Nice Watch, Kobe

Wildly expensive, too: “Nubeo, a high-end watch brand known outside the U.S. for its jellyfish-shaped watches, has teamed up with the basketball star to create a limited-edition line of high-tech sport watches starting at about $21,000 and topping out at $285,000. The Black Mamba series — a play on Mr. Bryant’s nickname — will be unveiled this coming week at Baselworld, the watch and jewelry show held annually in Basel, Switzerland, and will go on sale in the U.S. this fall, the watchmaker’s American debut.”

Nice way to cater to your core fan base, dummy. Beautiful watch, though.

His core fanbase? White suburban kids?

Why the hell would you pay more for a watch than a car or a house?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    Exactly, TAD.

Waste of money. Buy a nice car or invest in some stocks with that money. Hey everybody!

The only ones able to afford those watches will be the few CEOs from AIG who hasen’t payed their bonuses back. Best watches are and forever will be Tag Heuer.

Expensive watches are the dumbest thing ever. They’ll break and get lost as quick as my damn Target watch will. Stuff like this makes me hate human kind.

I totally understand super expensive watches. I don’t rock any jewelry (or even a watch currently) but if I was wealthy, believe I would have a couple of very nice timepieces. My main issue is: “Jellyfish-shaped” Really?

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

…Oh and don’t get me wrong $285,000 for a watch is utterly ridiculous.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

ciolk, I found pics of the watch….the fu*king thing is smooth…..jellyfish is not in it’s design….Kobe’s kind of going for a Matrix-y/Neo vibe in the ad too.

Nice watches, but there is no reason for them to be so expensive. Materials are no better than any other mid-level watchmaker. they are very unique-looking though.

i could buy the house i live in 1.6 times with the lowest priced watch.

    What soooooo who cares????

People, these watches aren’t for us po folks, these are for the milloinaries and billoinares, who got 200,000 as pocket change. Plus I know alot of people who love watches and if had the money would pay alot of money for watches. The point is Kobe is more global than any player in the NBA-even Yao Ming, Lebron is not close, because alot of people don’t like Lebron’s game, not skillful and doesn’t look sharp. Just going off what I have read about China and other places looking at Kobe as an idol. Lebron wants to be a global icon, but people don’t like his brutish game. Kobe’s game is more about the dramatic and flare, so selling watchings to rich folks, will be easy. Also Kobe’s jersey was number one in China and USA.

I guess you have to be Kobe-rich to understand shelling out 285,000.00 on a watch. It just seems gross to me. Out of touch.

The Seed, please end your life. Why is this about Kobe and Bron?

  • riggs

    Nubeo’s are ugly as hell…

The Mr T meter is at critical mass..

  • littleshotlarry

Seriously. I would pay about… 3,000 maximum on a watch. And that seems outrageously frivolous. Once you pass 10,000 on a damn watch, that’s just downright immoral. $280,000 on a watch should send you straight to hell, I don’t care if you’re a billionaire and that’s chump change. Give some damn “chump change” to the millions of starving children on earth. Or if you have to invest it, how about investing it in some microlending? Something. Anyone that pays that (over 250,000) for a watch is an as*hole, and I’d tell them that to their face.

  • Michael

There is a reason these wathces are marketing overseas. Spending 300K on a watch is a very european thing to do.

Z! What do you think about the Jordans that cost between $150 and $210 a pair?

  • luke

Oooooo I can’t wait for the $285,000 one to be released!!!! I won’t be buying it,but just….ya know..

  • dips

wouldn’t this money be better spent buying a lifetime supply of hard drugs?

  • https://twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

Having all-around jewlery game, LeBron bought a less expensive watch but also a necklace and earrings.

I’d go with a more established, historic brand if I was spending $285,000 on a luxury item. You know, like Ferrari or Porsche. That’s just me, though.

  • that dude

I tell time by the sun and get within the hour

  • http://www.twitter.com/mansonovic Andy

If I was spending $285K on a luxury item, I too would go with a more established brand. That kind of money could buy me Merrill Lynch these days, right?

  • Mike

Don’t hate because some people can afford to spend money like that on luxuries. If a person wants to spend that much money on a watch let them. Obviously people treasure didn’t things. A watch can be a better investment then a car in some cases.

Also I can understand someone not agreeing with it, but I do believe kobe invest in charities and other stuff. He has to making all that money, needs to have as much write offs as possible.

  • Mike

Whoever said that the watch cost more then a house…he/she must don’t live in cali. HAHA! I wish houses cost that much here. Hey I think the watch is pretty dope.
