OJ Mayo Stars in ‘The Slump’

Playing in NBA arenas everywhere: “He sat at his locker for several minutes. Motionless. O.J. Mayo’s hands were cupped to hold his head, but parted enough for the Grizzlies’ rookie to stare at the floor. Presumably, Mayo’s deep thoughts centered on making sense of the downward spiral. When Mayo finally moved, his head wagged right and left — a polite way of denying an interview request while maintaining silence. It was a scene that, frankly, summed up Mayo on the court over the past couple of months. Mayo has shaken his head disapprovingly more than he’s celebrated making shots. His game — dynamic, jaw-dropping and incredibly productive earlier in the season — suddenly isn’t making any noise. That is, unless you can hear the sound of people jumping off Mayo’s Rookie of the Year bandwagon.”

he’ll be okay. he already proved he’s one of the most talented rookies in the game ever.

Co-star that is. I am also headlining in the slump today

the bandwagon should get rid of the fairweathercar altogether

  • namik

He’ll be fine. He works too damn hard to not be great in this League. I read his workout schedule in HS and it was 3 a days with lifting, running. shooting etc. ALL thrown in. With classes. Most NBA players don’t work that hard. 82 games is a loooong time though. He’ll get used to it.

  • K

Yeah, cosign namik. Look out for OJ next year.

When I saw “The Slump”, there was a preview for “The 40 Year Old Freshman” starring Greg Oden.

Hell yea, that Love+Miller trade keeps looking better and better. Everyone goes through the rookie wall and OJ will be fine.

OJ hasnt got anything to worry about.

Still one of the best rookies ever.
Westbrook doesnt have a chance for rookie of the year.

For consistency its gotta be OJ or Rose.

I guess we have to put Kevin Love in the conversation.

If everyone is jumping off of the bandwagon, I would like to call shotgun right now. He will be just fine. Strength and conditioning. His body will be used to it soon enough.

  • Fat Lever

Just the fact that he cares enough that this slump is bothering him that much shows that he has the mentality to be great. Seems like he has a great future ahead of him if he continues to work as hard as he has.

how has NOBODY yet said anything about drose?
    its so obvious.
he LED his team, as a rookie, and is one of if not the only top rookie to be on a playoff team right now.
quite obvious guys, lets save our breaths by not talking about kevin love in the ROY race.

    sorry gangsta12, just read that

  • truthteller

O.J. Mayo will be alright. You’ll see.

  • Declan

Why are people bringing up Kevin Love in comparison? Dude didn’t play nearly as many minutes as OJ for most of the season.
