Uh-Oh, Knee Pain for Bynum

by Marcel Mutoni

Evidently, the Los Angeles Lakers were having too easy of a time so far this postseason, and the Hoop Gods decided the team needed to face a bit more adversity.

Due to knee pain, Andrew Bynum was held out of a team practice following Game 2 of the first round series against Utah. The Lakers, though, insist it was nothing more than a precautionary move.

From the LA Times:

Bynum sat out most of Wednesday’s practice because of knee discomfort, a precautionary move more than anything but a move nonetheless involving Bynum’s right knee, the same one that sidelined him for 32 games because of a torn medial collateral ligament. Lakers Coach Phil Jackson indicated the soreness might be related to the bulky brace Bynum had worn since returning six games ago.

“I don’t think it’s anything that the training staff thought was structural,” Jackson said. “Some of it’s due to [the] brace, wearing the brace and the inhibiting of the brace of the motions. I think it’s all capable of working out, but he did not work much on the court [Wednesday] at all.”

According to a Laker spokesman, Young Andrew will be in the lineup tonight for Game 3 in Utah.

Whew! Glad we’ve gotten that cleared up. Mosey on along, now, nothing else to see here.

  • a_whiteman

I hope he plays cuz I don’t want to hear the excuse of we didn’t have bynum

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

    co-sign a_whiteman.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Homeboy better hit a Karma Sutra book to get some new stances to be in with Rhianna.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Actually, I wanna take my co-sign back. Lakers fans are going to complain about SOMETHING if they don’t win. SOMETHING wasn’t right that, if they did have it, they would have won it all.

  • StormFya

I co-sign YOU, Jukai! On the money!

  • cdef28

Chauncey, Melo, Nene and the rest of the Nuggets are looking like they are primed for an NBA Finals

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

That’s not knee pain, that is Chris Brown punching him in the kneecap.

  • RM

the nugs are looking nice right now. agreed. and funny, tad! haha

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

funny thing is, i’m not even sure the lakers play better when drew is suiting up. were they really worse when he was out of the line up during the reg season? i like gasol at the 5 having the low block for himself. he’s a finesse dude but make no mistake, he scores the vast majority of his points on lay-ins, dunks and hooks. how many j’s does he take per game? gasol he’s not a high post dude, he’s a low block finesse dude.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Bynum has looked really good to me so far, when he scores in the post it looks EASY, especially when he has Boozer guarding him. I just want SOMEBODY to beat the fakeshow, it really doesn’t matter who. I don’t care if their entire starting five is injured. Right now, I’m lookin at Denver and Cleveland as the two teams with a legit shot at knocking off a fully healthy Laker team.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Chauncey looks like he’s stepped his game up a notch here in the playoffs, he’ll eat the Laker PGs alive. The Lakers will need a healthy Bynum to maintain their frontcourt advantage. Nene could probably do a decent job on Gasol/Odom but Bynum is too big and strong. Melo and JR just need to stay efficient for the Nuggs to be really dangerous.

  • ti-sizz

Why am i not surprised at this.. it seems like the same thing every year! but whatever, i think the Lakers do just fine without him. They say that Bynum’s a force on D and really improves the Laker’s defense, but i don’t really notice it that much. They seem just as bad on D, and the only person who really makes a difference on that end of the court is Ariza. That said, don’t think the Lakers are strong enough to win it all this year, especially when Nuggets and Cavaliers have so much chemistry. And let’s not rule out the reigning champs either, Garnett will recover miraculously when they need him to.

  • a_whiteman

I co-sign my former co-signer…they always complain no matter how stacked they are!!!

  • http://www.broy7.com nate the great

co sign everyone who doesnt like the lakers.

  • donlaker

screw all the l.a.haters….. who wear lakers gear , who wear dodgers gear and who want to take a trip to melrose, or roll down crenshaw, the real posers who make l.a.fake are the stupid midwesterners who come here for a chance at stardumb , the lakers are working just as hard as the cavs and boston to win it all
so any a hole who wants to settle like a real man
any saturday morning at the venice beach b ball courts. im there and bring your fat fiance…
    i will do her also

  • niQ

they might as well sit him out for game 3.

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

Oh come on, there’s no way Rhianna is heavier than that other Playmate.

  • Trey Belmore

    Don-Laker,

a big reason you have players like gasol and bynum are because of midwesterners buying kobe’s jersey. Especially when he mysteriously changed his number in 06. Genius move for the best selling jers in the game

  • http://sportzin.com Joey E.

what annual LO injury on the horizon(talking to Joe up there). He got a hyperextended knee early in the season remember? He missed 4 games I believe.

  • price

The Lakers can sweep the jazz without Bynum. they should just let him rest for now so he can be ready for Oden/Ghostface or Yao.

  • Static

laker fans complain about anything they can, its just the Hollywood divas in them. And they should get past the Jazz, but they don’t wanna see Portland, Bynum or not

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

yeah, keep on wearing the foamposite lite, Andrew. Rajon keeps bustin his ankles in those and Iggy stopped wearing em a week ago, Boozer weeks ago etc. Etc. I’m sure the cushioning on those is enough for a 5, one with a weakened knee too. Smart choice.

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

intresting how alot of u guys are bigging up the Nuggets. where were yall last year, or even earlier this year

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

i bet Chris Breezy took him down

  • JoeMaMa

With Phil Jackson as coach: “No problems. Just the brace. We’re fine. See you at the game.”

With Stan Van Gundy as coach: “Holy sh*t! We’re screwed! Jeff, what should I do?!!?! Where’s Marcin?!?”

  • donlaker

hey trey the nba shares the wealth on jersey’s
they pay everybody(all 430 players) when bron or kb24 or wade sell
a jersey, yao would be the king (china)
but kobe’s jersey is # in china he changed his jersey because , gil arenas and addidas made a shoe called crazy 8 (kobe’s 1st shoe) and he didnt like how they treated him, and how they sold all of his old models…the knicks are the most valuable team because of new york city not the players or the team records

  • bulldog

Cosign Donlaker – tired of Laker haters who actually applaud injuries and burn candles thru the night praying for Laker demise. Truth be Told – Same haters meeting Kobe in person would result in a stream of urine running down their legs, drooling, and similar knee sorness but due to a different reason. See ya at the parade, bro!

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

melo: where was chauncey last year?

  • donlaker

season ticket, t v rights, and advertising is how
teams make the money, so because you have a bynum jersey doesnt mean any thing(except it matches your out fit for the night) look at the yankees they have the higest payroll but still didnt win the title

  • Cizzo

Love the Lakers, get off Bynum,s dislnick. Ingrave the Lakers on the Championship trophy, KB24 finals M.V.P.!!!!!!!!!

Bulldog: I’d like to send that message back, saying all Lakers fans would cry and beg for forgiveness when confronted with Lebron James at their front door.
What a dumb thing to say.

  • Statik

Actually only said Laker fans would be drooling and suffering from ashy knees with Kobe at the front door…
and there you have it: Kobe and Lebron both mentioned in another post about someone else LMAO

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

Bulldog: the gay pride parade has passed, bro

  • donlaker

you sure know alot about , gay clevland pride
anton, or is it antwan, but hey that’s not my biz. that gay baller thing is anton at his best,
and lebron is a good player but not a champion,(until new york)
and watch him leave clevland if they dont win the title ,then you will say , he did wear a yankees hat but i didnt see it coming , bunch of quags

  • Samcobilibob

Basketball gods?!!? There is only one GOD, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST! And if Bynum does go down for a while, the Lakers will still crush all competition.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

If Jesus Christ played basketball, I bet he wouldn’t be able to play with Kobe.

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

donlaker: measuring his self worth by a basketball team since 1967

  • donlaker

anton , do you dance ballet also…..
and jesus christo doesnt have time to play with kobe, he is too busy trying to get his slam /kicks
subscription put in the right mailbox
anton, dude you are old and gay which is o.k. but dont wear those pink thongs to hooters anymore,
my homies didnt leave you a tip

  • bulldog

Jukai – Let history be the judge, because when it is all said and done- That trophy count is what really matters. We’ll see who winds up with the most between “King” James and Kobe. Both are Superstars of the highest order but those rings have the final say.

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

Robert Horry has more rings than Kobe, therefore he is better.

  • Superman Osman

Things gettin’ heavy with Rihanna eh? Zen Master should make playa restrictions in the postseason…

  • Feng

    Cavs>Lakers

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

@ Z: thats understandable, but even last month when the nugs were 7th ppl were hating on them

  • http://slamonline.com DON OC SA

no matter what the laker aint winnin’ shieet..
nuggets cavs o9 finals!! melo or mr. big shot for finals mvp

  • bulldog

Anton, Oh that’s right, you had to leave gay pride parade early this year – double duty at the Special Olympics. Busy, er, beaver. In any case, Robert Horry was not in the discussion, he is not in the superstar elite category of Kobe and Lebron – P.S. I’m not on the pipe in either sense of the word, but with all those “gay” references ur making- things are starting to look a little suspect on ur end (no pun intended). P.S. Remember to look both ways before crossing..

  • CDef28

Hey Melo Man, there are other people that think Denver could do something in the playoffs before. However, I picked LA to beat them in 7 games in the Conference Finals because your boy sucks against them. Look at the stats: In for games against the Lakers, Carmelo averaged less than 15 PPG on less than 33% FG Shooting.

  • http://www.broy7.com/roy/index nate the great

im going with anton on what he is saying.
Bulldog and Donlaker are saying more absurved gay stuff then Anton.
Anton simply said the gay parade passed awhile ago.
Then, Donlaker started talking about Ballet, and stupid stuff.
so im sure you guys are the gay ones.
But im sure it doesnt matter between Lebron, and Kobe. Who really cares? i hate both of them, and both teams, and understand they are both very skilled, but these conversations get effin old. like really. this will never be resolved, because no matter what happens, lakers fans will never stop cryin.
    Dwades better than lebron right?
    he has a ring.
so therfore he should be mvp.
    Anton, forget them.
    laker fans dont understand anything.

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

It’s all good brotha, Lakes fans can’t make comprehensive arguments so there’s that’s like arguing with a nun about the best sex positions.

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

@Cdef: Lets not be harsh now. Melo doesn’t “suck” at anything. nut i do admit LA causes trouble for them

  • cdef28

i like melo but apparantly odom or someone on LA locks him up
