Randy Brown is Bankrupt, Selling Rings

It must be tough times for Brown, who has fallen into the red despite making over $15 million as a player and spending several years as a Kings assistant: “Former Bulls guard Randy Brown declared bankruptcy after being fired as a Sacramento Kings assistant coach. A federal bankruptcy judge in Sacramento has given West Auctions, of Woodland, CA, the job of auctioning Brown’s 1996, 1997 and 1998 NBA championship rings. [...] The bidding will begin May 19 at $19,000.”

    that’s just sad he had to do that, but i suppose sentimental value doesn’t feed your stomach.
    my favorite randy brown moment was when he dunked on elden campbell and corey blount(?) in an OT game. it was in fact Kobe’s first visit to Chicago, and shaq, eddie jones, nick the quick were on the team. MJ played like crap that game, but kukoc caught fire from downtown in 4th quarter and OT to win the game for them.

    The NBA needs to have this guy talk at the Rookie Orientation. Perfect example of what you don’t want to have happen to your players. It just looks bad for everyone.

    I think its a contractual thing… I mean, if MJ and Charles Barkley were on NBALive I would probably need to file for backrupcy also – I’d never leave home, I’d be washing myself with a rag on a stick….

    I dont mean to question a man – he really has every right to do what he likes… this just doesn’t set any worthwhile example, coming from a fairly decent guy through the league. He capitalised on his opportunities and one day may have nothing to show for what would ultimately have to be some of the greatest memories in the world!!! Why doesn’t he write a book or something…?

    this is really unfortunate….and magnifies the problem a lot of pro athletes face if they do not invest wisely. I used to enjoy watching him play but his most ridiculous moment was trying to get the ball from MJ….i also remember reading that Randy and a couple other Bulls were crying after winning the championship when MJ told him ‘why are you crying, I am the one who did everything’ or something on those lines…it is really sad that he has to sell those rings…

    Nate: Jordan had his own licensing agreement with the NBA, so I believe they have to negotiate with him individually.
