Post Up: Warriors Outlasting

While Chris Paul handles the Clippers.

by Holly MacKenzie / @stackmack

So the Lakers lost to the Bobcats and narrowly defeated the Bucks last night (104-98). Are we really going to talk about how a team that’s one win shy of 60 isn’t that good? Their defense has looked shaky at best on this trip, but there are a lot of teams who deserve the hate a whole lot more.

Sometimes I think we get spoiled. The Lakers have a ton of things to improve on before the playoffs come, but, they don’t suddenly suck. It’s a long road trip. They lost two games. Perhaps they should be more concerned than they are, but it truly isn’t the end of the world. Yet.

Iverson saying he’d rather retire than be a reserve next season? Charlotte. Larry Brown-A.I. reunion. Please? Raja and Brown. I bet Iverson respects them both even more now than before. That would make me happy. Regardless of where he ends up, he needs to find a place because I am nowhere near ready to give him up yet.

The Raptors won again last night. This time against Orlando, in Orlando. Yup, a healthy Jose makes a huge difference. Still, it’s pretty damn frustrating watching this team look so fluid and smooth on the offensive end after the clunky year we’ve had watching here in Toronto. Yes, clunky. It’s the best descriptor I can think of for a year of bad.

I posted my interview with Raymond Felton over at The Score yesterday. Check it out if you’re a fan of Felton/Charlotte/me.

Okay, about the games last night. In the Milwaukee game, Ramon Sessions had a triple-double in the loss with 16 points, 16 assists and 10 rebounds. Kobe finished with 30 for LA.

Paul Pierce scored 32 for the Celtics in that double-overtime affair as Raymond Felton had 14 points and 12 assists and Gerald Wallace finished with 20 points, 10 boards, 4 steals and a block.

The Raptors got a big win against the Magic, taking them down 99-95 as they sealed the game with a jumper from Bosh and free throws from Marion. Chris Bosh finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds and Marion added 17 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists. Dwight finished with 30 and 9 for the Magic.

The Nets bounced back from that embarrassing loss to take down the road-weary Pistons, 111-98 thanks to 19 and 11 from Devin Harris and six players finishing in double-figures including 23 from Keyon Dooling who was moved into the starting lineup as Vince was slid down to the SF position. The Pistons were led by Rip Hamilton’s 29 while Walter Hermann and Rodney Stuckey scored 16 points apiece in the loss.

Josh Howard drew a controversial charge against Mario Chalmers in the Mavs 98-96 victory over the Heat last night. Dirk Nowitzki finished with 30 points for the Mavs while Howard scored 20 and Jason Terry had 13 off of the bench. Dwyane Wade scored 23 for the Heat who also had 18 from Chalmers nd 17 off of the bench from Michael Beasley.

The Suns played the role of spoiler against the Rockets, taking them down 114-109 behind a 25-point, 17-assist night from Steve Nash. Shaquille O’Neal had 22 points and 10 rebounds and Grant Hill added 23 as the Suns shot 54% from the floor in the game. The Rockets were led by Ron Artest’s 28 points while Yao Ming had 20 and 14 and Shane Battier scored 18.

Chris Paul had 30 points, 14 assists and 6 steals as he stole the game away from the Clippers in the final minutes last night. David West scored 19 and Julian Wright had 18. Eric Gordon had 25 points to lead the Clippers as Zach Randolph scored 24 to go with 14 rebounds and Baron Davis added 13 points and 12 assists.

The Warriors took down the Kings, 143-141 in the second straight painful loss for Sacramento. This one went into overtime and the Warriors just escaped. 42 points 9 rebounds and 9 assists for Monta Ellis. That’s a nice line. 50 for Kevin Martin. One 22 shots. That’s nice, too. Jason Thompson added 14 points to go with 19 boards before fouling out and Francisco Garcia scored 22. Kelenna Azubuike had 27 points and 13 rebounds for the Warriors.

While each of these teams are most definitely not playing for the postseason, they are still two I enjoy watching. Love watching McCants in Sacramento and of course, my Warrior guys. Even if Nellie’s all over the place with his lineups, the guys he puts out there have something to play for and I enjoy watching them.

I loved this piece on Bobby Jackson that basically said the same. Some guys are all about the game. Those are my favorite.

@Ryne, no we werent gonna make the playoffs after loosing to the L-Wolves, Pacers, and Wizards. Last night’s loss cost us nothing.

Well, if I didn’t hate Calipari before, Justin pretty much convinced me to pick up a torch and a pitchfork and head over to his home

Okafor did have some posters though. He dunked first on Kendrick Perkins, then on Big Baby. Both were 1 handed sledge hammers, both times they jumped with Emeka. I liked that

Ryne: good to read ya. Quick tech question? Are you guys having problems with bandwidth or HD-space at slamonline or something? i’ve noticed serious lags lately, sometimes sending a comment results in a frozen screen (we talking like 15 secs – 1min at times). And i’ve noticed that you sometimes have difficulties posting pictures in articles (Wade shoe giveaway, yesterday’s MJ post). What gives? i usually read slamonline on my iphone, but it’s even slow on firefox on my pc.

    I hope Kentucky sucks forever.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Dark…..I’ve run into that same type of stuff too.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

…This is going to read as biased, but I haven’t had ANY of these problems Dark or Eboy. Maybe you guys have that konficker virus or whatever? I mean I have a MAC and most viruses never get to Mac’s….(not doing a Mac is better argument, but nobody can deny that Mac’s have no virus problems)

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Hi E: yeah at first i thought it might be the phone and the sometimes useless wi-fi hotspots i tap into here, but i noticed that when i use different tabs, all other websites are the usual speed. hmm? I’m sure Ryne’s on it anyway

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

Dark, it’s not the site it’s the virus going around all PC based computers- conficker or konficker or however you spell it.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Naah Justin, a’int a virus thing. My box be clean (oops, that sounded awful).

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

Dark, people with firewalls and anti virus on lock are even getting it. Something like tens of millions of PC’s are already infected. It’s outrageous. Mobile phones are getting infected as well.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Dark & Eboy: It’s the way they’re coding things on the front page. Either everything in CSS is formatted on top of one another, or the db code is bad and it takes a long time to call the most recent articles to put on the front page. You can see it sometimes loading the front page, everything will be loaded on top of itself and then eventually format itself properly.
Or I could totally be guessing.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Oh geez, i just read that it was mainly limited to businesses and companies who are too slow to stop the gaps in their networks and that firewalled, home pc’s are less at risk! Still, i’m fairly pc-savvy, and have a great buddy who does support on my stuff, no cornflicker spotted here yet. Mobile phones too? Arrrrrgh!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Justin…..it’s not my server at work…..we just had our tech guy out yesterday and our system’s clean…..no Conficker here.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

I don’t have any problems right now.

apparently at half time of the Raptors game in Orlando, a fan shot a half court shot blind folded and was lead on, by the reaction of the fans, that his shot went in. He then said that he just got laid off the day before but all that is behind him and that he would take his family on a vacation. Then, hes notified that it was an april fools joke.
    way to stay classy Orlando…

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

If you use IE7, things’ll work better. I really think it’s the CSS code they use to format everything.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

    damn CSS..

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Juk’s i know you are in IT, isn’t firefox a safer browser?

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

    Dark: Yes.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Oh well, back to the sport to rule them all. Steve Nash’s stats yesterday were amazing. 17 assists and just 1 TO? perfect from 3? Phoenix starting five all scored in double figures, and Houston usually plays great team D. Guys got still got it.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

Dark: he also had a sweet steal! That led to a layup for grant hill on the break I was shocked to see him make a play on that side of the ball.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

yeah Shia, i saw the whole game. It was a very good performance all around by Nashty. On Shaq’s missed slam, Steve took the pick and roll at the 3 pt. line, went straight to the heart of the Rockets D in the key (where some large gentlemen were waiting to reject anything he sent up) and at the perfect moment, dropped the pass to a rolling Shaq. I just love watching great playmakers do their stuff.

    Lakers suck…Kobe..LeBron..Michael..yeast infections.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

@MeloMan: Yeah. I actually heard about it from my derivatives professor first. That was a REALLY bad joke at a time like this.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

    Anton: you forgot Monica Seles.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

The Suns are runaway favorites to win the Loser Playoffs.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

And John Calipari’s been a slimy scumbag for years. You ain’t know?

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

@MeloMan… was the april fools that the guy was in on it and just made the CROWD feel bad? or was Orlando really that douche-heavy that night?

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

you ain’t know. I’m gonna steal that line…

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Was Calipari a swine even at UMass with Camby? I loved watching that team back then.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

I’m sure I stole it from some bad movie or hip-hop track anyway.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Not sure whether he was a scumbag at UMass, but given that the university was sanctioned afterwards and hasn’t been anything resembling a basketball power after, all signs point to yes.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

In related news, I hope Tim Floyd hires Marcus Fizer as his lead assistant and primary recruiter. “Hey coach, how come you got a question mark tattooed on your neck?”

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Not to say Cal isn’t a terrific recruiter and an excellent coach, mind you, but there’s no way it’s all been on the up-and-up. Shake hands with the dude and you probably want to wash your hands with WD-40.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

Cal has always struck me as a untrustworthy guy. I mean if even john cheney wanted to kick his ass. Oh wait… nevermind that point but I always got a real bad vibe from that dude.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

Russ, we both know about his recruiting mess with UMass, especially the big man, with the agents paying him etc. That’s all known. Then there’s uncle wes…. You know. and Russ, Tim Floyd doesn’t need to hire a recruiter, he just hires fathers, recruits through drug dealers and ruins families. YIPPEEEE

Justin is making me not want to watch college basketball anymore. Geez.

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

@ justin: im pretty sure it was to fool the man taking the shot because i heard he was NOT happy when he heard

  • http://web.mac.com/roaringred bbaby

The Mavs won, but it still doesn’t make up for the Wade lovefest in the ’06 finals. I would have been pissed if Wade got any foul on that last possession of the game.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

bbaby…….does that b stand for bi*ch, big or blow me?

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

Darksaber, I’ve noticed the site’s been screwy slow as well recently. I’m looking into it as we speak.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

“Wade lovefest”? As long as the Mavs and their fans continue to use the “Wade lovefest” as an excuse for the “Mavs chokefest” that happened, they are never going to be a relevant basketball team. It’s been years. Move on. You guys have a very good, if old, team that is a couple pieces away from being back in the mix.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Cool Ryne. Glad to hear you’ve got your eye on it

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

wash hands with wd-40. Ohhhhhkay, that one is even better than “you a’int know”.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

The lag might be because we have 3 flash ads running at the same time. Let me know if it’s still a trend. If so, we can try to get the ads to not show up all at once.

  • http://mindyourbusiness@getalife.com Allenp

i stopped watching college ball a long time ago.
