The Post Up: Lovely LeBron

Yes, another LBJ title. He’s just that good.

by Holly MacKenzie

Tell me this, is anyone going to grab a road win in Cleveland before the regular season ends?

Honestly, the Cavs look damn unstoppable on their homefloor. Last night was no exception as the Blazers managed to force overtime only to have LeBron claim his 7th triple-double this season and also steal back the win.

Skeets said last night, “Please stop trying to tell me LeBron James isn’t this season’s MVP. You sound like a fool.” I don’t think I can disagree with this statement.

LeBron isn’t fair. He is just that good. Too good.

He finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists and 2 blocked shots last night.

LUUUUUUKE dunking over Ronny Turiaf really was too much for me. My heart almost jumped out of my chest because I was so surprised. Really, Luke Walton!

The refs really let the calls go in that Lakers/Warriors game and it got kind of ugly.

It was great to see Monta continue to work his way back and find his rhythm.

Could the Suns possibly make the playoffs? They’ve got to face Dallas once more this season and are currently 3.5 games back after the Mavs lost in ATL last night. It just doesn’t seem right to imagine the Suns watching from home.

The Bobcats are in town tonight and I’ve got to say, I think I’m the biggest Raja Bell fan who is also a Kobe fan. Actually, I’m probably top five Raja Bell fans, family included.

Quote of the night: “His jersey is longer than his drawers” -Chris Webber on Inside, speaking on Charles Barkley’s short-shorts and long jersey combo.

Can I just say once more how much I enjoy the presence of Chris Webber on Inside, NBATV and anywhere else that he feels like showing up? He’s fantastic.

Day one of the tourney is in the books, how’d you all do? I’m sure a lot of you were here, checking in with Justin Walsh and his liveblogging, but, tell me, favorite moment of yesterday? I’ve already had a few that have killed me, seeing the guys who lose, with their face in hands, jersey pulled up to cover tears, that just rips me. In a good way though. It makes me appreciate the game so much more.

Thoughts are with Coach Calhoun who, according to Charlie V’s twitter account, will be coaching today. Either way, thinking of him and wishing him health and wellness.

Cleveland 97 Portland 92 OT

After a disgustingly brutal first half that saw Cleveland lead, 36-34 (yes, at the half), the Blazers managed to stick with the Cavs despite being without LaMarcus Aldridge and Nicolas Batum. In the fourth, it appeared as though LeBron James would lead the Cavs to the win as he knocked down back to back shots to put his team up 86-82 with 34 seconds remaining but the craftiness of Brandon Roy drew back to back fouls on James and Roy then hit four free throws to tie the game up and force overtime. In the extra session however, the shorthanded Blazers stumbled, and went down by five before scoring their first basket of the period. By then, James had found his rhythm again and knocked down two more shots, including a beauty jump hook in the lane. Game over, Cleveland wins. Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 21 points for the Cavs while Joe Smith and Mo Williams each added 12. The Blazers had a 24-point, 7-rebound, 7-assist night from Brandon Roy, 17 points from Travis Outlaw and a 13-point, 11-rebound double double from Joel Pryzbilla.

LA Lakers 114 Golden State 106

This was a win for the Lakers, but it was an ugly one. With LA holding onto  52-51 lead at the break, it appeared as though the game was all but over in the third quarter when the Lakers rang off a 22-6 run to take an 18-point lead. LA allowed their guard to come down and forget they were playing the pesky Warriors and before they knew what had happened, Golden State had come back and trailed by only five points in the final minutes of the game. Kelenna Azubuike helped his team in their run, connecting on a career-high five three-pointers. With the game on the line, the Lakers were just a step ahead of the Blazers as Trevor Ariza knocked down a huge three to give his team some breathing room. Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol each scored 21 points with Gasol needing 10 less field goal attempts and also adding 14 rebounds. Lamar Odom had 16 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocked shots. Azubuike led the Warriors with 25 points and 8 rebounds as Monta Ellis added 27 points and Brandan Wright added 11 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

Atlanta 95 Dallas 87

The Dallas Mavericks continue to lose games they need in their quest to keep a strong grip on the eighth playoff spot in the West. With the 95-87 loss to the Hawks, the Mavs keep the door cracked open for the Phoenix Suns who are now three and a half games back. With the Hawks victory, they now hold a four game lead over the Heat for homecourt advantage in the East. While the Hawks led early thanks to a second quarter that saw them outscore the Mavs 33-16, the Mavs tried their best to mount a comeback in the second half before falling short. Cutting the 17 point lead down to two at the start of the fourth quarter, the Mavs would not get any closer thanks to the solid play of Joe Johnson who finished with 24 points to lead the Hawks. Flip Murray added 19 points off of the bench, Al Horford had 13 points and 8 rebounds and Josh Smith scored 15. The Mavericks had 23 points and 12 rebounds from Dirk Nowitzki, 16 points from Antoine Wright and 13 from Ryan Hollins in the loss.

Oh, who, who who? I think SKO should interview ME. That would be interesting. Think about it, Eboy. Think about it.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

when is anyone gonna interview me. Beside Rick Sanchez, nobody has.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

I got interviewed in first grade because my whole class was for fun. Nobody else . . .

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

@Eboy: He struggled in the first half for sure, and after the first quarter I had a really bad feeling, but they gutted it out and won the game. And he finished it well enough, though you’d think he would’ve gotten a better shot off to finish regulation than that hanging layup. And a play or two before that with a minute left, with Cleveland up 2 he just dribbles around and pulls up and clanks it.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

It’s not that big of a deal if he’s not THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. This is the guy wo touted CHANGE for the last couple of years in his campaign….and then, in his first, non-political/non-newsdriven interview, he uses an obvious slander towards a segment of the population that has always been held in protected circles. C’mon B….he’s my boy and all too….but the dude fu*ked up….he’s not THAT teflon.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

I will interview you Moose: Q: So when did you decide to join the Jonas Brothers? Q: At what point in your life did you realize you could be the Celtics Mascout of you just bought a green suit and green fedora? Q: How has the Celtics success impacted your life? Q:Does living in a cold weather enviorment really make people’s b@lls never drop? Q: Why are you such a ‘person’?

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

    Thanx Moose.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Very funny. What’s your last question mean???

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

That’s a good line of questioning, BET.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Anytime, B. Which shoes were they? The snake ones or the car ones?

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

A long, drawn-out answer of BETCATS’ will be up here shortly.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

I guess I’m just impressed with his performance down the final stretch… with those 40 and 50 point triple doubles coming every other week or so, a “mere” 20-10-10 game doesn’t seem like much, but still. But I really wonder if this is gonna be enough from Cleveland to beat a full strength Boston in the East.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Yeah B….the pic with the shoes is cool…..your wannabe Adam Morrison appearance is still questionable.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Eboy, to correct you, it’s a wannabe Sash Vujacic. That’s what B said, anyways.

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

    Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuke.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I must have missed the ghey hairband.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

    He has one, Eboy.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

A: Ha. Ha. Ha. I got a haircut BTW, BET. And, uhhh, my voice wouldn’t work in any section of a singing thingy except for the low ones. I got a Rick Ross type of thing going on here. I’ve been asked what HS I go to since sixth grade. Laugh it up. A: If I could pull that off I’d do it, el oh el. But Lucky just got fired, actually. We have no mascot right now. Hey, if I pass for being 21, maybe I’d have a chance. A: It has given me joy. You forgot the Red Sox and Patriots’ success, too. And, I’m a Revolution fan as well. Laugh. A: No. And when did it become a “cold weather climate”? It’s 80 daily in the summer. A: I don’t get your last question. Can someone explain?

wow didnt see it yet but im SHOCKED that obama would say something like that on leno. dealing with the aig buffoons is getting to him, his media game is slippin. lol

  • nate james

so this is all about lebron? what about the blazers forcing overtime, and being without 2 of their starters?
as for obama thats hilarious. he’s such a bamf.

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

    LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKE!

  • nate james

i do agree with james the baller.
i was watching the game, and say 3 guys go up for a rebound. lebron would muscul his way through his team and get it.
and everytime lebron would pass, even if it was quick in the shot clock, they would force up a shot.
idk. lebrons just too good. i hate it.

I think Obama was just trying to be funny, cuz he was on Leno. I guess, I might feel differently if I was the parent/family member of a special olympic participant, but I have a bunch of friends with brothers/sisters who are special needs kids, and I just don’t think they take themselves so seriously as to be genuinely offended by this.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Oh, and I’m 15-1 in my office pool, but just 13-3 in the SLAM pool.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

hey, maybe some american can answer that for me. why are there no guidelines, restrictions as to what the companies are allowed to do with the bail out money? is there an obligation for the companies to produce reports on how that money was spent? in short, why his the money untied? the imf and the wb give out nothing but tied money to the struggling economies.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Z: There actually WERE restrictions on what they can do with the money, at least with some of the bailout money they got (they got multiple billions on multiple different bills). It’s just that the government isn’t going to penalize them and take it back. AIG knows this.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ Moose

ciolk, I’m 14-2 in my regular pool and 11-5 in the SLAM pool. I’m with you, it stinks.

    @Russ:Exactly. Narsty dunk.

Hawks magic number is 4…. Just thought I’d mention that.

While the direct link in my above comment is under moderation, everyone should go to theonion.com and find the article “Dick Vitale More Sexual During March Madness, Wife Lorraine Reports.”
It is pretty much the most amazing thing ever.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

“He’s an animal,” said Mrs. Vitale, adding that prior to her husband’s appearance on ESPN’s Selection Sunday special, the couple engaged in sexual intercourse three times in different locations, including once in a Bank of America ATM kiosk. “We fool around at other times during the year, of course, but once the conference tournaments start and the brackets are finalized, well, that’s when the role-playing starts, the dirty talk gets louder, and ‘the prime-time player’ comes out of its velvet-lined case and gets fresh batteries.”
“He’s especially aggressive this year because Duke has a legitimate chance at making the Final Four,” she added.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

    Finkleberrys are delicious

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

But what her husband enjoys playing most, Mrs. Vitale noted, is “Duke vs. UNC,” a game in which he dresses up as a Blue Devil, she wears a University of North Carolina cheerleader outfit, and, at the sound of an air horn, the two “go at it hard like two in-state rivals.”
Mrs. Vitale would not confirm rumors that ESPN analyst Digger Phelps sometimes participates while dressed as Wake Forest’s “Demon Deacon” mascot.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

“When the Final Four comes around, Dick is so sexually charged that he’s pretty much into everything,” said the mother of two, who admitted that it was disturbing at first to watch her husband stand stark naked in their kitchen, a ball gag muffling his screams of “It’s awesome, baby,” but that the practice had grown on her. “And I’ll admit that it’s a little weird when he shouts out ‘Krzyzewski’ at the moment of climax, but believe me, it’s worth it. I have so many orgasms that it doesn’t matter.”

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

i’ve just read that the house passed a bill to impose a 90% (!) tax on employee bonuses paid by aig and other bail-out cies. it’s the right thing to do but it’s still kinda lame that they could have outlawed such payouts in the stimulus bill but weren’t ballsy enough to do it then. now, they didn’t really have a choice since the taxpayers were going batsh!t crazy over this. wishy washy.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Thanks for sharing Jukai. That sh*t was hilarious.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

    Christ, the last part:
Before reentering the dressing room, Mrs. Vitale confirmed what everyone had already assumed to be true: that immediately after the NCAA championship game Dick Vitale ejaculates one last time, rolls over, and sleeps through the entire month of April

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Co Co, 4 games for what type of magic…..they have 13 games left…..to clinch a spot in the playoffs?

  • Myung

The two hottest teams in the League (7 straight each) go at it Saturday. Co Co, you’re definitely more optimistic than I am. I’ll be rooting hard for the upset win, but I’m expecting them to lose and then come home and beat Minnesota Monday and then… yikes… Spurs, C’s, and Lakers back-to-back-to-back.

  • Myung

Not a big fan of that fake “photo” thing the Cavs are doing. SMH.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    What is that, Myung?

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

myung, it’s a bit corny but, as someone thats interested in seeing lebron-led teams do well, it shows great chemistry. you can’t do that when teammates don’t like each others that much.

  • http://where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com B. Long

Myung just reminded me of something. Did anyone else see the block Shannon Brown put on Mario West the last time the Hawks played L.A.? Youtube it. Trust me it’s worth it.

  • Myung

I saw it on Sportscenter, eboy. Just something they’re doing to have fun, I guess. And Z, it’s just a matter of personal taste. I got no beef with people who like it, but I think it’s … well … President Obama would be able to describe it better than I could.

  • Myung

I remember that block, B. That block was ridiculous (and it was clean). That really shouldn’t happen to guys who play about 30 seconds a night. Poor Mario.

  • Myung

Actually, I like Mario West a lot. I met him, and he’s a super nice guy… and he’s the consummate pro. Woodson usually puts him out there when there’s under a minute to go in each quarter strictly for defense. It’s funny but if you ever see Mario West on the floor with some starters, watch him on offense. He literally just stands to the side, knowing the ball won’t ever be passed to him. He knows his role, but he embraces it. He’s definitely one of my favorite Hawks, even though his stat lines usually looks like something like 0 ppg, 0 apg, and 1 rpg.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

you could never do that camera thing on a KOBE lead team. Just saying!!!!!!!!!!!!
