Even the Casinos in Detroit Don’t Want Allen Iverson

by Marcel Mutoni

A.I.’s career in a Pistons uniform recently came to an unfortunate, embarrassing end. It now appears as though the rest of his stay in the city of Detroit – its gambling institutions, anyway – will face a similar fate.

Due to bad behavior, Iverson has reportedly been banned from setting foot in two of the city’s casinos

From the Detroit News:

Allen Iverson has gone from being a one-man economic stimulus plan for the city’s downtown casinos to persona non grata. He has spent a ton of money down there, but recently he’s been banned from both MGM and Greektown casinos.

The NBA is looking into a disturbance at Greektown that involved one of Iverson’s body guards. Iverson may have been trying to act as a peacemaker but his body guard was involved in some kind of tussle.

Iverson, though, has been banned mostly for his boorish behavior. He is a bad loser, and he loses a lot, often throwing his chips or cards at the dealer. He has been warned about improper behavior at the tables repeatedly. He is often loud and disruptive, according to witnesses, rude to dealers, other players and the wait staff. Earlier this season, Iverson caused a disturbance at a casino outside of Minneapolis. He’s also earned a bad reputation at Atlantic City.

The A.I. saga in Motown somehow manages to get more and more depressing with each passing day. It can’t end soon enough.

Prison Mike: Iverson has as much a chance of playing in Detroit next season as Mike Vick has of being a host of a dog show.

  • J

Lang is on a roll today. Larry Brown is the GM of the casino.

  • Wayno

I’d go to that dog show…

  • ciroqobama

    Dude has always been a D*ck… now he’s just a way past-his-prime D*ck.

  • Coffeebean

“The CAnswer” is the cleverest thing I’ve ever seen on any message board, ever.

  • Tuomas

It was also old about two months ago, no matter how clever it might be.

  • joe

Maybe he needs to PRACTICE at cards.

  • Tuomas

    My apologies, THAT was old.

  • donlaker

so i guess allen gets another cover, but this time add some dice and a crap table(slam)
and get me a six pack while you are at it

  • Prison Mike

I’m sure he will still start in the ASG next year.

  • doyouwantmore

AI is the Joe Pesci of the NBA.

  • Tavoris

MJ was an entirely different dynamic, as he WAS the NBA during his prime. The Michael Jordan Machine killed EVERY potentially bad story. Sports reporters would be out of a job if they weren’t able to cover MJ.

  • donlaker

@doyouwantmore a.i. should hit joe dumars with a shovel like pesci did in goodfellas.
and i see him on the clippers once they get rid of b dizzle a.i in l.a , the clippers would sell mad seats

  • rey

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

I’m one of the biggest AI and Pistons fans around, but even I can’t defend this. Some of ya’ll are straight trippin’.

  • Wayno

What do you expect with that kind of trash. That guy is a washed up thug loser.

I wasn’t laughing at AI. I was laughing at the situation…
I think this next year will make or break AI. He’s always going to be my favorite, but next year he either silences the critics again, or he goes quietly into the night as a footnote in NBA history. It’s his choice.

  • http://www.basketballjerseyworld.com nba-jersey-king

he will fade away the next few years – no teams will want him…. unless he backs up Stephon Marbury in Boston….

  • that dude

Sometimes keeping it real goes wrong

  • Pardeep

Negative AI stories get so much attention. Not wen there positive tho

  • Dave

There’s a lot of people on here/out there who’ve just been waiting for this opportunity to take AI down. The “How long does he think he can keep playing those minutes at that pace?/Even though he shows no signs of slowing down he will one day” gang finally gets to crow about sinking the boot in. Hooray.

  • Kozmic

It really sucks to be AI right now. This is just another case when keeping it real goes the wrong way…man I miss Chappelle show

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

The little warrior doesn’t seem to be intereested in hardwood battle anymore….Its sad because you always thought that he was a player that was going to go out on his own terms…. at the top. a winner. and that seems to be falling further and further from his grasp….

  • Wayno

He only damages his own reputation. He doesn’t have enough common sense to know that when you’re under the spotlight of the media, it doesn’t matter what good you do, the bad stuff (which is alot) is always going to be the big story. All these moronic AI fans don’t get the whole idea of personal responsibility for your actions aparently because to them it’s never his fault, it’s all the media…what a joke…

  • ktokyo

    The Cawnser BWAAAHAHAHA! Awesome.

  • http://www.nba.com iLL wiLL

This is sad, real talk. AI has fallen the f*ck off. Badly.

  • Nashty

Ai being rude to people? Whoa, how could this be? With that said, I did sit next to a NBA player, Jarron Collins (at a black jack table once in Bellagio, Las Vegas. He is about the nicest person you can meet.

  • larrylegend

    drug tests should be taken.

A.I has been a hero to a lot of young kids all over the world. Its a shame to see how some one with so much power to influence people positively, can be so negative and unpredictable.

  • Slobodan Chutzpah

It now seems baffling that I once extolled his virtues at every juncture and genuinely believed the hype about him being burdened with poor teammates who were robbing him of his rightful opportunity to win a title. The past years seem to beg the question: is Iverson, because of his ability to scintillate with his unusual skill set, the most overrated NBA star of the last decade (seeing that his teams do not win anything of note; he’s a very low-efficiency player who cannot adapt to a team concept; his old teams become instantly better when he leaves; etc.)?

  • littleshotlarry

Detroit Free Press: “The Internet was ablaze Tuesday with a rumor claiming that Allen Iverson recently had been banned from MGM and Greektown casinos. However, Greektown casino spokesman Riley Meredith said Iverson has not been banned from the casino, nor did he know if Iverson has ever been warned about improper behavior at the casino. And MGM Grand Detroit spokesman Jamaine Dickens also said Iverson has not been banned from that casino and added he is unaware of any behavior problems involving the athlete at MGM Grand.”

I knew something was fishy about this story.

  • Tuomas

What, are you suggesting that we can’t trust news or newspapers any more?? Whatever the case, the playoffs can’t start soon enough.

He’s not the first and he won’t be the last to get banned from a casino for bad behaviour. But he is Allen Iverson, and as a loved NBA player, future Hall of Famer and a father and hsuband…. he really needs to get his act together, grow up, show more maturity, respect, and responsibility.

As for Allen Iverson the player… many teams can benefit from having him on the team. Love him or hate hime in all of his NBA playing days he’s been the underdog, who tries to do it all if at times too much. Passionate, aggressive, selfish, wants to win, and is his self. All he needs now is to become that all-star bench player that comes in and does what the coach asks of him to change the game.

  • http://marcfaberblog.blogspot.com/ SOFOKLIS SCHORTSIANTIS

    IVERSON!!!!

  • Tavoris

Aristotle, the casinos have all publicly claimed that AI has NOT been banned, nor warned.

  • bakers-dozen (12-13_

    Iverson a bad loser? Like that’s news…

  • Quail

i hope they find a way for him and al jefferson to play together in Minnesota

  • Aristotle

Well being in Australia, I haven’t come across that article just yet Tavoris, but thanks for informing me. In the end, if his behaviour was not appropriate in the way he plays the casino games and can’t stand losing, he just needs to realise the status he has as an NBA player, and the way the community sees him.

thats what im talking about AI i wish i can throw more then chip at these damn indian casinos in conn.
