knee hasnt improved at all- the length of time originally for that injury is 7-10, they’ve increased it twice now for the same time… this tells me he heals outrageously slow

Cant even be bothered to think about this guy any longer, waste of time.

Yeah, I remember at the Rookie/Soph game Oden was confident he wouldn’t miss more than All-Star festivities. That seems so long ago.

2 in a diff. team 3-4 in euro league. if he survives..he’ll be the best def. oriented center since Russel within 5 years. If…

Although, I thought the initial prognosos of 7-10 days for a chipped patella was awfully ambitious, especially for a bigman with recent knee issues.

dont worry greg… one day theyll understand how much of a force you are. and the next game youll be missing is when the blazers clinch home court.

Could be worse, anyone remember Gilbert Arenas?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Justin Walsh

Young, Gilbert Arenas was a second round pick- any production 2nd round picks give a team are pure gravy, and at least he’s produced in this league. But yes, I do understand what you mean- that 126 million dollar contract is looking retarded right now.

  • youngmuggsy

I was talking about how Gil has faded into obscurity.

Dear Mr General Manager of the Trail Blazers, I would like to start of by saying how great the future is starting to look for Portland’s NBA team in the near future. You have put together a great group of young up and coming stars and the blazers are very exciting to watch. No doubt this makes you happy because your able to put a good ‘product’ out there for the NBA fan base in Oregon. I do have one thing to bring up and this is becoming a glaring issue – unfortunately to do with one of your players and to be straight forward and to the point it’s about Greg Oden, your rookie selection from last year. I am sure he was selected with the utmost confidence regarding his skills and character. But one thing that needs to be mentioned is that he resembles a similar player in Sam Bowie taken in the 84 draft if I recall. Sure we could mention suth throw-away lines as Greg Oden’s ‘bright future’, ‘unlimited potential’, ‘amazing upside’ but lets be real honest – they just can’t apply to an aging, injury-plagued Greg Oden any longer. My suggestion would be to look for a big young player in the up coming 09/10 draft and prepare for the ‘bright future’ and ‘unlimited potential’ that the rest of your ball club has.
