The Mavs’ One-Sided War of Words Continues

by Marcel Mutoni

For their part, the San Antonio Spurs took Erick Dampier’s threat for what it was: Nothing more than an empty promise, and unnecessary tough talk. That doesn’t mean, though, that the Mavs are done jabbing at their opponent.

After talking with the folks at NBA HQ, Dampier wisely changed his mind about purposely knocking Tony Parker to the floor as soon as they cross paths this evening. His teammate Dirk Nowitzki, however, did not pass up the opportunity to remind the Spurs that is their team that owns the sketchy rep when it comes to dirty play.

From the Star-Telegram:

“Nobody’s trying to hurt anybody in this league,” Nowitzki said. “We’re all competitors, but we’re all in this together … Damp certainly doesn’t have the reputation of being a dirty player. They got one, we don’t.

So nothing’s going to happen. We’re just going to have to protect the paint a little better and not give up a hundred layups.”

Don’t worry about the Mavs. They’re simply perfecting the art of having an argument with one’s self.

    wow, mavs suck.
    iv never liked them.
because im a suns and blazers fine.
    i kinda have too.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

That’s why I am picking the Spurs to win now, forget the Dallas Chokers.

  • http://www.broy7.com nate the great

    jason terrys fine.
    (lost track of typing.)

  • Yann Blavec’s wife’s husband

I prefer the Mavs because here in France every single media is kissing Tony Longoria’s buns. Maybe I would be a Spurs fan if I were German.

  • Tekno

I think Dirk conveniently forgot that it was JT who attacked Finley’s balls and elbows TP and it was his franchise who employed Juwan Howard and his take down of Derek Anderson. He’s right about one thing though, Damp is not a dirty player – just a little bit stupid perhaps.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

“Damp certainly doesn’t have the reputation of being a dirty player” what he meant was “Damp certainly doesnt have the reputation of being a hard worker, this b!tch is lazy.”

  • Tavoris

Damp hasn’t figured out yet that you don’t piss off Tim Duncan? 30 pts, 15 rbs, 6 blk in the next game…

  • Omar3

Parker will prolly drop about 48 this time against the Mavs. Dirk had his chance in 2006 and he failed Dallas. The Spurs might have one dirty player, but that dirty player does have 3 more rings than Dirk!!!

  • Benoit Benjamin

I agree, Matt Bonner is one dirty playa.

  • niQ

didn’t tony parker toast the mavs after damp said he’d smash him?

  • Sarah

Yeah, it wasn’t dirty at all when Stackhouse choke-slammed Manu to the floor, and then tried to shove his face inside the floor. Those Mavericks are saints. Dirk should quit b*tching and actually show up for a game. Mental midget.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Dirk is totally wrong on this. The Spurs have at least three dirty players.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

I’m amazed that Jukai isn’t on here screaming about how Dirk is right. And thank you for reminding me about Juwon Howard’s take down on Derek Anderson, which ended our title hopes that season. Also, I know Stack isn’t on this Mavs team, but he choke slammed Gino last season on some bullsh1t.
Mavs fans are like a Texas version of Laker fans, they’re everywhere once that team starts winning. To sum it up: Eff the Mavs.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

    Damn. I shoulda refreshed.

  • Josh D

The difference between Bowen and Dampier is that Bowen can actually lock guys down Dampier can’t

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Who else besides Bowen is “dirty” Jukai?

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Ciolkstar, relax, I was kidding. Dirk’s being a whiny biznatch.

  • http://allanzuss@yahoo.com Mendel

I can not wait till the mavs are out of the picture.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Stackhouse choke-slammed Manu? So? I luuuv Manu’s game, expect for his tendency to FLOP! I know for a fact that i have run over or flattened floppers lots of times if they try too hard to win an oscar on D. Flopping with arms flailing and backpedalling like i hit you with a desert eagle is despicable. I enjoy planting one nasty in game hit on superfloppers. Just came back from the semifinals of the Singapore league, scored a’ight (23), played a box & 1 on the opponents best scorer for 30 odd minutes, and all was good. Then their puny PG pulled not one, not two but three (!) Reggie Miller legkick 3′s on us in the 2nd half. 9 freethrows!! I laid that punk on his butt hard after that. Twice. So who cares what Jerry did? Is Manu still alive and (fairly) well? Thought so. As for Dirk commenting on this? Enough talk, more offense, damnit. (even though he’s quite correct)

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Haha, its all good Jukster. Honestly, I’m glad the Spurs matched up with Dallas. I realize we have no shot at winning it all, but in-state bragging rights are worth something!

  • Sarah

The flopping thing is old. Chris Paul flops worse than most people in the league and everybody loves him. Manu takes more punishment and complains less, and everybody hates him. Why? Cause he wins, and he’s not on your team. Get over it.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Sarah? Derek Fisher called. He’d like some consideration in your argument. Grazie.

  • Mavs thru thick and thin

Look. Yes the mavs play dirty. When did basketball become a sport where you can’t foul someone. has everyone in here forgot the term “playoff foul”? its the playoffs…no easy buckets, hand down…thats just how it is.
and how is the stack and manu thing any different from the suns-spurs thing a few years ago where robert “will smith” horry lost his mind and tried to kill steve nash?!

i hate spurs fans, you guys are so full of yourselves.

the day time duncan retires im throwing a party

  • Cizzo

The Mavs are the softest team in the playoffs maybe the entire league!

  • Sparker

actually, josh howard has a rep as a dirty player (sizable enough to be mentioned in jack macallum’s book on the suns)

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Holy crap Mavs guy, “Horry tried to kill Nash?!”
Really? Youtube that replay, its like half of a blind screen, and Nash basically threw himself into the scorer’s table trying to get a flagrant called. Stack is a piece of sh1t. Sadly, without fake toughness like that your best players end up getting slapped around (literally) by scrubs like DWest.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Calling Stack “fake” tough is quite a joke. Read up on his history. And watch the replay of his flagrant on Shaq (after an uncalled O’Neal Foul on him earlier). Stackhouse is one of the last true tough guys in that league.

  • jk_light

I always remember Stack punching Jeff Hornacek way back while he was playin for the 76ers. OK, not the biggest guy to take on but Stack is really a tough guy. Nobody is …. with him.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Ciolkstar sees things in his own reality. Nash “threw himself in to the scorers table?”
Holy god. I’ve never read anyone so out of touch with reality.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Now I’m rooting for Dampier to give Parker a damn concussion.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

I’ll just say, “Nah, bro, Parker really tried hard to get that concussion so a flagrant can be called”

  • Tavoris

this just re-iterates how everybody on the Mavs other than JT, Kidd, and Stack are stone-deficient…(altho JJ Barea might be an exception as well)

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

yeahhhhh Tav. Ason Kidd the wifethumper is a model of sanity on the mavs. Please, all you Mavshaters should at least use legitimate complaints. Fake tough Stack? Non deficient Kidd? Next you guys and dolls are gonna label Josh Howard a patriot par excellence.

  • Sarah

What does Derek Fisher have to do with the price of rice in China? I’m not going to get in an argument over the internet. People will always see what they want to see. Go Spurs.

  • donlaker

charles oakley and alonzo are the only real tough guys who played in the last few years
and stack is tough when he gets playing time, but coach cuban has a soft team who can beat a softer spurs team……go rockets, im glad the garden salad eating t mac is not on the roster now.. and manu is just like steve nash and john stockon cheap elbow shots in the paint…..go rockets

  • Feng

mark cuban ruins everything about the mavs

  • Harlem_World

Jason Kidd is a HOF’er, but he looks like he should be inducted THIS year. wow…

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

    Go Mavs.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

38 to 70. I can’t wait for the Mavs Lakers matchup.

  • aotearaw

I hate both of these teams.

    Just an FYI really…

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Hahaha….HA! That’s how you throttle a team. Two spurs players in (low) double figures and all the Mavs clicking as one. Sorry Timmy only played 15 odd minutes or so, but them’s the breaks. Dirk was solid, so was Josh and JJ is a TP Pest i guess, played the most of any Mav and had a good game. Worrying signs though, Jason can’t get anything going (points wise) and JT is just going through the motions. Those two need to wake up. Still, i’ll take a 21 Point drubbing, especially in the kind of Defensive match that the Spurs LOVE to play. 67 Points… in the Playoffs…sheesh. (How’d you like them apples, Sarah?)

  • madamerica

That’s how you back up your words. You don’t beat up a little French guy, you beat the s**t out of his team.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

As for dirty play, that’s peanuts compared to the soccer player on Real Madrid (Pepe) a few nights ago. Dude TOTALLY lost it and stumped his opponent, THEN kicked the guy on the back….while the victim was flat on his stomach on the grass…WITH SOCCER Shoes! Now that’s flat out disgusting.
    PS: love the spanish announcers

  • Sarah

How do I like them? 21-point beating for a 21-point beating. All I have to say to you is this: your team still has 0 rings. And, come the end of the season, they will still have 0 rings.

  • http://www.broy7.com/roy/index nate the great

    as i said, hate both.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

awww, love how ya like living the past. I’m sure the spurs appreciate what you did for them during all those championships, oh wait can’t remember a Sarah on the roster. One stat for ya though, just to put your 21 point comparison in contrast: 67 points. In the Nba playoffs. Yeah, heart of a champion.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

at least “my” team didn’t stink up the joint on purpose so they could land Cookie in the draft, thus getting the championship cornerstone they’d craved for years.

  • Sarah

  • whooo!

i always found it weird how the spurs manage to bring out the best in the mavs. basically, the mavs feel they really can beat the spurs, and their game 7 win in ’06 was easily the biggest success for that franchise in recent times. but after playing incredible that series, they choke hardcore against the heat. then the next year they get humiliated by the warriors, and last year completely punked by the hornets (west patting dirk’s face like a pimp to a ho). but they seem to always bring it against san an – toughness, guts, strong performances. they should just pretend every team they play is the spurs.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Ironically, Dampier just went up huge in my books. Dude REJECTED Parker outright on one of the first places of the game, and Parker really didn’t drive the same way again. Go Mavs!

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

hope Erick added:” mange ça”, on that rejection.

  • BBQueen

Game 3 winner, wins the series over 90% of the time. So they say.

  • BBQueen

Gotta love Pops press conference. Yeah, we got our asses kicked.

  • wayno

Niether team is gonna win it all so yeah…
