Alvin Gentry No Longer Interim

Suns GM Steve Kerr officially gave Gentry the seal of approval: “As expected, the Phoenix Suns are sticking with coach Alvin Gentry. Suns general manager Steve Kerr removed the interim tag from Gentry’s title on Saturday, calling him ‘the right man to lead our team into the future.’ Kerr said when the season ended that his first order of business was to re-sign Gentry, who took over the struggling Suns on Feb. 16 after coach Terry Porter was fired just four months into his first season with the club. Gentry’s contract is for two years with a third-year option.”

Gentry isn’t bad if they continue to run the same system (DAntoni ball), but do they plan on keeping that system? I think they should have held off on coaching decisions until they knew better what personnel they were keeping.

great hire. The players respect him and hopefully they bring everyone back but Matt barnes. They got a good roster…just bad chemistry. It could be a good year for the suns but I am not expecting a championship like I have in years past…o well

    Finally, Kerr/Carver does something right.

    Cool. I like Gentry.

We’d take Barnes here in SA, Chris. He’s multitalented and a tough defender with good length. The Suns need his toughness though, I don’t see him going anywhere.

ciolkstar…sure, hes all right but you can have him in San Antonio. He was useless on defense with a team who didnt play defense. He didnt play like he did in Golden State so I dont see why we should keep him. Id rather see Barbosa get some more minutes and the Suns sign a true Backup Center so they can have 4 big men and not 3.

ken, I think they have decided to go small ball again. You are just thinking backwards. They kept the coach because they plan to go small ball. If they were waiting to put a system in place to hire a coach then they wouldnt have. This makes perfect sense to me…
