The Mavs’ One-Sided War of Words Continues
For their part, the San Antonio Spurs took Erick Dampier’s threat for what it was: Nothing more than an empty promise, and unnecessary tough talk. That doesn’t mean, though, that the Mavs are done jabbing at their opponent.
After talking with the folks at NBA HQ, Dampier wisely changed his mind about purposely knocking Tony Parker to the floor as soon as they cross paths this evening. His teammate Dirk Nowitzki, however, did not pass up the opportunity to remind the Spurs that is their team that owns the sketchy rep when it comes to dirty play.
From the Star-Telegram:
“Nobody’s trying to hurt anybody in this league,” Nowitzki said. “We’re all competitors, but we’re all in this together … Damp certainly doesn’t have the reputation of being a dirty player. They got one, we don’t.
So nothing’s going to happen. We’re just going to have to protect the paint a little better and not give up a hundred layups.”
Don’t worry about the Mavs. They’re simply perfecting the art of having an argument with one’s self.
