Post Up: Crafty Chris Paul

While LeBron is taken down… By a ref.

by Holly MacKenzie

A bunch of games yesterday, but my focus was firmly on the Raptors/Bulls contest. I was at the game and spotted an empty seat courtside on press row (I’m usually in a different press section), and emailed Raptors PR who told me to make the move, so I was able to watch Derrick Rose, and Ben Gordon in action and watching them will their team back from 18-down was something.

Watching Gordon’s shot over Bosh to tie the game at the buzzer and force overtime was special. Watching Rose go inside again and again, fearless as he went to the hoop was amazing. He ended up turning the ball over in traffic on the Bulls final possession in the extra session, but it didn’t even matter. 23 points and 9 assists later, he’s no rookie.

He deserves the award though. And you know I was on the OJ side of things. I can’t deny Rose any more. So calm and collected. Except for that turnover at the end of the game. He was furious with himself then. I felt for him. Good win for the Raptors though. Love how they string a four game winning streak together now that it doesn’t really matter.

I really, really, really hope we have Pops Mensah-Bonsu here next season. How guys like this don’t latch on with an NBA team quicker, I don’t know. I’m so happy for him though, whether with Toronto or not, he’s earned himself a contract next season. Chatted with him a bit postgame about the NBDL and his diet. Turns out he’s trying to eat better and take care of his body now, before that metabolism slows down. This led to an interesting convo about per diem and the NBA versus the NBDL.

Speaking of the game, the Raptors won in overtime, 134-129. Chris Bosh finished with 31 points and 15 rebounds as Jose Calderon had 22 points as he tied the franchise-high with 19 assists. The Bulls had a 37-point night from Ben Gordon, while Derrick Rose had 23 points and 9 assists and Joakim Noah scored 16.

Thoughts go out to Stephen Jackson who will miss the rest of the regular season after having surgery on his toe. Kinda screws with my fantasty team and playoffs start today. I’ve been in first for most of the season and I want to keep it that way. Wish me luck.

Thoughts also go out to Mike Taylor, who went down hard after banging knees with Yao Saturday night. He came back into the game, but man, tough break when you’ve finally been given your chance. Hope he doesn’t need any down time.

Okay, so the Lakers were defeated by the Hawks. I didn’t see this, but CoCo tells me so. 86-76 for the Hawks and it looks like it was an ugly one from the boxscore. Neither team shot over 40% and Kobe Bryant and Joe Johnson were fighting each other for the ugliest fg %. Bryant finished 7-19 for 17 points while Johnson finished 4-18 for 10 points. Pau Gasol had 21 and 11 for LA while Mike Bibby had 21 for the Hawks. The Lakers scored just 13 points in the first quarter for a season-low.

The Cavs took down the Mavs easily, 102-74. It was ugly for Dallas. The highlight of the game happened in the third quarter when LeBron James ran into a ref and went down. We were watching in the press room before the Raps tip off and everyone in that room stopped what they were doing as a hush came over us until we saw that Bron was okay. Funny how he can stop the world with a fall. Anyway, the Cavs have another home win, have won 12 straight and have the best record in the NBA. Give this man the MVP and give the Cavs an award for their entertaining intros, I’m enjoying watching them. Bron had 24 points and 12 assists, Mo Williams added 22 points and Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 14 points and 9 boards. Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavs with 20 points, while Jason Terry and Erick Dampier each added 10 points.

I still haven’t seen Bron’s halfcourt shot on 60 minutes that everyone keeps on linking to, apparently it’s not available in my country. Whatever.

The TWolves were killing the Nets for most of the game but New Jersey made a game of it late before falling, 108-99. Vince Carter had 36 points in the loss while Devin Harris ended up with 19. The Wolves were led by Mike Miller’s 22 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Ryan Gomes scored 21 points while Rodney Carney added 19 off of the bench. Kevin Love added 16 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.

Allen Iverson and Rip Hamilton returned to the lineup for the Pistons, Hamilton starting and Iverson coming off of the bench and the Pistons defeated the Sixers 101-97 thanks to a fourth quarter that saw them outscore Philadelphia 22-14. Tayshaun Prince scored 21 for the Pistons, Rodney Stuckey scored 16 and Rip Hamilton scored 14. Andre Igoudala had 27 points 7 rebounds and 5 assists in a losing cause for the Sixers as Thaddeus Young added 22.

The Hornets escaped with a win over San Antonio, 90-86, thanks to Chris Paul having the mind to throw up a shot just over the half when he was fouled with 7.1 seconds remaining, to draw three free throws. After hitting all three, the Hornets were up four and went on to the victory after a shaky final few minutes that saw the Spurs cut a seven-point lead down to one in a matter of seconds. Paul finished with 27 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists as David West scored 23 points to go with 16 rebounds. The Spurs were led by a 19-point, 15-rebound night from Tim Duncan as Tony Parker added 20 points and 7 assists and Manu Ginobili scored 17 off of the bench.

Losing 126-118 is another nail in the coffin for the Phoenix Suns and their playoff hopes. One night after losing to the Blazers, the weary Suns came to Sacramento and fell again. While they still have time to make up ground on Dallas, they are going to have to get some help from the Mavs if they want to make the postseason. In this one, Spencer Hawes was great for the Kings, finishing with 20 points to go with 10 rebounds while Jason Thompson scored 21 points and Francisco Garcia and Andres Nocioni each scored 19. The Suns were led by Steve Nash’s 31 points and 14 assists as Shaquille O’Neal added 24 points and 9 rebounds and Jared Dudley added 17 off of the bench.

what would’ve happened if that ref had died in that collision?

  • sab

word to Pops – he’s taking his opportunity well. as one member of Team GB falls, another one rises!

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

good stuff Holly :) And thank god Pops found a place. Whale Killer King is too good a name not to be in the NBA

  • http://coco-vents.blogspot.com Co Co

I promise I didn’t make it up Holly.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

While part of me is mad the Hawks took the game to stay well ahead of the Heat…..another part of me is always happy when the undefeatable takes a loss.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

    Eboy- what’s good man

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

    Lebron for MVP!!!

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

But to be honest. Never, in my 22 years on this planet. Have I see a 6″10′ 280 pound monster like Lebron, go down as if Lee harvery Oswald was in the building. For a second, when it happened, I though by the way bron acted he was out for a good two years.

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

Way to shoo yourselves in the foot, Suns… And how about Shaq already saying that he wouldn’t feel that bad if they don’t make it? wtf?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

What’s up, Justin. James……it’s called playing to the camera/crowd. Dude’s an actor too……..didn’t you know?

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

Jemele made a good point on facebook – Jemele Hill thinks for a 6-foot-8, 270-pound dude, LeBron can be a bit dramatic whenever he’s knocked down.

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

    James, Lebron is 7″2′, 400

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

    What up Eboy!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

You are really complaining how Bron went down?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    What’s up, James. So…….Carolina, anyone?

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

Man that was ridiculous. I have now changed from Kobe to Bron for MVP. I know i know, it’s crazy. But I tore my ACL and had six of my front teeth knocked out with a knee and got up and walked to the side and chilled. That was unbelieveablt last night … did the ref have a bat? lol

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Anyway, my NCAA tourney pool is shot to hell since both Pitt and Memphis lost. However, I did call Villanova being a darkhorse (should have picked them in my pool) and Michigan State beating Louisville.

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

But .. Bron for MVP. See Tad. Just wishing the “grown a$$ man” would be a grown a$$ man. Momma there goes that man that laid on the floor for 15 minutes due to slightly bumping a ref running in the same direction he was. So it was even a head on collision …

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

My pool went to he11 as well. Aw well … I still have UNC taking it!!

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

TAD, my bracket’s shot to hell as well. Although I am QUITE happy that Memphis lost in the sweet sixteen & that Hansbrough got owned by Griffin (only got 9 & 6 while Griffin got like 23 and 16)… YUM

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

I also want to point out how annoying Blake Griffin is to me. He seems completely arrogant on the court and I was happy to see him lose. Maybe i’m the one with the issue? Oh well.

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

OMG Blake annoys you.. but Bron’s acting/lighting fires and swinging fake bats intro doesn’t? Blake is all class man. He is going to be a star in the NBA.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Uhm…..Justin…….his team got destroyed and they basically let him do what he did cause they shut down the rest of that overacheiving squad. He’ll have a Beasley like pro career (14 & 7)early since he can’t shoot a jumpshot…..so I’m not quite as impressed as I should be.

  • Ken

Suns: one night after losing to the Jazz. They lost to the Blazers a few nights ago. But yeah, the way they are playing now, it looks like they don’t even want in on the playoffs. Sad.

  • Myung

Good morning, everyone. The Hawks played REALLY ugly basketball the last 3 games. The only thing that saved us yesterday was the Lakers playing even uglier. I’m not sure how the Hawks won, but somehow, it happened. Tomorrow night in Philly: Preview of the 1st Round? I’m still hoping the Heat get that 5th spot, eboy!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

James…….he might be a star….a few seasons in……but it will be on a sh*t team, where no one will really care how classy he is.

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

Eboy man … I hope you won them signed shoes brother!!

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

TAD, I cant stand Griffin for the record. Interesting News. Calipari will probably leave Memphis for Kentucky. WHAT does this mean for Memphis’ recruiting class- Will they be allowed out of their LOI’s (Henry, Cousins, and co)? Or will they be screwed without their coach because let’s face it they don’t go to Memphis for MEMPHIS, they go to Memphis for CALIPARI. If Calipari leaves, wow that’s going to make stuff weird for their recruiting class. Also, let’s be real- the instability of where Calipari will be might make John Wall commit to Baylor, it might make Stephenson definitely go to KU. And by the way, Cousins hasn’t signed his LOI I just found out. So if Calipari leaves, That whole class will go to Kentucky. Wow this situation could get UGLY.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

James, I never said whether what Bron does annoys me or doesn’t annoy me. Really, the only thing that annoys me is people continuing to bring up LeBron and Kobe every day.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

Eboy, I don’t like Griffin. Ask anybody in these comments, I consistently whine about how I don’t like him. But I love when somebody works Hansbrough.

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

Yeah he is still great man. He will be a guy to build around. And you can tell by his free throws he will be able to get a half descent mid range to fall for him once he gets a jumper. I like Blake alot!! Has alot of class.

  • Fred34

Even tho I despise Wally, it’d be too funny if Joe Smith AND Wally get rings this year but KG and Steph do not . . . . . not sure that it’s karma, just weird.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Calipari to Kentucky?! Hmmm, that could be interesting. I’m wondering who Arizona will get as well.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Careful what you wish for…..Myung…….don’t think the Sternbot won’t be working overtime trying to…..how you say?…..”influence” the ability for the Cavs to play the Heat in the second round for ratings numbers/dollars. This is still a business in the worst economy in 20 years.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

James…..I appreciate the love man……but I did not win them.

  • German Reignman

    Anybody wanna talk brackets ?
Currently sitting in the two spot on the SLAMTourney, its all good …. what was the award for the winner ?

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

Co-sign Eboy .. Heat beat cavs!!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Hansbrough is kind of a lightning rod for love/hate.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

TAD, Arizona wants to get either Mark Few of Gonzaga or you know who, the Coach of Louisville. They wont get either, so they’ll try to get the coach of St. Marys or Lon Kruger of UNLV (they’d probably loved to have gotten VCU’s coach, but Alabama already got him.)

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Well…..if the Heat could “magically” get past the Hawks…..they could win one game, maybe, against the Cavs. I think the Hawks could win two against them.

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

I told my buddies if I won the signed shoe I would send it to this guy named Eboy on SLAM. I ain’t that big of a fan of Wade. I like the guy but me and Kobe, you know “gargle” so to speak … but if I won the ball shoes that fit me I would keep em lol.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

haah James, I read the word Gargle and I was rollin laughin’

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

I think the only contest I was dieing to win was the “Damani” kicks. na dmoose got em’.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Thanks, James. If I win a Kobe shoe in the future…..I’ll do the same for you.

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

lol well I am told I do that often to Kobe.

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

lol man you better KEEP that Kobe shoe!!! Be worth some money one day.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

It wouldn’t look right sitting next to the MJ one I have.

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

MY A >>> DIDAS … Red and green string venom, put the socks right in em’, rock with shorts or some hard fly denim.

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

It would go GREAT with the MJ one! So Bron for MVP. Life is not good. Bron really annoys me… I remember back in the day when I was really getting into SLAM. And the desktop on my computer was Bron in a locker room, weird green color background with his frow holding a ball. DOPE. Now … with the intro … he is annoying!!

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

is anybody else annoyed by ESPN when they say UNC is the favorite because “they all decided to come back”? Seriously, that’s their main reason. Hansbrough, Lawson, Green, Ellington all came back to win a championship. They make it sound like they were lottery picks. They weren’t even first rounders They were second round locks at best last year, and let’s not get it twisted, they aren’t even first round locks THIS YEAR. Lawson PROBABLY is, but he might get screwed by the NBA draft workouts (how tall is he really, what’s his vert, his baseline to baseline speed etc)…Hansbrough is NOT a first rounder, especially after you remember he’s only 6’9 *at best, he’s probably 6’8* and he’s going to be 30 years old by the end of his first contract (your prime is 27-29 usually, so he’d be out of his prime in his second contract. Also, Green was never even on the draft BOARD last year, that includes the second round. He’s probably going to be a second rounder this year. And Ellington probably shouldn’t come out this year. I just hate how they diefy this team and make it seem like they were like Florida (after their first national championship, they legitimately had 3 first round LOCKS and 2 lottery locks that came back to win a second title), when in reality, none of the players were told they should stay in the draft (Lawson and Tyler TESTED the waters, the scouts said to go back to school). If they’re the favorites, say it’s because it’s the best team, but not because they came back, that’s disingenuous

  • Myung

As loopy and foolishly optimistic as I am, eboy, I think if we matched up with the cavs, the Hawks would also win just one game against them. Among the top 3 in the East, they are the team that completely scares me. Then again, after what I saw a KG-less Celtics team do to Atlanta 3 days ago, I’m wondering if we’d stand a chance against boston either. I love the Hawks (and we are super thin right now due to injuries), but they are CLEARLY a level below the elite teams in this league. I guess I already knew that, but the past 5 games (sans the minnesota game) confirmed that, and this, in spite of what the final score said yesterday afternoon. If we make it past the 1st round, i consider this season to be a success, and I consider this year to be a middle finger to all the “experts” who said we’d win 30 games this year and miss the playoffs entirely. I can’t remember one major publication who had the hawks in the playoffs, let alone the 4th seed.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

    A couple of points:
1 – I think James is only saying “Bron for MVP” so he can continually hate on Lebron without question. Or because he’s embarrassed about his boy’s miserable performance last night and how when the fourth quarter comes around, the dude is still softer than ice cream. YOU’RE A SLAM DUNK CHAMPION, DRIVE TO THE BASKET SON!
2 – Why do you guys hate on Blake? I was the biggest Blake hater last year, he’s changed me so much this year. What’s arrogent about him? All I see is cold hearted efficiency on the court, ala Tayshun Prince. Maybe he gives bad interviews? Haven’t listened to him much.
3 – Calipari leaving Memphis? WTF? You kidding me? I heard that on ESPN but I assured myself it was someone else because they spelled his name with a K. Hopefully their just bad rumors.
4 – Spurs do not look good.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

Jukai, it’s not interviews. Watch his body language and facial expressions, that’s why we say he’s arrogant. He’s not cold hearted efficiency, he shoots FT’s in the 50′s percentwise, he can’t shot ANYTHING outside of 5 feet, he literally has no post moves. He’s just PURE athleticism, pure DEAFENING athleticism.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

Also Jukai, Calipari PROBABLY will leave. I heard Kentucky is offering him DISGUSTING money. I mean like more than any other coach in the country, like some straight “A COACH gets paid this?!!?!?!” type money.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Justin, that is what ESPN does. Honestly, all of the teams in the Final 4 are playing well and have a chance. MSU is playing basically “home” games, Carolina is very good with Lawson running the show, Villanova has very good inside/outside balance, and UConn is probably playing the best ball right now. Honestly, this Final 4 should be a treat.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

TAD, I agree, all four teams have a chance. I can’t wait. But I really don’t like the UNC slant. It’s disgusting.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Hey Jukai……I can point to one thing I didn’t like about Griffin yesterday (not the balding brother, BTW), Jukai. Sometime in the second half….I think Carolina was up about 17…..Hansbrough went up for a layup between the Griffin’s and was called for shuffling his feet. Blake mimiced the travelling signal for about 3 seconds while Hansbrough was going up court. Hansbrough turned and saw it and just smirked…..Griffin looked like an ass while his team was getting blasted. I know, I know….immaturity….blah, blah, blah…..but when he got body slammed last week and didn’t react….everyone sucked him off……when his team got rap*d yesterday….he showed where he is in his ability to “classy”.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    *to be

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

Naw Jukai … he is MVP. But I don’t liek the intro and the fake “ouch ouch im injured, every body come hither” It gets annopying when someone great EVERY game. And I mean EVERY game, is wincing from nothing. And he seems to all of a sudden be fine when he see’s that it was an And 1, or a foul on his defender lol.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Eboy & Justin: Guess I missed those things. I watched him a bunch and he rarely shows any emotion. So, seeing him do stuff like that throws me a little. Guess I just don’t know the kid.
The kid is damned efficient though. Hitting free throws is not the efficiency I’m talking about. College ball is sloppy, kids running, tossing shots, chucking layups, moving sloppily. When you watch Griffin, the kid just moves like a pro, he scores like a pro. He doesn’t look like a college kid. All his movement is so precise, he doesn’t really make bad decision. What, was he 9-12 in his final game? C’mon. That’s awesome.
Also, super pissed about the Calipari thing.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

See James……now you can understand why people don’t like Kobe when he does things like the premature big balls dance, ripping his jersey back to show his “heart” (no sh*t, dummy, we see you breathing, we get it, you’re alive).

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

James: preeeeeetty sure he wasn’t faking getting the wind knocked out of him by running into someone’s elbow as he was doing a full sprint. But yeah, sure, it’s all to get attention and stuff.
I love the stuff the Cavs do, their pregame rituals and doofiness. It’s fun basketball. Sorry you don’t like fun.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Jukai…..he’ll start out as an average pro. IMO….’cause he can’t shoot for sh*t. No J is going to kill his ability to score on guys just as strong and just as seasoned as him in the paint and on the block.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

He’s efficient in the way that he only takes shots from 2 feet away, but you aren’t efficient when you go to the FT line as often as he does and shoots FT’s in the 50′s. THat’s just not efficient. Yeah, he scores like a pro – all of his points are rim shaking dunks. He’s a beast in comparison to little weak college posts (there are no big posts in the country that play eachother this year, they all were spread across conferences that never played)…He won’t do it against NBA cats. Not saying he won’t be a good pro, but he will need to improve to become a good pro.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I kind of don’t mind it, either……they are SO over the top…..you know it’s all preconceived….so it’s really hard to take it seriously.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

For the record, I actually think Griffin will be a very good pro, his arrogance just turned me off. I mean, I was watching the games with my girl (who is a newly minted basketball fan because of me) and she pointed out how annoying he seemed to be on the court.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

Eboy, I totally agree. He can’t shoot, he has no post moves, and even though he’s a beast in college, compared to other PF’s in the NBA, he’s run of the mill physically. the PF position is the most stacked position in the NBA. This isn’t Dwight Howard, physically scary specimen, weak position overall in the league, he enjoys stats easily…This is Griffin going against everyone in his position being as strong, way more skilled and as athletic. Griffin can’t get away with only having a drop step in the league, with no ability to shoot FT’s or anything outside of 6 feet for that matter.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Here’s a question: Who were the better same team brother combination: Blake and Baldy Griffin or Ed and Charles O’Bannon?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Justin….I think we get it. There will be plenty of GM’s and writers that won’t.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

The O’Bannon brothers- They got a title, didn’t they? Also, only one Griffin brother had any talent.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Will the balding Griffin even make the NBA? He seems to be just like Blake without any of his athleticism. Which leaves him sorta with nothing.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

Jukai, he actually has a better shot than Blake, but he’s not athletic at all, he still has no post moves, he’s smaller….

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

If that bald dude makes it as a rookie at 36 years old…..I’ll be hella pissed.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    LMAO @ Eboy.

Speaking of which, my girl said the Griffin’s mom looks like skeletor with red hair. Now that was some funny ish.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

I can’t stand that family TAD. I don’t care WHO I make mad.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

That’s just an awkward looking family in general. Blake’s no prize, either. Pops looks like he could fu*k someone up, though.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

No words about Gilbert’s return. The behind the back pass was smooth as f*ck. Good to see him suited up. Just hope he stays healthy.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Ok, enough piling on the Griffin’s. The Cavs have won a franchise record 12 straight. They are peaking at the right time.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

LMFAO @ TAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man, you are SO right……my kid’s in his third week of t-ball with other 3 and 4 years olds and there’s this one lady who thinks her kids on a tryout for the Yankess farm team or some sh*t. I told her on Saturday “you do know that your kid is only 3, right?” She said, “Yeah, but he’s got talent”. I just said, “OK”. Her kid’s unfortunatley on my son’s team…….who coincidentally is…..the Yankess. Joy.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

I really respect Eboy’s and Justin’s NCAA knowlegde but I completely disagree with you guys. Griffin will be a very good pro from the jump! He knows who he is and he knows his strengths. He’s long, super quick, jumps out of the gym, has excellent hands and converts at a mind boggling rate. That’s at least 15 points and 8 boards right there in the L in his 1st year. And here’s what I really like about him : he NEVER misses bunnies. It doesn’t sound like much but it’s actually huge to have a big that actually makes all the shots he’s supposed to make.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

oh god. I hate when parents yell at their kids in sports before they are a teenager

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Am I the only one that gets that Bron was knocked out because the ref hit him in the sternum and he couldn’t breathe?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Z….I love you too….but just for reference: when Carolina started the game yesterday and threw a token double team at Blake on each catch early….he was lost and made ZERO plays with the ball…..it wasn’t until they built their lead and let Blake start making plays as they shut down the rest of the squad did he start to make plays. NBA talent is going to really make him ordinary……QUICK.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Z: I already mentioned that about Lebron. James obviously wont understand.

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

can someone tell me why Patino refuses to give Edgar Sosa serious burn??

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

did anybody see that statement dunk bs Hansbrough tried in the game, where he tried to dunk from too far out (not that far out for most people) and he whiffed it, his arms were like a foot away from the rim and when CBS ran it in slowmo it really drove the point home how unathletic, undersized and how he has Trex arms. Please god please, find this clip

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Happy to see Gil back. The NBA needs him. / I think it’s time for Mike Brown to show Boobie a permanent spot on the bench. You need consistency from your bench guys and he has proven all year that he is anything but that. Andy V, Joe Smith, Wally and Sasha (for 10 mins a game) should be the 4 guys that come off the bench in the playoffs (in that order).

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

MeloMan13 let me answer that for you- Edgar Sosa is trash. He will get even less burn next year when Peyton Siva becomes the starting PG

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Z: Don’t forget about Wallace. That dude will be downright valuable in the playoffs, especially against the Lakers.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    Ben Wallace?

  • nate james

    lebrons a little bich

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

    Yes, TAD.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

E, I think you’re judging him as a potential superstar or the cornerstone of a team. That’s not his ceiling. He can be a very good sidekick or a tremendous third option on a loaded squad. People that will expect him to create on the block will be disappointed but I see him as a very reliable finisher and excellent rebounder. He’ll make an elite point guard or a facilitator kind of wing very happy next year. / Where does the facilitator thing come from? Is it Kob?

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

    Jared Dudley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Jukai, I was assuming that Ben would return to the starting lineup. He is actually very valuable to the Cavs. He doesn’t get any stats but the D is so much better when they have him for 20-25 mins a night. / By the way, I hate 2s trapped in pg’s body. If you’re shorter than 6’3, learn to play the point, dammit!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Is it just me, or can Wally Sexiback just NOT DRIBBLE anymore? I know he wasn’t crossing people out in Sota, but lord almighty… dude seems to fall down WHENEVER HE DRIVES. It’s like the hardest activity on the planet for him at this point. Even when he rebounds five feet away from the basket, he’s chucking it or passing it. Can’t make it that far.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

BET, the Bulls ain’t running the table either….just hope they win the games they should and they might just sneak in.

  • Fred34

J – Even tho I despise Wally, it’d be too funny if Joe Smith AND Wally get rings this year but KG and Steph do not . . . . . not sure that it’s karma, just weird.

  • Fred34

Wally never could dribble – he’d often lose the ball or that weak a$$ statue of liberty crap would get the snit blocked out of it – many a time.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpNs43Y73Cs MooButter

Griffin’s obnoxious. Was last year too. I work at Baylor and get to see him play all the time. He is as arrogant as they come. Anyone who dissagrees with that, click my name and watch the last 5 seconds of that video. After a dunk Griffin turns around to yell “F*** Stephen Curry” at the end of the OU Davidson game. Curry is all class. Griffin is not. Pn another note, as a Baylor fan, I’m praying Calipari leaves and Wall committs to BU!

Sean Marks, had some back to back blocks on Duncan last night, then another big one on Ginobli a few seconds later.

Hmmm, he must no longer be on the Hornets active roster since I don’t see his name.

  • https://twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

@ ti-dizz: what, his 2 dunks? Varajao was busy doing a great job defending Dirk.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

If anything, Hollins is going to have nightmares about the downright Russelesque block that Hickson had on him.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpNs43Y73Cs MooButter

One of those dunks was very clearly over the back. Varajao was in position for a rebound and Hollins literaly landed on his back.

The ShamWow thing was awesome! haha I never would have guessed that guy was 44 judging by the infomercials.

  • https://twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

@ Z: I’ll still take Boobs over Sasha at this point. 1-5 from the field is better than 0-8.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

The ShamWow guy also does a info-mercial for the Slap & Chop chopper. That things gangsta!!!! I picked one up at Walgreens.

    That’s him, Jukai.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I’ve bought two infomercial items that seemed helpful to me. The above mentioned Slap & Chopper and the Magic Bullet. Both are supposed to elimanate the need for a blender/excessive chopping in the kitchen. The Magic Bullet lasted all of about 2 weeks in my kitchen. The Slap thing is pretty good….for anyone that does their own cooking. Lang Batali would appreciate this.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

The ShamWow is actually pretty great. It’s made by Germans, so you know it’s good.

    Goo gutter?

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

I’m sorry, my question was WAY off base for the Post Up. Lemme ask something more appropriate for Post-Up discussion:
Who do you think is more likely to use the ShamWow, Kobe or Lebron? Who is more likely to use the slap chop? Who is more likely to punch a hooker in the face?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Izzo

Jukai:Charles Oakley on all three counts.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    I’ll answer:

#1: Kobe would use the ShamWow ’cause he has a history of having to clean up messes.

#2: Lebron would use the Slap Chop….’cause…you know…. he has no finesse.

#3: I think either one has the capability to pull off the punch to the face.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

I’m sure James the Balla is going to be upset over your answer in one way or another, Eboy.

WHY WASNT LEBRON GIVEN A TECH OR SOMETHING???? THE REF WAS JOGGING DOWN THE SIDELINE LIKE ALWAYS WHEN LEBRON, NOT LOOKING, JUST BARRELS INTO HIM, THEN ACTS HURT TO AVOID A WHISTLE, BS!!!!!!!!

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Is Tarzan being serious? Like, I really can’t tell.

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

O, AND WHEN CP WAS FOULED THERE WAS 9.SOMETHING SECONDS LEFT, THE CLOCK KEPT MOVING AFTER THE WHISTLE, DONT KNOW HOW THEY DIDNT CATCH THAT…. THAT GAME WAS FULL OF BS CALLS FOR THE HORNETS.

  • https://twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

Are you saying NBA refs make bad calls on a regular basis? Shocking!

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

shamwow dude and blatche should hang out.

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

im saying it was horrible that over 2 seconds ran off the clock and no one caught it. pop and finley were yelling at the refs the rest of the game, so they might have noticed. and chris paul was flopping all over the place.

  • JoeMaMa

I couldn’t agree more, Tarzan…Chris Paul is getting those star calls, and the time running off was an absolute joke.
Honestly, true heads of the game find the NBA bittersweet. Such great athleticism and talent, and it’s ruined by the money and marketing. AND THE CALLS.
What I wouldn’t give for some summer league refs to take over a season and make real (non) calls.

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

i just dont comprehend how 3 nba refs, and all those at the scorers table dont notice 2.5 seconds running off the clock. nvm the time keepers, etc, it was in no. but damn, nobody but pop sees the time run off, wow. nba refs arent great and possibly corrupt, but this???? inexcusable!!!

  • knock knock

if that happened joe…lebron would be averaging 15 3 3 the whole season..and kobe would still be averagin around 30 to be real

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

@knockknock: Who is their? Because if you seriously dont think Kobe gets calls and star treatement, you obviously dont watch him. Kobe reaches in more than any other ‘star’ in the NBA. Does he get called for it? Nope.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

BETCATS is God’s gift to SLAM

  • scott

Knock knock’s 3:39 comment made me laugh.

  • JoeMaMa

So, who is the star that gets the least star calls? In the old NBA, or the street NBA, who’s the best???

  • https://twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

    Rodman got no calls

  • scott

Dwyane Wade never gets any calls.

  • knock knock

i live in ohio n they play every cavs game on tv…i see lebron barrell people over and goes to the foul line every time..no offense but in real bball he’d be fouling out..reachin in on kobe are you kiddin me..for one the reachin in rule is only enforced if the player cant make a play on the ball without fouling..i dont see it much. lebron is garbage and would be an average nba player without the star treatment lets all be honest

  • knock knock

his fg% is overrated when he goes to the line all the damn time which takes away from his awful shooting..MORE THAN DWAYNE “traveling” wade

  • scott

Where can i see real bball?

  • http://basketball-reference.com nbk

Dwayne Wade never gets any calls? HAHAHAHAHA do you know what a carry is? Neither does Dwayne Wade

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

i dont know who dwayne wade is?. but seriously, EVERYONE carries and travels in the nba. if ANY other player ran over a ref because he wasnt looking where he was going, you can be sure there would be at least a tech. if that had been sheed or ron, they would be banned for life from the league. obviously, bron didnt try to run over the ref, he wasnt paying attn, but that should still be something.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

They call continuations when LeBron takes an additional 8 steps after the contact, sending him for And 1′s about once every 2 minutes.
But hey, if he comes to the Big Apple, its all good!
