David Stern Has No Issue With the Cavs’ Dancing

Tough luck, Beantowners: “During a pre-playoff conference call with reporters on Monday afternoon, Stern was asked about the Cavs’ celebratory performance during Sunday’s blowout victory over visiting Boston. According to a transcript of the call, Stern was asked, ‘Is there some way of dealing with LeBron James, who danced on the sidelines yesterday? It was an embarrassment towards the Boston Celtics, and approaching the playoffs where emotion tends to run high?’ ‘I missed that dance, but I think celebrations by our players do have a place,’ Stern said. ‘If I were the Celtics, I would make sure that that tape, if it exists, runs every game in the locker room as a sort of motivation. I wouldn’t spend my time telling our players about that. Although I don’t know the specific instance, and sometimes you can go over the line. I don’t know if he did or didn’t at this time.’ In a follow-up the reporter stated that ‘it looked like a way to provoke the other team.’ ‘I certainly wouldn’t want to provoke the Celtics,’ Stern said. ‘I think perhaps it was just over-exuberance at the time.’”

“Look, I didn’t suspend Garnett and Rondo against Atlanta so they could win a championship. Why do you still want favors?” Stern did not necessarily add.

“If I were the Celtics, I would make sure that that tape, if it exists, runs every game in the locker room as a sort of motivation.” Sounds like Stern and Ray ray are on the same page – now let’s see if the C’s can slow (not stop) the Cavs…

All the Cavs did was give the Celtics a taste of their own medicine. I remember not so long ago that they were being pretty fûcking obnoxious themselves

  • German Reignman

“We will have no more smiling or high-fiving or clapping on-court … you humans and your emotions disgust me” Overlord Stern did not necessarily add

  • Ken

Yeah, it is kinda hypocritical for Boston to whine about this sort of thing. That said, I found it annoying when the Celts did it, and I find it annoying when the Cavs do too.

  • thesubwayconnection

The Celts were pretty mouthy at the start of the year, and as much as Ray might say otherwise, this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Arh5bmAsWb0) says they haven’t always been classy this year. Oops, so does this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGgDF0oFM4Y)

the reporter got it wrong, the CELTICS were the embarassing thing about that game on sunday.

They looked dead on the floor and didn’t act like they wanted to be there, that’s what is embarassing.

The Boston press has a short memory if they don’t remember their own team’s antics from last year and KG’s BS every now and then.

i think its dumb. hypotheticly speaking, i think if anyone but Lebron did this, it would be a big situation, and Stern would have fined that/those players for unprofesionilsm.
Stern is pretty much getting r@p3d by Lebron. I mean lebron crabbed dribbled, then a week later they were thinking about adding the crab dribble in the rule book. the only reason why lebron is so good, is because they change the game FOR him.

  • nate the great

in that video i watched from thesubwayconnection.
I would love to see KG bark at someone bigger than him, and getting his a$$ kicked.

    *referee blows whistle*
Technical foul on Nate. They never talked about adding the crab dribble to the rule book, they talked about changing the rule book to say ‘two steps’ instead of ‘one and a half’ for a clearer rule. Lebron took three steps.
Okay, continue the game, let’s go!

Can we PLEASE ban 99% of Kobe fans from contributing to these discussions? Their point-blank refusal to recognise LeBron as an exceptional basketball player is beyond embarrassing now.

All displays of happiness must be stopped until morale improves.

One way to settle this: eastern conference dance-off.

  • wilz

im not a kobe fan, but i agree with nate.
even 10 years ago lebron wouldnt be able to do half the stuff he does…imagine if ppl could hand check him a bit? damn

  • T Money

    Non news

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

is it a coincidence that just as the most hyped high schooler ever enters the nba, they completely get rid of handchecking?

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Wilz: if people would hand check Lebron, Lebron would have developed his game differently. Could you imagine Jordan playing in an era with zone defenses and broadened charging rules? That 37-point scoring season would have been cut in half because the dude would have lost all his easy layups and dunks!
Actually, it wouldn’t have changed at all, but people will assume what they want.

The Commish actually has a sense of humour, wow

I don’t see anything wrong with what Stern said. I agree with him on this one. It doesn’t seem to me he punished the Celtics for doing the same last year, did he?

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

Yeah, glad that Stern didn’t make a big deal out of this. People can say what they want that LeBron owns Stern, but I don’t see it like that. The Cavs are a happy bunch, and I enjoy watching them.

  • Canuck

Let’s discuss our theories about how LeBron is a cheater and sucks at life. It’s been too long.

  • http://www.basketballjerseyworld.com nba-jersey-king

Let them enjoy themselves, they are the best team in the NBA and why not celebrate

  • http://mindyourbusiness@getalife.com Allenp

Do people really think handchecking would affect a 6’8″, 250 pound former All-State wide receiver?
Do y’all even think before you type? I mean, damn, people say some dumb s(hit on here. Hand checking…
I should slap you through this computer screen.
    Just playing…

im not even close to a kobe fan, i respect lebron, and kobe’s game, its just Lebron needs to grow up. seriously. and the game of basketball needs to stopped getting r@ped by this kid. you have rules stick to them. he gets away with way to much.
i seriously think that if say Jr Smith would of done this, it woulda been a big UNPROFESIONALISM and he would of been suspended and fined. You dont dance and fool around after dominating a team. If people (the kings) thought Playing the game of bball like JR did, putting up shots and doing what your supose to do is unprofetional, then lebron dancing isnt.

  • Kozmic

Nothing wrong with having a little fun from time to time. Especially if your whoopin the other team silly! I seriously believe that these “antics” are what makes this team playing solid basketball. It’s a game you douchebags as long as it becomes all about business on the floor, then it’s none of your damn bizz you Miserable F*cks. I hate Bron and Kobe. I’m a Bulls fan. And I’m still not as miserable as you babies hating on the king. Crab dribble or not, this guy is MVP material, and I was rootin for DWade. No bias at all thank you. When the Wiz starting 5 all hate on him, he must be doing something right!

  • chintao

For information purposes, Stern said that he also has no problem with shucking, jiving, or cooning, as long as it puts paper in his clip.

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

damn chintao. allenp, i should dcikslap you! hand checking makes a hugh difference, mostly in the first step. if ron artest could put his hands on lebron, there would be no sudden drive to the basket. just ask jordan, didnt he explain it on 60 minutes or something?

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

um, that would be a huge difference,

  • larrylegend

celtic pride!!! will be right there when the PO start. no way the cavs get past the celtics, as long the big 3,5 are there.

the only reason NOBODY can handcheck lebron is because he doesn’t have forearms, he is all biceps. i meant that in a complimentary way.
