Breaking: Skip and DFish Suspended

by Ryne Nelson

The NBA has suspended Derek Fisher and Rafer Alston for their roles in separate incidents last night. The Lakers and the Magic will be without starting point guards in Game 3 tomorrow.

Fisher has been suspended for bowling over “My Friend from Argentina!” Luis Scola. Fisher was thrown from the game with a Flagrant Two. Alston has been suspended for swinging at Eddie House’s head. House was hit with a technical foul for elbowing Alston in his stomach. Both incidents occurred in the final minute of the third quarter.

Oh, let’s not overlook this little note at the bottom of the press release:

Jackson also announced that the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant has been assessed a Flagrant Foul Penalty One for elbowing Houston’s Ron Artest in the chest area with 6:57 remaining in the fourth period of Wednesday night’s game.

Yes, Kobe has been dealt a flagrant one for this ‘bow to Artest’s chest (which lead to Ron Ron’s demonstative ejection). Both Artest and Bryant will play in Game 3.

Has the NBA become the “No Balls Association”?
The league needs to be careful here, as this stuff is starting to overshadow the actual games being played.

Lame…how do these guys get suspended but Rondo gets nothing? Seriously…that’s frustrating right there.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Tanny`

Did everyone else also see this coming?

  • http://slamonline.com DONONE

    DAMN!!!NEVER MIND…BASTARD!!
KOBE DESERVED THAT ISH…RON RON JUST FELT HE HAD TO LET MR. DIRTY DIRTY KNOW WUT UP!! OH AND YEAH,HE’LL SWALLOW EACH AND EVERY FAKER ON THE FLOOR!!

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

Thanks DONONE. And we even figured out how to start a YouTube video at a specific *time*! That took a minute, but check the Kobe elbow link.

  • http://www.sonicbids.com/shaemorin doyouwantmore

…then Rajon Rondo was given a Kia SUV for punching Mike Bibby in the face during a time-out.

  • http://www.slamonline.com wayno

The officiating and penalizing of players in these playoffs has been terribly inconsistent… It’s very frustrating to see, Rondo punched Brad Miller in the face and threw Kirk Hinrich into the scorer’s table (then ran away) and he didn’t get ejected OR a fine! I’m fine if they want to be strict on all of them or leaneant on all of them, but just pick one for goodness sake.

  • http://www.slamonline.com wayno

    lmao @ doyouwantmore

  • Dionisio

It’s how Rondo’s got away with all that he’s done scratch free that leaves me with a ichy head.

  • nickthaquick

Not surprised at all with Stu Jackson. Didn’t Kmart knock Dirk over with his forearm too. I didn’t agree with the $25K fine then and its not consistent with what DFish got. I think what everybody would like to see is consistency in these judicious rulings within a game within a series and within the entire playoffs…and Rondo still walks..

  • http://www.slamonline.com wayno

Rondo might get a flagrant foul for stabbing someone in the calf…

  • chris

wow! So much for this “no exception to the rule” league!!! Omg! The rules say if anyone hits another player with an elbow in the head they would be suspended. When amare and diaw took 2 steps on the court they got suspended…Kobe deserved to get suspended. Im no longer for the NBA. NCAA All the way!…Im pissed

  • chris

I hope Ron Artest clotheslines Kobe…not because I hate Kobe or nothin…but the dude is dirty and raja bell was tellin us this all along.

  • http://www.sonicbids.com/shaemorin doyouwantmore

    It’s all about the Benjamins

  • http://www.twitter.com/jamesgoesham JamesgoesHam

nobody deserves to get suspended. just let them play. if a fight breaks out, hey just eject them.

  • vtrobot

i’m a C’s fan and i think this is F*CKING WEAK!! NBA get your sh*t together. i guess it’s because rondo was “going for the ball” and alston wasn’t. was Fish’s foul really that bad? i saw one quick replay and it didn’t look like that be of a deal. maybe warranted getting thrown out of the game, but suspended?

  • vtrobot

    * big of a deal. sorry.

  • Adam T

Chris – the difference is where the elbow located for the two. The rule says the suspension is applied to any player with an elbow “above the shoulders”. That means throat and up. From the best angles, Kobe’s bow landed in the upper-chest, below the neck range. Add that to him doing it within the game as he tried to get position for a rebound (while artest was fouling him) and it would have been an atrocity if Kobe had been suspended…especially considering all of Rondo’s freebies

  • jumpman3224

Def. both deserved this. It will be interesting to see if PJax goes with quickness (Farmar) or the guy he trusts lately (Brown) to start tomorrow night.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Nice, Kobe might as well pull out a g@t in the middle of game 3 and walk away with a personal foul. The way these suspensions/ejections are going, anyway. He probably COULD get away with that, too.

  • chris

If he did get him in the chest I am fine with him not getting suspended. What I saw was an intentional elbow to the throat much like dwight Howard did. And artest isnt the only one who knows he throws elbows.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXw1DUDOOZQ

Hes dirty but I guess thats wat makes him good. Also, rondo shoulda been suspended too

  • tenorca

So if Ron Artest had ducked his head a little, Kobe would be suspended? A fine rule. Makes tons of sense. “You can throw your elbows, just keep them below the neck.”
Of course, we all knew there was no way KB24 was getting suspended. I’m looking forward to RonRon’s reaction tomorrow. I hope it involves elbows to the chest.

  • bakers-dozen (12-13_

So this is twice in the past 3 years that we’ve seen Kobe elbow somebody in the throat and NOT get penalized? (2006-Raja Bell)

Gee, NBA, can you GET any more rigged than this?

  • KoBynum716

vtrobot, respect for being the first celtics fan i’ve seen say anything about rondo. but apparently teddy-bear up here is blind. kobe was getting position and ended up accidentally elbowing ron-ron. he deserved the foul, but to suspend him would be just as bad as not suspending rondo for games 5 and 6.

  • chris

bakers dozen…I couldnt agree with you more

  • bakers-dozen (12-13_

Tenorca, I’d rather see a Houston win tomorrow night, and let somebody NOT as important as Ron Ron (Chuck Hayes, maybe) get the tech for elbowing Kobe’s nut sack.

  • Tyrone Shoelaces

I agree with Jamesgoesham, no more with this suspension nonsense stu. Sure you can hand out hefty fines, but other than that leave it to the refs. These are the playoffs and losing your starting point guard is a backbreaker of a loss for both teams. I think suspensions should only be warranted if fists are flying, other than that, let them play.

  • jumpman3224

Bryant’s elbow was at least a basketball play, caused by jockying for position. Def. not enough to suspend, especially since no foul was called during the game.

  • tenorca

“Basketball play” meaning throwing a ‘bow to at a dude’s neck. Somebody’s been playing “Bill Laimbeer’s Combat Basketball”

  • http://allanzuss@yahoo.com Mendel

Artest is my favorite Psycho athlete of all time now. His performance last night gets 5 Gangsters on the Omar scale. That’s the way Mike from the hood would have reacted and he is better then Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. Brandon Roy not so much.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Had Kobe been suspended for that, Rondo should have been SHOT for what he did to Brad Miller.

  • Jeff

Fisher had been getting hard screens all night. He just over compensated for a big guy coming to hit him. Scola is a big faker anyway. Fisher weighs half what he does. As for Kobe: how tough is Artest anyway. Kobe is getting thrashed on every play. Artest is down there bumping uglys with him and some how thinks an elbow to the chest is a big deal. Get over it. Artest thinks of the team and gets himself thrown out. What a guy.

  • tenorca

Stu also should have suspended Bynum for sucking too hard. He’s been Kwame Brown-esque these playoffs.

  • Sarah

People can trip out here, and I know Fisher is technically the little guy in the situation, but Fisher definitely hit Scola harder than Horry hit Nash, and he got a flagrant 2 and a 2 game suspension if I remember right. Going by that, Fish should get at least 1 game. And Alston is a no-brainer.

HAHAHAHA LAUGHING AT ALL OF YOU… aww Kobe didn’t get suspended. Keep complaining ya BIG BABIES (will smith voice). You are all B!TCHES :D

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Fish had to know he was getting suspended. If that was an NHL game, gloves would have been thrown down and there would have been some serious penalties handed out. Skip, I don’t know. If he thought he was gonna be suspended, I like to think he would have hit Eddie a LOT harder.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s35kBpvxfsc&feature=related James the balla

AHAHAHA LAUGHING AT ALL OF YOU… aww Kobe didn’t get suspended. Keep complaining ya BIG BABIES (will smith voice). You are all B!TCHES

  • THEY CALL ME LORD INFAMOUS BUT YOU CAN CALL ME SCARECROW

SO DOES HOUSTON GET TO SHOOT A FREE THROW TO START THE NEXT GAME?

  • THEY CALL ME LORD INFAMOUS BUT YOU CAN CALL ME SCARECROW

KOBE GETS NO CONSEQUENCES FOR BEING A DIRTY LIL BIOTCH. THE LEAGUE HASNT CHANGED.

  • vtrobot

Russ, I see you’re still plenty fired up about that foul on B. Miller. Can people at least stop saying that Rondo “punched” Miller? He had his hand open. Since my last post, I saw the Fish foul and I’m OK with him getting a game. He laid out Scola fairly nicely. Kobe should NOT get one game for what he did. It was far less than the Howard elbow. Here’s how I see all of these fouls (most severe listed first): 1. D. Howard 2. Fish 3. Rondo – Miller 4. Kobe elbow 5. Rondo – Kirk 6. Alston I guess Ron got tossed for being Ron, huh? If you’re not supposed to make contact with a player above the shoulders, I think D. West should have been suspended a game last year for caressing a German face. Actually, the rules say that caressing is OK as long as it’s ABOVE the shoulders.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

I’m pretty sure I never said it was a punch. But he did hit him across the face. Obviously Fish and Skip should have said just they were going for the ball. BOOM, no punishment.

  • http://www.slamonline.com wayno

Like I said, it would just bee nice to have some consistency. I don’t get how you can suspend Fish and Skip, and fine K-Mart, but Rondo and Kobe get absolutely nothing.

  • jumpman3224

tenorca- I meant that it happened with in the context of a basketball play ie the jockying for position. Not a play in and of its self as in Howard’s. Sorry if I wasn’t clear about that. Regardless he is not being suspended and shouldn’t be.

  • http://www.slamonline.com wayno

If you’re not going to punish those two, don’t punish the rest and vice versa.

  • jumpman3224

Also to all you who think Kobe is dirty. Some felt the same way about MJ. Im not saying Kobe is the next or better or anything. Just saying.

  • http://mc-datkid.blogspot.com Who’s Dat Kid?

    wow
if alston gets suspended for that
then where was rondo’s suspensions during the celtics/bulls series?

  • http://where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

Damn, the playoffs bring the bright ones out on slamonline, huh? Stu Jackson is doing a Dubya-like job this postseason.
