Patrick Ewing, Still Looking for Head Coaching Work

He’s tired of waiting for an opportunity to come along: “I hope so,” Ewing told The Post last night before the Magic hosted the Knicks. “I think every assistant coach in this league would love to get an opportunity. Herb [Williams] would love to get some interviews, too. We’re not in it just to be assistants our whole career. We would love to have the opportunity to be a head coach. Either him or myself hopefully will get an opportunity this summer. I’ve coached under great coaches. I played with great coaches. Hopefully my resume will be sufficient to warrant a job.”

i respect how pat ewing is learning the ropes. coaching bigs, moving up the ladder, waiting for his shot. he’ll eventually get it.

Just amazing that someone like Vinny Del Negro can get hired, and Dunleavy not get fired, while guys like Pat Ewing and Tom Thibodeau (Celts defensive guru) are paying their dues and not even getting a call.

Oh dear….I have a feeling Mr Howard’s career may plateau a little if Patrick Chewing leaves :(

Last I checked, Herb Williams DID have opportunities to be a head coach. And call me crazy, but I think Pat’s head coaching ceiling is more Magic Johnson than Phil Jackson.

    Good luck Patrick!

Dwight has developed nicaly and he will do just fine Luke. Still pat should get a job in sacto or washington. His record will be better than isah or Dunlavy

@ Russ ==> You’re right, Herb has had some half-chances to shine as an interim coach. Maybe G.M.’s were not feeling him after those. It’s different with Ewing, though. Patrick deserves a shot much more than most. Also, with the talent that Fil has always had at his disposal, there has never been any need for coaching — oh, unless you count that time that Fil failed to advise Ariza to foul Iguodala the other day.
