Post Up: Bucks stop Boston

While the Suns scorch the Warriors for 154 in regulation.

by Holly MacKenzie

It’s Monday and the tournament bracket is set and we’ve had the NCAA action covered here on the site all weekend.

I had my heart pounded Friday night, when my school, X, lost badly in the CIS playoffs. That one hurt a lot. Particularly for one of my closest friends who was named league MVP of the Atlantic provinces and who has just had such a wonderful season. I wanted this one for him so badly, but it wasn’t meant to be this time around.

Then, Saturday rolls around and it was a wonderful day. Beautiful weather, I was out of the house before 10 a.m., settled into a coffeeshop and transcribing McDyess, Stuckey and Rip. I got through a lot of work, came home and settled in to watch the Syracuse game. And then, things went downhill. I’d guess the majority of the people watching were cheering for Cuse, but all of the well wishes in the world couldn’t stop Louisville from taking over the Orange in the second half of the Big East Tournament.

I’m so proud of the effort Cuse gave and the heart the guys showed. Congratulations go out to Jonny Flynn, on being named tournament MVP, the first MVP on a losing team since 1996.

Now, I know I haven’t spoken about the other tourney’s that went on this weekend and that’s because I didn’t see much of anything besides the BET. I’m sure you can all fill in the blanks though, because, it’s bracket time!

Want to know something that hit me this weekend? I’m pretty certain that Flynn is my favorite college player… Ever. I’m definitely not saying he’s the most talented or promising or even entertaining, but, I’ve always had my guys to watch each season and I cannot recall ever loving one player’s game/heart/focus as much as I do with Flynn. He is just so exciting to me. He’s what college ball is about, in my mind.

Anyway, back to the NBA. By the time I got home from postgame and transcribing with the Raps, I caught the very end of the Lakers/Mavs game (which was a good one), and that’s really all I saw. Ariza with a career-high 26 to help LA hold off the Mavs.

Damn TSN2 covered the Suns/Warriors game so I missed two teams I enjoy, even though the Suns have been cringe-inducing lately.

Caught the end of the NJ/LA Clips game and it was a good one. After Vince Carter appeared to have won the game by knocking down a clutch three-pointer (how many of those has he hit in his career?), on the Clippers final possession of the game, Eric Gordon drove inside, kicked the ball to Baron Davis who found a wide-open (and I mean, wiiiiiiiide-open), Steve Novak in the corner for three. Clippers won the game, 107-105. More importantly than the loss for the Nets, was the loss of Devin Harris in the third quarter after he fell hard on his shoulder.

VC had a monster game with 41 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. It was in a loss, but can people really pretend the guy doesn’t have it? He may not be the Vince Carter of old, but he’s still pretty damn good and I’d take him on my team.

What do you think would have happened if Coach Skiles had caught Charlie V twittering at halftime? In case you missed it, Charlie updated his Twitter at the half of the game against the Celtics:

In da locker room, snuck to post my twitt. We’re playing the Celtics, tie ball game at da half. Coach wants more toughness. I gotta step up.”

And then updated later that evening saying his twittering didn’t interfere with what was going on in the locker room. I’m sure it didn’t and Charlie was great in the second half, but I still wouldn’t want to see what Skiles would think of that. Great win for the Bucks, though.

Remember when the NBA fined VC for wearing headphones during warmups? I think the next thing to be banned from the L will be twittering. “No twittering on company time”.

POPS! Pops Mensah-Bonsu had a career-high 21 yesterday for the Raptors. He’s just this burst of energy and fight and it is SO good to see that on the court in the ACC again. The crowd was loving him as much as they were loving the victory over the Pacers and his postgame interview was one of my favorite moments of this year.

Weird stat of the day: The Kings are 0-26 against the Eastern Conference this season. Crazy. And, awful. Just awful.

Gotta wrap this up quickly today because I’ve got a ton of stuff due for tomorrow. We’ll be back to recapping in full before you know it. I promise!

Also: Because of his technicals last night, it looks like Stephen Jackson will be missing the Warriors next game.

Be sure to check my Court Surfing blog this week because I’ve got a ton of stuff going up as I finish it.

The Raptors wore a green version of their uniforms yesterday for their  game against the Pacers and they ended up taking down Indiana 110-87. The Pacers fell apart in the third quarter after the Raptors outscored Indiana 37-19 in the period and received a huge boost from Pops Mensah-Bonsu. Pops finished with a career-high 21 points to go along with 8 rebounds as he shot 11-13 from the free throw line. Andrea Bargnani had 27 points and 11 rebounds and Jose Calderon added 15 points to go with 12 assists and 0 turnovers. The Pacers were led by Troy Murphy who had 16 points and 10 rebounds as TJ Ford scored 15 points and Jarrett Jack added 13.

Darko Milicic got a sliver of revenge as he dropped in 12 points and 11 rebounds in the Grizzlies 89-84 victory over the Pistons. The former Pistons draft pick was solid in the victory as the Pistons were outscored 26-16 in the third. Mike Conley scored 20 points and Rudy Gay added 15. Antonio McDyess led the Pistons wth 19 points and 12 rebounds. Kwame Brown had 13 rebounds and 5 steals off of the bench and Rip Hamilton scored 14 points to go with 12 assists, but struggled from the field, shooting just 6-19 from the floor.

In their race for the final playoff spot in the East, the Bucks know how important each game is. After two disappointing losses to the Knicks and Hornets, they knew they couldn’t afford another. Even if the Celtics were in town. Boston helped them out yesterday, shooting only 37% for the game and scoring only 14 points in the fourth as Milwaukee rolled to an 86-77 point victory. In between twittering at halftime, Charlie Villanueva led his team with 19 points while Richard Jefferson scored 17 and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute added 15 points. Kendrick Perkins was the only Celtic to have a strong game finishing with 26 points and 12 rebounds while Paul Pierce scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Blazers had Rudy Fernandez return to the court yesterday, but were unable to handle the Hawks, falling 98-80, as Joe Johnson had 35 points 7 rebounds and 6 assists. The Blazers had more turnovers (15), than assists (11). In comparison, Atlanta had 19 assists to only 5 turnovers. Josh Smith scored 19 points and Mike Bibby added 15. The Blazers were led by Brandon Roy’s 29 while LaMarcus Aldridge added 19.

Without Dwyane Wade being Superman of the Heat yesterday, his team fell to the Sixers, 85-77. While Miami led early in the fourth, with Wade on the bench the Sixers made an 11-2 run to take the lead. After playing a 3OT game yesterday against the Jazz, the Heat simply didn’t have the energy to compete with Philadelphia and managed only NINE points in the fourth quarter. Andre Igoudala scored 21 points for the Sixers as Thaddeus Young scored 17 and Andre Miller added 10 points to go with 11 assists. Jermaine O’Neal led the Heat offensively with 20 points as Udonis Haslem added 10 points and 11 rebounds and Wade added 18 points.

The Kings lost a close one to the Wizards last night, going down 106-104 as Antawn Jamison again topped 30 points for the Wizards. Washington jumped out to an early lead, scoring 37 points in the first quarter to take an eight point lead after one. The Kings would come back, but what was thought to be a game-tying three-pointer from Francisco Garcia with 3.8 seconds remaining in the game was ruled a two pointer and the Wizards hit a free throw to win the game by two after a three-point attempt from Kevin Martin was off the mark. Andray Blatche had 16 for Washington as Daruis Songaila added 15. Martin had  24 points for the Kings as Spencer Hawes had 20 points and 9 rebounds and Jason Thompson had a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double to go with 4 blocked shots in the loss.

The Magic rolled over the Jazz, 105-87 one day after Utah lost in triple-overtime to the Heat. Led by Dwight Howard’s 28 points and 20 boards, Orlando outrebounded Utah 60-44 as they connected on 11 threes as compared to only one for the Jazz. Rafer Alston scored 16 points to go with 6 assists for the Magic as Anthony Johnson added 14 off of the bench. Carlos Boozer had 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Jazz, Deron Williams scored 11 points to go with 9 assists and CJ Miles added 10 as Utah shot only 37% for the game.

Two rebounds shy of another triple-double, LeBron James led the Cavs to another win, this time against the Knicks. Now 3.5 games ahead of Boston in the East, the Cavaliers improved to 29-1 on their home floor this season. James finished with 19 points, 8 boards and 10 assists, adding in 4 steals and 3 blocked shots as Mo Williams added 23 points and Delonte West added 13. The Knicks were led by Al Harrington’s 26 points and 9 rebounds while Nate Robinson scored 20 points to go with 7 assists as he started for Chris Duhon. David Lee had 10 points and 14 rebounds and Larry Hughes added 15 for New York.

Despite losing Stephen Jackson in the third quarter after he decided to talk a little too much, the Warriors scored 130 points. In regulation. They also lost by 24 points. Yes, they were playing the Suns and they lost, 154-130. Giving up 42 points in the first quarter, Golden State allowed the Suns to top that, scoring 46 in the third as the Suns had 40 assists and only 12 turnovers. Jason Richardson scored 31 points for Phoenix as Shaquille O’Neal added 26, Matt Barnes had 20 to go with 11 assists and Leandro Barbosa added 21 off of the bench. Steve Nash had 11 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. The Warriors were led by 26 points from Monta Ellis. Corey Maggette scored 21, Kelenna Azubuike added 18 and Jamal Crawford scored 17 in the loss that mathematically eliminated the Warriors from the playoffs.

Wow, a barrage of NBA news there. So glad to see Pops Mensah Bonsu get 21 – his full name has something to do with literally meaning “the whale killer king”…crazy.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Was surprised at the unselfish attitude B-Diddy displayed on that Buzzerbeater by Novak, making that extra pass. Whole thing was initiated by Eric Gordon’s wild (dare i say reckless) drive into the teeth of the Nets D. Good for Novak with 21 points and the game winner, pure joy on his face was a good thing to witness. Not enough to laugh about in clipperville this season. How long is Dash out for?

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

    Whale killer king? really? wow.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Man, the Bucks really need to consider trading away Redd next season. They have a totally different personality without him, and honestly, Charlie V as the man is pretty effective (and charlie v as the second option is prety awful).
I mean, during the SLAM top 50, when all the writers were telling us how bad Redd’s defense was, I didn’t really believe them until watching the Bucks with Redd and without.

Anyone see L.A. and Dallas? The Jet Terry just kept knoking 3 after 3 down. If it wasent for pau or ariza Dallas could have won. Novaks buzzer-beater was nice… I think that somewhat makes up for the Zach play a few days back

Syracuse getting a 3 seed surprised me.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

    1) Lakers’ D is SUSPECT. For some reason, they don’t close out well on shooters. JT was open on most of his attempts and the Mavs missed a bunch of open j’s. 2) How can a guy go 10 for 10 in the 1st half and get 3 looks at the basket in the 2nd? I mean, damn, run something for Pau on the block! 3) The Cavs haven’t been playing like the Cavs lately, giving up 110 points and all. Boobie, welcome to the dog house.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Twittering at half time is ridiculous. Focus, mayne! I just can’t see an elite player doing that (besides Gil).

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

The Cavs need a back-up pg. A real one. Not a shooter trapped in a 12-year old body. I’m getting fed up with Boobie. Yes, he can light it up once in a blue moon but his inability to run the team puts so much pressure on Delonte who’s basically the starting 2 and the back up 1. If he goes down, the Cavs are DONE.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

According to Bloomberg, Brett Yormark said the team will overcome economic concerns and legal opposition to move to the $1 billion arena designed by architect Frank Gehry. / So the Nets are facing 2 lawsuits, the economy is down, Brooklynites don’t even want the team like that (I mean are they really NOT gonna root for the Knicks?) but Ratner wants to go through with this. Um, okay. Not to mention that they’re going to expropriate people.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

I really like the Cavs the way they are. Giving playing time to Sasha and Wallyworld is way better than Gibson.

Marcus Camby is a piece of isht. I just hope Devin Harris’ shoulder injury isn’t too serious. And oh yeah, nice to se Jukai realizing that Michael Redd is garbage. But since he’s probably one of the worst value’s in the league with his deal, the Bucks are likely stuck with him (AND they won’t be able to resign Chollie)

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Ciolk: I didn’t see the play. Did Camby pull and Ariza, or aws it more of a freak accident?

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Sasha has shown glimpses, but I still would not want to depend on productive minutes in the playoffs from a guy who shoots about 40% from the field for his career.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Camby just took a really hard swipe and got ALL arm, Jukai.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

But I think Devin actually injured the shoulder by landing hard on it, taking a tough fall. Early reports say sprained or seperated shoulder (is there a difference?), XRays were negative though, and he’s set for an MRI today.

Any bracket busters, sleepers, predictions, etc… from the SLAM crack commenting staff? March Madness pools are one of the few aspects of office culture I can really get behind.

  • http://iwantoutofokc.com/ James the balla

@Holly, are you talking about T BEar?

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Well… Camby’s just one of those old school centers who doesn’t draw charges and tries to swipe at everything, ala Hakeem and Mutombo. Unfortunately, he’s not as precise as Hakeem and Mutombo.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

So has pretty much every PF he’s tried to guard this season, B. Where’s Dark at now, with all his self satisfied Dirk love?

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Camby’s not on the level of Hakeem or Mutombo, and IMO its not even a matter of precision. Those guys used their length like a wall rather than taking reckless swipes at the ball while it still in the offensive players hands.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Ciol: I actually called Villanova as one of my sleepers before the brackets were announced. It was nice of the committee to let Nova play in Philly, essentially giving them home games for their first 2 games.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Izzo

Is the SLAM bracket on again this year?

  • http://iwantoutofokc.com/ James the balla

@Holly … if it is T Bear. Everybody is so hyped on him. I ahven’t seen him play in 2 years maybe. But when we played on an elite team out of high school, he was just a ball hog, with no jumper. He is quick as fucl< and has raw talent. But … my team and his team always met up at the championship game in HIU, down in Halifax!!

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

Zona over Utah, BU over Duke(I wish).

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Surprised to see no Saint Mary’s in the bracket. I guess Saint Mary’s fate was pretty much sealed with Mills. Too bad. Can’t really find any other team that got screwed over too badly.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Izzo

    Minny over Texas.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Michigan over Clemson (yes, i’m a homer)

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Co-sign ciolkstar. Sasha is really talented and he offers solutions for the Cavs. He has some pretty nice moves off the dribble and he can defend the 2. BUT he often gives you the deer-in-headlights look in crunch time situations.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

When I said I prefered Wally/Sasha over Gibson, I didn’t mean to say I wanted him in a game with a second left down by two in the 4th. I’d just rather see him get 10-20 minutes of burn a game, instead of Boobie getting it. He’s a better defender, better without the ball, and once in a while he throws a nice highlight pass, which I can’t say for Gibson even though he’s technically a one.
In the crunch, it should be Mo/West/Lebron/AndersonWallaceSubstition/Z or Mo/West/Wally/Lebron/Z. Sasha’s just a nice piece to the puzzle

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Plus it would be great to see Sasha v Sasha in the Lakers/Cavs Finals. That matchup would be more exciting than Kobe and Lebron!

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

I think Michigan has a good shot against Clemson, if they take care of the ball, TAD.
Zona over BYU is pretty much a lock, IMO
    Miny over Texas ain’t happening

I think Gonzaga could get past UNC if Lawson isn’t 100%, and I like Kansas if the can get past West Virginia early.

The toughest 1st round matchup for me to call is definitely Tennesse vs OKlahoma State.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Sasha is the better defender on big wings, but Boobie probably matches up better with the Lakers Sasha. I’m not a fan of Gibson’s, even though he’s an ex Longhorn. I remember being really surprised when he came out after his feshman year and even more surprised at how well he played for the Cavs in that crazy playoff run. He’s a streak shooter, and really doesn’t do much else to help the team win. He’s been cold for a while now, but when he’s hot he can be a game changer. I just don’t think Sasha is a much better option, he turns the rock over A LOT and is a subpar rebounder for his size.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

I need to start filling out my bracket. North Dakota State anyone?

  • http://iwantoutofokc.com/ James the balla

Where can we fill out a bracket?

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Ciolk: he’s not a subpar rebounder, he’s just not getting any rebounds with Z/Wallace/Anderson/Lebron grabign them all. Outside of that, you’re right on everything you said. You have a point about Laker wings, but Boobie gets burned a lot on the inside, and I’m worried about Farmar/Fisher downright abusing him.

    UNC FTW

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Mike Brown likes Bron at the 4 at the end of games. He’s really limiting Z’s minutes. Last night, he went with Mo/West/Sasha/Lebron/Andy. That’s their best defensive unit by far. With their 3 best shooters (percentage-wise on the perimeter). I’d still go with Wally instead of Sasha, though. / Jukai, don’t you think they’re asking too much out of Delonte?

Hawks have won 5 in a row. We’ve just beaten Utah, Detroit, New Orleans, and Portland (we pretty much dominated the Blazers yesterday). And Indiana. And I’m sure about 4 people on here care.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Z: They probably are. I’m hoping the Cavs can get some big separation between the Celtics so they can rest him with Lebron and Z, while also having a very easy first round. West is really the only true one, and probably -THE- best defender (until Wallace gets back), so yeah, he’s desperately needed on the Cavs.
The one other thing to think about though, is that once the playoffs come around, Lebron plays a lot more and takes control of the ball a heluva lot more, taking pressure off West.

    Eboy is grumpy.
I was listening to NBA TV the other day, and Eric Snow was talking about the NBA’s Trinity.
He said that DWade seems to work the hardest to put up big numbers like 50+ points. He also said that they way Wade gets his buckets, by constantly attacking, means his career is going to be much shorter than Bron’s or Kobe’s.
Anyway, I’ve heard that before, but I thought it was interesting. I wondered why Snow didn’t talk about Iverson and what he didn’t to avoid injuries and maintain most of his quickness.

Were you at the game yesterday, Co Co? I really enjoyed it (except for the traffic from the ACC Tournament… brilliant of them to have the Hawks game AND the Duke game both at 1 PM). That was about as complete a Hawks performance as I’ve seen all year.

Tad, I’ve got notes coming on your Pistons that should be up on Court Surfing tomorrow.

Myung, glad you got to see your guys put together a solid effort.
Izzo, I could do without you punching Jonny in the face, but I’ll agree, he would be fine.

  • http://mindyourbusiness@getalife.com Allenp

    Eboy
Everybody’s right. Outside of the Spurs and Jazz, who should the Lakers fear. In the West, I mean. In the East, the Cavs and Celtics can still beat them.
You know what would suck? If the Spurs stay in the second spot and the Nuggets stay at seventh.
Because I don’t see the Nuggets beating the Spurs, no matter what Chauncey does. And then, the Nuggets will have lost in the first round once again. That would really suck, wouldn’t it?
God, please let this happen. Thanks, Allen.

eboy, c’mon bro? I know we’ve got a lot of home games this month, but how is playing Utah (who had a 12 game winning streak coming in), New Orleans (who had a 7 game winning streak coming in), Detroit (playing much better lately, not counting sundays), and Portland (only the 4th best team in the West before tip off yesterday) an easy schedule? Later this month, we’ve got 4 out of 5 where we have to play the Spurs, Lakers, Cavs, and Celtics.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Izzo

Holly:In fairness,it would be my fist that would need attention.Still surprised that ‘Cuse got a 3 seed. They still don’t have an easy run,a probable meeting with Arizona st,then Oklahoma,if they make it past OK,then they’ll in all likelyhood have UNC.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Jukai…..not offended by your density (that’s expected)but to think that there is no chance for ANY other team to get by a team that a)plays no defense and b)has a bench that has completley fallen off (espcially now with Ariza not as that burst from the bench)is just simply stupid. It doesn’t matter who that may be…..just thinking that a team will roll over because they’re playing the Lakers is insulting to whoever meets them.

Eboy, nobody is rolling over. I just don’t think that anybody in the West can beat the Lakers except SA. Yes, they’re soft and the bench is weaker than last year. (Seems like Sasha, Farmar and Walton have all regressed) HOWEVER, they’re talented as fvck. SA can match up with them. Utah? may-be if Kirilenko gets his mind right. Outside of those two? • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Your right Eboy, how silly of me to think the team with the reigning NBA, the deepest bench, and the former MVP would be the front runners in the western conference. That you for awakening me from my ignorance. Let’s all start talking about any of the other teams that are over eight games away from the Lakers’ record.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Ciolk: “self satisfied Dirk love”? What, so i’m supposed to comment on the ALL 82 games Dirk plays great or not? Traditionally he used to own Pau when he was playing in Memphis but the Mavs generally tend to lose against Kob’s cronies lately. He had a bad shooting night, meh. Why don’t ya go harass Eboy and tell him how subpar Flash was yesterday, especially compared to his stellar past week? Come on, you don’t like Dirk, that’s cool, don’t try bashing me cause i do, that a’int changing sh*t.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

replace one of those “former MVP” statements with “best record” and you had what I was going for. Mooooondays.

  • low powered attorney

Hey Allenp, I remember Bibby saying when he was with the Kings that playing in the NBA ages you faster. In response to your question ‘I wondered why Snow didn’t talk about Iverson and what he didn’t (do) to avoid injuries and maintain most of his quickness’,I think it was play straight up D. (steals be damned)….

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Are you rooting for the Lakers now too, Ju Ju? Can’t decide on them or the Cavs. And you are sorely lacking in your deepest bench comment knowledge. There’s nothing deep about their bench except the drop off from the starters talent level to theirs. Dummmy. Oh…Hi Myles!

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Why do I have to be ‘rooting’ for the Lakers to think they’re above and beyond the best team in the west? If any team (outside of San Antonio) takes out the Lakers, I will be as happy as a million bucks. That doesn’t mean I’m not ignorant to the fact that the Lakers are head and shoulders above their competition. Could they lose? Yes. Will they lose? Magic eightball says “not likely.”
Maybe Darksaber was onto something, maybe Eboy’s just tantruming because Wade’s back finally broke from carrying his team.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Wade was just chilling from celebrating his inclusion into the MVP talk by the mainstream media last week (and some of the best individual performances this season). He’ll be back to his old cutting, slicing dissecting, dunking self in no time.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Dark, it was just that for about a week after the little “debate” we had on Dirk here you were congratulating the sh!t out of yourself because the Mavs got a couple of wins with Dirk putting up some numbers, just wanted to see where you stood with that talk now.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

…and reading all those comments E does seem a little prickly today. It really is the Lakers, Spurs and MAYBE the Nuggs if Kenyon gets healthy and JR and Kleiza play more efficiently. The Jazz will need to be a 4 seed to get much done in the playoffs, they are just incredibly bad on the road. I really want to like Ariza but as long as he keeps brutalizing the Spurs, I’ll have no choice but to start hating him. He is literally more atheletic than the entire Spurs team put together. The front office in SA has been very shrewd, but they have seriously ignored the need for youth and atheleticism in the game today. We did draft George Hill, but I’m just unsure about the teams’ future unless we get some more young talent. This season could really be our last chance, and I think we’ll play with more desperation than the Fakeshow once that inevitable matchup goes down.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Oh, that? I still stand by the Dirkster, good times or bad, my man. If i can appreciate the player through the two major playoff fiascos they’ve had AND his team’s showing in Beijing, i’m not about to start wailing about a loss to the perceived “juggernaut” boys in yellow/purple. But you ARE right, i always come to his defense, and it didn’t start last week, always been like that since people here loved to bash him. Sorry, can’t change that about myself. And just as much as others like to gloat when their favorites play well, i thought i’d try that out after our little “discussions” two weeks ago. Refreshing, i must say.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Oh and how do i, a longtime semipro baller who has never been anywhere near the level of an nba player (as most here are, i’m guessing) get to “congratulate myself” on his good showings last week. Puhleeze, as if i could. Dude did all that on his own in those important wins.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Dark….to be fair…..he was pretty nonexistent in the 4th quarter yesterday. If he would have done ANYTING…they could have pulled the upset.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Let me just start by saying; If you’re a “semi-pro player” then you are leaps and bounds better than I’ve ever been at our beloved game, and I’ll give you respect for that. But you did make posts about how Dirk had basically diproved the criticisms put forth by myself (and others) by putting up some big numbers in a couple Mavs wins. But, its all good. You gotta root for your guys, just like everyone else root for their’s. And I’ll admit that being a Dirk fan that frequents these boards has to be frustrating as hell, so I shouldn’t blame you for bragging a little when he plays well. But, I still feel that same about Dirk as I did last week, as I’m sure you do.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

E: Sadly i missed the game, so he pulled one of his “houdini” numbers yesterday? Strange, he’s been having fantastic scoring binges in the 4th since January…

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

…And I’ll just say that I interpreted “semi-pro” as meaning that you’ve been paid to play, maybe not much, but paid nonetheless.
And yeah, E. It was all Jet yesterday…Dirk was non existant.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Ciolk: that is a fair assumption and much respect to you for that. I’m not here trying to change opinions on multimillionaires playing a kids game, god knows i envy the guy for his freedoms etc. What’s the cliché phrase for this: “agree to disagree”?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I don’t know if it was a combination of Pau bothering him by playing him close at the three and maybe trying to play a back seat role to Terry who WAS hot….but he needed to step up and make a few plays…..and he wound up just shooting really forced threes and not making any.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

@Ciolk: ohh yeah, if the chicken change i used to get in europe for playing could be called “paid”, then yes, i got some pocket money for balling. Hehe.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Damn, i hate when Pau comes out of his comfort zone to defend outside shooters and Dirk can’t take advantage cause unlike in Memphis, Pau has those damn lanky guys (Odom, Ariza, Kobe) with their quick hands and feet ready to cut off any drives. Oh well, Phil always sets up nice against Nowitzki, and so far Dallas has bounced back from tough losses. Hope they make the playoffs.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

E: also missed the Miami game. Any thoughts on Flash’s average performance against Charlie V’s guys? i’m so used to seeing 30+/10+ from him lately, i was quite surprised to see his stat line (and FG%)

  • http://www.slamonline.com Myles Brown

    Defense? Nah.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Yes….Myles….there was a three minute spurt of D…..amazing….after they let a team with no business being in the game come all the way back and then pulling the game out with Sunday officiating going their way to end it. FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Dark…..speaking to someone who is basketball coherent….the back to back grind of 1:00p games and the previous game playing most of a three overtime game just wore on him…..he played really under control….didn’t force too much…and played very limited minutes in comparison. He was obviously tired…..but unlike the idiots the posted “he’s now finished for the season” earlier….it’s just a average game from dude…..and it’s an abbaration in the dude’s resume since the All Star break.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Myles Brown

Theres been more than a three minute spurt of defense and the numbers bear that fact out as Ive shown you before. For the pace the Lakers play comparable to other top defensive teams, theyre actually more than a respectable defensive unit. Their biggest problem is defending the perimeter, and thats what got Dallas back in the game, thanks to a hot hand from Jason Terry. It took 7 threes from him to keep them in the contest. And if thats the defenses biggest weakness sans Bynum, then Ill take it. But feel free to fly in the face of reason and results and keep the salt coming.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Thought it might have been that scenario. He also probably relaxed a bit mentally when he saw Milwaukee on the schedule, tough to get that edge back in-game when you’ve practically mapped out a sure win beforehand. Would have been a great opportunity for the rest of the team to pick up the slack though, although Jermaine’s Stats seemed quite good. Oh well, a solid month of regular season games left.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Sorry Myles…….you are right as ususal. I’ll be sure to read your Lakers championship recap post with a huge interest as I did last season.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Jermaine’s getting better by the game…..Jamario has all of sudden went into some form of an eclipse….which makes his inital five game run seem like a long time ago.

If youve got your crabby pants on today, thats fine. But lets not pretend that Im some fanboy who is breathlessly proclaiming that everything is over before its even started. It would be just as silly as disregarding the best record in the league with empty sarcasm.

For better understanding, Moon’s initial run was bad, right? I see fairly consistent stats from him lately.

Dark, actually Moon’s first few games showed a ton of promise….his last few have not.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

    gotcha.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Maybe Eric’s trying to limit Beasley’s Minutes to protect him from hitting the rookie wall. Might be nice if that was the case and it was explained to the young cat ahead so he could keep his spirits up. suddenly giving him more minutes in the playoffs might be a nice shot in the arm for the Heat offense.

Ah, the rare moments in SLAM history where I actually root for Myles. Mondays!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Uhm…..doubtful. He just get’s lost in rotaions on D and that bugs the sh*t out of Spoelstra. The problem I have as a fan is Chalmers has made just as many boneheaded plays on the offensive end…..and is never really reprimanded for it. It’s a bit of a short sighted notion.

You love me and you know it. Its okay. Itll be our secret.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Eboy, you’re tripping. Seriously, everybody knows that you hate the Lakers but you’re the one that’s not being coherent. They’re tied for the best record in the L, they won the west last year and they have the reigning MVP. Is it really a stretch to suggest that they are strong favorites to get to the Finals again? No, of course not. Can the Spurs beat them? Yeah sure. Why you mad?

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Ah well, enough of second guessing players and coaching decisions (Bass as 8th man, really Rick?), i’m off. Have fun Slam-Fam. Stay off the salt, whitehot.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Oh and the Lakers not closing out on shooters is going to really hurt them sooner or later. The Mavs had TONS of open Js yesterday. The fact that Terry hit seven 3s is not an abberation. He was open on most of his attempts. Give an excellent shooter 16 tries and he’s prolly gonna hit 7.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Z….I’m done with the nonsense….seriously. I come to the SLAM site and the mag (for 15 years) because of the no so popular views on the game they always had. This site and the majority of it’s writers has gone in a direction that is no longer that way….and it’s just disheartening to a SLAM lifer is all. Myles should recognize this….but obviously his “fanboyness” doesn’t allow for perspective.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

What’s your argument? That the Lakers are NOT the favorites to come out of the West? You’ve been saying all morning that people weren’t knowledgeable but what is the point you’re arguing?

Eboy Posted: Mar.16 at 11:30 am
I like how all you 15 year olds think the West has no other team that can make a run.

Nobody really said that. Everybody knows that SA can make a run. IMO, Utah don’t have it in them. Who else do you got?

I’d be tempted to say that you’re just being a prick for no good reason. You DO have some kind of personal vendetta against LA because you never fail to mention their shortcomings. I ain’t mad, I don’t like Kob either.. but that doesn’t stop me from being objective.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

The arrogant swag and jerkoff winks and ball dances after big shots e? Hey man I’m not trying to start cause you’re my legit friend but sometimes I think you just want the Lakers and Kobe to fail so much that you fail to admit any good qualities they possess. I’m trying to be objective their defense isn’t on the level of the cavs or celtics but is it going to lose them games? It really hasn’t so far so until I see otherwise I can’t say they’re gonna be anywhere but the finals. They’re the best team in the conference and imo its not close. The spurs are closing the gap and match up well with them but other than that I just don’t see anyone knocking them off.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

I’m thinking E is just tired of people talking about the Lakers in the Finals as a foregone conclusion. He just has more of a chip on his shoulder than most.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Uhm…..this is said around here pretty often by a lot of us…..reading comprehension is obviously something alot of us have missed in life. If you couldn’t pick out the particular things I was critical of the Team Incredible then perhaps there’s no reason to continue this discussion. Let’s talk about college ball again or something.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Nooooo, i don’t watch enough NCAA to participate in mammoth college ball discussions.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

I’m guessing Eboy’s anger is a little bit broader; it’s the constant news feed and discussion bombardment and media love fest that the main teams (Lakers, Cavaliers, Celtics) and main players (Kobe, Lebron, Paul) get compared to the rest of the basketball universe. SLAM used to be a bit more inclusive.
Also, it’s that time of the month.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Myles Brown

Isnt that the point? The things you pointed out-defense, the bench, Kobes propensity for long range shots-arent necessarily true. Ive shown you countless stats on the defense and acknowledged their shortcomings, but you continually speak of them as if theyre the Suns or the Warriors. The bench is statistically and realistically one of the best in the league-which might contribute to, ahem, the leagues best record-yet you dismiss them as though theyre worthless. And as far as Kobe and his jumpers, hes shooting a career high in FG%.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Uhm….kind of…but not really TAD. It’s just boring everyday is all. If people show love to CAvs…who have the same record….it’s like an insult to the Lakers. THAT’S THE CRUX OF THE PROBLEM, LAKERS FANS CAN’T TAKE CRITICISM. There is not argument about that. TAD….how did it feel for a month to hear your team sucked….I know how it was last year for the Heat….but you took it right….and tried backing it up with reasons as to why they struggled. Try that with Lakers fans. It just doesn’t apply.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

I would get in another college discussion again, but i’m quite sure half of the people on here would groan.

Sure I did. If your point was that youll continually disregard any and all rational thought that applies to the Lakers.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Myles, you can pull out any stat about the Lakers’ D or bench but anyone can see with a naked eye that: A) They don’t close out on shooters and teams can drive on them without any repercussions B) Farmar, Walton and Vujacic are playing like doo-doo.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

On a good note tad , dice is playing like he’s 25 and rip is dropping dimes like he’s a point guard or something maybe they can build off that.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    Hi Izzo. I don’t have a guess.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Oh, and I prefer ppg allowed and opp fg% to ‘pace’.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Shia…..in a moment of seriousness, my Bird comment comes on the obvious move to the perimiter Kobe’s game has become so comfortable with. In the Lakers biggest moments this season, and in their closet games….his three point propensity is really frustrating. obviously I’m not a fan of dude….but I know what he can do on the floor…and to see one of the games most prolific scorers just take and make threes from all angles with any number of defenders on him….when we know he can do so much more is maddening. Does he make his fair share……sure. But we ALL saw how that worked for them last year in the Finals and anyone that thinks that Kobe Bird is going to be the catalyst for a title playing that role against hard nosed defensive teams like the Celts, Spurs or Cavs is just dense and that’s what any opposing team would want him to be…a most of the time three point shooter.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Shia, Rip and Dice have been playing great. However, if any can find Rodney Stuckey’s game, please return it to him. There will be a reward for the finder.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Myles Brown

Word. I think theyve done better at playing the paint lately, but the perimeter remains a problem. And I think those guys are struggling to find out what their roles are. Theyre continually forcing shots and trying to do more than theyre capable of. Hopefully theyll come around. Especially Sasha. Id hate to have to kill him.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Myles Brown

And if youre going to consider PPG allowed then you have to consider pace, since a faster pace will score-and allow-more points. Opp FG% is a good stand alone statistic though.

TAD….what do you think AI’s impact will be once (when is he coming back?) he’s back in the lineup?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Myles Brown

One more stab at logic, for the record. Kobe Bryant is taking 4 threes per game this season, his lowest number in four years. Comparably, Bron takes 4.8 and Wade takes 3.4

Maybe when Iverson comes back keep him off the ball and run the offense through rip since stuckey isn’t playing well anymore. And I like dice better than sheed at this point he’s rebounding defending and actually scoring from the post and not jacking up threes. That makes sense also E. I will say this, I don’t think they get in, but if by some miracle the suns make the playoffs the Lakers or any team besides the spurs who wants to see them. Mark it down.

  • http://www.kicksonfire.com Anton

@ Z: what are you talking about, mang? For the first time in months, Boobs didn’t miss a shot!

While Russ’s humor is so funny….he is also not one of the many Lakers fans that now seem to run the everyday working of the site. So, thanks Russ.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Charles Barkley touched on this during the game against PHX. But the Cavs do have to speed it up, I don’t know if Mike Brown or LeBron is to blame but why does LBJ need to dribble near halfcourt for 5 seconds before going into the setplay? At the start of the year, they were running backdoors and curls for LeBron to catch it on the move at the heart of the defense. They’d run this box low where he would flash to the T and sweep to the hoop. That’s basically unstoppable. They have gone away from that. Mike Brown can be maddening with his lack of imagination for O sets sometimes. / How does Mensah-Bonsu not stick with an NBA team?! The guy is a monster inside. He wants rim EVERYTIME. Really needed on the Toronto Softies.

Wouldn’t want to see them, Shia? I don’t know….if that had STAT they might be scary for a few games….but they just can’t beat an elite team twice in a seven game series, IMO.

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

Please point out all the Laker fans who run the site. Since I’m not part of the Nicholson cabal (Bulls fans stand up!), I’m not privy to all their names. If anything, I think there’s a preponderance of LeBron LeBooosterz on here—which isn’t that odd considering he might be the best player alive.

Run…..should have read populate…..or provide the day to day coverage as it stands. My bad….and I know of no SLAM writer (besides Jones) that goes hard for the Cavs.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

I dunno dude I know it was the warriors but 154 points? If Bynum doesn’t come back who matches up with shaq? And as long as nash is playing like he has been fisher can’t stop him either. The lakers play better defense than the suns but everyone is saying D is their weakness so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them have some bigger teams on the ropes.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

E: I have no clue how they plan on using AI when he comes back. If I were to gather a guess, the most he will do is bring the ball up the court and then play off the ball. Curry has been running the offense with Rip as a distributor and he seems to be thriving in that role. Stuckey has even been playing off the ball a lot. Bynum has played good off the bench since AI has been hurt. Honestly, I fully expect Iverson to get arounf 25-28 minutes off the bench, not the 35+ he is used to getting.

I still want to know how the Pistons got a guy that is so close to Lindsey Hunter in his game (Bynum).

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

On the ropes? Let’s see them make it first.

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

I guess I just don’t see how people suggesting that the team with a) the best record in the West, b) the defending MVP and c) a trip to the Finals under their belt, are most likely to make a return trip as being evidence of some sort of overwhelming bias. Didn’t they just kick the crap out of the Spurs? If anything, it’s tremendously biased the other way to say the Lakers aren’t the favorites to come out of the West.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Um, about the only thing that Bynum and Lindsey have in common are height (even though Lindsey has 3 inches in Will) and they both play guard. Will is ok at defense, but Lindsey was one of the best on-the-ball defenders ever. Also, Hunter was a scoring machine at Jackson State and his jumper was much, much better than Bynum’s. If anything, Afflalo is more like Lindsey (mostly in defense).

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    * ON Will (no homo)

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Bynum looks the part on defense. He’s low, his hands are moving, he bodies up his man but people get by him. At least, for the few times that I saw him this year.

  • http://www.kicksonfire.com Anton

Alvin Gentry = coach of the year. In between timeouts, he pulls Steve Nash aside and the camera follows them. So I’m thinking, sweet, a behind-the-scenes look, maybe telling Nash to run some plays, sub on defense, or complain less.
Gentry’s exact words: “Alright let’s go now…let’s get 115, okay? Okay let’s go.”
You could almost hear all Suns fans collectively adding an entry to their “F*ck My Life” page.

  • BostonBaller

Let’s not put the Caves in the Finals just yet…I just got off the phone w/ Kev and he “whispered” a few choice words then cleared his throat. He says HE WILL BE BACK and he will be ANGRY!!!! He may bring Big Scal & TA with him. The Spurs still want another trophy and the Lakers better hope they don’t run into the Blazers..No one wants to play the Hawks for 7 games. Go Celtics!!!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Z….I kind of got that same feeling from Bynum….but TAD would know better than us…I’ve only seen him in about 6 or 7 games.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Boston….I’d like to think that the Celts will be helped by KG’s prolonged rest in the long run…..but part of their dominant mystique from last year is lacking today. They need to fix that real quick in the next 30 days.

Thats what I thought, I have not seen Bynum gaurd a high caliber offensive player for 1 possession all season and was confused where the lindsay hunter comparison came from

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

If I were the Lakers, I’d be PRAYING that the Suns make the eighth spot of the playoffs. Who, oh pray god tell me, who in the world is going to guard Kobe on that squad?
Not to mention, without Amare, Shaq is absolutely worthless in the post. The Spurs figured how to pick and roll Parker around Nash/Duncan and freeze Shaq up (who doesn’t know whether to run up to the guard and let in a backdoor or stay where he is and give a guy an open jumper).
Plus, and I don’t want to sound like ONE OF THOSE NASTY LAKERS FRONT RUNNERS, but I think the Lakers’ll regain just a BIT of their defensive intensity come playoffs

  • nbk

The question is will Gasol carry the offensive load he has been during the regular season. And is Kobe going to be able to pick his spots at the right times this year. He has been brilliant and a little dumb in recent years. Lakers Spurs/Jazz in the CF will be fun.

  • http://mindyourbusiness@getalife.com Allenp

I just learned recently that Larry Bird did not shoot a lot of threes.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Did anybody else catch Lamar’s bone-headed play at the end of the game. JVG called him out on it. He drove the lane with his team up 5 and less than 24 seconds to go. Phil pulled him out, I was laughing my -ss off.

  • BostonBaller

Z: Don’t underestimate T Allen. EBoy: I too think that a rested and UNcaged KG will be a good thing for Mmy C’s. There are a lot of bench guys getting some quality minutes regardless of the L’s & W’s so I’ll chill and wait for the playoffs. I still think we can gain and pass the Cavs in the record department if the Cavs’ home cooking gets food poisoning.

  • http://mindyourbusiness@getalife.com Allenp

The Suns could have challenged the Lakers if Amare was healthy, but without Amare, the Lakers should crush whatever team gets the eighth spot.
I think it’s safe to say there is no magic formula to fix the Pistons. They are disjointed, they can’t maintain leads and quite a few players seem to be going through the motions. And, I’m wondering if the problem with Stuckey is that everybody got the scouting report on him, and now they realize he loves going right, can’t really shoot, and is a somewhat reluctant passer.
And Sheed is dead to me.
And, while the Lakers are kind of soft, they were soft last year and got to the Finals. Don’t see how they fail this year. Spurs are a little to old.
And I want the Nuggets to lose in the first round. Not because I hate Denver, I don’t. But, I need them to fail.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Allen, that hate for the Nuggs is pretty wild.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

He needs validation, I can respect that. It’s honest.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Allen: Stuckey is not a reluctant passer. To be honest, he has been TOO unselfish. Also, Stuckey not being able to shoot jumpers is getting old. He can shoot. I’m thinking the issue is in his head. For all intents and purposes, this is really Stuckey’s rookie season, since he was injured or a backup last season. He has hit a wall of sorts, but it is mental, not anything physical.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I’m going to remember to use that backup line, TAD, next year with Beasley.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

NBA Hotspots shows that he’s a deadly shooter from straight away (over 50% from the Ts, top of the key and 3 point range!) and kinda whack from everywhere else.

  • nbk

Z: It’s only possible if Manu really never comes fully back this season. I guess the game plan becomes contain Parker, let Duncan shoot his heart out, clamp down on rest of team. Denver has been missing something lately, I have absolutely no idea what it is, it honestly might be Billups… his shot has gotten worse all season and it seems to be effecting everything.

What role will Gooden play for them….will he wind up in a starting spot once he’s in the rotation for a while and bring Bonner and Thomas off the bench?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

E: Not a line, just truth. Stuckey was injured in preseason his first season and was out until over a month into the season. He plays the PG position, which anyone will say is a tough position, especially if you aren’t a “true” point.

Yeah, I like the Nuggets. I really do. But they have had some really bad losses recently. When they struggle to score for even one qaurter early, the game is basically over for them. The Spurs may be old and rickety, but the D and three point shooting gives us a chance to win every night, even if we play like booty for the first half/3qtrs…

  • nbk

Depends on Manu E. It makes sense, if Manu is back then Matt Bonner will be able to come off the bench and play with the second unit because his offense and the spacing he creates with Manu makes up for his defensive issues. Gooden would then be able to start but if Manu is still on the shelf Gooden will have to come off the bench because Bonner creates Space for Parker and Duncan with Manu out since they will have to carry a bigger role.

I can’t imagine Gooden starting for the Spurs after joining them so late this year. It’s gotta be Bonner, or if they wanna go big, Oberto. If they bring him back, maybe Gooden gets to start next year.

  • http://www.kicksonfire.com Anton

Spurs look so done. I know their season starts during the playoffs, but the evidence is there. Cite health as an issue if you please, but then again, Manu isn’t much healthier at this point. Also, their team is aging a little more than they would have liked. They still lost to L.A. earlier the previous week, Bruce Bowen is a shell of his former self, and the team does seem to be a little on the low side in general. Tony Parker is the youngest of the stars, but I’m sure Tim is still a threat at 32. Aside from that, George Hill is a nice prospect but still a little young. Guys like Matt Bonner can’t really compete against a lot of athleticism. Finley is even a little older than he’d like probably.
They can still get it done if they execute flawlessly but their stock to come out on top is very low.
